>>148742130
Depending on the ships spin and stability, you will only need a few drills, and I've been told that drills cause lag quickly. I'm not sure of any other reasons, or in-depth analysis.

>>148743465It reminds me of Warcraft 3 Fortress Survival.
>>148744212
Oh yeah, farming transports also make it easy mode, since you can easily just dodge turrets, find a ships blind-spot, and grind it down by hand.
When I want to make the game more challenging, I either turn the resource sliders all the way down, remove/lower the rate of cargo ships.
I also like to start on a planet and limit my starting ships to wheeled vehicles only, or my personal favorite, never leave my base and do all external work with remote controlled or pre-programmed drones.
Got guns last night, how do my gun factories look?
Since everything in the production chain needs more than 10 of each resource, most connections need two conveyors for one resource. Is there some kind of conveyor capacity upgrade? Or is it going to stay like this?
If every 2-wide factory needs a 2-wide conveyor it seems to remove most of the efficiency-finding aspect of the game.

>>148751878

>There are some good stalkery mods out, mostly just armor and stuff though I think.
I'm thinking more along the lines of JSawyer mod (by Josh Sawyer and don't you forget it) for new vegas. That mod almost singlehandedly fixed everything that's wrong with bethesda.
>>148752643
Bethesda changed "survival mode" to actually be a bit like that.
No fast travel, sleep is necessary, can't save unless you sleep, increased damage dealt and received, diseases, etc.
It's not perfect and still easy as fuck if you minmax, but there are definitely mods out there that improve it.
>>148752905
>Bethesda changed "survival mode" to actually be a bit like that.
No they didn't, I tried it and it basically made everything into bullet sponges and replaced my power armor with cardboard. That's standart bethesda difficulty, not stalker master/deus ex realistic difficulty.
>>148752190
You're just overexaggerating. Beneath the surface, most generals are like that. Take anything popular, and you attract the worst people, while those with actual standards simply just quietly leave.

So, does each subsequent tier take longer to reach regardless of how optimally you set shit up?
The picrelated is making $5 262/Tick R35.1/Tick... which means getting any further is gonna take a while. 1billion to next territory expansion (Is unlocking kilofactory even worth it? Does it come with decent amount of space?
And electronics is probably gonna take a shile as well. Does it get to the point that complexity is sufficient to entertain me for longer than it takes to research next tech?

Guys, whats the best way to build a ship?
Central control room with all your main computers, where its convenient and can be heavily fortified and defended?
Or system computers and controls scattered around a ship so that theres no "central command" that risks getting blown up and killing all your computer systems in one go?

>Robocuck combined with worse Spongos.

Ah right, well I've only just made it to guns, but it seems to me that the start goes quickly until around steel/plastic, and then it levels out. from what I've heard I think it stays at the same 'speed' for the rest of the game but I don't know for sure.
>>148778086
>So, does each subsequent tier take longer to reach regardless of how optimally you set shit up?
yup
>Is unlocking kilofactory even worth it? Does it come with decent amount of space?
Yes, if you've got yourself electronics, not earlier.
>>148778846
What game?
If you are in your control room then nothing can be done without you, so it is best to place all your stuff right next to you with as much armour as possible.
But if you have multiple crewmembers stationed around the ship or are piloting remotely, then you can survive if you lose your central control room. Then it is best to put your control systems with the things they are controlling. Guns and gun control systems are co-dependent, no point in creating a second point of failure.
>>148779064
Yeah, i've seen this screenshot earlier in this thread. Which reminds me,
>Sideways foundry

>Yes, if you've got yourself electronics, not earlier.
Why not before? Judging by my $$/Sci income ratio, i'll reach $1 billion before 20k sci.
>>148780116
Yeah, I'm pissed off that it took me until guns to figure out the rotating controls. Some sites hosting the game don't allow scroll wheel use.
>>148778846
Depends what game you're playing, as far as I know Spengies and FTD are the only games that allow remote control and programming, so spreading systems out gives you plenty of redundancies, and you can keep flying if you lose half your ship.
Otherwise, if you have to be in your ship to pilot it, then bunch all your shit together. If you die, you lose the entire ship anyway.

