I finished the cannon, but i decided to change the color of the icons from the generic blue and green to orange blue contrast, because autism. So i wont upload it until tomorrow/later today after i sleep and finish changing the icons of the previous weapons.

Also i had this cool idea in my head about slapping an Advent Laptop thingy to the scope attachment, unfortunately after i finished the model and texture and everything, it occurred to me that the keyboard on the laptop is ridiculously small(oops), at least it should be pretty rare to get to see the keyboard, but we can also pretend that there's advent midgets in charge of their computers. Or maybe in the future laptops will have keyboards as small and annoying as phones.

Got overrun by lids and baby lids, but i also got fucked over by taking a hit in the second mission which made me miss the first ufo. I'm loading up to go engage the Star Gods in glorious combat. I'll be fighting them on a terror mission, so its going to be a full engagement with sectopods (145 front armor) and a full complement of ethereals using psi shenanigans. I intend to fight until victory is no longer achievable.

I've fought some skirmishes with the star gods, even tried my hand at a full battle but I wasn't prepared for a slugging match.

This time I'm packing a full 26 man crew with high psi power stats. They all are wearing armor that boosts psi power and has a 60% resistance to plasma weapons (on top of bonus stamina and time units, very good armor, would reccomend [Novice]).
My crew is packing a mix of Heavy explosives, Heavy and sniper gauss, Satchel charges, alien grenades, Panzerfausts, Telsa Coils, and Super Shotguns.

They haven't released anything to even give a hint, I have no idea what to expect. New aliens (new animations and models) would be fantastic (including imports from X1) and not out of the realm of possibilities, but there is literally no way to know. We are more likely to see recolors like the Muton Centurion.

My early hopes of limiting the amount of my units being spotted to limit exposure to psi attacks is immediately dashed by a cyclops that started in front of my ship.

Cyclops have almost no real offensive capabilites, but they have extremely high resistances, armor, and health. This one goes does after getting hit by 5 heavy Gauss shots (100 piercing damage).

Looks like I've been jipped. Even after being spotted I didn't get hit by any psi attacks, meaning there are no ethereals and probably no sectopods.

Looks like they just sent cyclops and waspites for their dirty work. It might still be a tough fight, but its not going to be that interesting, so I'm not going to do a play by play, will probably just post the mission results with a summary.

I play on this screen size because I have a habit of browsing 4chan, watching videos, or watching streams at the same time as I'm playing x-com. I can see everything fine, so making the window bigger doesn't change anything for me.

Literally the only danger then becomes possible grenades from operatives, but you can easily focus them down.

Send in an op with 15+ mobility, then when the mission comes? If it's an extraction, let your op solo the mission by chaining relays, breaking LOS if needed, and just get the fuck out in 3-4 turns. If it's data recovery, bring as much firepower as you humanely can. Fuck smokes and medkits and everything else, replace them with grenades. Your cover will be the op disabling the map if EXALT survive to react

At the begining of each month the game picks the alien missions: survey, build base, etc. I don't know exactly how it works, but there are a bunch of different groups - and once you complete that, it switches out one of those groups. So Ayys don't run trading missions any more, and government patrols are replaced with government fusion patrols.

That laser on the front of the gun is a rangefinder. Those are airburst rounds. The laser detects the distance between the target and the shooter and programs the individual round to detonate after a certain period of time has elapsed.

I really like your plasma weapons, done a great job on them. Though I have to admit they seem a little matte on their metal finishes. There should be a term for a unit that is so high danger and high priority it ends up being terrible and irrelevant because it is such a priority target it almost never lasts long enough to see any use.

I think I've been shot at by a sectopod, ignoring Julian, maybe on two turns or at most 5 turns in 293 hours of Xcom2.

I see it or hear it and right away it's the #1 priority and is going to get either/and/or: Frost grenade EMP grenade bluescreen gremlin shock or Gremlin capacity discharge. I'd say ignoring abatap's my priority to disable if not kill is:

Sectopod > Gatekeeper > Codex (for that damn weapon disable) > MEC (fuck you rockets) > anything else. Sneks rank higher than advent usually because poison cloud if not mid-late game is a bitch without medkits.

