>>
Pasted from the other one :
You people are all saying Kumo is a bitch, but I personally hate Hugo (or Yuugo) even more.
I can't stand these "all your world are belong to me" kind of shitty antagonist.
Why they bother keeping that fuckface alive is a wonder, I personally would've buried that shit alive instead of allowing it to live and develop an unhleathy fetish for underaged elves.

And the Church's hypocrisy isn't that bad either.

Right after Hugo went scott-free after trying to murder everyone.
I hate that guy.

Can you tell me what events happened before that? Also keep reading - it's not as clean-cut as it looks.
>>
>>148997948
It's Hugo on Blastron's translation.Turb0 names that über faggot Yuugo. I don't know which is more correct.

Also, what happened is that Yhugo became jealous of Prince what's-his-face, cornered him in the woods, tried to kill him out of jealousy and delusion that the new world belonged to him, get massively fucking rekt Fist Of The North Star-style by the creepy pedophile teacher, and is now whining and baaawing in his room like the bitch he is.

I think I still hate Ramsay Bolton more than him, but by a small margin.

To be fair, I never heard of any game with a decent AI. Even in grand strategy games, sometimes you get attacked out of nowhere by factions that supposely like you.

The problem with diplomacy is that the AI is unpredictable. Just like the humans. I played a lot of strategy games with my brother and I've been betrayed more than I cared to count. So beyond fifty times.

That wouldn't work for Civ5.

But as a RPG, Kumo's setting is really interesting. I like how she's excited like a gamer each time she get something new.

I'd say my favorite is the Rome one as Rome; probably because of the emphasis on combat.

UA: Dynastic Cycles - Eureka and Inspiration boosts increased.
Leader Bonus: All Builders receive an additional charge, and can be expended to hurry the growth of Ancient/Classical Wonders.
UU: Crouching Tiger Cannon - Short-range cannon unit that does not require Strategic Resources to produce.
UI: Great Wall - Provides a defense and Gold bonus, adding Culture and Tourism in later eras.

how much is it increased by? they showed the bonus reaching half the tech. does that mean that normal civ eureka bonuses are only a 1/3 or a 1/4 of the tech?
>leader bonus
well, from the video, it showed sacrificing a worker brought the gardens from 6 turns left to 2 turns. this looks nice. a good balance between finishing it instantly, or barely mattering. those several turns can mean the difference. I just hope they dont dominate with early game wonder spamming.
>ui
I dont know about this. the wall sounds and looks really cool but we're going to be dedicating a lot of tiles to districts as well as the normal improvements. it needs to give a good bit of culture and gold to be worthwhile, honestly.
>>
LET US END THIS CHARADE
>>
>>149023665
Well, they'll either use their production on workers to hurry wonders or they'll simply use production on wonders, the latter will be probably more effective. Doesn't really sound OP or anything honestly

Agree with you on that UI, with districts and shit I doubt we'll have empty tiles to put great walls on. If barbarians aren't a big problem or AI civs are not more aggressive, I doubt that will be useful at all

China simply doesn't sound good imo, I liked Japs more

It's part of the strategy of the game. You have to know what's the best place to put it to. Also it generates useful gold and later culture and tourism yields.

>>149037375
That sounds disturbingly realistic.
>>
>>149038553
It would make more sense if barbarian spawn rate differed depending on how strong your culture/economy is. But it's still tied to the vanilla system where barbs spawn in unspotted tiles or outside of proximity of your units. Feels like there's only so much emphasis on barbs early game to drain production and prevent you from building up too much, but all it really accomplishes is making most early game buildings useless.
>>
>>149039312
>It would make more sense if barbarian spawn rate differed depending on how strong your culture/economy is.

>>
>>149041229
That's what I've been talking since the beginning.
>>
>>149041136
I think thats mainly because the devs dont give a fuck about the neutral setting, since I doubt anyone actually plays with ai set to that. same with sins of a solar empire to a lesser extent.
>>
>>149041345
Why bother with Diplomacy then? Same shit with Rise of Legend, you have a shitload of diplomatic options, but 90% of the time, the only diplomacy you'll get is the AI surrendering.
>>
>>149041421
Because neutral and shit is for scenarios. Ally and Enemy with Locked Teams is the only actually relevant setting. Diplomacy is essentially nonextant in AoE2, even tributes are more of gifts to your allies to sling them.

Mostly games you'll never finish.

I'm pleased to inform you that Paradox isn't the only developper. Megadimension is really fun, and even EDF, despite needing a lot of polishing, is entertaining.