>How do you plan to implement control surfaces?
Initially, discrete models. Think KSP. Later on, hopefully something closer to simpleplanes.
>I'm not sure if this has been asked before, but do you plan on setting up atmospheric arenas with gravity so we can make comfy planes?
Yes, gravity and 'atmosphere' are already in the game, just not 'enabled' in the demo. We've been focusing on some other things, but it wouldn't be too hard to just bind gravity to some key. If you were privy to the much older versions, it was bound to 'g', but was removed for the REMO. For atmosphere, nothing as complex as, say, ferram aerospace. This is both for gameplay and development reasons, but it should be easily possible to have something like vanilla KSP with a little tweaking here and there. The reason we don't want a supremely complex aerodynamics system is that while its fun for an autistic few, very punishing aerodynamic physics are actually quite annoying and obtuse to deal with. For these reasons, about as complex as its going to get is a face-occlusion based drag value for every part, even if it itself is occluded by another part entirely. I'm about 40% sure it would be really laggy to check every tick to see if a part was being occluded by another part to incorporate drag, but who knows.
In any case, custom planes dogfighting in a ruined city with autocannons and vulcans is my fetish. Its happening, kicking and screaming, just like any other part of REM.

>>148796071
>I'm about 40% sure it would be really laggy to check every tick to see if a part was being occluded by another part to incorporate drag, but who knows.
Check on a tick only if either the part has rotated enough to increase face occlusion by a tunable low percentage or if damage has been done. Then, cast a single ray (or if computational power is available, a low fraction of the most exterior vertexes of the part) in the direction of travel. Either that, or check it against the geometry of the grid itself in that given direction, and simply check for panels.

A few weeks back, somebody posted a second /kspg/ thread, and a mod showed up and added a /kspg/ filter that sets a thread to autosage.
After that things were fairly calm (or at least as calm as /kspg/ is,) until today. a 500+ post thread became a 100 post thread, and then was deleted shortly after, and any attempts to make a new thread were met immediately with deletion.
While KSP is developed by a marketing company that some people think might be astroturfing in some places, I don't think one of the mods is Squad staff.

Shit's dark yo. You can get some pretty comfy reactors with the spaceframes and bumper mods.

I'd probably try those mods if the lighting issues didn't make it a lost cause. Pic related is the same room with no lights on at all. Now that everything glows in the dark all the ambiance is gone.
>>148832306
Try replacing those interior walls with light armor blocks, also try the no glare on interior lights mod, that might help. I use it in everything.

Also here's one of my recent reactors.
Why didn't REMdevs just make a Gmod mod?

Because gmod is laggy as fuck, Lua is a shit and we wouldn't have much of any measure of control over gmods back end. I've seen dozens of great building mods and game modes die because of one retarded change. We meant ricochet in the sense of bouncing rounds via armor angling, and thickness meaning much of anything at all. Apologies for not clarifying that.

Eh, I gave it a shot and it didn't help much. Seems like I'm just stuck with glow-in-the-dark everything until the devs fix it or someone mods the old lighting back in. The fact that everything acts like I have spotlights on even when the power is entirely gone from my ship makes me almost lose interest in the game entirely. I miss being 2spooked by the long hallways when the power went out. Pic related, left was before they broke the lighting, neither pic has any light sources anywhere aside from the interior walls. I tried building a room of just light armor and it was still just as bright.

