How it works in civ 5 is +%food (aztec watermill, tradition policy and temple of artemis) multiplies all food in your city by that amount.
Say you have 10 food and eat 6 of it and +25% food, you will have 12.5 food.
+% growth, from that religious belief and some other things that escape my mind, only multiply the excess food, not the food that's being eaten.
Say you have 10 food and eat 6 of it and +25% growth, you will only get the bonus to the 4 leftover food so you end up with just 11 food.

>>
>>150570221
Honestly the rushing of wonders with buildings doesn't seem all that potent. I guess it is since it allows you to essentially prebuild wonders.
I was watching someone doing it on Oracle and it only shaved off a turn each time. You would have to be able to 3 turn workers for it to be worth it.
>>
>>150570165

Garbage then.
Still I imagine it'd be like,
>Xi'an is building Pyramids
>Luoyang pumps out workers every 6 turns and shaves off 4 turns each time (Qin gets 4 builds)
>build at 167% speed
Then you get permanent +2 charges on all builders, which seems pretty useful seeing as you have almost double the number of uses as anyone else.

Lisbon unique bonus.
Your trade units are immune to being plundered while on water.
>>
One thing I want to see in Civ VI is the ability to commission ships from allied civs.
Like, if you're landlocked, you can pay them a certain amount of gold to build ships for you, so you can still have some sort of navy.
>>
>>150571870
You can't stack builders on the same tile and building something uses all their movement, so you're only shaving one turn off or at most 2 if it's the last build and you move another in its place.
>>
>>150572149
Any city that's within 3 tiles of the coast can build a harbor and then build a navy out of there, so you don't have to be right on the coast, and you can also take control of your allied city states units for a little bit when you're at war.
>>
>>150572246

Geneva unique bonus:
Your cities receive 15% extra science while at peace.

I'm really digging these unique city state bonuses. It'll make competition for them in multiplayer much better. Especially since interacting with them seems better than just "here's 1000 gold, you're my ally, I'm declaring war on everyone else in the game now so they can never steal you away from me."

Yes - if you plan on putting a solar panel on every starport and maybe a hydroponics farm to help population grow

no - if you're already at max naval capacity and if you don't want to micromanage also no if you don't want to build ships at starports without modules that boost shields/armor/weapon damage from strategic resources

Pretty much confirmed that GMG fucked up big time and an hero

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=571928

They showed the tech and culture tree

Now Sid Meier is going to have to choke all of them in their sleep

Also it seems obvious techs in the later eras are absolutely not polished yet, for example there's a presumably placeholder "Ideology" culture tech that unlocks nothing and branches out to the modern ideologies

Likewise, the tree is very empty towards the end, especially the Information Civics tree

>>
>>150596956
>>150596739

They already have a standardized color coding, along with COMPLETELY MISSING TEXTURES. Which explains some techs having ridiculously few or no effects, but doesn't mean some won't change, especially later on

Otherwise, there's blatant placeholder icons in later eras

Tech Tree :

>Units - Dark Green
>Buildings and Wonders - Dark Yellow
>Full Districts - Special Color
>Improvements - Gray/Dull Marine Blue
>Discovering (Strategic ?) Ressources - Pale Yellow
>National Wonders - Missing
>Flat Bonuses - Missing

Civics Tree :

>Military Policies - Red
>Economic Policies - Yellow
>Diplomatic Policies - Green
>Wildcard Policies - Purple

Otherwise the color coding seems to be scrupulously respected

So for example, the unlock at Robotics is a Building or Wonder of some sort, represented by the Neighborhood district icon, but NOT A DISTRICT

Icon seems to not represent anything relevant, although it hints at the unlock. For example, the "Nuclear Explosion" building in Nuclear Fusion is likely either a fusion plant for endgame production/money or a nuclear bomb shelter

the difference is that xcom 2 would be extremely easy to port to console because it only uses a few buttons. if I recall correctly, you could play it with a gamepad on pc. civ games are going to be a lot rougher to port. I mean, just look at how dumbed down civ revolution is, in order to get it to work on consoles/mobile platforms. IF they ported it to console, it would be so fucking clunky and difficult to control that they'd barely sell any copies. either that, or they'd remove half the features so that people with controllers could easily press the buttons, since having to cycle through shit constantly for workers, all the buildings/districts, planting districts, etc, is going to be really rough.
>>
>>150597771
I don't know. You can play CiV entirely with a mouse. All you gotta do is make the control sticks camera and move cursor.

