I look at it kinda like sorcerers are really just winging it, so the more charismatic you are the better you can pull that off.
>>
>>148909579
pretty sure it's just "d&d sorcerors use charisma so pcb sorcerors will too even though they're not really similar at all"

in d&d sorcerors casting using force of will makes more sense because they're basically using magic that's inherent in their bloodline, as opposed to wizards who master magic through study and reading and spellbooks

but in pcb sorcs are just "the best at reading spellbooks"
>>
>>148908339
d&d does have a willpower saving throw for attempting to resist shit like illusions or mind control type spells, but it's based on your wisdom, not your charisma

I know the ways in which it will get much worse, but right now this isn't that bad. Some scary turns in there though....+0 speed and -42 AC (I got a ring of protection [+8] for warg quest whoo)

so what would be the worst possible thing this enemy could do?
>>
>>148908339
>Wouldn't that be some sort of Willpower stat then?

That would be too original. Roguelike players expect the same statline as in D&D, and they get confused and angry when game developers try to do things differently.
>>
>>148911083
In terms of direct damage, if you have more than 600 hp and have low saving throw, invoke the hand of doom
in all other cases, cast a manastorm

Though some, like fire a rocket or breathe disintegration, are pretty bad.

Overall worst is summon cyberdemons, greater undead, lords of amber, or uniques because they do lots of horrible damage themselves and many also summon.

>there is not even a single roguelike game that has enemies with multiple abilities which they use intelligently
>>
>>148912460
well, yes and no
in angband, monsters with the "casts intelligently" property won't use a spell of an element they've seen you resist

also in poscheng if you're getting a monster angry (by damaging it from range, for example) it forgets its less powerful spells
>>
I wonder what Lindsay things of DCSS. I bet she never expected Crawl to get so big.
>>
do you guys talk about rimworld here? im just starting it out.
>>
>>148909579
Maybe sorcerers are persuading the magic to do what they say.
>>
So what's the lategame weapon for rogues/ninjas in PCB? There are a few obvious ones for some classes but I can't really think of any here. Maybe Assassinator? Aglarang doesn't look too amazing for later monsters.

generally silver chariot in one hand and the dragon fang of ancalagon in the other, as far as standarts go. There are other things that work but that's a classic. Silver chariot was nerfed (kindof hard, it went from 3d6 to 2d6 in a weapon that gives +attacks) but still works.

Lindsay is a girl's name.

I have literally never seen assassinator or dragon fang of ancalagon ever so I wouldn't count on finding them.

Reforging onto a falcon sword is decent if you have one.

I'm pretty sure rogues can use and even obtain high skill in most any weapon.
>>
>>148913992
also aglarang is pretty damn good
it has vorpal_II (aka *sharpness*, as opposed to sharpness) and +5 speed and dex....
>>
>>148914704
>8d4 dice with no enchantments
wtf i hate aglarang now
>>
>>148914852
+5 speed and dex is really really good
the dex basically makes up for dual wielding big things in many situations, and the speed is huge speed on a weapon, which is very hard to get and very liberating for equipment shuffles
>>
>>148914609
>I'm pretty sure rogues can use and even obtain high skill in most any weapon.
Do 2h swords count? I think it'd be pretty silly seeing a rogue lugging around something like Typh's sword. Vampires for some reason get Crisdurian instead of the rogue-class Old Castle rewards.

Trump realm is surprisingly good utility. I was expecting forty "summon x" spells, but it has telepathy, phase door, teleport, teleport level, dimension door and banish in the first two books. Up there with sorcery as the best support realms, I think.

Shame my silly plan of summon a gazillion spiders and let them fuel infernal deal when they get eaten doesn't work and my interest in this character is gone.

Made a very simple pocket world which has four corners, and the last of humanity (94 total) is located near a goblin dark fortress that has over a thousand goblins and hundreds of trolls and beak dogs. Stepped out of the first town and sure enough, there's an invading siege.

I don't know, I'm having a blast. The goblins took over an abandoned town, and I killed the leader of the locals and took over the town, and now I have my own town.

They sent a reclamation party and I tore through them until I was so exhausted I couldn't stand, and was royally fucked up by the time I was done. There were so many that I actually fought them back into the outskirts of their dark fortress, and so I couldn't quick travel heal.

hydra slayer can get harder if you play an echidna and you're trying to figure out the optimal weapon loadout to be able to one or two-shot every hydra you see, at least once they get into 3 digits

especially since their health regen is low enough that they can't afford NOT to do that
>>
>>148988721
You can still roll arbitrarily high damage on any given turn with the vorpal_2, you just average 372, and untyped by the way which is great. The other half of Aglarang's power (maybe more than half) is the 5 speed and the fact that it helps you hit your blow cap while dual wielding with +5 dex (i.e. it improves your other hand's hitting ability a lot too) so it is strongest when paired with another strong weapon.

