>>
>>148915837

Its a cheesy as fuck game based off old monster movies, where aliens invade earth using giant insects and robots. The series has been around forever.

You pick a class and go fuck up literal tidal waves of bugs and robots. Its alot of fun in multiplayer in the harder difficultys, trying to unlock bigger and more explosive weapons. The map is also totally destructable. You can level the entire city as you "save" it.

I don't mean graphics so much as the general shit brown/piss yellow color scheme characteristic of 95% of late 2000's games. And it does kinda look like RTS zoomed in all the way, but my favourite games of all time are deus ex and system shock 2 so.

Turn off cyberdoges as well. But leave the spiders.

Meteor storms are shit because they aren't proper random events, they hit your exact location and failry frequently. I've lost countless ion thrusters while looking for platinum to those things, KEEN just don't understand the concept of fun.

Yes, buying the game. Which sucks, because my copy is legal (steam sharing) but unless I want to fuck up my friend's access to it I can't do anything. I get that the devs like their money and all that but they're kind of being jews about it. Won't go on discount - fine. Mods locked behind permanently linking your account to them? Not fine. What the fuck do you do when you're tired of enginnerings? IT IS OF TIME TO PET DOGS.

The only reason to disable them is if you don't have small ship mod that allows for interior turrets on small ships and you want to use wheeled vehicles.

So this was kinda the idea, pleasant easy cruising held afloat by jet engines. They kinda eat too much for my liking and it's impossible to precicely control this this without emptying half your auxiliary tanks. Still, not a complete failure, and I can always add more thrusters/atmospheric thrusters.

Now tell me, how badly will it clang if I add a piston operated drill on the bottom for e-z ice refueling from frozen lakes?

When making electronic circuits have 3 copper cable makers feed directly into 2 electronic circuit makers
you only need 1 gear factory for 5 red science labs
have a ratio of 5 red labs:6 green labs (1 belt factory and 1 inserter factory is enough for 6 green labs)
make alot more research labs (12ish is probably fine for 5 red and 6 green)

I'm studying to be a teacher at uni, but I've always liked mechanical stuff. I've played with this game on and off since I was 15 and I'm 22 now.

I think it's just accumulated practice. I've memorised all my basic mechanisms and how they go together. It's gotten to the point where I can design something almost purely in my head before I get to the computer
>>
>>149080595

>>149080859
Do the math.
Count how many gears are made in minute and how many of them one assembler uses per minute.
>>
>>149079296
Let me put this into perspective for you.

In your first video, you have a thing that seeks out and eats "food". Pretty simple, most A-life sims have that. It also excretes. More novel, but still seen before.

Then, you have another thing that seeks out and intelligently tracks down and eats the "prey" creature. Again, most a-life sims have that.

BUT THEY'RE MADE OUT OF FUCKING GEARS. I haven't heard of anything like that, even by 16th-century mechanical engineers able to make dolls that can tell you to go fuck yourself by handwritten note. Sure, the engine lets you cheat a bit, but the logic is in gears, not code.

And here's the truly impressive part: NOT ONLY do you have predator/prey simulated, but the fucking prey even FLEES. WHILE IT'S HEAVILY DAMAGED.

I really should start making spreadsheets then, I guess.

So dumb question: there's a "crafting speed" modifier for the assemblers; I assume the player's is equal to 1, and any multipliers are based on that? i.e if it takes 0.5s to make something and the T1 Assembler's speed is 0.5, it takes 1 second to make the object?
>>
>>149081368
You don't need to calculate how many are made in a minute unless you start fucking around with different modules or something. Gears take 0.5 seconds and red science takes 5 seconds. It's a 10:1 ratio so that's what you build at.

There's a free-floating compass in the middle of the bot that is attracted to a collision group used only by the food. The laser is just a visual indicator of where it's pointing.

It waits for a while for the compass to stop oscillating and then it locks it onto a frame that doesn't rotate. Then it rotates its body around until it aligns with the laser, which trips a mechanism that boosts it forward and unlocks the laser to re-align.

In >>149078832 I just gave parts of the feeder the same collision group so it aligned to the bot instead of the food particles

How far are we away from having good volumetric water in these games like space engineers, empyrion, dual universe and planet nomads?
I know the devs say it's hard to code, but it's only a question of time.

well the problem is they can't even figure out yet how to do any type of fluid in a good way even with the simplification of water and air always falling to the ground
they just can't do it without having it take up loads of processor
so wait like 10-20 years until they have way better processors or optimize the calculations/algorithms to the degree that even shit companies can adapt them into their games easily

Define good volumetric water.

Do you mean Dwarf Fortress water?
Minecraft water?

All voxel-based water has a problem: It is computationally expensive to calculate accurately, and when it's simplified, it looks like shit.