I've been playing some Age of Wonders III lately and I can't help but wonder: why the hell hasn't Civilization switched to their way of handling combat?

Think about it, one of the biggest complaints about the series is that in many installments you're almost forced to go for a military victory rather than science, culture or diplomacy. And even when you go for another victory, you need to fight others in the early stages of the game or be overwhelmed later on. Yet in spite of that combat is pretty shitty, varying between "doomstack" and "one unit per tile which means combat is almost small scale and boring".

Age of Wonders III does it perfectly, almost like in a Total War game: you have a limited number of units per stack, and once you engage the enemy you can either auto-combat (like is the standard for Civ games) or go to a separate combat screen. I imagine this isn't past the realm of possiblity, since Age of Wonders can do it. So why didn't Firaxis ever consider this for the Civ series?
>>
>>150605591
The fight in Age of Wonders is a pain in the ass. I prefer Civilizations, it's simpler and less of a pain.

I feel that combining global strategy with tactics is a bad idea.
Crusader kings 2 have system more to my liking in that armies meet and fight in simplified but comprehensible way informed by your forces' composition and commanders you can procure without obscuring everything.

Attrition also drains doomstacks, but more needs to be done.

>>150605591

>Crusader kings 2 have system more to my liking in that armies meet and fight in simplified but comprehensible way informed by your forces' composition and commanders you can procure without obscuring everything.
But wouldn't that just be the Age of Wonders system if you constantly click auto-resolve? It'd still be a step up from either unlimited doomstacks or one unit per tile IMHO.

I feel like one unit per tile tries and fails to bring strategy to the global map, making it a shoddy compromise. Just created stacks with a limited number of troops (six per stack should be fine for example, maybe 10 max).
>>

>>150603401

>>
>>150606076
One unit per tile is not a problem per se but tiles in Civilization represent too much space. 2-4 tiles is how long army can move per year, one tile is how big a city is, it indeed can't be limited to just one unit.

I don't think global strategy games should have controllable tactical combat period, because it's a different skill set for player and can result in interference that runs contrary to intended way game is played (ie. winning despite being shit at economy and statecraft, because of good tactics skills) and represent different level of abstraction from what the rest of the game is muddling its purpose.

Autoresolve is usually presented as fallback for the lazy, I think the game should be designed around it, including unlocking new tactics and such as well as enabling stretching of battle across several turns.

I'm bad at organized religion but I honestly consider religion to be something deeply personal. I can understand why you don't want to pray alone, but having people telling you how you should interpret things seems counter-productive to me. From a civilizations-like point of view, I don't see why you would risk to alienate a part of your population because you want to impose a veil or some other thing.

And, yeah, things are simple in Dom4 because you're the only fucking god and everyone else is a heretic.

>>150607975
That's my fucking point
Confucianism was literally a guideline on how to live your life, the only parts of the afterlife that it had weren't even explicitly spelled out but just assumed you knew because everyone in China knew about the folklore
Taoism is also a philosophy, a bit more arcane and shit than Confucianism which was LITERALLY Confucius spouting adages and 'you shouldn't be a jackass' over and over, but it's still not a true religion the way the west thinks of it.
>Knights are a medieval unit despite most of the world having heavy cavalry during the classical era, including Europe
>pikemen is a medieval unit
>crossbows are a medieval unit and the Chinese get Chu-Ko-Nu in 1100 or so on average despite inventing those things 1400 years earlier
>engineering is a medieval tech which means the Romans literally can't get it around the historical time
Just end it.
>>
>>150608126
>Confucianism which was LITERALLY Confucius spouting adages and 'you shouldn't be a jackass'
Which is why Confucianism is objectively better.

But I guess it includes whatever local folklore your folks have.

I just wished Civilizations focused more on developping your own civilizations with its own quirks than playing an existing one.
I can't really roleplay in Civilizations.

>>
>>150608209
But it's not a religion. It has zero mentions of any gods besides a vague "heaven" which is more like "everything", but that's not even used in a divine sense.
It's like calling I don't fucking know Nihilism a religion or a collection of Aristotle's writings a holy book.

>>
>>150608280
Let me repeat it :
>I guess it includes whatever local folklore your folks have.

So in a sense, the state religion doesn't really exist. What you're really picking is how you're applying it.
>>
>>150608209
The entire design philosophy of Civilization is having everything generic. Generic units and generic cultures with generic quirks to build from. Malleable religions where you can make Islam into Buddhism and Buddhism into Christianity fit it as much as Montezuma and Caesar joining alliance against Bismark.