I never had the time for Neptunia to get into it, and I haven't played EDF in a long time now.
>>
>>149066970
Then Stellaris isn't for you. You need time for it.
>>
>>149067165
I mean time to learn about a bunch of characters and play through 4 games. Stellaris is just one game. Not a big series. Neptunia is a big series.
>>
>>149067316
Fortunately for you, all the Rebirth games are more or less identical in design, only a few details (such as mana regenerating when hitting the enemy in RB3) and the plot changes. The rest is the same.
It's very often criticized for that, but I'm not going in details here.

Point is, learning how to git gud at Stellaris will (probably) take you more time than learning to be gud at Neptunia.
>>
>>149067534
I don't give a shit. Neptunia has a bunch of characters and world shit to memorize and care about. I can't give a damn about that. That sounds like way more.

Yes. It's just that genocides and extremist religious space empires of crazy jellyfish people appeals to me. The different races and making your own is pretty interesting too. I was just wondering what I am in for gameplay wise since I never played a game like this. I had heard it was kinda shit and unbalanced, but I assume the workshop deals with that stuff on Steam or something sooner or later. It's still new, so patches or something maybe too. I'm very unmotivated to ever finishing things. I hardly finish most games or shows I start anyway, so this might be okay for that.

Well, it's true you can be a major dick if you want to.
I mean, you can invade people and annex them, assimilating their populations.
You can purge them, you can enslave them.
You can treat the assimilated populations as equals or have a segregation going on.
You can "liberate" planets (basically installing a governement who has the same opinions than you do).

There are many ways to be an asshole in that game.

>>
>>149070914
I just want to have the choice, dammit.
Nowadays, being an asshole in a game is either bland or penalized.

I'm thinking of Overlord, here. In retrospect, with the cutesy art style, I shouldn't have expected much, but the only choices allowed were "be nice" or "MURDER EVERYOOOOONE".
At least the second game had you picking between destruction and domination.

I want a game where I'm feared when I'm evil and respected when I'm nice. I'm fucking tired of being treated like shit if I'm nice and being hunted by guards if I fucking melted some dumb shit's face with acid.
>>
>>149071353
But anon in society you should always try to help and please others and live for everyone else instead of your own shit and expectations for yourself and be a drone that does everything to make everyone happy, and don't swear or be mean to people, they have feelings, and video games promote violent thoughts sand negative attitudes and selfishness and thats not nice!

1) Are there any essential mods, since I think I understand most aspects now, after two full sessions?

Actually, Integr really shines at combat, due to this -75% cost for buying units/buildings with DC. But that require steady supply of said DC, at best I still could only get +200 per turn.

NSA (heh) at the other hand is tempting with option of slow but steady aquatic cities invasion, yet being able to utilize it only at water.

>As far a geography goes, I still don't know what it really affects. Just roll with whatever.

What I found out so far, different biomes have differnt aliens behaviour and numbers (Fungal have them hugging that fancy named xenofungus-wannabe but rarely venturing around, while Lush have helload of alien nests and weak units that flood you in early turns, but are just major annoyance in later ones). I think that it also alters resources placement, as in Fungal I had huge amounts of that bio-something green ooze. I cant bet on that last part tho, it could be just random element.

At minimum it would cause a major diplomatic incident to move military ships across a border without permission. Remember that in the current version of the game, open borders is the default, so someone has to actually close their borders to you, saying "don't enter my fucking space."
Violating that demand could easily be seen as an act of hostility. The game doesn't model combat outside of formal warfare, so the logical thing to do is to make violating borders an act of war. Civ does the same thing.

>And many video games modeled that not being a requirements because it actually makes fucking sense
In what games can you engage in open hostilities without being in a state of war?
All I can think of is Endless Space/Legend's cold war status, and that still requires a specific state of relations.
>>
>>149098190
>so effectively yes
Jesus Christ
Just make everything attackable, use alt-rclick or some shit to signal it. Once you attack you're at war, wow so hard.

>because it's a video game
Goy 4 uses fucking arrows that give +50% bonuses just for sitting still because it's a video game and gives access to your enemy's enemies 'because it's a video game'. CK2 has badboy and shattered retreat "because it's a video game".

