I liked the idea of exploration but it felt very awkward to do so, there where times I'd get lost or disorientated on later levels because of how much it throws you around.

So all the people who love S3+K where there's lots of "GoFast" sections I love S3+K where you do not much but press down to go faster are annoyed when there's literally nowhere you can do that outside of the second zone in CD.

I love the exploration aspect, there's more obstacles and places to use your spindash and platforming than in Sonic 2 for instance.

But no, we got a lot of "Sonic's about speed and there's things stopping me from going fast all the time" without realising a game you can do that on your first go would be pretty fucking shit. Or have massive arrows saying when to jump or roll 2 seconds before you do so.

Sally's the leader, the one who brings them all together and makes all the plans.
I know her plans fuck up like 90% of the time but that's only because Eggman has the Master Plan.

On personality, she's not even that bad. She's leader who wants to be more helpful than is possible and takes any defeat hard, like it's because she's failed the team.
But she also shows great compassion and understanding, knows how to organise forces, can stand up for herself in a fight when is needed. Or get her head smashed on a bar.

I'd say she was a good character who just needs to be given her own Universe story sometime. Nicole's was Nicole's, shh.

Nicole, Rotor and Tails being smarter on paper is irrelevant. Nicole is a computer. Rotor and Tails are tech experts. Being a tactician is completely different, especially when they get into the "do the logical heartless thing vs. do the emotional thing." In other words, if Sally is the Kirk then Nicole is the Spock and Rotor and Tails are Scotty. Sally should get better characterization when it comes to her role as the designated leader and tactician, but people will cry Mary Sue regardless.

Blaze is from another dimension, so making her a regular character outside of Universe misses the point of her character.

Antoine being a better fighter is the same thing as the aforementioned three being smarter. Sally doesn't need to be a better fighter because Antoine and Bunnie aren't better leaders.

Now, I do think her leadership should be improved and I do think the Freedom Fighters as a whole should be demoted in importance, but that's not justification for going full retard like you are. You're literally missing the point of multiple characters and saying they should be fucked around with in order to make Sally useless. That's a pretty stupid hateboner you have.

That's where the fun part comes in. She demands to come on missions, and pretty much, if you don't listen to her, then the team doesn't get funded and it all goes to hell. Main characters exist outside of the Freedom Fighters, and have for hundreds of issues. Knuckles and Shadow are main characters who operate outside of the Freedom Fighters.

Meanwhile, Jr Freedom Fighters like Big and Cream are not main characters, they're side characters who currently are tagging along with the group.

"Main Character-ness" can be ranked in tiers.

The arcade version used his actual songs. Presumably at that point SEGA had the rights so he couldn't fight the Genesis port or just didn't bother.

As far as Sonic 3, it was also partially that he wasn't familiar with composing for a video game soundchip, so he just had difficulty realizing his ideas, which is why he wasn't satisfied with the sound and left. All or at least most of those composers weren't skilled with working with a Genesis sound chip, which is why the SEGA Sound Team were the ones who actually made the music in game, and then they composed the music for Sonic & Knuckles. Which is why in interviews with other Sonic 3 composers, like Brad Buxor, they admit they don't actually know what music they made ended up in the game; they just wrote a bunch of music and SEGA sorted it out.

Sonic 3 credits music is probably the one track that MJ worked the most on, since he reused it later. And Buxor repurposed an unreleased track by his band from the 80s for Ice Cap.

But no, the real answer is the parent company for Sonic cares more about it that, agreeing to have a comic is seen as a way to continue advertisement to a long standing portion of the fanbase.

Megaman's parent company doesn't care about it as much as it's other "children". Right now Megaman is about 5th or 6th tier in terms of importance to Capcom while Sonic is 1st or 2nd to Sega. So a lack of audience for the game series itself in the current gaming climate is the reason for an even less audience for a Megaman Comic. If we were talking about Street Fighter, then it'd be a different situation.

Oh and it's not that Megaman doesn't have a big fanbase, just that it's in a catch 22 situation. Can't have an actively buying Megaman fanbase if there's no games, and can't have Megaman games if there's not an actively buying fanbase.

Japanese developers have a tendency to ignore game critics, especially western ones, and SEGA only ever listens to Sonic fans. I don't think he was paid but he was invited to an official stream about Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. And Arin, back in the Jon era, complained about the "Metroidvania" direction the Castlevania series went into several times. Jon wants to desperately defend the games but he doesn't know how to argue, this happened in the SOTN episodes and a few others. So I thought it was strange that Arin got involved with promoting a series that has everything he hates in it.

The guys Jackson brought on definitely did more. Like I said, seems like the credits song was the one MJ worked on the most, since it pretty obviously became "Stranger in Moscow". But even then, it's not like MJ met these people through Sonic 3. He brought them on because they were his usual songwriting collaborators. Any one of them could've written something that later became an MJ song, but no one pays attention to the songwriters in pop music who aren't also the performers.

Really, the vocal samples in Launch Base are probably a better example of Jackson's work in the game than any whole track.

Just make good games. Like other anons said, kids still like Sonic. If you make a game older fans like, the younger fans will probably like it too. They usually aren't as cynical in their opinions, so if it looks fun they'll enjoy it.

Cross promotion with Minecraft or Mario would do well too (which we already have with the Olympics, but something different would be good too). Boom getting a primetime spot as well.

Also that the Sonic movie becomes a huge hit on tier with the Lego Movie.


The comic on it's own to be more popular would just require advertisement from Sega themselves that it's a thing.

Knuckles got better when they hit Adventure 2 but fucking christ the acting in 1 was abysmal.

Boom Knuckles as a bro to Sonic is 50% of the reason I love him. The other 40% is the best lines in the show. And his idiocy is actually quite funny when they play it right.

I said good. I have a little cousin about six years and he is the embodiment of the shitshow that is the current generation. Minecraft, pewdiepie style let's players, phone games, you name it. But one weekend I had to watch him and I wasn't going to have any of that shit. So I switched on Netflix and scrolled down telling him to pick something. He yelled "That!" and lo and behold my little nigga picked Justice League. I asked him if he knew any of them and he said "Yeah thats Superman and the other one is Batman!". We blew through JL, JLU, and Young Justice and we enjoyed every minute of it together.

Kids don't know good shit from bad shit but that doesn't mean a product can't cater to older fans and not entertain the newer ones. This is one thing Nintendo does well and will continue to.

That said, it's difficult to do this

I think that moreso shows how much MJ recycles his tunes but I won't deny that he was supposedly a perfectionist and pushed his fellow songwriters to make great tunes that may or may not have ended up in the game.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. That one's most obviously recycled later, which makes it easy to point to as a song he started writing while working on the game.

Thought I read Buxor say in some interview the Launch Base vocals were MJ, but he also wasn't sure what songs made it into the game so who knows; you're probably right on that.

Basically. I've got two headcanons you could go with that I've seen various people use. Either Tails built him some surveillance system for when he's out travelling to help Sonic, or he figures Eggman's tried to use the M.E. enough and it not worked out that he's moved on with his plans. But if the M.E. were in danger again, he knows Sonic and everyone would help him get it back.

I personally go with the surveillance system one, which only got better with the Miles Electric becoming a constant. Basically slap some cameras and motion sensors around the emerald shrine and give Knux his own tablet.

I like to think of it as Tails needed Knuckles to find Sonic and the letter only said what, 3 days until World Domination or something. Knuckles can take a breather every now and again.