If you want roleplaying, you might look up some grand strategy games, like Crusader Kings 2. You can be anything you want inside the scope of the game: pagan tribe, Zoroastrian messiah rebuilding his religion or Ethiopean Jew conquering back Israel.
>>
>>150608373

I'm not really fond of turn-based games, I'd rather not spend money in a game just to know why I'm supposed to hate it.
It'd be like giving money to Chucklefish just to be allowed to criticize Starbound.

As someone who rather enjoyed it, I'd say

>Lack of balance - most units turn out worthless in the end so you can't really appreciate the options, since some are overwhelmingly better
>Lack of personality - quotes are lackluster. Civilopedia was actually good read, but who's going to read it all? Not much about both leaders and affinities actually translated into game

Same as in Civ 5 mostly, the only difference is that Outposts are incredibly fragile and short lived compared to CiV city states. Aliens wipe them out quite often.
>>
>>150610013
Well, trade route give some good bonuses for cities so you going to want to have them maxed out. So you build trade convoys and send them to other cities.

But every 10 turns or so they reset so you are constantly sending them again and again. Soon enough you envy the dead.

They fixed it by allowing fewer routes and making them permanent.

agree with you on the rest, though. The unit thing is fucking tragic. The first rover unit you get is the best one throughout the whole game, and often strictly better than ones which need specific resources and technologies.

>everything feels halfway done. aliens didnt pose a threat past the first few turns, barely any real satellites (though the layer was awesome), combat in general was boring.
>'city state' replacements are worthless
>the 30$ expansion still didnt make the game much better than before. while it expanded on some things, it also left others in the dark, so the affinities still feel lackluster since you can only upgrade half of your units to these 'dual affinities.'
>the color schemes are shit and everything is unidentifiable later in the game
they could have done so much more with everything.

> You now only need to establish a route once, right? Now it's not much worse then building the buildings.
Yes, with a but.
The but being that if you're doing international trade and the retarded diplo declares war on you, as it does frequently and for no reason, then you have to rebuild or reassign them all. And when you have ~20 cities it's just a recurring, laborious chore that proves incredibly annoying.
> I'm pretty sure affinity units are better then hovertanks though. But most of them are artillery for some reason.
It's a question of mobility. Sure, the Master Golem (top Purity/Supremacy unit) has strength 106 compared to the hovertank's 58, but the hovertank has 4 movement, ignores difficult terrain costs, and can go over water.
...AND doesn't need strategic resources or for you to waste an otherwise useless tech choice on it.

What I will say for Beyond Earth is that Rising Tide's artefact-combination-for-sekrit-buffs system was great. It was kinda like the Quests system except the rewards were actually good, and I always found myself really enthused by the prospect of getting rare wonders.

I mean, I'm looking at the Civilopedia right now and there's loads of artefacts and rewards I've still never even seen before after like 400 hours' play.

Let me quote monday's "dev diary"

Hello Stellaris fans! I hope you're all having a lovely summer. The holy month of July is now over, and Paradox developers are slowly trickling back into the office, tanned and rested. Having just returned to work today myself, I just thought I would write a short dev diary to tell you briefly what is coming.

With the 1.1 "Clarke" and 1.2 "Asimov" patches released, we are now going to start working on 1.3, dubbed "Heinlein". We previously mentioned Heinlein in dev diary 33, but we've since changed the scope for it somewhat. Ever since we released the game, we've received some fantastic feedback from our players, far more than we felt that we were able to address in 1.1 and 1.2. As such, Heinlein will be a patch focusing on addressing community feedback and implementing community suggestions.

Mind you, the change in focus doesn't mean none of the things mentioned in the previous dev diary will show up, as we know several of them to be highly desired features. It just means we are going to adjust our plans to get some of the things we know that you want to you sooner than was previously planned. There will also be a small patch this week on Thursday, August 4th along with the release of the Plantoids Species Pack.

Next week's dev diary will have more details about Heinlein. Until then, enjoy the August sun (or just sit inside and play Stellaris, I won't judge).

Been looking for a solid space 4X game for a while. I saw a thread yesterday on /v/ and someone mentioned how fun Star Ruler 1 was, sadly the thread died before I got answers to my questions. I've done some looking and found that it's generally well received and that it got a sequel (with an expansion). The sequel is also very well received, but many claim it's very different, some say it's better, some say it's worse than the original. Sadly there's not a whole lot of information on it, seems like a game that went under the radar.

Anyone here got something to say about it ? Should I get the first one or is the second one just better in every way ?

