It can't take place between Sonic 1 and 2, since Sonic 2 takes place a few days after Sonic 1 with no Eggman (as indicated by the Sonic 4: Episode I digital manual). If CD happened between 1 and 2, then there actually would have been signs of Eggman before 2, contradicting the game's story.

I'm feeling a variation on boost, expanding beyond what Unleashed, Colors, and Gens did. A bit more fleshed out movement system, perhaps a new take on parkour movement but without the Lost World gameplay style. Perhaps making spindash meaningful in same way, and giving Sonic the ability to actually do some platforming without going into 2D and/or slowing him down.

Of course,that's all just speculation on a tiny amount of CG movie, so I could be completely wrong.

If that's the case, it begs the question on why Sonic and Tails felt some familiarity with the zones in Gens. It implies Modern has been to these places before but if what Iizuka says is true then him and Classic aren't the same individual.

Parallel universe with different outcomes, perhaps? Episode 2 of Sonic 4 shows Stardust Speedway in a Bad Future state so it could point to Modern having failed in this universe while Classic succeeded in the other.

Fuck, it all sounds like baseless headcanon at this point. Ignore my autism.

Pontaff were brought on at around the same time SEGA of America fired their localization team; all Pontaff games were written in English and then localized for Japan, the reverse of previous games. So, my hope is that Pontaff are just working on the Boom games now, and mainline games are back to Sonic Team writers. But liked I said, we don't actually know who's writing the game yet.

I think most of the problem was with the fucking stream. If it would have worked properly it would have been a whole different story, and we would have been able to appreciate the Mania reveal in all its fucked up glory which we pretty much completely missed, we would have been able to watch and hear the concert and the people singing, and maybe we could have caught some parts that were cut off for reasons unknown and where nothing was being shown.

The second biggest problem is how they fucking got the stream off stage to show stuff people weren't anywhere near as interested in. It could maybe have been a good idea if they showed interesting stuff that rivaled what was being shown on stage, but that was not the case and what was shown wasn't well planned or executed at all.

I'm probably missing other things but other than those two and the botched Mania reveal I think it was okay.

Oh man, that whole part was lost in the stream. I'm so upset and disappointed. Though maybe it was for the better, I would have taken it much worse if I had heard Aaron linking Project 2017 to Mania like he did. Now I get why Iizuka said that Mania wasn't Project 2017 before the second reveal, I thought it was only implied that it was.

I think I was in the twitch when they were working on the missing teaser, but I didn't believe they I actually found it. Someone needs to make a detailed guide to the teasers at some point.

One of the things about the party I had noticed is that there was no downtime during any of it. Like there's something happening on the stage at all times which makes it seem like there's no way you could see everything if you were there since there were also the game demos and autograph sessions.

I think there should've been a couple times where the people on stage take a break for 20 minutes or so which would clear up time for the attendees to check out an autograph session or play the Sonic Mania demo and that can also be the time where the stream would cut to an interview or advertise their stuffed nachos.

Of course, there were many other things wrong with that stream and I could spend all day listing them and coming up with easy solutions to each one but what's done is done.

Is there a video of the Sonic Boom cast session anywhere? The stream decided to cut away from that for some retarded reason.

Eggman being usurped by Chaos, his own Grandfather and Metal Sonic was pretty cool to me.
The Gaia and Iblis and Nega and Gemerl and Genies were a bit too far though in a row.

And then we got "SURPRISE EGGMAN IS THE END VILLAIN AGAIN" for 7 years. Like it's cool and all and true to the originals but I wouldn't mind Eggman being blown out by something he was trying to control.

Exactly. Honestly the jokes really do help it maintain a level of levity. Colors is the perfect kind of plot and tone for Sonic. Lighthearted, goofy, doesn't take itself seriously, almost self aware, and occasionally does something serious, but never kills the mood

I'd say best Modern Sonic stories are the Adventures, Heroes if you tone down the cheese a bit, Unleashed, and Colors. They've all got, to varying extents, a good balance of light-hearted moments and time to get serious moments.

Basically the only ones that are particularly bad are 06 and Shadow. I'm not counting Generations because it's basically an excuse plot to rehash old levels, and Lost World is just kind of there.

06 couldn't really get the pacing for lighthearted and serious right, and the weaknesses in the plot itself were compounded by the visual design choices. It might have been a bit more tolerable if characters had designs closer to the Adventures or Unleashed.

