REM anon here. We're doing some serious shit with the structure system. If it works, 1000 part vessels no problem. Also unfucking the visuals a little. Should have a demo out soon, which will include better AI, a new arena, sound, optimisation, particles and some other stuff. The trello should have the things we're working on right now. We're shooting for this weekend. I've been lurking for a bit because I've noticed my spamming of minute things was annoying people.

If you're still here Alganon, I've got a suggestion for a slight change to the 'food' for this design.
If you make the food have two separable parts (probably different layers for ease of use) of similar size, then you could have the machine take one layer as 'sustenance' and eject the other without using a shit pod.
This would let it be limited by the number of food items it can store, rather than the number of pods it starts with.

>>149247729
Yep, still here. I posted >>149245558 just before.

They're not actually shit pods, they're meant to be eggs. They have 2 laters. The outer spiky shell is fixed to the background (which gets deleted when the "teeth" hit it).
The food is conveyed through the central canal. When it's at the bottom it implants the food into the egg and ejects it.

If it runs out of eggs it just ejects the food as it is.

Ooh, so it's a combined egg-laying system AND what I said, noice.
If you feel like really going nuts with it, you could make it collect two or three food into each egg before laying them.

As for the rambling thing, you're in the engineering general. It's what we all do when our autism activates.

As for tutorials, there's nothing that will teach you much about the mechanics of it. There are some scripting guides on the forums but I can't script for shit.
Start off making guns and cannons/catapults. Look on the scene repository and try reverse engineer things that look interesting.

>>
>We use a single resource to achieve this. It's called money.

So, ftd will have a single resource regardless? Material and energy?

What escalated that thread so much its burning?
>>
>>149258739
it will only have material as a resource that you can gather. Fuel is refined from material, energy is generated with fuel and ammo is made from material.
>>
>>149258739
Went kinda too fast for me to understand.

Though in a later version i hope to see a return to a more complex system uniting both the multiple resources and tech aspect, possibly with multiple resource zones each giving only one or two resources (oli fields, mines, quarries, forests, etc) and some strategic points containing "tech" (ie: a rare mineral that once processed with crystal create a better quality one for example)

fake UNSC destroyer with a ventral gravity cannon and she used to have purposefully slow turning/accelerating which now just doesnt work at all really

Hadn't fleshed out the inside yet other than gyros and the cannon, I did want several hangars and smaller ships for utility/repair/swarm fighters.

The gravity cannon could rip a red ship in two pretty much with one shot, reasonably big slug at around 100ms or so but I forget the details. I cant figure out grav cannos properly so that was the best I could get

The plates on the side are all on locked rotors which suprisingly don't clang at all, 6 plates for each side (none on bottom or top) which work as decent armor but are more for RP/style

Honestly, a /two/-resource system isn't bad. At least a few games use it; one of my favorites is Supreme Commander, where you have Mass and Energy (the "building" process there is units pretty much get 3D printed by lasers / sintered by lasers / "grown"), so it's not bad.

If he just changed it, nobody would have blinked any more than usual. It's because he held a vote, lost, called the results irrelevant, went with it anyway.

Developing REM, I can understand his frustration. ROTORS But he's conducting himself like a child.
>>
>>149299780
Rotors in REM are a meme, it's for building chassis not robots. The long awaited vertex-and-plane building style with WWIIO-lite penetration mechanics is shit we've literally been waiting five years for someone to give us.

The most I expect out of REM with respect to movable grids is a system that simply changes the attributes of a vertex to simulate a joint that could be actuated by a powered cylinder. Even then it would be more for the purpose of control surfaces but still would allow for creativeness in use.

And you have plenty of detractors. Primarily it has to do with your beliefs about lobbies, matchmaking and game-modes. I don't agree with the SL/PSO lobby system and I would prefer an optional 'GO' button.

There are less nations capable of making jets than ones making nukes. Large aircraft jets are very complicated to make, design and keep working. Nah she isn't, she doesn't care one way or the other. From what I've seen there isn't a drop of conviction in the woman at all, the only thing she has any strong convictions for are her desire for power and her obvious contempt for common people.