>simpler way to model it
Yeah it's simpler all right, but that doesn't mean it should exist when a free CB and diplo penalties both makes sense and can be easily implemented by the devs - make any passage into foreign territory add a penalty and CB to the holder unless you have a treaty.
>>
>>149098678
>moving the goal posts
We are talking about crossing a border, not firing at someone
But to answer your question: distant worlds, you can fire at any ship
>>
>>149098678
>In what games can you engage in open hostilities without being in a state of war?
>passing through EMPTY FUCKING SPACE is hostilities
If you attack someone obviously you're in a state of war. That doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to waltz in beforehand, because you CAN. Attacking someone implies you're at war, it's undeclared war and should carry a huge diplomatic penalty to everyone. Walking through someone else's land, ESPECIALLY if it's to get back to your own, should never require a fucking treaty.
>>
>>149098807
>We are talking about crossing a border, not firing at someone
No, on that particular thread of conversation we were talking about
>Attacking and invading someone

>distant worlds, you can fire at any ship
And does doing so start a war?

>>149098683
>Yeah it's simpler all right, but that doesn't mean it should exist when a free CB and diplo penalties both makes sense and can be easily implemented by the devs - make any passage into foreign territory add a penalty and CB to the holder unless you have a treaty.
Doesn't this introduce the possibility of your ships potentially pathing through enemy systems and starting wars by accident?
>>
>>149099068
>Doesn't this introduce the possibility of your ships potentially pathing through enemy systems and starting wars by accident?
Yes. That can be solved by needing to manually path them though by clicking into it, or by previewing the path the ship will take when you click.
>>
>>149099068
"Formal warfare" has nothing to do with declaration of war.
Formal warfare implied being in a state of war already. The process of declaring war is not part of it.

I don't know why you are changing the goal posts to this though. The topic is about crossing borders without being stopped by a force field.

>And does doing so start a war?
Yes, it does. You can fire warning shots without any problems, but if it's sustained it starts a war.
>>
>>149099193
>That can be solved by needing to manually path them though by clicking into it
This is tedious if you need to cross several systems to reach friendly territory.

>by previewing the path the ship will take when you click.
This might work. I think it would be better to display a prompt asking for confirmation.

>>149099438
>"Formal warfare" has nothing to do with declaration of war.
A declaration of war creates a formal state of warfare, anon.

>I don't know why you are changing the goal posts to this though.
Somebody said
>Attacking and invading someone without declaration is still formal warfare
and I pointed out that the declaration is required because it's a video game and it doesn't allow combat outside of war. In real life you sometimes have border skirmishes that don't escalate into full warfare; you can't easily model these in a video game.
No goal posts were moved, you're just too stupid to follow more than one discussion at the same time.

>The topic is about crossing borders without being stopped by a force field.
It isn't a forcefield, though. There's no physical barrier. You're using a reduction to absurdity instead of creating a good argument like >>149098683
>>
In Distant Worlds you could move through people's space, and they wouldn't like it, but you could fortify some asteroid and try to claim the territory without directly fighting. Kind of like China and artificial reefs in Nanfang Hai.

I honestly think it's because the ai can't into pathfinding and if the whole map were open, we've have nigh infinite ai fleets wandering the universe for no reason. Which does happen in DW.
>>
>>149100124
>It isn't a forcefield, though. There's no physical barrier.
I'm not him, but from what I understand he's not arguing that there's a physical barrier actually there but complaining that the game acts as if there is one in place when it's fundamentally stupid for one to be there.
>>
>>149100329
>the game acts as if there is one in place
It doesn't, though. It acts like crossing the border is an act of war.
>>
>>149100124
>A declaration of war creates a formal state of warfare, anon.
A formal state of warfare isn't the same thing as "formal warfare". Formal warfare is literally symmetrical warfare. That has shit all to do with diplomacy. Warfare is how you conduct war, not how you declare.

Crossing borders without permission has shit all to do with this.

>and I pointed out that the declaration is required
Declaration or not it's still formal warfare.

>In real life you sometimes have border skirmishes that don't escalate into full warfare; you can't easily model these in a video game.
You should tell that to whoever made DW.

>No goal posts were moved
>Discussion was literally about how stupid is to have force fields as borders
>Now nitpicking about "formal warfare" being only declared warfare

>There's no physical barrier.
Can you move a ship in the space of someone that closed the border with you?
If the answer is "no" then it is a force field.
>>
>>149100621
But it doesn't. Crossing a border isn't an act of war - it's something you do during war. It's not like crossing it illegally makes you go to war, you're physically unable to cross it unless you declare first.
>>
how do you write a biography for your empire? it doesn't look like you can do it in game as far as i can tell.

is it a mod?
>>
>>149100660
>A formal state of warfare isn't the same thing as "formal warfare". Formal warfare is literally symmetrical warfare. That has shit all to do with diplomacy. Warfare is how you conduct war, not how you declare.
I'm definitely not going to argue semantics with you. All I've been saying this entire time is that video games usually require a state of war before either party can engage in open hostilities because it's simpler to model. If you want to call yourself a winner because you're right about the dictionary definition of warfare vs. war, go ahead. I don't care.