Shadow, with all the edginess going for it, really has as cheesy dialogue as Heroes. Only difference is Shadow swears a lot.

Yeah. Honestly they need some new jokes, but outside of that, I'd argue Colors had the best story of any Sonic game because it avoided a lot of dumb shit. No raging gods, no dumb werehog, no cast of thousands, no unintentional cheese, just Sonic and Tails stopping Eggman from doing bad shit in a goofy story, that's how it should be done, Also Sonic doesn't act like a gutless "nice guy" like he does in other games. He's still got an attitude and gives absolutely zero fucks about anything like he should.

Lost World tried to raise the stakes in a way that yeah, was forced and dumb. If they had more leading up to that moment other than minute long cut-scenes it might have meant something when Sonic felt alone or Eggman went.

And yeah, while I love the idea of the Flicky as a being sentient as the robot and going against it's programming, the PTSD scene is kinda chilling. Sonic's story's cool though.

I think of it as Adventure 1 being the standard but I wouldn't complain if it was Colours tier.

Like, Sega seems to be doing several big things for Sonic now, and there's this game that looks to be pretty big and encompassing and has a movie like plot, and it's gonna come out a year before the movie? I don't quite remember, the last time I gave Hydrus a try was many months ago, and I didn't get to do much with it because I left /sthg/ for a while right after I started toying around with it.

Try this: Select a bunch of files in the windows explorer and drop them into Hydrus. It should start displaying your images in an importing tab. Double click the first image and it should show in full screen, which is where you're gonna see your images one by one and do your tagging. Now press escape to go back to the last screen, and go to file->options->shortcuts, and set up your shortcuts. You'll want the "manage_tags" option to open up the window to manage each image's tags, and a shortcut to advance and go back in your image list. You can have another shortcut to archive the images as you go through them and remove them from your importing list, or you can tag your whole importing list first, review it, and then archive it all at once with one click after you're certain you're done with it and you like how it turned out.

Keep in mind I'm using the version I downloaded then, so maybe things aren't quite the same in the newer versions.

Am I the only one that thinks Sticks is the fucking dumbest name for a Sonic Character thus far?
Besides Bark. I mean they both relate to wood though and don't fit their characters' personalities at all.
So what does Sticks' name denote?
Sonic = speed. He moves at the speed of sound
Tails= he flies using his propeller-like tails
Knuckles= named after his spiked fists, which are his most prominent feature and denote his strength.
Amy= Typical name of a cute japanese girl. It describes Amy as being an otherwise normal girl. A fan of Sonic's, who gets fired up when she wants something.
Fang= his most notable trait is the sharp tooth sticking out and possibly relates to his aggressive mercenary ways.
Honey=related to her color and personality being sweet and light, with a bit of natural tang to it.
Shadow= The shadow of a future hedgehog he was created after. Also relating to the darker side of Sonic (or Super Sonic if you subscribe to the Angel Island mural theory)
Rouge= Denotes deception and mystery. Who's the face behind the makeup? Perhaps it might also be a phonetic reference to "ruse"? It also relates to beauty and vanity.
Omega= The end. Refers to his destructive tendencies and might have been named this as a double entendre. Eggman might have seen him as the end of the E-series, or the machine to end Sonic finally (at the time).
Charmy= He's charming and is relatable to flowers, which he can "charm" to open
Espio= Literally short for Espionage, which is a tactic for Ninjas to operate under to avoid detection. It tells you he is very good at not being seen, which relates to his camouflage abilities.
Cream= Sweet and mild. She is very polite, good-natured and well-mannered. It doesn't refer to any of her abilities, but it does describe her personality.

Sticks doesn't tell anything about her personality or her abilities.
I would have named her Rangs the Badger or something.
It relates to both her ability to throw and control boomerangs, and the shape of her hair. So it ties into both her abilities and her design.

most of my ocs were just Sonic with different levels of good or evil. they were part of a fanfic that pit the original sonic against a different one that tried to kill sonic for more speed similar to how that jet li movie worked. the original sonic had no limit to his speed while the others had additional powers with the price of being speedcapped. I lost most of it long ago and only remember a few of their names.

Sticks = boomerang. Named after her hut made of sticks in the jungle, she also uses a piece of wood as a weapon and wears brown clothes.