Of course I'm angry, they're a fucking trap for rookies and that's when you face them. Fire makes rookies panic and then they die from BEING ON FIRE and no you can't do anything about it because they do TOO MUCH DAMAGE and have captan health so it takes 2-3 rookies IF THEY ALL HIT to actually kill one of them and all it takes is one shot from them to create a panic spiral and instant loss of mission.

Trying to think of a game I've waifu'd as hard as EW___ recently and I can't. I just want more of the EU/EW Ethereals and I was so disappointed by XCOM 2.

What else? The STALKER games have really captured the post apocalyptic not-obeying-the-laws-of-physics aesthetic for me, so I always want to see more of that. And the Metroid games for being a badass bounty hunter exploring mysterious landscapes.

Just beat my first playthrough, decided to throw on the playable aliens mod because why not.

Dear fucking lord the Codex with a shotgun is terrifying. Teleport behind a pod at elevation, give their gun an extended mag and autoloader and you can just execute every goddamn one of them effortlessly.

Anyway, next run I'm doing maximum random. Long War toolbox for Not Created Equal and Hidden Potential, going to download a mod that gives Valkyria-Chronicles style Potentials at certain levels, going to download every perk mod I can find, and then install a Perk Roulette mod on top of that. And maybe that loot drop mod, why not.

I'm also probably going to increase both squad and Pod sizes- I played on Veteran but either because of the mods I installed or just the general balance it seemed like once I hit Mag weapons I was set- Plasma was just overkill. I'd like to increase the difficulty just a tad so the upgrades feel more necessary. Any suggestions for difficulty/squad size/pod size to achieve this?

LMGs are VERY situational but can output SO MUCH damage. The only problem with LMGs is that you need a high level of map awareness to make them useful. For tight corners maps you'll need a SAW, but for maps with some breathing room and elevation, LMG will save the day.

The difference between marksman rifle and sniper rifle depends more on your playstyle. Both are more accurate than LMGs/SAWs so you don't need to worry so much about placement. A mobile sniper will definitely need a marksman's rifle, but I think they drop off after Laser tier., where they're pretty broken.

A good choice might be marksman's rifles for squaddie snipers and sniper rifles for full-ranked.

Has anyone ever seen this bug before, where you only have a super low amount of income?

I think it might be the more dark events mod, maybe the 50% reduced income dark event I got early in the game bugged out and stayed permanent, but even then I own a whole continent, my shit shouldn't be THIS low.

To be reiterate, its was a small ship, smugglers, smuggling. I'm late in the game and it was the ship that is !not the millennium falcon. Maybe they show up on other ships and mission types, idk.

Also that ethereal is the single toughest enemy I've fought. Incapacitating or killing 13 of my max stats crew is pretty impressive. He reaction melee attacks you when you step into the tile he's facing, so try to make sure that the gal being move there is also facing them so that they actually can take an action before getting whacked five times by whatever those late-game swords are called. Then again, no one was wearing armor resistant to cutting, so with the proper armor in might not be to bad.

Ok so there's a "Star God" terror mission coming up. Hopefully they decide to actually show up this time so I can take home a sectopod and hang it up as a show and tell piece in my base.

They mostly look like colored glass (yes im aware it was meant to be energy) over the face, but I cant seem to find where they came from.

I only had it left on a soldier I saved to the character pool, but since im trying to clean the mods out, and since I didnt want soldiers to ask for stuff that wasnt on anymore, I delated the soldier pool and tried to start making them again and... I cant find the "powered" series of helmets.

No idea, this was the first time it happened to me. Fortuantely I think PirateZ makes equipment very hard to blow up (unlike og-xcom) so barring some serious explosives I was probably fine. On the other hand, if you wanted to retreat you would have to manually carry all of your equipment back to the elevator or lose it all. Which would be horrifying if you took on a base assault and realized you weren't going to win.

Originally I just gave her the sports bra and tight slutpants for the view. and the space helmet because I liked how it looked, but she just kept surviving and ranking up and getting Enemy Protocol rewards and now she's my MVP hacker. I also have a personal RP thing where XCOM soldiers often didn't wear armor because it was useless and went into battle wearing fashionable outfits as a symbol of protest against Advent's Final Fantasy Nomura fashion police. Like all the Anarchy's Children outfits were historical flotsam discouraged from present cultural discourse by Advent propagandists and so some WW1 historian bitch goes around wearing the Kaiser helmet she stole from her old museum and ridiculous facepaint is a common thing.