So according to two posts in this thread, this is the "ideal" ratio. Apparently it's wrong, because I have a surplus of science (which I'm not complaining about). Looks like a deficit of Inserters, though.

Because then you'd have to have exact ratios of all ovens, and assemblers, and drills, etc., instead of having enough so that there's a surplus of end product (or, not a deficit)

Blue is more complicated because of things like advanced oil production.

You don't have to keep it exact, it's more to show how overboard people go with the production of things like gears and how underwhelming their production of things like the actual science vials usually is.

Planes are easy once you get the hang of balancing the center of gravity and lift, and when you stop using wing blocks and just build wings using wing panels

Of course mods like rockets help since propellers limit your speed a lot. Although I did make a plane that could take off and fly using only forward-facing water guns

The greatest, most obvious example is with toothbrushes.
This is objectively the best toothbrush for actually brushing your teeth.
Look at any toothbrush by any other company, and you won't be able to count all the "improvements" they've made to something so simple on one hand. Curved handle - useless, rubber coating - unnecessary, fucking tongue scratchers - stupidity. It's all just marketing bullshit to make someone go "ooh," even though the average customer would not give a shit about that and just go for the cheapest product that does the job.

Dont know about research rate, but you should note that electronics fac costs 200mil, electronics seller is 80mil, and silicon buyer is 50mil.
This means you need 380 mil just for one full production line that will consume the output of 2 plastics factories.

So you probably might consider making more money and expanding first.

Also get rid of tier 1 research centers, they are worthless.
>>
>>149179525
It's two minutes of thinking per setup, which is negligible compared to time spent putting it together.
That being said, ratios aren't particularly important to the functioning of a factory - if you're going with bus, that is.
What you more often need to keep in mind is the throughput of the belts and inserters.

They do have friction but not a lot. Coupled with the low friction of the plows it makes for a good launch system.
>>

>Try to make a land carrier
I guess I'd have to use something like the flat side of the hinge block to make a runway, cause fuck trying to land on the plow track

I'd have to make a new plane too cause the way the thrust is placed on this one, it's balanced when the steam gun is on but then if you turn it off it pitches down pretty hard so it's not ideal for gliding and landing

Also
>I see them used on a lot of vehicles.
I guess there's the added factor of flaming wheels. It's extra cool

Plus the vanilla unpowered wheels do have a lot of friction, I stopped using them because they limited the speed of my planes a lot (to about 100 kph) on the ground making it hard for some designs to take off. 100 kph might be enough for lightweight planes with very low wing loading, but for the heavier jets that don't pull up until 150+ they're useless. Unless the plane is a taildragger or has canard elevators, but I don't like those configurations

Wooden unpowered wheels wouldn't even let this thing accelerate fast enough to activate the scramjets

I don't know why people keep whining about this. You're SUPPOSED to run physics server-side because otherwise you get people modding their clients to completely ignore collisions and hide inside rocks while they shoot you.

Kinda like Robocraft.

You can add in client-side physics for shit like interpolation (making physics updates look smoother), but it would be fucking retarded to give the client control of authoritative physics.

Forgot that its like a buzzword.

have you ever played online with latency oscilating between 150 and 400 randomly all the time?
its the same but with spengos enviroment.

>standing still, starting to walk 1 level up through a slope armor block
>go back to the starting position
>start to bounce all over the place
>hit whatever its arround you so hard that you die

>try to move ship
>ship consumes energy but it lags back to its original standing place and you have to push again and agin and again
>eventually it will start to move
>from time to time will decide to go to a complete stop like instant handbrake in carma
>half way you run out of power because the server did knew that batts were being used

>components go into a limbo because they are not in your inventory and not in the list of what you are building as installed

Will depend alot the status of the network, the most little spike will fuck everything, even on -70 ms connections.
People even do a lan server-client to squeeze some fps and sim stability.

>How.
Spengies does not run on code. It runs on Clang. You must realize this.
Clang must be witnessed. Clang must be felt. He who Glitches has yet to gather enough influence to manipulate the real world. But spengies serves as a sacrificial altar. So much frustration, anger and disbelief pours through the dirty glass between dimensions into his maw, feeding his body/world, fueling his growth into the void between dimensions.

You see Space engineers was never created, it was discovered. It might not act like another program, because it's not another program. It's the manifestation of an elder thing's hunger for power. And he feasts every day, every night. until his spindly arms gain enough strength to reach into our world. And that is when you should worry when reality freezes for three minutes.

Keen found spengies, it was never made by them. They are fumbling monkeys, marek is a dumb animal, all operating a system beyond them, beyond us. They just know that things happen. Sacrifice a goat on a full moon, there's now a medieval version. Watch an engine break trice when doused in holy water? Hydrogen engines.
Keen never adds anything, they are merely unlocking features of a program beyond mortal minds. Unspeakable rituals take place at Keen's HQ. Sometimes they unlock things beyond our world. And sometimes they unlock planets. All to retain customers, all to make more money. But some say they know, and maybe they also know that Clang's rise is inevitable? Perhaps they wish to hasten His ascension, and thus be treated less harshly by his influence.