>Can never be razed
>>
>>150621462
Frankly, I don't like them. They're both very different, so I shall go deep in details.

Star Ruler is rather conventional as far as 4X go : you have various ressources (metals, electronics, workforce) that you can stockpile to a limited degree.
What ruined it for me is how bad the AI is. Simply put, all your ships requires fuel and ammo to work properly, but the problem is that they constantly consumes fuel. So it's almost impossible to have a line of battle as ships will almost go around and refuel at the nearest planet.
Building tankers theorically fixes it, until they run out of fuel, and then it's a race toward the nearest planet.

Due to the fuel consumption, you can't afford to leave ships in a system that doesn't have a colonized planet, as your ships will literally die once they're out of fuel.

The only thing I liked with Star Ruler is its insanity. You build the ships yourself, and you can pick ANY scale you want. So you can have a microfighter, but you can also have a giant battleship the size of a planet if you want to.

Star Ruler 2 is vastly different, because it relies more on fleet rather than individual ships, and is less tedious when it comes to intendance.
Basically, in Star Ruler 2, you have a capital ship that is often specialized (either to support more ships, or to have more guns), and the capital ship is followed by, well, a fleet of small by easily replaceable ships.
>>
>>150621462
Now, for the economic side of the games.

It's been a while since I played Star Ruler, but it was pretty simple. You have food, metal, electronics, and advanced materials. They're produced/mined from your planets, nothing fancy here that I can remember.
Then you have ammos and fuels that are mostly produced and stockpiled on your planets. They're mandatory (unless you add a lot of solar panels and use lasers).

Star Ruler 2 changes this considerably. Basically, in Star Ruler 2, each planet produces one ressources. It's often food or water, sometimes something more fancy like metal, plastic or jewels.
And the entire economical aspect is based on the fact that you can export ressources from one world to another to improve planets.
To put it simply, by exporting water and food to a planet who produces metal, you slowly turn it into a low level forge world. And the idea here is that level 0 planet (the one that produces vital ressources) don't give you any money, so you have to send all your ressources to one planet to massively improve it.

The massive downside of that system is that unless you waste money on redundant ressources, your entire empire is basically a giant domino castle, and losing one planet, even a backwater farming world can potentially leave your economy in shambles.
>>
So to recap all my beefs with the Star Ruler games :
-the first has a bad supplies system who makes all attacks tedious because you have to take care of all the fuel and ammos but allows some pretty insane stuff,
-the second mixes ammo and fuel into just "supplies" but it's long to recover it and you always feel extremely fragile, especially given how economy works.

Because yeah, I forgot to say it, but you can't save money in Star Ruler 2. Each 3 minutes, all your money in excess is taken away, so kinda like in Supreme Commander, you sometimes care more about how much many you're making rather than how much money you actually have.
>>
>>150622463
>>150622794
The main draw of the game I heard people talk about were the infinitely scalable ship designs and the unique tech tree. How do those features compare between games ?
>>
>>150623330
As I said in >>150623305 that you probably missed because we posted roughly at the same time, Star Ruler 2's system will punish you if you try to buy something you don't have the pockets to maintain.

So unless you have a really strong economy, you can't do insane stuff like in Star Ruler 1.

Shit, now I want to reinstall them. Know yet another reason why I hate them? You use the right click to move the camera around, and you can't change it to just give orders. And there's no button to reset the camera. It's like Sins of Solar Empire, same annoying shit.

>>150620001
Forced jokes, the image.
>>
>>150623549
Sounds like I might get Star Ruler 2. From what you said and what I read earlier, it's a bit more polished but doesn't deviate too much from the original idea.

Thanks for the replies and info.
>>
>>150623750
Star Ruler 2 has a more complicated economy, and doesn't have the huge ships you might want.

But I have to be honest : despite all the shit they pull, the devs are pretty legit.
When I complained in a RTS general about how I never had fun at Star Ruler because of how complicated it was, a dev posted a few Steam keys so that we "could make our own opinions". FOR FREE.

So that's why I always try to explain why I don't like the games. And yet I tried, it really tried, but the system just doesn't suit with me.
>>
How do you play stellar multiplayer if you have a cracked copy. To be specific how would I do it if me and my friend want to play LAN
>>
>>150624153
That's one constant I always noticed when looking into this game. Everyone mentions how the devs are cool. Sadly it seems like their studio closed after they released the expansion for SR2.
>>
>>150624334
SR2 got an expansion?