It will not display a higher average damage per round number than the other, higher-damage-and-bigger-dice endgame weapons, but it pairs very nicely with one of those.

So basically: the dice can do arbitrarily high untyped damage from *sharpness*. The dex makes both hands hit really well and with many blows. The speed is insanely strong, and remember that a weapon with a higher damage per attack number may actually do less damage than Aglarang because you get to take turns more frequently with Aglarang's speed.

>>
>>148991551
Your order of operations are wrong.

That would be (103/27)*0, or simply 0.

You do the exponent in parentheses first, and then, because multiplication and division have the same priority, you do whichever is furthest on the left, so it becomes 3.814...*0, and then simply 0.
>>
>>148991810
What? The parantheses mean you do that part first.
>>
>>148991919
Yes, and the parentheses only contain the exponent, so it becomes 103/27*0. Now, the only evaluations left are division and multiplication, and you start from the left with 103/27, and then multiply the result by 0.
>>

Yes, and I do. The parentheses evaluate to 27. After that you don't just skip to 27*0, because mutiplication and division have the same priority, you do the leftmost one, in this case, 103/27.

P > E > M=D > A=S.
The parentheses, which are ( and ), only contain the exponent 3^3, which evaluates to 27, thus turning the problem into 103/(27)*0.

Now, because the parentheses no longer contain anything that can be evaluated, they are removed, and the problem becomes 103/27*0.

Because M = D in the order of operations, and you start from the left in situations where there are conflicts of order, the problem becomes (103/27)*0. Next you evaluate the parentheses into 3.814, and the problem becomes 3.814*0.

Because anything times 0 is always 0, the problem is simply "0".

>>148993057

I can't really do equations in this text box so bear with me
so the chance of him surviving until level 15 is [15]∏[x = 1] (1 - y(x))
then multiply by (1/3)^3, assuming crawl devs made the "random" stat ups independent

Rockets nether chaos waste are all about the same. They deal ~600 damage with no resistance in that type, and ~300 if you have triple resistance. Disint is 150 and eats the walls around you. Mana is 250.

The main things about the serpent is: Fast as hell; dispels your haste; lots of HP; summons lots of horrible things.
>>

>What are the nastiest breathers
There are a lot of nasty breathers in the game, I mean I really can't begin to describe how many there are. Press % and then press 7, after that press the right arrow key and use the up and down keys to navigate the unique monster list. Generally you want to avoid a lot of the lategame uniques if you don't resist their breaths and you should always keep easy monster recall info on because of this so you can [l]ook at them and [r]ecall to see what kind of attacks they have. Breaths can one-shot if you don't have any resist. I don't see people post this enough but AVOID MADAME DEBBY AT ALL COSTS UNTIL YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY CONFIDENT YOU CAN KILL HER, breaths are really strong in this game and a majority of her arsenal is composed of a bunch of them.
>What's Oberon's glyph
It's a (p) for person like all the other amberites/humans and it will flicker through colors.
>Is there a visual representation on blood curses
You'll get a message after you kill an amberite if they put one on you and your bottom right will usually show *CURSED*
>Where does the Paralyzed status appear in the GUI
All the buffs/debuffs appear in the bottom right
>>149008849
The worst ones are disintegration (grayish black) and toxic waste (dark and light green). Toxic waste is bad because it can mutate you in the middle of battle if you don't resist it heavily. Disintegration is bad because it destroys the walls around you which leaves you open to be surrounded by summons.

Oh yeah, and this tip doesn't get posted at all too for some reason but always do the Old Castle quest since if you complete it you'll get an amazing artifact for your class. There's stuff like Dracoliches and Greater Titans in there but as long as you resist nether and confusion and have good gear you'll be fine. If you're not sure if you can handle those monsters you can always go to the arena dungeon once you're in the early 40s and try and take one of them down.

whichever ones you don't resist, basically

mana is unresistable but relatively low damage, disint is even lower but it destroys walls so say goodbye to your killhole

chaos can do nasty shit like confuse+hallucinate you if you don't double-resist it
i think toxic waste mutates you but it checks the relatively common poison resistance

Your hypothetical should never happen. You should note the presence of all corners that a priest could come from when you are fighting orcs, and position yourself so that you can break LOS with any priest using a single movement action. The only time you should have to fear an orc priest's cock is when you're already adjacent to him and he's the last member of his group.

That's only if they can attack your weakest party member within their turns.
Still, if you're luring their archers with Wizard with shitty HP and good evasion, sometimes that 30% chance will hit. You won't get good evasion early against archer without Arrow guard.
You'll waste a few turns to revive your fallen party and heal him to full health.

Later 1.3 enemy archers gets Concentrate so they'll bypass your evasion protection (unless you use Arrow Guard) and there are plenty of skills with 100% accuracy (Jump, Summon, Draw Out, Concentrate, Guns, etc).

