I could see him as being a guild leader and not really doing a lot of actual playing but just chatting and hanging out with everyone else. Maybe doing silly stuff like roleplaying in an inn or going around and grinding pets.

Actually that reminds me of an old browser based MMO I used to play. I was part of a guild that was run by a 50ish ex-navy wife and husband and they pretty much treated everyone like their kids and would talk to you about stuff and give you real world advice if you asked them. Even if Toriel and Asgore aren't together I could see them doing the same thing to their other guild members and treating everyone like their children.

This is my reasoning:
The events of 201x and the previous humans are beyond living memory for most monsters, so it's been a while.
Undyne and Papyrus are born in years ending in 91 and 95 respectively, and they don't seem terribly old so the year probably isn't far past 211x.
Sans also mentions Toriel laughing at his joke "like it was the funniest thing she'd heard in a hundred years" which is probably almost exactly right.

I think the core was created before the monsters left for New Home, because it's the only power source we know of and the ruins still have power despite being sealed off.