>Can you move a ship in the space of someone that closed the border with you?
Yes, you just have to declare war first, because in the game's diplomatic model that is considered an act of war.

>>149100687
>Crossing a border isn't an act of war
It is in the game's diplomatic model.

>>149101509
It's in the species tab.
>>
>>149097293
But russia never violates other nations sovereignty. USA too never did that.
>>
>>149101821
>It is in the game's diplomatic model.
No it isn't. If it were, crossing a border would automatically declare war.
>>
God damn the warscore in Stellaris is retarded.
>>
>>149101821
>All I've been saying this entire time
And all we have been saying and the whole topic of this conversation is that it's retarded to have borders acting like forcefields because crossing a border shouldn't behave like that.
It should LEAD to that but it shouldn't stop you from crossing, especially in fucking space of all places.

>in the game's diplomatic model that is considered an act of war.
That's a shit system. That's the whole point. You literally can't stop someone from crossing an imaginary border in space. No one would realize it was crossed anyway, especially because you can barely make a border in space.
>>
>>149102089
>kill 90% of one of their fleets
>they emegency ftl
>meanwhile they killed 2 mining stations and are now ahead in warscore
>>
>>149102184
>You literally can't stop someone from crossing an imaginary border in space.
No, you can't, and the game doesn't pretend otherwise. It just treats the crossing as an act of war. You're ignoring that the barrier is political and not physical because calling it a physical barrier is more absurd.
>>
>>149102438
If it treated as such, it would happen what >>149101929 said.
>>
>>149102438
Let me ask you something
Is it physically possible to cross a closed border within the game? No? Then it treats it like there is an actual, physical, barrier.
You're still arguing the wrong thing - the entire idea of border crossing necessitating war is fundamentally absurd which is the original complaint.
>>
>>149102513
How do you cross a closed border without declaring war, anon?
>>
>>149102721
You fly across it, the other side gets pissed, he tells you to fuck off or there will be hostilities.
>>
>>149101509
Very first screen.
>>
>>149102721
You cross it
What, you think not being in a state of war will stop anyone from crossing it?
>>
>>149102716
>Is it physically possible to cross a closed border within the game?
Yes, it is. You just have to declare war first.
There is no physical barrier, just a political one.

>the entire idea of border crossing necessitating war is fundamentally absurd which is the original complaint.
I disagree. I think it's a simple but reasonable mechanic here just like it is in Civ, especially since borders are open by default and therefore an empire has to tell you, specifically, that you aren't allowed to enter their space before you're barred from entering. You can rationalize it as the "close borders" option being backed by a threat of war just like a guarantee of independence is.

Whether the idea of "borders" make any sense in space is more worth arguing about.

>>149102826
>>149103053
>It is in the game's diplomatic model.
>the game's diplomatic model.
>>
>another party invaded the Elro Labyrinth
>they burned Kumo's house
Well, fuck. Here it starts, the genocide.
>>
>>149103208
The game diplomatic model acts like borders are force fields.
>>
>>149103334
No, it just acts like crossing borders when told not to is an act of war.
>>
>>149103208
>You just have to declare war first
Ahistorical and nonsensical.

Guarentees must be manually upheld, they are not automatic. That is why it makes sense. A diplomatic penalty is more than enough as you're essentially giving the finger to their sovereignty.

>>149103208
A true diplomatic model not stop physical actions, it reacts to them. If you cannot fly across then it is not part of the diplomatic model, the diplomatic model should reward, punish, or react to your choices. Even an automatic declaration would qualify it.
>>
>>149103459
But it literally fucking doesn't. It acts as if crossing closed borders is an action only [physically] possible during war, not that crossing closed borders is tantamount to a declaration of war or an act that would justify a defensive war with or without a formal declaration.
>>
>>149103254
To be honest, humans are really retarded in that story.
>"oh boy, a giant deadly spider who help people!"
>"let's tame it instead of leaving it alone!"
>"what can possibly go wrong?"
>>
>>149103459
No, if it did that, it would do >>149101929 said. If it stops you until you declare war then it acts like borders are force fields.
>>
>>149103673
That's humans in our world too though.
>let's use the fundamental laws of nature to create a weapon capable of replicating a piece of the sun!
>>
>>149103763
>Fuck yeah science!
>We dominated everything on your planet, but we need more stuff to kill us!
>let's become our own nemesis!
>>
>>149103908
Humans have always been their own nemesis, disease and nature (as in environment, not animals) aside.
>>
>>149103763
The translation is shitty as fuck, but this line here is so bad it's awesome.
> The incarnation of nightmare has transferred here.