Okay, so Crossouts actually fun now, amazingly.

They got rid of part durability, so now you can build whatever crazy shit you want, and not have to worry about all your parts wearing out and needing to be replaced constantly.

To counter this they made crafting more "grindy", whci i have no problems with.

Under the old system, with durability, if I wanted to craft a 76mm cannon turret Id need to rent a workbench($$$ real money), and then gather these items

>100 scrap
>50 copper
>1 carjack
>1 medium ST wheel
>stationary 76mm cannon
>craft them all into a "76mm Turret"

And then that turret would last through 40 losses, which is easily a day or two of playing every night, since matches are usually less than 5min long, and need to be replaced.

But now that theres no durability a 76mm cannon uses up

>450 scrap
>50 copper
>2 carjacks
>2 medium ST wheels
>3 stationary 76mm cannons

And now you can keep it forever, or use it up to make the next higher up tier of cannon turret, which is great.

My only worry is that they said they are only trying this system out. So for all we know they might try it for a month to pull players back in again, and then say fuck you, and go back to the shitty durability system again. They've already got a bunch of cocksuckers on the beta forums going "B-BUT MUH DURABILITY. I LOVED HAVING DURABILITY, WHY DID YOU TAKE AWAY! THE GAME IS RUINED NOW! IT MADE THE GAME IMMERISVE AND REALISTIC!!"
>>
>>149314979

Derp, forgot to point out, that you still have to rent workbenchs under the new system.

But I figure fuck, they have to make some money somehow. Or you can sell parts on the market still to get gold from other players, which you can then use to rent workbenchs, and maybe premium time in the future. Who knows.

They've already said that when the game goes live they will have "Gold Packs" for sale.

But only if you signed up for the Crossout Beta and got accepted I think.

Or if you buy one of their packs that comes with a car and a bunch of parts to get in right away.

It's interesting how objects act when subjected to high speeds. Just high forces wouldn't do that - you can't have a slowly advancing unbreakable wall and have the same thing happen.

I seriously doubt Trump will actually pull some crazy WW3-tier shit, they guy spent the last 70 years diligently crafting an empire, while avoiding risks and almost always correctely gauging opportunities.

He fucking runs to unfuck America, and he´s being completely unapologetic about it. That kinda person won´t just squash the big red button once he´s in office.

You might argue that he´s just a giant con, but if he was only doing this for his own personal gain he would have no need to run for president. Only thing he had to do then was put a billion into Hillarys´s campaign and get exclusive rights on all her future decisions as POTUS.

Hey fellow autists. I used to play tekkit and am wondering how I can best get another fix of industrial goodness. Is there any minecraft clone that focuses on what tekkit did (IC2, buildcraft, reactors etc)? I am more interested in a 3d game and not something like factorio.

Inb4 infinifactory, already got that and its not really the same thing. Also I did also ask on /mcg/ but no one there seems to care about building factories. Thx
>>
>>149333845
/mcg/ is deder than here lad, that's why no one answered you, be patient with the ded generals.
An industryserb was planned but never got off the ground thanks to the sheer amount of minetweaking needed to make it work like the old days.
You're best off making your own pack.
If you want, you can entirely replicate the feeling of Tekkit in 1.7.10, alternate versions/updated versions/remakes of all the mods are out there.
>>
>>149333845
>>149334039

>>
>>149335264
It's the exact opposite for me, though. With Mingecrap, I can't look past all its countless glaring design mistakes and horrible gameplay to see all the great mods which, honestly, surpass the original piece of shit game in every way. I don't like meaningless tedium with my autism.

All this FtD drama is annoying. All I wanted was to have the power that be address salvage and resources in one go. We had a great opportunity to make a solid fix and instead we're looking at a duct-tape bandaid.

I still think folding oil into this materials blanket completely borks any strategic element of resource expansion. Why couldn't we get Materials, Oil and Salvage. Materials from nodes and used for processing and building, Oil from other nodes and used for fuel and salvage from wrecking shit, and able to be processed into materials (at a reduced rate) or ammo and shit.

Instead we just have a price-tag on all our designs, no address to the cap-and-scrap campaign meta and a forum that's equal parts pissing off and sucking up.

