The Beastmen are a cool faction but the pack is a bit overpriced for what you get. There probably won't be a price drop for some time, so if you're impatient or really like the Beastmen then go ahead, otherwise wait it out.

There's a 50% chance that the caster damages itself though!

Select your lord (make sure he isn't garrisoned or in a stance)
Select the quest battle (on the map or through quest log)
There's a button in the bottom right of the quest battle window that you can use to teleport for 5k gold (when the battle's finished you're automatically teleported back to your original position)

Select your group and right click the enemy
All your units move and automatically direct themselves to and engage enemies they get close to while maintaining formation

You should read the patch notes in the OP and the ones before it if you are interested in grabbing them. You will need them if you wanna get Beastmen too.

They're super fun to play as. Probably my favorite faction so far. They somehow beat greenskins for outright ass kicking and head stomping. They are pretty easy because some of their units are a bit OP and aren't much of a threat on the campaign map if you aren't playing as them, but they are good.

The worst part is that Orkz aren't even that fun to play.

Grimgor, Giants, and Black Orkz are fun to use, but everything else sucks. No good ranged units, their artillery is mediocre, their cavalry is mediocre. Every battle is making a line of guys, reinforcing certain parts, and flanking with a couple of dudes.

Having to get to turn 40 to have late game units for your faction to be fun is no good.

It wouldn't work with any of his animations, but you could create a new missile weapon in missile_weapons, a new projectile in projectiles, and a new explosion in projectile_explosions. Set the projectile model to fireball or whatever's closest, and make the explosion do ignition damage. Make sure you set the explosion in the projectile's explosion column, and in missile_weapons, set your projectile as your weapon's ammo. In land_units, find Franz (there are a few instances of him, one on foot and one for each mount) and add your weapon under primary_missile_weapon. Export your tables and compile them (I guess?) with BOB. KF would now be able to shoot explosive fiery balls, but it'll look like shit because his model doesn't have a ranged attack animation. (I found this out when I was trying to make handgunner slayers)

There are mods that give all magic lores to Empire LLs and lords, that might be a better option.

It's only turn 50 and somehow Zhufbar have took the entire World's Edge mountains, Barak Varr is still around and kicking ass while Karak Azul are retaking settlements and the beastmen are nowhere to be seen. I also see Black Venom on the left, who usually die by turn 5.

So you know how the Chaos invasion is supposed to herald the End Times? Well, GW decided that it actually happened. But it turns out Sigmar was living with a celestial dragon who revealed to him multiple planes of existence. The men you see are humans who have been taken from the old world and brought into Sigmar's celestial plane and basically turned into Space Marines with genetic enhancements, special "sigmarite" armor and lightning weapons. Also, everything is Latin/Greek now, and not German-ish. Everything now takes place on the planes of existence now that the old world is destroyed, so you have the planes of death, light, beasts, etc. Plus, they simplified the fuck out of the rules. They wanted the Call of Duty audience and lost pretty much everyone with Age of Shitmar. It's a shame, too, since TW:W is probably the last piece of WH Fantasy media we will see.

I just saw a horde of Savage Orks show up at the North End of Kislev. Can they show up from the east end of the map? I though it was just the south.

There is a clan of savage orcs called the Skull-Takerz or something that spawns around the Empire's starting city but they usually die by turn 10. When I play Chaos I often see them re-emerging and they are indeed usually around Kislev.

First tribe you wanna awaken is the Baersonling tribe but you don't wanna do it in Baersonling's landing - sack this for about 7 turns until your starting lord has Level 3 horde growth. You also might wanna get rid of whatever starting units you have and replace them with marauder units since Chosen are suuuuper expensive.

Another EXTREMELY important thing to do is when you awaken a tribe, declare war on them and defeat their city. This will give you the option to subjugate them, which turns them into your vassal (instead of an ally if you don't subjugate). Being a vassal means they can't declare war on anyone, and the chaos tribes (including your own ones) declare war on each other very often. Vassalizing them prevents this.

You should probably choose your starting legendary lord based on their quest battles for their artifacts as some of them are much harder than others, like Kholek's weapon and Archaon's armor. If that doesn't bother you, go by whichever you think is easiest to unlock - Sigvald requires you to awaken all 4 tribes, Kholek requires a dragon ogre gathering to be built in a horde and Archaon requires 10 post battle sacrifices.

I should also mention the reason you don't awaken the tribe in Baersonling's landing but instead Frozen Jetty is because Kislev will very often venture into Baersonling's landing and constantly raid, sack or raze it and the tribe along with it before they get an army up.

