I'm a new shitter and have been rolling through everything on normal and I'm assuming thats because VC are broken since I don't have to worry about morale while spooking the shit out of everyone else. Invocation of Nehek has a cooldown longer than its duration. Having multiple of them rolling over and over is really powerful. Overcast 1, 1 is on cooldown, 1 expires, cast 2, 2 is on cooldown, 1 is off cooldown... etc. It will make your cluster immortal. They are also really good for splitting engagements. Their auras have limits to their range, so having multiple is good.

Try to ally with Nordland early for a quest you'll get, avoid confederating too early because it'll drag you into useless wars. Build up reikland until Chaos invades, then when you've dealt with them, you'll have a bonus that'll essentially give you free confederation.

Turn 1: Attack enemy army near Grunburg, beat it
Turn 1a: Move army to attack the settlement
Turn 1b: Move army back into Reikland, recruit 3 Swordsmen

Turn 2: Attack Grunburg if you didn't, else move on to the one in the Southwest, capture it, delete barracks in Altdorf since the SW settlement will have it, recruit 3 more swordsmen

Turn 3: Finish off rebels, capture Eilhart, recruit 3 more swordsmen.

Now is where it gets interesting. You want Marienburg to the west of Eilhart - it has a unique building that generates massive income, but it's very well fortified and generally has a 20 stack army in it as well as its garrison. If you are good at sieges, you can probably do it. If you don't want to attack the city while the enemy army is in it, set your army to ambush mode outside Eilhart and hope you don't get cucked by RNG. After that, attack Gorssel in the north. Sack it, then raze it. You don't want this settlement as it will suffer constant raids from Chaos which will generally do more harm than good from actually building the settlement up.

All the while doing this, you wanna build Altdorf up for either Reikguard, Demigryphys or Greatswords and if you want, the College to unlock Balthasar. In regards to the other factions nearby, you can keep vampires sweet by attacking orcs, but these usually die to other human and dwarf AIs nearby really early on. You also want to focus on forging a defensive (ideally not military) alliance with Nordland for the Reikland Runefang quest for Karl.

There are some settlements of relative importance you might want to capture if you want OP cavalry, namely the one directly north of Altdorf for the Knights Panther Chapter House and Couronne (Bretonnia's capital) for the Couronne training grounds. You will be able to recruit rank 6+ Reikguard and Demigryphys with both, rank 7+ with a tech. Grunburg (Reikland) also has a building that increases the level of Cavalry. It's ridiculously powerful but takes time to get.

I only downloaded it because greenskins and vcounts felt underwhelming size wise. I wanted larger armies for them since it felt fitting.

It can make it harder to use some units, like ranged units in vanilla I think have 60, which is way easier to manage than 75.

Yeah. Don't make Thunderers move. Have parts of your line fall back to lure enemies into Thunderer cross fire or have a bit more gap in your line. Dwarf high leadership means you can let them get surrounded a bit without a problem. This lets your thunderers shoot enemies that are oozing around the sides.

I actually use both very thin and very deep Dwarf lines in different situations. High Dwarf Mass means it doesn't take a deep line to stop enemy charges effectively. I'll use deep formations to create gaps to shoot through.

On Hand Gunners vs Thunderers. Ranged output wise I believe they are the same. If there's a difference it's in their reload time because their damage is the same. Even melee damage is almost the same (+1 weapon damage for thunderers).

However, Thunderers have +60 armor, bronze shield (30%), +16 leadership, +4 melee attack, and +11 melee defense. They have 2 less ammunition but that's not as significant as you'd expect given that Thunderers are a way better melee unit. Thunderers are also way better at absorbing enemy ranged fire and will last significantly longer in any situation where they get attacked.

Again though. Don't try to move Thunderers. They take too damn long to reach a flank. Move other things so they get shots. And remeber that Thunderers are dwarves, dwarves are short, and that means they get straight shots a little more easily over friendly heads.

The best unit to flank with as dwarves are Irondrakes. I can't take this shit. EVERY OTHER BATTLE is cloaking the enemy until they are within blasting charge range. Every time reinforcements are fed in, they are invisible. It's completely ruining my armies with ranged builds. The radar doesn't even register a line of sight on these battles, what the hell is going on? Pic related, there's 5 empire units out there somewhere, they didn't show in deployment and I can't find them with my gyrocopters.

The runesmith is in the center to buff the other two heroes, but this was my standard formation. But you could easily use heroes the entire way instead of melee infantry.

I'd usually supplement this force with some more reserve elite infantry, a flanking force of irondrakes, More artillery or even some gyrocopters to skirmish. Quarrellers were for anti skirmisher duties.

They are incredibly useful, not only for suppression of enemy heroes but also slowing down fleeing armies and damaging intact ones. Each kind of Hero also has more random buffs that complement different builds and racial weaknesses (Dwarfs can increase growth, Vampires can hasten reinforcement and reduce attrition). Generally I find as i get better at the game I use agents more and more.