I just want to build planes and boats /egg/; it shouldn't be this hard to deal with.

>full yellow belt of iron or going in to my smelters
>slightly less than full yellow belt of plates going out
what the actual fuck
>>
>>149341970
Conservation of matter applies.
If less than a yellow belt is going out, then less than a yellow belt is going in.
Chances are that your outgoing belt isn't fully compressed, but moving at max speed - as opposed to the ingoing belt that is fully compressed but moving at less than max speed.

Regardless, you should post a picture of your setup so that we've intangible proof that it's error#40.
>>
>>149341970
>>149342802
Also, check your production statistics (press P).
Remember that a yellow belt has a maximum throughput of 13 items/s - red and blue carry respectively two and three times that.
Thus, if your entire production is off that sole yellow belt, you'd expect a maximum of 800 iron/m.

Turns out that sabiroids won't get farther than 2.5m from the ground level. If they're walking on a ramp they stop (but the walking animation will still plays).
If you lift them from the ground, they'll play the dig animation wherever they are and vanish.
Once again, thanks keen for fucking my plans up. Dogs follow you on ramps, why not spiders? Some versions ago it wasn't like this, even though they still vanished after a while they'd follow you up ramps.

Fortunately I found sabiroid shaped blocks so I can pretend that all my work wasn't for nothing.

What do spiders eat?

You should use a programming block to control the rotors and thrusters to make a stable vtol/tilt-rotor. It's what I spend most of my time on.

Also, Mi-8 guy, you should script your helicopters to use only vertical thrust, make it more helicopter-like.

You cant even pass the 8000m/s mark without having fuck ups even with rigid ships, so, unles spengos randomly unlock your shit, its not about the speed anymore, its about the phyisics saying, fuck it, i wont make more calculations on this shit, and there, wheels go its own way and everything set on rotors or pistons detach.
This is mostly when you have lots of stuff on screen, and simspeed goes down to 0.2

What they NEED to do is tie that to their "pick a brick" deal, so you can compile your build into an order, give a small discount based on brick count, and suggest additional pieces to order as spare parts.

Still haven't heard back from Nick, so this might not go anywhere, but here's a non-binding, half-assed proposal that should help with the people not happy with the resources change:

I'm thinking that the resource system should be moddable, much like how Factorio does things. This would take a lot of work, since resources are currently hardcoded variables, but it should be doable. This would allow those who don't like the new resources to plug in their own.

My only concern is that this would force people to have a recipe for each resource pack, but I suspect there'll just be two, much like Factorio and Bob's Mods.

This looks nice actually. But I fancy this thing as having offroad capabilities as well (at least when you disable hydrogen thrust and keep it glued to whatever surface by downforce jets, can actually scale hills at 120+ km/h sometimes).

Tomorrow I'll attempt an around the planet tour when I build this in my survival game, just needs a few refinements and possibly a fully electrical thrust cnversion.

Its in pre-alpha, anon, the fucking damage code doesn't even exist yet. Literally just physics.

Right now we're rewriting the physics so 1000+ part count per ship is easy shit. Panels won't fall off unless you smash your face into a wall at stupid high speeds like an idiot, or your structure takes a good ol HE round into it from a weak point.
>>
>>149397310
Rods from god was never meant to be a weapon with a huge area of effect, the purpose of Kinetic Bombardment was to punch deep into bunkers. The idea being that the rod would act just like an AP shell, but that dropping it would cause it to fly faster than any armor piercing shell or steel capped bomb ever could. KB is only good if you want to hit a stationary target that's heavily armored or buried.
>>
>>149426816
Arguable. Get a massive enough object and you can produce significant destruction. I would assume projectile design would play a large role in damage distribution.
>>
>>149427034
Well obviously, but if I remember correctly the original KB "rounds" were tungsten steel darts with some maneuvering thrusters on the end. Those would obviously be AP. A squat projectile meant to disperse it's energy outward would meet massively greater air resistance and would probably be more difficult to land on target presuming it didn't just melt on reentry in the first place. Orbital bombardment lends itself to AP, more complicated, fatter projectiles will pose more and more problems.