I actually vassalized Baersonling, but then Kislev marched up and wiped them off the map. I guess that's why I should awaken them at the other settlement? Is there any way to encourage vassals/allies to take ruins?

wow, i always liked 40k better than fantasy but i played warhammer online same as most and i was kind of fond of it.
The real strength it had over 40k was the asthetic style and it looks like they just fucked that all over. While i like me some grimdark spess futures, fantasy had a sort of 'plaguepunk' setting going for it that had a charm you cant get anywhere else.

I've played two races so far, and neither were really fun.

Dwarves and Orks both have the same problem of the campaign map really sucking for them. They're super linear and generally pretty unfun.

As Dwarves, you're forced into fighting the Orkz for the majority of your campaign. It's mostly not very fun because you have to deal with random Waagh(!) stacks, and constant ork raids. The most annoying bit is trying to wipe out an ork tribe, only to have another raid your provinces which nukes public order and income.

The Orks spend most of their campaign fighting other Orkz, and then Dwarves. They have similar problems with raids from other Orkz, as well as the random Waaghs. Dwarves are frustrating to fight because they tend to confederate, and moving about the mountain (even with the underway ability) is really tedious.

Now, I'd like to emphasize that I'm not saying the races were hard, or the battles are unfun. Quite the contrary. I really enjoy the dwarf units, and Grimgor is a really cool lord (who actually feels like a Legendary Lord).

The problem are purely campaign map related. Too little variety and annoyances. Hopefully, as they add more races, they'll improve the situation in the bottom corner of the map. I recommend getting a unit pack or two. I don't know the names of the ones I use off-hand, but they're good to the lore and fairly well balanced. Then there's one that adds wolf, boar, and griffon cavalry, but the riders don't have arms and their weapons just float there.

Dwarfs and orcs are my least favorite campaigns too because of the monotony of fighting the same enemies. Empire has to deal with Chaos, Humans, maybe Vampires and dwarfs and every now and then some orcs. Same goes for vampires. Plus, their units and tech tree are more interesting than dwarfs & orcs, imo.

Vampires are pretty fun but not having ranged units is an interesting gimmick that I really like. Their foot soldiers are solid and their cavalry is incredible. They have awesome flying units and monsters. The campaign map can be tough as you are disliked by pretty much everyone but you don't start off at war with Chaos unlike everyone else.

Chaos campaign can be played 2 ways - either extremely trivially (conquering the entire northern tribes) or going balls deep into human territory at the start. The 2nd one is super hectic and really tough, but it's way more fun than chasing retarded tribes around the place ad infinitum.

Vampires are a pretty slow faction. You need to consolidate often and wait for things to fall into place.

The vampiric corruption mechanic causes any living army to suffer attrition if it's >50%, and any undead army to suffer attrition if it's <50%. There are also public order penalties if a settlement is too corrupt (non vampire) or not corrupt enough (vampire) - which makes blitzing settlements impossible because you will have rebellions every few turns.

Vampires can raise shitty armies pretty quickly due to the Raise Dead mechanic. You can train an unlimited amount of units in a single turn at the cost of no movement as long as there are units left in the local region's 'death pool', which recharges every now and then, not sure exactly how long. If a large battle has taken place in a region, you can move to it and raise even stronger, higher tier units from it.

Vampires excel in sending shitty units as meat shields and distractions to tie up good enemy units while your good units come in from behind and fuck them up or fight their shittier units. Some of their units inspire terror in enemies which causes them to randomly flee and depletes their leadership pretty quickly, forcing an early rout. Combining some shitty zombie charge followed by some giant flying units from behind can cause insane amounts of losses for the enemy and all you will lose is a unit that you will be able to instantly raise after the battle anyway.

Plus, one of your army lords can be the necromancer, who have ridiculous spells like the Invocation of Nehek that can be overcharged into an AoE heal that will turn the tide in any battle - your units, no matter how shitty, will refuse to die and continually heal until the spell ends.

Finally, avoid Black Coaches. They're fucking garbage.

If they are losing money that way its because a lack of interest in tabletop wargaming, not because anything was wrong with the setting. In fact on the contrary, their new video game strategy with freer distribution of their IP can do nothing but make them money, and has been pretty successful thus far i think. Ive never even thought about getting into the tabletop aspect, but im quite fond of the setting of both 40k and fantasy.

They would have been better off canning the tabletop but leaving the IP intact to license to video game developers than doing what they have done here.