Map actions early on are usually just Happiness from some of the fightier heroes and assassinations, and wizards are almost exclusively battlefield focused.

But the good thing about using agents on the map to peform actions, even if you're only dubious about their positive affects for you is the the fact that they'll gain experience far FAR faster than just embedding.

This isn't so much an issue once you're researched ways to give them more levels, but early on it can be pretty key to actually being able to get a decent combat or magic hero.

I don't mind it being one side of the city and I get why they made it more geometrical (for their siege AI)

but I still prefer the more scenic and cinematic battlefields of attila.

I'm also disappointed in underground maps they're all just straight tunnels except with slight rises and dips here or there. There's no maze tunnel map or maps with small galleries to fight one unit wide in for side flanking corridors. no maps with choke points to assault or defend or maps with massive pillars that block line of sight.

Some ideas seemed great but were just poorly executed and I can only hope they can either be improved or modded in the future.

I have no clue how they survive in such high numbers with limited food and water supply. Of course they eat each other, but that doesn't seem sustainable.

The only answer I can come up with is that it is the chaos wastes and reality is warped. Time flows much differently and the laws by which the remainder of the world is forced to abide by are not always applied.

If you damage a settlement enough it loses it's garrison. I've taken settlements without a battle because of this. I have not quite figured out the actual mix of damage to walls vs damage to settlement building. I believe it's fully destroying the settlement building (reduce it's health to nothing but it's still in the slot to be repaired).

I've found using agents against walled settlements to be extra useful when you have a stack with a higher % of cav to it's melee main line. Though it's also fair whenever you want to avoid a wall fight. Breaking walls gives holes that you can quickly attempt a surge through and get to enemy ranged/artillery. Holes in walls can also be an opportunity to shell units from safety (break a siege tower and a gap of safety occurs). Damage to the settlement in general can help reduce health of towers/walls in an area though you likely don't start with a breach.

For example, in my last chaos campaign. I had one unit of each type (exalted hero and chaos sorcerer) each bash a settlement before I hit it. I also had cannons in my army. That army also had about 8 units that where always a mix of warhounds or cavalry as well as some monsterous units that can't go onto the walls. So my melee main line was only about 6 units and a wall fight was a bad idea. I had very little trouble in most sieges destroying a tower, and then taking my time to create some breaches, break the gate, and surge through from multiple angles into one interior area.

I'm expecting Beastman to generally avoid wall fights too.

If we had beastmen of all animals it would get pretty confusing pretty fast. What would the difference be between a lizard beastmen or a rat beastman and lizardmen/skaven? That's probably why GW didn't expand on the idea.

Beastmen that worship specific gods are known to mutate in specific ways however. Slaangors develop gaudy fur patterns like tigers whereas Tzaangors morph into birdmen.

My own assessment of Metal is that it's outclasses.

Now that I look over Heavens. Harmonic Convergence is really good. Area affect "fighting bonus" buffs with low cost I've found are really reliable for any fight. +melee attack and +melee defense is a good combination that should work regardless of unit tier. Oh and duration higher then cooldown.

Curse of Midnight wind looks okay.

Heavens also has a lot of attack spells that are Bombardment but Bombardment spells are eh. I suppose Heavens is in a "certain classes of attack spells need buffs" category.

Final Transmutation can be a bit awkward. It feels like the one great spell in the lore though.

Also I think Lore of Fire is pretty good. Mostly on the back of Cascading Fire Cloak and Flaming Sword of Rhuin which are cheap and spammable. Fireballs a good magic missile and the other three damage spells tend to be among the better of their types in my experience though by no means do you need to use them.

Is Light of Battle in Lore of Light even useful? When would you use unbreakable to good effect anyway?

So I've found an anti-deathstar strat that I think will work post patch. Couple stripped down Celestial Wizards with Wind Blast just landing two spells in tandem into the deathstar as it hits your lines.

Windblast has very little cooldown and devastates a Cairne Wrath unit. In comparison the other Lore of Heaven damage spells do very little damage especially for their higher costs/cast times/avoidability.

The problem with tomb kings was they were a faction that's strength was in using tons of light cavalry and chariots. Neither of which played well on the Table top.

The rest of thier units end up being very lack luster and because GW never updated armies for years at a time they fell to the way side coming out of the gates underpowerd and having their update delayed due to poor sales because they couldn't compete with the power creep.

The sad truth about the table top game is if you can't make a cheesy list then your faction wont sell well. Because most of the players are power gamers who would rather get a steam roll win than have a enjoyable back and forth game

Skaven are the most original race hands down. When Skaven were released in 1986 rat-men were pretty damn unique for fantasy and they are still unusual. They have the best origins story, great characters, interesting designs and clans and are really the only viable vast horde faction in TT.

Tomb Kings have a lot of fast units, archers and units that pop out of the ground. But they're hardly an "ambush faction" in the same way Beastmen are.