Wait, I mean they closed? Maan, that sucks. They have good idea, but they just poorly implemented them, and tried too much different stuff.
Star Ruler 2 is pretty innovative, but it's just too new. Instead of just paying once for a building on a planet, you're encouraged to let them develop by themselves. That's something I still don't understand, the whole "pressure" thing. I wish they used another word.

Shit. I'll be right back, I need to make a gravestone with cardboard and pray.

Conquest in Endless Legend is pretty bad though. The combat system is interesting, but the cities are WAY too fragile. Losing your army, or having it slightly too far means the enemy will just steamroll your entire empire in a few turns, giving you no chance to recover. It's fine to be penalized for having a weak army, or not covering your back, but it's almost instant defeat in endless legend.

Things that matter:
- if you have one fast unit, like cavalry, autoresolve assumes it charges first and dies
- if you have a flying fast unit they tend to survive because flying>cavalry
- ranged units are calculated as if they get one/two shots, then have to fight in melee. So use crossbows, they've got melee damage bonus.
- a big enough difference in attack & defence values means victory to the one with the higher stats, no matter the composition

Those are the main ones.

the base game is pretty well worth it--I haven't picked up the DLCs yet but the game on its own is good.

it has its faults, like the AI is kinda dumb with diplomacy, combat is lackluster in manual but has good mechanics as >>150626367 said. there's no espionage in the base game so if that's a particular draw you'll miss out.

>A fanatic does literally everything better than a cynic besides question his own beliefs, including copying books and shit.
It'd be interesting to have an alternate mechanic to religion for people who don't want to deal with it-- in Civ 5 if you don't get a religion you're at the mercy of whoever happens to come knocking on your door. I always feel like I need to get a religion even if I don't expect to need the bonuses, just because I want to deny other players some of the bonuses of having a religion.

If not atheism, they should expand the Pantheon system in Civ 5. Something like allow pantheons to exert religious pressure (but not buy units) so they don't get wiped out so fast, and maybe nerf religion by making the bonuses more specific to a victory type and forcing penalties onto other types. As you say, a fanatic is better at what they believe in... so the trade-off should be that you need to commit to those beliefs. The play of atheism/paganism/whatever would be losing out on early & mid-game bonuses in exchange for later flexibility.

How do I effectively build space-ships?

I have several spaceports, some in sectors, some not. I want to amass an army as quick as possible by spreading the queue over these planets.

Yeah. Few people actually bought the expansion and that was our last ditch effort to get the studio enough money to make another game. Both me and Andrew are already looking for other jobs; so far, all I've gotten are rejections because the developers 'aren't in the market for making 4X/RTS games' and/or 'the studio I come from isn't AAA' and being ignored.

That and it bummed out Andrew pretty hard. Maybe we'll come back in the future when we've saved up enough money to try this whole thing again but, for now, the studio's going dark. We probably won't try to get back into the 4X market again though. Nobody seems to actually want innovation; they just want another MoO/Civ/EUIV. That, and nobody in the press cares about 4X so we never can get any coverage - so we'd die in obscurity anyway.

Hey /4xg/, I started to play civ 5 for the first time again in a few years: the last time I played was before BNW came out.

Even back at the time, I wasn't an amazing player: I normally played on prince and did okay there. So, I picked poland for this game since I heard they are super easy mode.

The thing is, ive run into a ton of issues this game, mostly economic ones. Maybe it's that i'm still playing like gold was more abundant as a tile yield and that's part of the problem, maybe it's due to the relative lack of luxuries where I am and the fact that none of the other civs i've met has gpt to trade and none of them are close enough to do a trade route with. In any case, i've been in minus -10+ gpt for a while

On top of that, i've had tons of issues with barbarians harrasing me keeping me from devping my cities and me constantly needing to repair my tile improvements, and then the huns tried to push my shit in and I had to spend a ton of time and effort building hugeass military to fight them off.

So, yeah, please tell me what I did that fucked me up and if the game is salvageable. I was going for a scientific victory but I haven't been able to devote any effort towards that in a fuck ton of turns due to the barb/hun shit.

