The damage is a lot lower than it used to be, really noticible when you're the only cutting weapon going for tails. Even pure focus on the tail, without mount-spamming, I'm lucky to cut them right before the end of a hunt, while back in 4U I would have a Gore's tail off half-way through.

With the extract hunter art III I now have triple up going for the entire hunt. The motion values needed to be reduced a bit anyways, it's still super powerful.

I've been helping run a marathon of Gen since it came out on twitch, and one of the streamers ran it a couple of times during a hunt. It was fucking great to watch, especially since the mount-shots with it miss allies, and can be super-spammed.

In 4U monsters tended to follow a very specific pattern of rage, downtime, roar, downtime etc but in gen I've noticed them routinely do things like rage or roar 3 times in a row or do fake outs where they stop for just a second only to rage again.

It's barely noticable in motion.
Health bars are useful if I'm playing something like Wide Range SnS or HH so I know when to heal/buff.
Having the map up there makes navigation easier as I can move about using the zone geometry at a glance.

If his tail is red and you get hit by it, it'll set you on fire. If you do get set on fire roll a few times to put it out (or once through water).

I'm fond of Bomb cats because I find them getting a bunch of part breaks, staggers, and sometimes towards the end of the fight, topples.
Of course you'll want a healer with horns for defensive support too.

Protection cats are eh but are probably good if you're a Gunner.
Assist cats are useful with all their traps and status conditions.

They're piss easy to break if you use either the LS or the IG.

LS's Spirit Combo's natural mind's eye blows through them. IG Bug Swarm HA's blunt damage wrecks them too.