>>149103982
Humans used to get rekt by the environnement and predators. Once they murdered or tamed the predators, they start killing each others.
Sometimes I think people just want to fight and the fact that Earth doesn't have any challenge left makes us all insane.
>>
>>149103504
>Ahistorical
The game is set in the future and there are no historical precedents for interstellar borders.
More importantly, it's a video game. Video games sometimes trade realism for simplicity.

>Guarentees must be manually upheld, they are not automatic.
What difference does it make? They've said "you'd better not enter our space unless you want to go to war." You enter their space, you're at war.

>>149103634
>>149103673
This is autism.
There's no functional difference between declaring war and then attacking, and attacking and declaring war at the same time.

This argument has gotten too autistic for me. You're welcome to declare yourselves winners.
>>
>>149103673
Thats not even half of it.
Hey the village worships this spider as a messenger of God, the spider is doing nothing but eat, sleep and heal people. LETS KILL IT

Hey i am going to brainwash this goblin who is able to create weapons from nothing so i have a personal blacksmith AND THEN MAKE HIM EAT HIS LITTLE SISTERS FOR GIGGLES!

WHAT COULD GO WRONG?
>>
>>149104262
Your argument boils down to "it's a videogame os they can control millions of light-years of space like it had a physical barrier"
>>
>>149104294
Haven't reached that part yet. Here, the humans are still pissing themselves in fear after burning down Kumo's nest.

Poor fuckers are in for a world of pain and terror.
>>
How do I play without slavery in Stellaris?
>>
>>149104262
>What difference does it make?
The difference is that nations often turn their backs on guarantees that no longer align with their interests, just as closed borders may be given a pass when they don't align with their interest - for example, a superpower wanting to pass through a single system owned by a much smaller empire.

>no historical precedents
Which is why it is physically impossible to move in without first formally declaring war correct?

>trade realism for simplicity
Here it simply trades realism for foolishness and tedium where your can get stuck behind foreign borders that just barely grew bigger.

>this is autism
No it isn't, you're the autistic one here for aruging against a system people agree is flawed. Next you'll say CK2's badboy and coalition bullshit is good and shattered retreat makes sense.

Just a heads up, Vikings get Wheelbarrow for free so you can usually go up to 28-30 villagers before Castling, and the Chinese have three extra villagers to start off, while the Huns don't build houses. Those are the main three that act very differently from others early game, I don't have African KANGZ though.

There's discussion of this now:
So vanilla civ comes with 18 civs, are Aztecs included in this number or with Aztecs it will be 19? There's this Deluxe Edition thing that comes with 4 DLCs, but the video says Aztecs is a pre order DLC, right? It can't be one of the 4 paid DLCs of Deluxe Edition

Harmony-Purity has the best waifus
>>
>>149160451
>franks
Fast castle to a chain barding knight rush.
Your heavy cavalry is the best in the game, fully upgraded Frankish Paladins can take 5 hits from a halberdier instead of 4 which is huge.
Your farms get free upgrades which is a small boost to your food economy.
Frankish castles are cheaper, you can use this to forward settle a castle when you pull off the knight rush - for the rush you only need two or three, you don't need to actually do massive damage just get in, kill three or four villagers, get out. Put up the castle near their secondary gold source a bit away from their town.
Also, make sure to create monks, at least three or four. Grab relics as fast as you can, Franks need the gold badly. In Imperial Age an army of Paladins, trebuchets, Hand Cannoneers and Champions is the way to go along with the usual trash unit mix.

Throwing axemen do melee damage from range, making them good for eating trebs and rams as well as huscarls but not much else. Mixing a few into your second wave can do a good job since most units have a slightly higher pierce armor than melee armor.

Don't be shy about dropping castles on gold to pre-emptively secure it, your castles are a full 160 stone cheaper than anyone else's which is huge.

As for the English, they're one of the stronger civilizations and one of the easiest to play so yeah.
Goths absolutely wreck them though, although Goths wreck everyone if you let them get an Imperial economy going.
>>

Whoops, meant to say Harmony-Supremacy. They have best waifus.

>Fast castle to a chain barding knight rush.
?????

Also, yeah, I get the idea. Rush castle and build them aggressively.
>Throwing axemen do melee damage from range
Haa, okay. I though they were anti-archers units, like the skirmishers, but with shittier range.

I tend to use the English anyway because I always had trouble using cavalry (I dunno why, I always thought of them as fragile) while archers are awesome.

Never played with Goths.