Also I know my tile assignments aren't completely optimized, but that's not the main issue I don't think

>having people telling you how you should interpret things seems counter-productive to me.
Dude, people are capable of coming up with the most batshit insane and retarded leaps of logic that will baffle your mind into the realms of the absurd

Like those sandniggers in Pakistan a few years ago who heard that since Abraham was told to sacrifice Isaac, but didn't (because the point of the task was to show that God isn't like those barbaric Caanites, he doesn't want your kids, he's satisfied if you cut up a few lambs), so maybe the best way to please God would be to kill their children

and they did it

Modern day people put way too much fucking faith into the competence of the common man. A little bit of control is absolutely necessary to prevent things from spiraling out of control. Witch hunts were an entirely HERETICAL thing as ordained by the fucking Pope (there was literally a death penalty for witch hunts, because the official policy of the Catholic church was that witches don't exist and claiming that witches exist is heresy), so even though the organizational force behind the religion forbade it, people were STILL too fucking stupid to not do it

Man, I'm sorry. I never played SR but I heard some very good shit about it. I have SR2 on gog though I still didn't give it a try and I didn't buy the DLC because I still need to give a try to the base game.

My opinion as a player is that the market is kinda saturated: SR, StarDrive, AoW, Civ, EL, Stardock Games, Stellaris, MoO, Pandora, DW. Real time or not, it's 4x and I feel the market has too many stuff for not a lot of players. The biggest share lies in the Civ crowd but most of them don't want anything new, I think, because they value gameplay more than innovation. Kinda like e-sports.

You need something to shock the genre to get some big press I guess, kinda like Neo-Scavenger which I think did pretty well despite being an adobe flash game.

I think the buck might try to get out of the overexplored Space/random map-civ like game to a Sid's Colonization or something even less used. Or not, that's just my uneducated guess.

From what I understand, high pressure of specific resources allows for civvies to build higher-tier buildings of said resource.
However, going over the pressure cap of a planet causes inefficiencies, which in gameplay translates to the civvies building the lower tier buildings instead.

As to the differences between the tiers of civilian buildings, I couldn't say. That was never quite clear to me. I just operate under the assumption that higher tier is better so I make attempts to keep pressure balanced.

What will make Stellaris good? Honestly, I think the game needs a way to fuck over empires you hate that's not just going to war. Espionage and propaganda would serve this game well, plus a few other things.
>Construct broadcasting towers that increase foreign ethics divergence on their nearby planets towards your ethics
>Fund foreign rebel groups that align to your ethics, promising to either vassalize or add them to your empire
>Theft of technologies or sabotaging research
>Sabotaging structures, spaceports, or entire production chains on planets
>Planetary or sector governors that make demands for resources or better protection
>Powerful universal wonders as in Civ (may be hard to balance given random techs and advanced starts)
>Alternate victory conditions
>Actual diplomatic rewards for being the one to shoulder most of the burden on crises (flavor says everyone's glad I destroyed the Unbidden portal, but no one acts like it)
>Events and decisions that scale to my empire size
>Doomsday devices or weapons
>More control over sector production priorities and an AI that actually builds beneficial special buildings (Monument to Purity, etc)
>>
Is building structures strictly necessary to enjoy a 4X game? I'm toying with the idea of all generic structures being present in new colonies but upgrading their infrastructure (farm level 2, mine level 4) rather than the tedium of building the same order of buildings in every single city, which never feels enjoyable or strategic.

Stellaris does building construction in a weird pseudo RTS way.

Classically you'd build things like the power hubs to get bonuses but resource production would be handled entirely by pops and a planet's fertility/richness would give penalties or bonuses.

Take a look at alphamod to see how it does structures. I like the ideas it has but it's way too bloated for me.

A little less than half, actually, if my math's right. Must consider that we spent 3 years building the game before it even got to market - a lot of our warchest was already depleted by then.

For us to stay open we need about 2 years worth of cash in the trunk, ready to go. At 100k/year that works out to needing $200k.

Also mind that we didn't sell 40k at $25 a pop. We sold about 40k and most of our sales occurred during steam sales, where the game was deeply discounted.

The amount returned on it was much less than 500k unfortunately.

>>150673257
Thanks anon. Yes, we still receive money for it. The studio is shutting down but we're not removing the game from steam or anything.
>>
>>150683683
Mind that 200k figure is like nothing but the bolts. It wouldn't pay for the contracting costs of getting 3D artists in or paying for musicians etc.

Depends

The hammer is probably better in general, one hammer can seriously change how fast you get your starting setup out and help you hit Eureka moments while they are still relevant (for example putting a Builder out to hit the first row of Eurekas)

1 Faith/1 Gold is a more opportunistic build where you try to get a good pantheon ASAP and then rush a Religion

The hammer still allows you to build a Shrine, and the faith and gold still allows you to get hammer pantheons, so it's one and the same, just different ways to get there

>>
>>150688328

why does it look empty? it looks like it has even more content than civ 5 did with its full expansions.