Well see, the issue with that is that they've never seen themselves as anything but a delux tabletop collection studio. That's also why they overprice their models, they don't care about the wargame, they consider their production of 'collector's models' their first and foremost business, and to them, the issue was that people were not buying the fantasy models, so they shook things up with the setting, to make it like 40K, which is their biggest seller, hence the new bulky armored folks instead of the gothic aesthetic.

Units - crypt horrors ASAP as they are insanely OP and very easy to get. Zombies, skeletons and crypt ghouls as your line infantry until you get grave guard. Grave Guard as your line infantry when you can afford them. Switch to Grave Guard (Great Weapons) when fighting dwarfs or chaos and late game Empire. Black knights are good cavalry but are a pain to unlock and are pretty expensive. Blood Knights are an extreme pain in the ass to unlock but are the best cavalry in the game, by far. Vargheists, varghulfs and terrorgheists are all excellent units and are worth going for once you are comfortable with playing. You wanna avoid fell bats, though. Useless unit.

As for early strategy, do a raise dead immediately. You should be able to get 2 zombies, 1 skeleton and 1 skeleton spearman unit. After that, kill the army right next to you. After that, go straight for the settlement north of your city. While still on turn 1, delete the barracks in your capital and build a gold mine and charnel pit. The reason to delete the barracks is because the middle city already has one, and they only upgrade to tier 3, meaning it's a waste in a capital city. After that, go to the north city again on turn 3. This is usually a big turn, as they AI sometimes builds a garrison building in that city, making the fight way harder than it should be. Plus, the AI may send an army to the middle city to either sack it or recapture it, so don't build anything in it for a bit.

After killing off Templehof (purple vampires) and Schwartzhofen (green vampires), you will wanna chill out for a bit while spreading corruption to neighboring regions to make capturing them easier. While waiting for this, I usually start a war with the blue dwarfs to the south, exterminate them, and then the red dwarfs to the northeast.

I generally prefer picking Heinrich Kemmler as my starting Lord because his units are really cool and Mannfred is extremelyyyyy easy to unlock (capture the 5 vampire towns).

Always pick manfredd, spec for invocation. Take care of your starting varghulf, he can shit on pretty much anything but needs the leadership support til he's higher rank.

You dont have range units so use bats instead. Use them to tie up enemy range units or cavalry, and then send it troops to kill them. Vargheists seem weak because they can get killed pretty fast but can also dish out lots of damage, use them in tandem with bats, have them fly away if you see tougher enemies coming for them.

Siege battles are pretty fun. Obviously, you wanna lead with shielded or meat shield units so your good shit doesn't get destroyed by ranged units. High level walls in cities get better towers, so they will shred you. Since you have no ranged units, that means that everybody (barring flightless monsters and cavalry) will be able to go on the walls, which means you should generally, if you feel the need, build siege towers for each encounter. Flying units are super fun to use in sieges, especially vargheists, as they can just fly over the walls and come in behind when your towers/ladders make it and deal massive damage. If you do the tutorial for Vampires, it starts as a siege and can be a good intro to vampire sieging.

In the most recent patch, CA added a new ability to some units called 'Siege Attackers' which allows the army of that unit to be able to attack walled cities without requiring rams/towers/etc. Mannfred starts with one of those units and most monstrous units come with it.

I haven't done the greenskin thing personally but I prefer to do it anyway as it curbs the actual Dwarf faction quite hard by removing 2 confederation factions and getting your lords a good few levels and a hefty amount of cash. Plus, because of aversion, you will have to deal with them eventually. But you can totally attack the Bloody Spearz orcs who quite often go through your lands and are nearby, getting a bit of +rep with all non greenskins.

I personally pick a lord based on how easy they are to unlock compared to their starting units. Manny's varghulf is extremely throughout the game, but he's really easy to unlock - just conquer all of Eastern and Western Sylvania, whereas Kemmler requires you to build an expensive Tier 4 building, which is generally 40-60 turns into a game, compared to Mannfred's 15-25. It's really up to you and what units you prefer to start with. They're both solid choices, though.

That's exactly the idea. They don't care that it's just a different look for 40K style units, they specifically changed the style to resemble 40K because, as one insider put it, it was decided that what sold was not the setting, but big, armored dudes who looked shiny. Which is why we now how big, armored chaos dudes, big, armored khorne dudes, and big, armored ork dudes. Flavor is scrapped in favor of what sells the most, and what sells the most is random rule of cool shit that catches a kid's eye on a shelf. In age of Sigmar, many fantasy armies are entirely scrapped, major fantasy factions like brettonia, the empire, tomb kings, etc, were all done away with so that they could just make it about big dudes in bigger armor.

