Rom is actually fairly easy to grind, provided you already have good gems. With two cold abyssals and a bolt waning in my Saif, I can oneshot the little spiders and take out Rom herself in only a handful of stamina bars. Plus, it's way easier to grind Old HMPH and Abhorrent Beast than it is Rom, so getting to that point makes for an easy ride to nourishing abyssals.

What's considered the "best" curse to have? Are they additive?

The best curse is probably increase stamina cost, since it doesn't get any higher than three percent or so. After that is attack versus beast/kin down, because those don't have any impact on PvP and as long as you have only one of those curse types on your weapons, you can switch freely between them as the situation demands.

The other three curses make the gem largely obsolete though, those ones being attack down, HP depletes and durability down. You wouldn't think the last one is so bad, but it gets to the point where your weapon breaks in like five minutes of hitting things and that's just awful.

As for the point in getting top tier gems, it's nice to have for deep chalices and NG+ cycles, and it helps a ton for PvP. Other than that though, there really isn't a reason to bother getting them instead of settling on the 20% story gems.

Go back to the Chapel (where the dude who asked you to bring people is) and go right, the door that was previously locked should be open now.
Explore the area with a huge fall carefully, there is a hidden area there.
Once you are done with that area a guy with a sack should show up, let him kill you.
After all of that, go to the area before the hugeass room where you fought Amelia and either go left or right (I can't remember) till you get to a door where some cunt is asking you for a password that will lead you the next important area.
Everything before the meeting the password dude is optional but I suggest you do it before going any further.

I get how important he was in the past, and that he's the MP's current surrogate child, and also that he vaguely guides hunters in the dream, but beyond that I don't understand why he's considered so important during the timeline of the good hunter.

On a personal level, it's kind of a big deal because he is the one who has been by your side, offering you guidance since the beginning and now he is your enemy, Also, because you are about to fight with the most badass old man in all of Yharnam and its alternative dimensions.

No worries, the guide is built around getting to FRC Isz in no time at all with Lower Loran/Ihyll following. There's the imgur which explains which layer each mat you need is located, or there's the videos which go one further and show where everything physically is. Comes in handy in the later dungeons when red jelly and bastards become a thing

In the chalice glyph sheet, it says there is an obtainable Blood Stone Chunk in Lower Hintertomb Root Chalice that cannot be farmed (similar to Bloodrocks in chests). How many Chunks is it? and is there also another one in Lower Pthumuru which is also a depth 3 chalice?

Im asking because im thinking of doing a dumb playthrough/guide on exactly how overpowered you can be before killing Vicar Amelia.

You can get 19% Cursed Gems from Central Pthumuru lever guardian watchers, probably even higher if you get them to drop a Blunt or Thrust gem, and depending on what causes the gems to be cursed (I have no fucking clue) then if you could get a ~22% gem for your gun if you could get a gun Watcher instead. Im still figuring out the best gems you can get from Lower Hintertomb, there's no list of possible bosses anywhere from what I can tell so its hard to know what you can get.

If even 3 Chunks were avalible before Amelia it would add another level of autism to an already autistic project.

Hey guys question, decided to try a pure arcane build and I'm really enjoying it so far, I'm at 63 Arc, with a church pick and fire gems at 430 I'm currently at Loran Chalice, but I feel like my AR is low, could there possibly be a better weapon choice for arcane scaling or gems etc?

Most people usually go Fire Saw Spear, but Church Pick should be good for Loran as well since its serrated (somehow...?).

What arc scaling does it have? And what gems have you got on it? At this point you should ideally have 2 Cursed Fire Radials from flaming-weapon guys in Lower Pthumuru and whatever the best Fire Waning you get from Loran is. That's assuming you have the version of the Church Pick with a Waning gem.

I'm pretty sure you can get 16.5% Fire Radials from the skinny dudes with flaming swords/Halbards in Lower Pthumuru, you will get a shitload of fire wanings from Loran Chalice.

I'm not sure if Radial, Waning, Triangle or Radial, Radial, Waning is better for Fire Weapons, I think the former might be better but you'll struggle to find gems for that until you do Isz.

I'm guessing two Cold Abysmal's and the best Fire % Gem would be the ideal setup. But I don't know where best fire gems come from. Isz Watchers maybe? Which would mean Radial, Radial, Triangle is the best setup.

Boomhammer is surprisingly good for pvp. You could try the Hunter Axe and Whirligig Saw aswell. Saw Cleaver with Heavy Abyssals if you want a quicker weapon.

Watchers have 27% fire or bolt stats as drops but they don't appear as often as phys % up.

Don't worry about imprints, go farm the gems you want and you might get a really nice oos gem, I found it easier to farm first, then match up whatever gems with whatever imprints I needed.

But in boss fights you often don't have the chance to effectively use rally, since combat is such an ebb and flow, and they'll take off such a chunk of your HP at a time that it's too risky, at least for me.

The whole concept of limited healing ties into the game's combat. It wants you to be aggressive, it wants you to get back there and attack and regain health. This isn't a Souls game, this isn't about patience and strategy and conservation, there's no block and no turtling, it's about quick thinking, quick responses staying on top. You can only do that by attacking and regaining health and not pussyfooting around a boss.

Like have you never died to a boss? I last until I get a chance to use all my vials, usually getting the boss down to at most 1/3rd of their health left, and then shit happens. It's not an easy game. But from the nearest lamp to the Nightmare Fog, little to no vials drop. So now I'm in a position where I have to farm.

This has only been an issue for Vicar Amelia for me so far anyway, as the others I've been able to beat in 1-2 tries.

The "solution" to farming isn't "don't use your items". That's absurd. This was a poorly thought out aspect of an otherwise fantastic game.

No, I get that. But you can't live off rally alone in early game against a boss in normal-level play. If a boss hits you at the start of a combo, you either need to start dodging or getting distance. Often, by the time you have an opening, you can't use rally anymore. You need to use your openings to either attack and get a small portion of the remaining rally back, or none, or heal so you can survive another hit.

Did none of you ever run out of vials on your first playthrough? Were you able to parry every attack of every enemy every time? Nobody here ever had to farm vials?

No, you can't live off rally alone, and you need to use vials. They're there to be used. I've run out of vials plenty of times before. I like being more in control of my healing items than Estus because if you don't find shards you can get stuck with low heals. With blood vials I can go out and max it all out when and how I please, by drops of buying. It isn't automatically bad.

Look, you're still learning the game. Amelia is early game. You're still learning the mechanics and flow of combat, you will actually get better, you will be able to judge when to use rally, when and where to dodge. Go into Central Yharnam and just practice a bit if you're having trouble. Forget about blood echoes and just fight some enemies until you feel more comfortable. Don't blame the game for the fact you're still new to it.

Bosses have weaknesses, too. Amelia is a Beast, so use the fire paper you got from Alfred (he's in the Cathedral Ward past where the lever is to open the door to Old Yharnam) and use a Saw weapon (find the Saw Badge in the sewers after the giant pig). Fire and serrated damage will help you massively.

And once again, I think this game is fantastic on all levels. Visual and sound design, combat and gameplay, story, I love everything, and most things are much better than in Dark Souls. I just have this one issue with the game and think it could have been done better.