>>
>>150690427

>>
>>150690575
what?

the tech tree is smaller because they removed some stuff and put it on the civic tree. theres more overall stuff to research compared to civ 5.
>The research tree is smaller than in Civ V, because a number of items have been moved to the new Civics tree. Taken together, these two trees have about 118 total, 40 more items than the Civ V tech tree.
not to mention its going to be harder to generate science on average, so unless you're really good with getting eureka bonuses, its going to take longer to get to later eras.

>>
>>150691384
well, it says 4 dlc packs at a reduced cost. it being 20$ more....normally season passes save you half, so 40$ is easily the price of one big expansion, and 3 leader dlcs. or maybe they're making the 'leader dlc' extra leaders for previous civs, like in civ 4, since they've hinted at that tons of times.

so dont expect the deluxe edition to have all the dlc in it. im sure they will put out a lot. so buy that if you plan on getting all the dlc when it comes out anyways.

The save doesn't exactly help as I can't see what you prioritized, but still I'll try my best

Your first mistake is you opened another tree without finishing one, the finishers are powerful, always try to finish one before going to others, except for the case of rationalism.

This map isn't explored well and it's turn 124. This means you probably didn't create a scout at the first turn, always do that. A scout which steals shit load of ruins/explores the world is much more valuable than a single monument. This is pretty important, seriously. In YNAEMP games I make like at least 3 scouts before going for monument.

Not exactly important to your question but Krakow had great growth anyway, in this case don't put plantations on bananas, as this chops down the jungle. With universities you get 2 science from jungle, which can mean a lot. In empty jungles always build trading posts as those don't remove them

I'm only seeing melee units, which means you fucked up there too. You see an early warmonger? Rush crossbows, a few of them will be enough to defend most of the time. Seriously, ranged is op in this game and AI is retarded as hell. Also another tip, Attila's rams can only attack to city, not units, so if you put a units between it and city he'll be unable to attack it, using this you can take them down pretty easily. His chariot archers(?), which don't even require horses for some reason are pretty op however. Try to get them close to you and kill them with spearmen. Also always stay in defense in these cases, never attack.

The same goes for barbarians too, have like 2 bowmen and they'll be enough to defend cities, at some time your scouts will come home as well. You can either delete them or use them as bait to barbarians

Also you have 3 cities by turn 124 in Prince Standard, even tall players usually have 4 cities by turn 100. Also I'm not really seeing many great settling spots on this map, it would probably be better to go tradition in this map
>>
I'm not sure if this qualifies as a 4x, but what's the go-to Sim City these days? City Skylines is looking pretty bitching.

Continuing in another post, the above one hit the character limit

You can still save this game however, I've seen people come back from much worse

About economy, William doesn't have any iron and you can sell him some, not really great but will slightly help you with your economy. You have unimproved ivory in your capital, improve it and sell it to some other civ. Trade screen is telling me that your best trade route would be Warsaw to Katowice, which would make 4,8 gold for you. This is pretty bad and I wouldn't trade with Attila as it looks like he'll attack you soon anyway, scout a route with Swedes so you can trade with them imo. Try to get them on your good side, Gustavus can probably help you with Attila in a future war. Also take Attila's capital if you can it's pretty good

You have unlocked National Collage but still haven't build it which is pretty bad, try to rush it in your future games

In Lodz your worker is making lumber mills instead of improving those horses, improve the horses so you can sell them and that tile would be better than lumber mill anyway. Venice doesn't have any horses, sell them to him

You have way too many melee units, delete some of them and make archers. Just against barbs one ranged unit for a city is enough most of the time

About settling spots, the one in the pic looks pretty good. A wonder which is good, which also gives happiness if in your borders IIRC, growth potential, near mountain and jungles so great science, 2 luxuries, etc. Try to settle there. It looks like there are a few other good settling positions too but can't really tell, you haven't explored them well. Like the place of your north with marble, ivory and iron. If its northwest is good as well you can settle there too. A coastal city would help you take down Attila's capital

That's it I think. I don't think I missed anything else

I RNG'd my way to this setup (because I lack the imagination to actually create an empire myself)
But I really don't know how I'm supposed to play a collectivist plutocracy. Does that even make sense? Can anyone think up any fictional / irl examples for me to wrap my head around the kind of empire I'm supposed to be playing as here.

I want to say that a militaristic, xenophobic, collectivist plutocracy is basically IRL China, IN SPACE. Their collectivism comes in the form of nationalism, rather than in the form of gibs 2 poor.