>Fast castle to a chain barding knight rush.
Fast Castling means delaying Feudal until you have 28 or so villagers, aging up slower, but by the time you get to feudal you're almost ready to castle because of your economy.
Chain Barding is the second armor technology for cavalry. Your attack is already bullshit high, you don't need either of the attack techs, but 2+2/2+2 armor is insane for the Feudal age which hopefully your opponent is still in or just got out of.
Cavalry isn't so much 'fragile' as bad for cost, they're extremely expensive so you don't usually have that many of them.

>archers are awesome
Use the Chinese.
Goths are unitspam the faction, and their UU is an infantry unit that counters anti-infantry units like archers and AP siege. They can create huscarls, their UU, at barracks, and those barracks work at something like 3.2 times the normal rate due to their unique technology (Perfusion) and consciption plus their alliance-wide bonus of barracks working 20% faster. Their infantry is also 65% the normal cost.
Imperial Goths can send stacks of 100 halberdiers in literally 30 seconds.

I didn't meant it in AoE2 only.
No matter the game, I don't know why exactly, but I always had the impression that the calvalry is squishy and unsuited for combat.

>>
>>149163283
It's not so much delaying the ages to stockpiles resources as delaying the age up to stockpile villagers. While you're aging, you cannot create villagers.

>squishy and unsuited for combat
Historical. Most cavalry is shit in prolonged combat, they use their charge and equipment to do most of the damage. The ones who are meant to hold the line have always been infantry.

>>
>>149163508
Oh, I see.

And I see too.
I must have used horsemen as frontline infantry, lost them to spearmen, and that marked me as a kid. That's probably why I think of calvalry as a squishy unit.

>>149163461
Have fun, axe thrower.
>>
>>149163704
Another reason you might think cav is squishy in AoE 2 is that they have a huge hitbox, which functionally means archers will never miss them with ballistics and hand cannoneers will land like twice as many shots on them. It also means that a good 4-5 units can engage them from the front instead of the 2-3 that can engage an infantry unit from the front.

Check this out.

Two things I notice:
A) Eagle Warrior gets a bonus against anti-cavalry units like Spearmen.
B) More importantly, it seems like combat bonuses are simple additions to combat strength, not percent bonuses. That would mean that some bonuses become less useful as the base combat of units goes up with eras. OR maybe it IS a percentage and we simply see the resulting combat strength addition.

The Scourge ate almost all of the territories in the territory in the red circle. It took a while for me to get to them because the bastard marked with the purple dot didn't let me through his borders after I declared war on his ally, went through his territory and vassalized them.

All because there is no hyperlane between the stars in the green circle. Fuck.

The worst part was that the AI was utterly unprepared and completely unfazed by the fact that the scourge was shitting out 50k power fleets on the regular. I think I saw a 107k fleet too. I got absolutely destroyed after my first main fleet died. Then I built lances and more lances, and more lances, and more lances.

>>

tachyon lance? huh. I could have gotten that tech early game but ignored it.

I went full kinetic - kinetic artillery range is so ridiculous you put 60k power in battleships in the middle of a system and you can hold off the entire swarm without getting a single hit. Which I did, as I wanted to reclaim the unbidden lands first which meant holding off 2 40k armies constantly while secondary fleets destroyed the minefields and diminished their borders.

problem is, they just don't stop respawning, couldn't find a way to get close enough to the portal. lot the entire navy and had to reload and resort to hit & run tactics. Until I could suicide rush the portal in the 10 second timespan the reinforcements took to appear.

Low tech armies are fun.
>>
>>149184723
it would be banned in germany, which is exactly why basically no game worth its salt will ever do that. they're so anally anguished, still, that they instantly ban anything with hitler or even nazi bits in it, which is why most games have gone over to using the iron cross instead of the swastika.

Hitler can't be in Civ because Germany prohibits featuring him in media intended for children, and video games are still classified as toys in German law.

This limitation has long since been removed in the cases of film and literature, but no-one cares enough about video games to go through the legal struggle of getting it overturned for vidya.
>>
>>149185334
I only went with the lances because of the Scourge, they only have armor and no shields. Plus, all enemies between me and them was like Finland being Sweden's wall against Russia. My economy was so big I could almost spam out battleships.

I've never fought the Unbidden, I hope to do so though, they seem like a lot of fun.

I'm not an American, but I'd vote Trump just for meme magic. Both of them seem kind of incompetent but Hillary is more insufferable and doesn't have any sort of plan given and her goal seems to simply become the first female POTUS, she will then sit on her ass doing nothing. Trump seems to have some sort of actual dream, meaning he will be more interesting to watch.