SP_MUMMY, every 5th level gets equal bonus stat between STAT_STR, STAT_INT, STAT_DEX.
https://github.com/crawl/crawl/blob/master/crawl-ref/source/species-data.h#L539

When mummy's level is divisible by 5, this is the code that will modify your bonus stat :
https://github.com/crawl/crawl/blob/master/crawl-ref/source/species.cc#L377

It will pick randomly between STAT_STR, STAT_INT, STAT_DEX then call modify_stat and raises it by 1.

Both of the options are blatant strawmen. DDA is set up in such a way that 'bloat' doesn't harm anything. It doesn't matter if there are 20 different kinds of fursuits, because they exist only for roleplaying and have no gameplay cost.

DCSS regularly adds new features, and it can have most of those removed simply because there are so many people working on it all the time, trying to see what sticks. Whining about the developers not listening to you when you "beg them not to" remove features is especially stupid, because you aren't begging anyone. You're just bitching on 4chan (that the developers don't see), and ignoring their well-formed arguments for why these bad features need to go away.

>>149079758

honestly this early sorcerer is still pretty fun
keeps you on your toes when anything in melee or that casts mind-affecting debuffs can force you to pop speed and curecritical. The offense at this stage is still very good and the mana is cheap. Ring of See Invisible and "The Robe 'Defender'" with (only) rBlind is actually pretty nice relative to the part of the game I'm still in.

>>149082137
you can read all magic books from the regular realms (so trump, life, death, sorcery, chaos, armageddon, nature, crusade, daemon, arcane, craft, and not including necromancy, burglary, music, hex, or kendo). They start with !Master level of practice at every spell in the regular realm books. They start the game with a wizardstaff, which decreases the mana cost of spells. They can only become proficient at attacking with a wizardstaff, and they start as a !Master of that (though they still are awful at hitting things at all). They start with -50 AC. They lose maximum mana while wearing more than 4 lbs of equipment (so they rely on certain rare super-light equipments made more or less specifically for sorcerers, and in fact some of these set a character's AC to 0, which is great when you were at -50). They are one of the very few classes that uses charisma as its main casting stat.

Yes and no. The weight limit is lower, but the only thing they lose is max MP for armor, and spell success maluses for gloves without +dex or FA or by wielding icky weapons (which is anything but a wizard staff).
>all for the sake of being worse than High Mages of Chaos/Armageddon at blasting things
They lose the flat bonus to spell damage (which afaik does not scale much but I could be wrong) but gain any per spell bonuses high mages get compared to other magic users. Plus they're able to use any spell they're of the appropriate level for at its highest proficiency with no spell cap, which is really their main advantage. Also shitloads of MP.

>enemies avoid fighting in single file lines in corridors (unless it's a pack of smiters)
>if you're in a corridor, enemies will split up and surround each opening and begin the siege, then starve you until you're forced to exit
>other bullshit

Because it appeals to casuals who love to sit back and get served hot garbage.

I don't anymore. I tried playing it again recently but it's just so fucking boring and tedious

Because games that put too much priority on
>muh design
such as SIL or Brogue end up being elegant, but not fun.

3/27 is a great number and I really am proud of all she has done

>Why does everyone just play DCSS?
it's a cheap and easy time waster.

it's literally the cookie clicker of roguelikes.

>Tedious late game stages that are just stair dancing.

>I'm going to say things that aren't correct to support my misguided opinion even if everyone knows the things I said aren't correct

>Random mutations
This is not a negative or positive.

>No balance in god mechanic.
Valid criticism, I agree the gods need to be rebalanced.

Have fun hating enjoying things, I guess?

Sil is fun though, just low replayability

Just modify DCSS. That way all you have to do is the AI, and all the content is already there.

Anime is for faggots
And not the cool faggots that kick ass and suck dick, but the kind of faggots that spew /pol/ memes in public.

To be fair, instead of complex AI interaction you could just make a bullshit monster that somehow is still fair
Let's take PCB for example. How do we make an enemy that stands out from the other hundreds of bullshit enemies?
>Always dimension doors next to you
>Always deals 10% of your HP in melee damage while draining 30% of your mana
>Max, not current
>Only takes 10% of whatever damage you deal to him in a turn
>Has 15k HP
>Is only +10 speed
By the time you meet it you should have a few options regarding offense/defense/escape, so it's not a roflstomp each time
I'm gonna name it Greatest Hell Beast

Where does it say that they don't?
>>
>>149087186
Rei/Yui/Lilith/whatever tells Shinji that it's up to the individual whether they come back or not. You have to will yourself back into existence.
>>
What the fuck is PCB?

baka senpai desu

Evangelion has an absolutely god-tier dub. Only the side characters are iffy.

>>149088097
Poschengband, a variant of Angband

>because they exist only for roleplaying and have no gameplay cost.
>no gameplay cost
they take item spawns from other, more worthy items.