Although then I became less convinced that it was a good fit, because in IRL China you become rich because you're in power, whereas the Stellaris plutocracy implies things the other way around: you're in power because you are rich.

He was at war against the Spanish with their possessions in Italy to keep ahold of Milan and gain Naples. Catherine de Medici was part of the Medici dynasty which was in control of the City-State of Florence/Duchy of Tuscany.

Because it's clear they wanted to do something different with France other than Culture/Military (which looks to be almost half the other Civs revealed so far) so they did someone with a bit more intrigue. Also it highlights the new diplomacy in Civ6 which seems like it could be its greatest feature so far.

Also they said that a lot of the themes and aesthetics of the game (the map look for example) is based off the age of exploration, which Catherine falls into but Joan misses the mark on.

It's also debated how much commanding Joan actually did in the army where Catherine did have real political power.

Pretty much, don't expect a lot of depth out of this one, and evening or two is more reasonable. CW3 has the most options and depth but because of it it's also the easiest. Yes, you can play user created scenarios and such, but each one of them is still too damn easy
>>
>>150759085
Depends on a mod. Something like new emblems, music, traits or art should conflict much, but more complex mods would probably be fucked
>>
>>150759085
If the patch didn't change anything related to the mods you're using, you can use them safely
>>
>>150759303
>>150759085
And also depends on a patch. Quick patchfixes would also probably not conflict with most of mods for the previous version, as long as they don't completely revamp the systems and balance

Yeah but Star Ruler 2 is probably easier to get into.
At the very least fleets in 2 don't freak out when given a move command.

Are there any good guides to git gud at civ 5? I'[m a pretty casual player but i'd like to get better

I'm also looking for a guide to diplomatic bonuses and penalties that just explains all the actual values and numbers behind all of them and how they work mechanically

pic unrelated

Should I update my Stellaris from 1.1 to 1.2 Asimov? I like the idea of Core Systems but I feel like the Open Borders changes and the changes to Ethics Divergence and Happiness might be an issue.
>>
I just downloaded a fuckton of Stellaris mods, and now I'm installing all of them.
Time to play the "toggle everything off one at at time to figure out what's causing compatibility issues" game

Didn't realize the Neptunia one adds in all anime forever.

that's the point

That's the point. At the highest levels of sci-fi there's literally no reason to not go for the best weapons.
>>
>>150770267
And yet in the Honorverse, there are still people using firearms because they don't need energy.

>>
>>150770502
But you don't need energy in Stellarisverse because you master energy and matter by the time you get T-Lances.
>>
Is it possible for your Civ to land really closr (like initial settle) on a natural wonder? It has literally never happened to me so I'm assuming there is scripting to make them generate away from you.
>>
>>150771848
I think I recall a save of Spain being passed around here years ago when we still have saves of the month. Landed right on Great Barrier Reef and Uluru was close by. Really ridiculous start, double yield from GBR is OP as fuck. I wouldn't be surprised if the save was doctored though, you can edit that shit in real easy.
>>
>>150771848
Natural wonders are coded to spawn away from major civs (which is why CS get them so often). I don't think they will ever spawn within 3 tiles of your original spawn, but outside of that is possible. You would definitely have to move your settler if you wanted a natural wonder in your capital though.
>>
>>150771848
No, AI get them pretty consistently.

In case you've forgotten, there are OTHER endgame weapons too. The fact that Talcyons are so much better that there's no point bothering with any of the other endgame-weapons is bad balancing.
Kinetic Artillery is not only less powerful, it doesn't even get the +15% damage against shields that every other kinetic weapon got in Asimov. Even if it did have that bonus, it's still not as good as Talcyons.

There ought to be some semblance of balance in end-game weaponry, at least when it's up against other end-game weaponry: Talcyons beat armor-heavy fleets, Kinetic Artillery beats Shield-heavy fleets, Arc Emitters beat hordes of tiny vessels by causing splash damage like they're supposed to (it's currently bugged, so it doesn't actually travel to other ships like it says it does)...
It would be fine if the others were at least comparable in effectiveness to talcyons, but they aren't. That's a problem, and one that needs addressing.
>>
>>150778080
That's the point. That's why Tachyon needs a nerf, or the other endgame weapons need a buff.
>>
>>150778080

Tachyon weapons go faster than light, which means they do not obey causality, which means they can hit their targets before they are fired by the attacking ships.

You can't balance against that.
>>
>>150779229
>prepare to fire Tachyon weapons
>Ship instantly blows up before we fire weapons
>Don't have to fire weapons now because no target
What do?