>le Satan

>>149190540
except its literally not the same because ads are a highlight real of movies/whatever else, while civ is a more general 'fun' game the entire time. >liking the ads is shilling
No. Liking the ads means that the admakers did a very good job. It also means that outside of outright lying, you can glimpse the features that are confirmed and judge based on that.
Shilling means being paid by the company to advertise.

>>149191349

Sure they make public embarrassments but the empire has been about as bad as it has been since forever ago. >>149196235
Obama wanted to believe he could make an ally of an islamic nation free of American intervention.

The fact is America has been fucking around in other nations affairs for so long that the well will be poisoned for a good long while.

It's like how we drone strike targets with immense collateral damage then wonder why more terrorists pop out of the woodwork shouting "death to America". It's an unwinnable situation, we're damned if we keep trying to take out targets, damned for several generations at least if we just stop and try to go full isolationist to try and let things die down.

It's not that we can't stick our hands in international affairs, but to interfere in fucking domestic affairs and ruin everything isn't really justifiable.

Maybe.
Optimistically, this election kills the Republican party, the more moderate elements break off and form their own party, then the more moderate parts of the democratic party leave for this party.

as for age advancing, a lot depends on the locations of resources. if you start with 6 sheep/boar/bushes really close, you'll advance a lot faster than someone who has to scout a shitload more to find his 6 sheep and the like.

Let me tell you about a warscore-related fuckup in Stellaris.

There's empire A, B, and C near me.

Empire B is a vassal of A. I have a retarded amount of border friction malus with A because that's how """diplomacy""" works in this game.

I declare war on A. Empire B, being a loyal vassal of A, declares war on me. That's all expected.

Here's where things start to get weird.

Empire C declares war on B out of nowhere. C's war demands must've been to liberate/confiscate planets owned by B, because that war ends quickly while I'm still fighting A. Empire B disappears, replaced by... let's say B1.

I notice that my warscore tanks from 90 to 50. Okay, that's weird.

As soon as I'm finished assaulting a planet owned by A and my fleet stops blockading said planet, my warscore drops to 40. I suspect that something has gone awry, but A has no fleets left that I can see. All of my border systems are untouched.

I finish assaulting a second planet. Warscore dips to thirty-something.

Now, I'm looking at B1 and thinking: Maybe since some of my wargoals included systems belonging to B, and since B doesn't exist, the warscore system has no idea how to reconcile that.

So I declare war on B1.

My warscore jumps up to 100.

The AI sets a strategy every time it plays. The first time he was probably going for a fast feudal boom. The second time he was probably going for fast castle.

Britons get a non-trivial bonus to their early game because of the sheep boost, sheep are the fastest gathered source of food in the game and Britons gather it more quickly.

>It should be on, the skirmisher's bonus only applies to archers.

CKN spam is best countered by onagers and huskarls or a combination of skirms and longbows for the English. Skirmishers don't even need to get a shot off, just soak up damage. The only problem with the AI sometimes is that it doesn't know how to play to its strengths. The Goths should be using basically no cavalry, they've no use for them except hunting down monks and raiding villagers.
iirc 30 fully upgraded huscarls with Arson can take down a castle without a single loss.

The more I play Age of Empires 2, the more respect I lose toward video games journalists.

I remember a review of Supreme Commander, where they explained that economy was still a major part of the game and required a lot of attention.
Compared to Age of Empires "60% of your population are peasants" 2, this is just WRONG.
>>
>>149254940
AoE 2 is a literal masterpiece. Among strategy games there's like 5 or 6 that can be put on its tier.
>60% of your population
Yeah just about. 200 population matches usually end up with 125 villagers / trade and 75 military units. Anyone with fewer villagers is going to get stomped flat.

Play as Spanish, they're fucking hilarious.
Their unique tech (Supremacy) gives your villagers +40 hitpoints, +6 attack, and +3/+3 armor. You end up with 80 HP, 9 Atk, 4/5 armor behemoths farming the land and chopping down trees. They literally have the same armor and HP as Champions.
>tfw playing as the superior race
>>
>>149255234
I understand the depth of AoE2, but I still prefer Supreme Commander.

Age of Empires 2 and Starcraft are a bit similar : it's about economy and production coupled with a paper-scissor-stone system. Harassing and attacking the workers is mandatory to gain an advantage, and the game is basically a race to ressources.

I personally prefer Supreme Commander, it's less staining, mentally speaking, and it focuses more on the fighting than the economy. I can easily play against a Hard AI at SupCom but any AoE2 game leaves me tired.

>I can easily play against a Hard AI at SupCom but any AoE2 game leaves me tired.