Re-render of what it actually looks like.
>>
>>149427667
Probably not very well against anything with armor on it. Also the wind would carry them way off target. Go heavier with something like bowling ball sized shot and they'd probably melt during reentry. If you wanted to drop a spread of weapons you'd probably want a cluster munition which will guide the "shot" through reentry and then release it above the target. Perhaps a drum filled with cylindrical spikes packed with explosives with a heat shield on one and maneuvering thrusters on the other. Once its on the final approach to a target it opens up like a conventional cluster bomb and dumps the spikes on it, which then explode as they reach the target.

There are probably much more cost effective ways to achieve a similar effect, but that's the most sensible orbital cluster bomb I can think of.

>>149431531
Sloped armor typically increases the length of the tank, if you're under design constraints for the length and width of the tank then you want to maximize the internal volume otherwise you couldn't fit say a turret ring - this is why the PzIII and PzIV had flat armor, to counter this crews were trained to angle their hulls at 45 degree angles to the enemy for the otherwise same amount of deflection if the armor was sloped.

Also this allowed them to fit a relatively large gun on a small chassis. Although the size of the PzIV's turret ring and turret would fail to allow the 75mm/70 and require the development of the Schmalturm.

Also modern armor has actually outpaced MBT firepower. Which is why modern tanks have less sloping than something like a Challenger tank and a MBT Flank Panther with it's bulked front armor and optics and flat turret or a Leopard 2 with flat turret and angled spaced armor add-ons.
>>
>>149432347
Also sloped armor has a noticeable impact on the height of the gun as well, russian MBTs had the problem of having awful gun depression and even elevation because the breech couldn't go down into the tank very much.

A good example of this problem and solution is the S-tank where it's SUPER sloped. This doesn't even have a turret.

The solution was to make the chassis move to position the gun by depressing or elevating the whole suspension.

Another tank with this capability is the K2 Black Panther which could sit, stand, kneel or lean to give it a lower profile or help angle the gun.

This is also key when the S-tank was developed after concluding that since most tanks were killed as a result of height - a shot to the turret instead of the body - in WWII and the Korean war. Why bother sloping your armor if they shoot you in the head? So they removed the head of the tank.
>>
Another design with sloped armor is the whole weight distribution of the tank. You'r putting too much emphasis on a strong sloped front when you could easily be penetrated in the sides - by what people perceived in tank doctrine at the time speed>armor after WWII with the development of stronger AT rounds and weapons.

This is how the Leopard 1 and my favorite tank the Batchat and AMX-13 series developed.

It's showing whether a voxel is filled with gas or not. The number is supposed to be the room index (I think). Red means not pressurized, barfy cyan means pressurized (see upper right corner).

Me, in my infinite wisdom, decided to set the debug mode of the room detector to true.

This makes it assume fucking everything, including space, is a room, which lead to about 1 frame per minute of pure 0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

It's actually fairly decent, although the code is spaghetti code. This particular debug tool is showing what the game has decided is a room. It normally looks like this, which is when N3X15 hasn't fucked with the code to break the data pruning stuff that keeps the display sane.

I'm trying to figure out why the "battle bridge" at the back of this thing isn't pressurized. Since I'm on a dev build, it's probably a block someone forgot to set airtight.

Warp jumps in 40k actually operate on scientific principles. FTL travel is theoretically impossible because so much hinges on speed of light being a constant, so the only way to FTL is to change speed of light itself, in this case by travelling to another dimension.

Technically speaking, I think its not the speed constant that changes, its the distance between things that exists in a flux state. As far as I can remember anyway, most of the time when I'm cognizant of 40k, I'm more worried about being mind fucked by either the daemons or the fanbase.
>>
>>149447987
Well if they did manage to change c, they could just fly a warp engine into the nearby sun and watch a couple solar system disappear.
>>
>>149448150
I feel it's a bit of a stupid question, but I'm tired as hell.
Is there any way to make an artificial particle faster than c just to fuck with causality?
>>
>>149448150
Suns, litterally speaking, don't exist in the warp. Using the same metric, nothing does. The things that exist in the warp cannot exist in reality without something going horrifically wrong. A thing exiting and entering the warp is going the same speed as it always was.