The "better shields" mods are nice for variety.

The Mousillon mod is pretty well done if you want some bretonnian undead.

Southern Realms is also good if you want to have Estalia, Tilea and the Border Princes more fleshed out into something.

Better camera and better loading screens are nice too.

Honestly there's not a hell of a lot out. that's game changing. I know there are a few mods they try to make magic more powerful but I've not used any of those yet.

Honestly just shop around and see if there's anything that peaks your interest.

I don't know about a free army, but subjugating baersonlings makes kislev and other AI ridiculously aggressive and they end up getting razed a lot unless you want to make a second stack and park it near them till they can defend themselves. Some anon claimed it isn't as bad if you awaken them at the northern town and use baersonling landing to just constantly sack for easy levels, but I don't know about that.

I like to sack and raze my way through norsica awakening tribes along the way, then when that is done take an army down to kill brettonia because they aren't too strong yet and taking htem out also gives you a lot of diplomatic bonuses with Moussilan, giving you some friendly territory down south to replenish in.

For first time playthrough, blood is all you need really. Everything else is just extensions to the game for repeat playthroughs. It's a grey area for the unit packs though, they're fairly minor.

My favourite culture pack is the Pirates & Raiders one and for campaign pack it's the Hannibal DLC.

But its actually pretty perfect. exactly how beastmen should be. I was never really excited for beastmen and i was surprised they were the first addition, but now it makes sense to add a pervasive threat around the entire map.

Actually had to choose between two towns and ended up ceding a town to marienburg in order to prevent beastmen from razing another.
Its okay because I then ambushed one of Marienburgs armies and then the other smaller one i took out while it was still in the settlement with a weak garrison.

So far I haven't been able to do Starcrusher (Kholek's one). The greenskin part is simple but the vampire buttfucking hurts quite a bit. I also struggle with Archaon's one where you have to kill the chaos sorcerer else more reinforcements will spawn. He constantly manages to escape and run across the map when he's nearly dead, and his army of chaos knights and hellcannons just fuck my shit up.

I resorted to trying to just rush gunbad and letting silver road get captured then retaking it once i got my gunbad economy up, but that doesnt even work because the only way to cap the settlement in that region before the other dwarf faction does is to rush straight there, which results in gunbad getting reinforced before i can make it back.

Yep, that explains why it's just three unit cards per race and nothing else. People that literally think that are going to add unique naval mechanics and gameplay to every race, as well as the Lizardmen, High Elves and Dark elves (and whatever other races that'll be in the area) in the New World expansion are completely overestimating how little time for all that a two year dev cycle is. Each race is basically the naval game from every total war (Dwarfs for FOTS, Bretonnia for Napoleon, Orks for Rome II, Empire for Attila etc.). It's completely unfeasible.

Naval combat will also never happen because that's not what CA want with the game, they constantly say that this is a WHFB adaptation, not Dreadfleet or Man O War.

Yes, i take pillars at turn 1 and the other one on turn 2. I build some army up and get to gunbad at turn 7, stopping to do the quest on the way to get my runesmith levels going so i can hopefuly upgrade gunbad sometime in the near future, but soemthing always ruins everything around turn 10-12.

Im getting closer to perfecting the opening though! Surely this time it will work!

My goal is to get walls on silver road, gunbad pumping out artillary, and have two solid armys. I feel that this is the starting position i require in order to start pushing out.

Thus far its just not worked, but it seems like bad luck, since different aspect of my plan always work, its just somehting happens to fuck something up in different ways each attempt. Ill just keep trying untill it works i guess.

I dont get very many casualties since ive done that fight SO FUCKING MANY TIMES i know how to cheese the ai with unit placements.

I never have trouble taking gunbad with a single auto resolve victory unless the rng that gives it 40 units magically kicks in in which case i couldnt take it manually either.

The quest makes it take 1 extra turn but it gives me the runesmith early enough that i can get him leveled by turn 10 or so if im lucky, meaning a good chunk of growth for gunbad.

You literally don't need any other units. Minotaurs and gorebulls can chase down fucking cavalry, take artillery and ranged attacks like fucking champs, easily rack up well over a hundred kills per unit and can basically just completely gank lords and heroes.

They're extremely fast, extremely hard hitting, and pretty well armoured.

If you like. I certainly tried all sorts of mixed armies but after a while I just couldn't shake the feeling that all I needed was minos, a gorebull or two, and maybe a shaman if I want to get fancy or do 2 turn sieges. Poison doges are absolutely MVP early game though.
