I gotta say though. Unless your character is very diesel, an early unseen horror is a serious danger. They have decent evasion (and you lose accuracy if you dont have SInv) and can often move back after attacking, getting multiple hits on you while you get nothing on them.

There aren't really any "bad" upgrades, all of them benefit you in some way. The upgrades you'd pick depend on how you want to play.

Enemy sense lets you approach encounters from good positions, avoid getting multiple encounters at once, or avoid encounters entirely and dive like mad. You can dive to see later floors if you haven't gotten very far in the game yet.

Nightingale pairs well with quick summon+quick dismiss since your dudes regenerate faster and swapping out dudes is instant.

Capacity up lets you carry around an additional demon which gives your party more variety and a spare meatshield.

Translator makes copying abilities to your player character half as expensive which is good for getting your dude set up quickly.

Some of the others are situational or tough to use well (like recycle, soul armor, revelation, transpose soul). Upgrades that reduce ability costs or give you more money or more shit are kinda boring but they don't require any foreknowledge in their use.