>>149448239
No, you can only bypass c by using alternative methods of transit other than traditional.
>>
>>149448239
Well in theory in a vector form of space time a thing going FTL will have to be moving more forward than forward, it will also be moving backwards in time as a result.
>>
>>149448330

So would it hit the target sun when the sun was younger, based on how far away it was from the sun before it exceeded c?
>>
>>149448330
>in theory
In which theory? Because in what Albert wrote the speed of light cannot be surpassed and while you can plunge v=2*c in his formulae, that is error of the same class as division by zero.
>>
>>149448489
Well in theory for people on the theoretical FTL space ships time wouldn't pass at all (or they go mad from human time perception being fucked with) because it's going faster than fast, but for an outside observer it's origin point and it's destination will be reversed as if it literally travelled backwards.
>>
>>149448239
How do you imagine that? It is the law of nature that forbids this. Well, as far as current human understanding of universe goes.
You cannot do something laws of nature don't allow.
>>
>>149449221
There's no law of nature that forbids us from fucking with the laws of nature.
>>
>>149449221
We can bend laws, not constants. You're thinking of constants.
>>
>>149449304
In theory you can make a "warp" drive that makes speed of light faster in a localized bubble, but then I presume any light shining on such a drive will disintegrate it. Photons have mass too.
>>
>>149449221
But what things were ever invented by hitting a wall and just accepting it? No one ever learned shit by just accepting things. Plus, black holes and many other phenomena seem to give less than half a shit about our laws of physics. So why not imagine and try crazy shit that we think is impossible instead of just jumping to "NAH 'SIMPOSSIBLE GIVE UP"

The nuke dropped on Nagasaki had a mass of 4670 kg and an explosive yield of 88 TJ.
For an object of the same mass to reach a 88 TJ worth of kinetic energy, it'd have to travel at nearly 20000 m/s.
Estimates put the chelyabinsk meteor at 19000 m/s - which exploded several kilometers above surface.
There are several practical reasons why rods from god aren't in use.

While specific brands of margarine may contain dairy products, the principal ingredients are fat (whether vegetable or animal) and water.
Although I know jackshit of UK legislation, it only takes a minute to verify that Sainsbury's (major UK grocery chain) does in fact sell margarine.

I think margarine was originally made differently, and there was a ban on dying it yellow (since it's naturally white).
Nowadays it's usually fine to eat, but it's a major competitor to the dairy industry so legislators don't like it.

As for vegetable/olive oils etc, I don't actually know if they class those as margarine? They usually just call them 'olive spread' or whatever in supermarkets.
>>
>>149454221
>I think margarine was originally made differently, and there was a ban on dying it yellow (since it's naturally white)
Margarine was originally made from animal fat.
These days, vegetable oil (or fat) is used just as well.
The entire point of margarine is that it is non-dairy; Napoleon needed a cheap butter substitute for his troops.

>>
>>149458480

I have, my most successful designs have just been round-ish blocks, but I'm having trouble with track tension- I think that's why it keeps clanging off, the track is either far too tight on the rollers, or too loose and the whole thing just slips off.
>>
>>149458268

>>149459972

They do- a tooth on the bottom of each track link that runs through a groove in the rollers. Those only really work if the track is at the correct tension, though- if it's too loose, the tooth just skips out of its groove and the whole thing runs off.
>>
>>149460179
pics? i cant imagine a tooth skipping with how big blocks are, u should use bearings to adjust tension
>>
>>149460179
Is the tooth on the track or chassis? I would have thought it should be on the chassis overlapping the tracks to physically stop them from popping off

>>
>>149426816
Are you retarded? A tin can traveling at 2km/s would have the energy equivalent of it's mass in TNT.
>>
>>149460576

You can tho. The simple way is to just use a separate engine for each side, wire those engines to buttons, then wire the buttons to the driver's seat.

The more robust way is to set up a bearing as a steering bearing for the driver's seat, set a bar on top of it, then sensors to turn on and off the engines based on how far the bar moves.