There is nothing we can do to stop it. Just know that there's a reason spengies runs like shit even on high end systems.

First time I saw that I shat myself and I thought it was a feature.
And sometimes, they managed to jump just right to land on my platform.

The only problem with their spawn is that they spawn on the planet surface even if you dug it out, so sometimes they spawn midair and fall on your ship.
A spider tore away one of the two rotors of my helicopter once. That's the only spider I've ever killed, because I tossed it in the air climbing up fast.
RIP spider, you will never be forgotten.

Why the fuck is Nick giving me more and more reasons not to ever play the game again, not even for designing cool shit?
If this shit sticks, I'll just switch to Machinecraft. Jesus fuck, it's not enough that the campaign was basically unplayable for the last half year, it's not enough that all battles are either slow and dumb or two ridiculously overpowered 50k+ juggernaughts, it's not enough that I have to redesign ALL MY SHIPS to make them even able to spot enemies again, but now he even completely removes logistics? Are you fucking kidding me?

And it'll be too much effort to revert it now. Early access, never again.

Want to hear something interesting?

The Neter campaingn has no starting resource gatherer. And you start with 1000 material.
>>
>>149235384
That's not something interesting. That's something that I don't give a fuck about as I will likely never enter the campaign again.
>>
>>149235256
nipdev isn't much better than nick to be quite honest

both are based devs for having made the games that they did but they're both hellbent on making tiny steps in the wrong direction

>tiny steps
>let's repeatedly balance towards huge fucking battleships that deliberately exploit glitches that don't fix, then make a campaign specifically meant for low variety, small vessels!
>let's "rebalance" the old cannon system which filled its own low-power niche by making it basically exactly the same as the other system, except more powerful and slower and with higher recoil, again favoring huge systems for huge vessels!
>let's throw literally all of that out the window by making a new weapon system that is stupidly simplistic, uses replenishable resources and completely avoids all defenses!
>let's make a sensor warfare centric update that adds a lot of independent systems that take up a lot of volume right after adding huge, cheap slabs of armor that out-do literally every other armor in the game, but weigh fucking tons, once again favoring enormous vehicles
>then let's completely remove logistics and resource management after balancing around it for years, for basically no tangible advantage whatsoever!
Nick is an enormous fucking retard, and I don't think even N3X15 can save this. Again.

somebody press him on these reasons
>>
>>149238218
reasons which he won't list
and this sure as shit isn't "strong reasons":

1) Trivial to balance every block and every block's energy upkeep against every other block and every other block's energy upkeep
2) Trivial to compare the cost of one vehicle to another
3) Less micromanagement needed for localised resource system
4) Less potential to mess up story mission or multiplayer pre match resource purchasing
5) Easy to understand and compare block costs
6) Balances energy hungry vehicles against vehicles that spend their material on components (helping to achieve speed/ offence/ defense/armour balance)
7) Less UI clutter
8) Possible to achieve a game balance that is not dependent on a specific campaign
9) Easy to balance any and all campaigns
>some of which are repeated
>most of which are incredibly fucking minor over the advantage of HAVING MODDABLE RESOURCES and LOGISTICS

I dunno, logistics will still exist as materials gets converted into ammo, fuel and so on. Although I would prefer the better realism of the original five. Balancing seems a pretty solid reason.

Whats stopping you from adding in more resources?

>>149237930
This stuff is pretty fucking shit though
>>
>>149239279
I'm overexaggerating on the logistics part, but still, there will no longer be any varied resource shortages, nor any environment-imposed material requirements. Even then, Nick did it like the FUCKING RETARD HE IS, as well as with the stupifying fucking "effective range" update that, instead of simply adding an option to toggle between the two - like with centralized resources - and using a script to automatically convert the original 5 resources into 1 material based on some weights, he just had to rip it out completely.
Why? Probably because he's a lazy motherfucker, as evidenced by his "reasons", most of which have to do with his just as retarded "balancing" that he never stops doing, even though the game isn't even remotely finished yet. You "balance" the game when it's in beta, ie when most game functions and mechanics are already in it. Yet, he has to go the Starbound route and redo everything five fucking times before settling his mind. Pants on head fucking retarded.

Rimworld is literally just dumbed down Dwarf Fortress while not even trying to do something original and creative like Prison Architect. Of course it's the casual game for kiddies.

N3X15, the guy referred to as bald faggot, has never finished or even notably contributed to any project ever.

All he does is hop around different online communities hoping to expand his hopeless CV, which never helped him retain a stable position in his life.

Basically a fat capitalistic burnout.