Once armor became useful everyone started putting it on as they became more comfortable with the idea, by the time Warden armor came along she's wearing full plate. It worked out really nicely for what was just fapbait.

By default it only has two choices, and only soldiers you get from events are Roulette, but you can change the .ini to make either some percentage of your soldiers be roulette or 100% of them, and adjust the number of choices if you have a UI mod that allows more than two.

I think you also have to edit the .ini if any mod classes have different primary/secondaries that you want the roulette to be able to use

So, I just now realized that the Training Roulette mod doesn't add in anything from modded classes- there's an addon mod that makes it work with some of Grimy's other classes, but I'm going to be looking into a solution that lets you Roulette any and every ability at your disposal. Legend Ironman is pretty much impossible for me. I'm doing a Bronzeman Legend, so I'll replay missions where everyone dies. If there are a few injuries, maybe one death, but I win? Fine, fuck it, rookies are coming in next time I guess.

Unfortunate situation, but perhaps this is a good time to remind you to work on your isolate-and-destroy game. It's a big deal and super useful to learn how to isolate pods and the like. Of course, sometimes you move one tile and pull a pod (did that recently on a landed UFO mission, sucked ass).

That's an extremely subjective question. Some people would say literally any savescumming. Then there's a question of how you define savescumming. Do you mean reloading because you missed a critical shot? Do you mean restarting a mission because if failed? Do you mean restarting a failed hack?

In the end it comes down to what feels right to you. It's called savescumming because it's a scummy action. If you don't feel like scum doing it, then at least for you it's not a savescum.

In my opinion this is correct, but there's one important stipulation to make. For some people, ironmanning is objectively more fun. However, its harder to get into the mindset of accepting losses and moving on. There's almost a barrier of entry that requires some people to make an effort to break.

That's why I encourage anyone to actually try and commit to ironman, even if they think they wouldn't enjoy it, or they wanted to give up the first time something goes wrong. I didn't even know the concepts behind ironmanning and savescumming when I first started playing x-com, so getting into this "no reloading" mindset was challenging and not very fun immediately. However, I can say I now objectively enjoy playing x-com/XCOM more now that I changed my play-style to an ironman one.

Yes. If you get the mod that allows you to start your own missions, one option is to start a mission to rescue a captured soldier. That's all I am aware of.

What are the mission objectives for protect the device again? It's been so long since I did one. I always avoid those missions because they're pure cancer. Did you complete both of the objectives? I know for other missions that if you don't complete them both your soldiers can get captured.

I savescum so this isn't me trying to make it a definition that fits my ego, but savescumming is definitely reloading because you missed a crucial shot, or a mission that failed, or a failed hack. (I do the mission failed or just about failed one. Usually I'll scrub the mission entirely rather than redo it, unless it's a "random xcom shot makes car go on fire and kill VIP Who is too stupid to leave a burning car). It's not savescumming if you reload because of a game-breaking bug you have no control over. As much as I'll contextualize save-scumming when I get some bullshit "every pod convenes on me in 1 turn" situation, that is still save-scumming.

And what >>149176987 said. Or bronze-manning (You cannot reload except to restart the mission). It is a lot more pleasing when you struggle and have to accept sacrifices. What I will admit personally is that at least on long campaign mode I will savescum to prevent a campaign from total failure because I worry about losing interest if I have to repeat the same early ballistics and kevlar period over and over and over and over.

However I would probably enjoy the game more if I didn't save-scum like that, either.

Not everyone enjoys the same things. If you've tried doing it, and didn't enjoy, it's not for you. There's nothing wrong with that.

Same thing for people who install mods to make the game play however they want. I don't understand people who play with that mod that makes it so when a pod activates the aliens don't move. It makes no sense to me how they enjoy that. I don't really berate anyone for it though, because I know there are people who would berate me for restarting a mission.

In the end the game comes down to having fun. If it's a chore to play through, and you're not having any fun, then why are you even playing? There's a certain fun for a lot of people for overcoming overwhelming odds, but running yourself into a brick wall too much will kill off your enthusiasm for the activity sooner or later.
