Why are hitboxes still used in 2016?
They made sense in 2D graphics, but now that all games are based on a 3D engine, proper collision detection could be used, but everyone is still using hitboxes.

Why do I see Sako seemingly favour st.mp > st.lk over target combo and DP over Raida? I can see the DP being a positioning thing as you only miss out on some stun compared to Raida but given the opportunity shouldn't you always pick target combo over the st.mp?

Just go on practice mode and do nothing but hop and hyper hop back and forward for 10 minutes, then apply it in arcade mode for a few runs to get a better feel/mix.

I did all of Story on Extra mode and I learned that I don't really understand blocking. Seems sometimes I was holding back and nothing happened. Even if I was in the corner holding back I could be hit by normal attacks. I do not understand.

there are you "heights" you can be be blocking. If you crouch and block (down back) you can block moves that hit middle and moves that hit low. If you block high (back) you can block moves that hit middle and moves that hit overhead.

If you try to block a "overhead" by crouch blocking, it will hit you

if you try to block a "low" by just holding back, it will hit you

you basically have to anticipate whether the move will hit the top of your head or your feet, and block accordingly.

Yeah that's valid, but the thing about combo breaking is that you are essentially guessing for your burst. You guess wrong you get locked out, and potentially take more damage. Even worse you get counter breakered. The attacker always has the advantage. In high level play you don't even see it that much because they are scared of the possible punish.

Yeah. I think the CPU just cheats though. I noticed that M. Bison will do particular moves and if you block them he has 100% chance of attempting a throw. Guess what? If you try to do the old counteroonie (by pressing throw at more or less the same time) it doesn't work. At all. The CPU actually won't let you counters its throws. Now that's some bullshit.

just holding back will block mids and high attacks (such as jumpins or overhead attacks), holding downback blocks mids and lows.
throws and command grabs cannot be blocked, but throws can be broken by inputting a throw at the same time as your opponent.
theres also something called a cross-up, where you jump over your opponent and hit them with a move that has a wide hitbox, and since you cross over to the other side they have to block the other way.

That's the same style he used in sf4. One of the reasons he was so consistent last year was due to most top players having no idea how to combat his Decapre. The only players that could beat him were Daigo, Nemo, Bonchan, Sako, and Momochi. Unlucky for him, those players were winning tournaments. They prevented him from winning a single premier.


When I see Infil in sfv, I see the same thing. The difference is that the players who have beaten him in SFV (daigo, tokido, momochi, fuudo, xiaohai) aren't meeting him in tournament enough because they have a tougher time against the rest of the top players.

Yes lp elbow is -2 so its safe but its the end of laura's turn. If she uses her fastest move which is 3f she first has to wait for 2 frames cause thats how negative she was THEN the move comes out. So you can think of it as the st.lp having a 5f start up there. The opponent can press any button that is faster than 5f or is 5f but a stronger move. If a opponent uses a 5f mp it will beat her clean.

If you're laura you have to understand that nothing you do then is real and that its only based on if your opponent knows that your turn is over
