I think the tsundere role was already covered quite well in the Rance series plus more than a few people probably weren't happy with the whole thing with Souun and how she was taken and how if she ends up with Rance it means she ditches Souun.

She wasn't that unpopular. Sure girls who are new and get a lot of story attention go to the top but apart from Sen the people she lost to were in the same category.

That said I don't think there is anything they could have done with her if she were still around.

It's hard to make a big judgement call without knowing the number of people who voted for what.

The shitty English comes from a few places. I'm the guy who was originally working on SR (I've never touched the lore) and my (native) English is shit, furthermore the guy who was proofreading for me fucked up his English a few times. The other people working on the wiki also seem to just have shit English. It seems to correlate negatively with increased Rance knowledge.

Damn, I thought that I cleaned up Question2006's Tips article. But yeah, in terms of pure points, you should probably do Ran before the others and then repeat it later on 5 Star (and then repeat it again with even more bonuses), but by any other measure, the route is fucking shit. Really though, as long as you do your second game on a higher difficulty than your first, you should be fine.

Sorry, but if I'm not happy that I can give a good recommendation for 5 points, I doubt I'll be able to do it for 10. On bonusless runs, I usually get the Fan before turn 60, so maybe that's a sign that you should get the Permits, I don't know.

For me, VII was the most logical point. It's so fun, it absorbs you into enjoying the story very much, the characters, plot, adventure.
If you start with anything else, the gameplay will piss you off before you start enjoying the story.

While 01 is built for introducing everyone to the Rance World, one should note that VI was also another jumping on point for the series. It was the first serious Rance game after KR and featured the "main cast" in another big adventure.

5D was more of a test run to see if they can recapture that Rance spirit. Doing VI (with 5D included as a bonus) is really the best in the long-run due to the fact it's really old and the longer you wait, the harder it will take to get people to buy it. It's older than Cartagra which was the oldest VN released by MangaGamer in a while.

So, first thing's first, the NP, gold and items can probably be ruled out straight away. Even if you took 2 Gold Statues, I'd reckon that the speed boost from either the Permits or the additional characters would top them in the long term at worst, and almost instantly at best.

This leaves only the Permits or an extra character. Lets compare the characters. Firstly, we can probably dismiss the Miko and the Musket - compared to the others, they just suck. Morita Ai could probably stay if you could also have her with Permits, but in this case you can't, so unless you really care about the Ouka Toki's level (and why would you? You're not in KTM and Makutsudou's Convert Action will probably serve you better regardless), both the Warriors can go - Turban has better utility stats than they do and the Monk who's name is too long (Makutsudou something) is better at being a Warrior unit than they are. As for Natsumi Papa - Merchant is nice, but he's only got two actions - fuck no. Turban's a little tougher, you'd only be desperate for an extra Footsoldier if you're going into 5 Star, but if you were going into 5 Star, you'd take Kurosaki Ichiya (nobody's gonna debate that, right?), so Turban's ruled out unless you really care about his utility stats for some reason (and even if you do, the other units we've yet to eliminate would all get you through the game faster than he would, letting you get more SAT for an Amazing Old Man, who's better than he is and has Merchant, such a decision might even not cost you any Fans, since the other bonus characters might save you one more than Turban).

So, this leaves Elina, Kurosaki and Makutsudou. Elina and Makutsudou are probably better for low difficulties than Kurosaki is, so I suppose that he's ruled out since if you were going to do a 5 Star run on 5 points, you'd probably have the balls to do it on 0.

So... Elina vs Makutsudou vs Permits. Makutsudou beats Elina both in dungeon use and utility stats (not that either of those really matter) and he's a deadly unit in army battles, but since we're on low difficulties, Elina is also insanely fucking destructive.

Hmm, lets keep it simple - Makutsudou is never gonna kill more than 3 guys in one fight, and Dousan will quickly fill in his Convert Action role, while Elina can kill the entire enemy force in one move and dodge some annoyances like Footsoldiers. All-Guard Shiki is also a very nice touch...

Yeah, Elina beats Makutsudou in low difficulties, particularly if you're low on bonuses and have no reason to care for the nice properties of Monks (like their healing between turns).

So, Elina vs Permits. I think it's gonna be Elina. I've got no idea how quickly you can get your Permits up and running (among other things, it depends on play style), but I can be pretty damn certain that Elina will save you more time that they will. The Permits are mostly irrelevant until you're passed Uesugi (particularly if you've only got 2 Fans) and by then you're probably somewhere around turn 40, meaning that you'd be due to get them fairly soon anyway, while Elina is gonna be relevant from start to fucking finish. I wouldn't be surprised if she sees every castle battle from Hara to the Demon Army.

Thoughts /haniho/? I know that you agree with my conclusion, but how's my reasoning? I'm a little low on sleep right now, so I could've fucked up.