No seriously, SupCom is pretty easy
>>
>>149255519
Because it doesn't have a complicated economy like AoE2.
Infinite ressources?
No need for peasants?
Automated buildings?
Buildings can upgrade by themselves?

The economic part of SupCom makes it much more pleasant to play.
>>
>>149255692
Eh I don't know about that. SupCom isn't even really an RTS so much as RTT.
>>
>>149255796
Dunno. Trying to destroy the enemies mines while building artilleries kinda strikes me as strategy rather than tactic.

But for the sake of objectivity, I can't really condone SupCom's AI. Even if Forged Alliance greatly improved it, it's still pretty dumb. Destroy a few of its buildings, and it cannot effectively rebuild.
>>
>>149255954
RTT is shit like Wargame where there's essentially no home front, at most something that resembles more of a forward camp and usually focuses on the actual fighting that the buildup or home economy.

Can it really be called strategy if your victory is determinated by your ability to mine ressources instead of your ability to lead troops or research the good upgrades?
>>
>>149257284
...yes? Leading troops into battle is tactics. Strategy a lot wider, it includes supplying your troops, planning the long-term battle, raiding enemy supplies, weakening the enemy before the fight, delaying reinforcements, deciding on a direction to expand in, securing strategic locations and resources, etc.
Tactics is small-scale concerned with winning a battle. Strategy is large-scale concerned with winning a war and making the most of every battle and every choice. Something that doesn't include economy, raiding, and other things that aren't battles and research isn't strategy, it's tactics.

>instead of
It's more of being in combination with.

I'm not saying RTT is bad, but it's not the same genre as RTS and I personally like RTS a lot better.
>>
>>149257505
But you can raid in every game that has ressources but not workers.
Even in Company of Heroes, you can cut the supply lines and harass the enemies.

The only games where you can't do that are the games where there is no ressource at all. Like Ground Control.
>>
>>149257616
But that's not the centerpiece of the game. The centerpiece is the battles, not the long-term planning.
Essentially Supreme Commander always felt to me like it was a single battle that I had to win, something that would secure the ground I'm fighting in for my side. AoE and its kin felt like I was fighting on a much bigger scale, if not a war that included the whole nation then at least some sort of colonial war between two new settlements.
>>
>>149257812
If it's feelings, it can't be helped, but it's also wrong.
SupCom also has ages like AoE2, but the thing that confuses you and can't "suspend your disbelief" or whatever the adequate term is, is that each factory/command unit upgrades alone.

If it was a global upgrade that would update all your engineers and factories at once, you would feel differently.

>always felt to me like it was a single battle that I had to win
Well, it kinda is. Only the ACUs are manned, everything else is entirely automated. A Supreme Commander skirmish is literally a duel between two commanders instead of being a global war like in AoE2.
>>
>>149254940
>>149255692
The economy of SupCom is about balacing your resource gain and expenses, if you are producing twice the ammount you expend, those resources are lost. And you also have to take into account building placement due to bonus production from resource plants.
Is different from AoE but is still a major part of the game
>No need for peasants?

Somehow, BERT dont have this problem, for some reason, turns take only few seconds.

Why don't you head back over to reddit.

>Stellaris is a good game
There's nothing to do, combat is literally tachyon lances, balance is fucked, pops are literally nothing, etc.

>wew lad maymay
Wew laddiodoo

>edgy
Edgy doesn't mean 'doesn't like something I like'.

Didnt check, just was wondering, if this could be the case.

I have i5-750, by the way.

>>149264018

Tired that before, still taking few minutes on larger maps.

You can try to lower the number of enemies AI...
That's a lame way, but it'll work.
>>
>>149264661
You'll have to try one of the AI mods I guess

Go for it I'll get the next thread ready
Should I make this also partly RTS general and call it Stellaris, 4x, and rts General?
>>
>>149267154
Distant World is like Stellaris for people who like RP. It's deeper and you spend less time on diplomacy and more on managing your empire.

If you combine that many generals it will be a clusterfuck mate, pretty much no one will understand what others are talking about
>>
>>149268086
Yeah but even after we started talking about rts we got only 30 posts in the 9 hours I was asleep. We ded.
>>
>>149268220
That's because Age of Empires 2 suck cocks. Now Age of Empires 3, THAT'S a real game.
>>
>>149268220
Yeah but it was just a few people talking about rts, if you write rts in the OP actual rtsfags, wgfags, etc will also come to thread. Just because we're not really active know we shouldn't just combine with other generals, it's fine as long as someone bumps the thread until Civ VI or Stellaris DLC imo

I mean, this reminds me of /mgg/'s talks of uniting with /bsg/ because both were dead, it doesn't make any sense