Oh I see what you mean, yeah I haven't had to work in pitch blackness for well, fuck the lights have been fucked since I got back into spongo. Hasn't been as detrimental to my game experience because working in pitch darkness would probably give me a headache, but it does seem a bit off especially in enclosed spaces.
>I spawned a Drake Light to test out detection of missile buoys (works fine by the way). It spawned fairly close ahead from my ship, and was promptly assailed by swarm of explosive missiles. What happened next was unexpected.
>A bunch of missiles hit the drake on the far side, clipped one of it's wings clean off. A second volley hit, and suddenly there was explosion, and the drake shot directly against my ship at insane speed. There was a pause for a few seconds when physics calculated the collision. The result: a huge hole on top armor that went straight through two layers of heavy armor, one light alloy.. all of ship's internals, another light alloy, another two layers of heavy armor... and the remains of the drake vanished from there into ocean below.

If ship controls are relative to current cockpit/seat, is remote/autopilot relative to remote block or last used cockpit?
I want to make a ship with huge TBM cross and main engines on the same side and switch from "piloting" cockpit to "tbm" cockpit facing the opposite sides when necessary.
Also would cockpit rotation change relative engine controls? If yes what would happen to controls if cockpit is rotated at 45 degrees?

So i've been playing Starmade for a bit recently, and considering the deadness of the thread, i hope nobody minds if i dump some random images.

I have like 20 more pictures of that faction's base and its ships but they all are fucking ugly.
So we immediately skip to Arstotzka. Which is/used to be this general's faction.
Some weeaboo ship whose name i dont remember parked next to ADF Bismarck.
Anyone know how I can tell Spengies to show all thruster grafics, or at least increase the limit allowed on screen?

ADF Bismarck again, now from the other side. With bridge-like structures protruding on both sides, i can't really tell which is top and which is bottom. But hey, at least this is the sunny side.
>>148861938
A hangar with parking space for 4 ships. Currently partially occupied.
Now we go to the base of "OOB" faction. Dont remember what the full name is, but they have OOB in their ship names.
2 OOB Rockhoppers parked there, sister ships i guess. The closest one looks a bit damaged.
>>148862350
Oh did i say a bit damaged? The other side reveals that damage is actually much more severe. The other rockhopper is pretty much fine though.
>>148862561
And here's what has probably dealt all that damage. A heavily damaged ADF Albrecht von Wallenstein parked at OOB base. I guess the thing got cored and then recovered by OOB.
Probably my favorite picture from my trip to faction bases.
Another interesting thing in OOB base. A mining ship that doesnt look ugly as hell.
>>148860781
The remote block is relative to itself, it acts as a cockpit. The green light is the front with the wide side pointing down.
You can't rotate the cockpit other than by grinding and replacing it. Because of that, you can't have a cockpit at 45 degrees.
And finally, a bunch of "Attack Drones" parked inside a shipyard. Or maybe it is a carrier, fuck if i know.
>>148863274
Is there even anyone actually playing this anymore? Or is it like a museum where you join an empty server to see all the cool derelict ships left behind?
>>148861653
It's not a gameplay issue, it's a graphical issue. THey're all working, but if I zoom out, the flare dissapears and they appear off.
>>148863130
Thanks and I can rotate "the rest of the ship", right? Or would it put too much strain on rotation block and clang my whole ship?
>>148863707
The cockpit only controls the grid where it's placed. Grids are the independent sections connected by pistons and rotors. A cockpit on a rotor can't control a thruster on the other end other than by manually setting an override with the panel.
>>148863981
Fuck. And here I wanted to do a cigar-shaped small fighter with thrusters in X pattern.
>>148864201
You'll just have to use thrust override instead of WASD

I asked for help and expected that help in order to keep the project going, particularly for a project of that scale. It never materialized. I got my DM lexing engine working and some of the grammar working, but got burnt out working on the AST tree.
As for SS14, someone decided to completely recode the graphics engine in the middle of the project. Last I checked, they were still doing that.
What are some good mods for spengies?
>>148869342
Huh, you'd think thing any sane person trying to re-make SS13 would do is get rid of the laggy clusterfuck that is byond, and use some decent fast engine.
>>148869996

Isn't Dean "red rocket up your ass" Hall making his own ss13 with blackjack and hookers? Now that he abandoned DayZ standalone team.
>>148870920
It's called feature creeping, not feature crawling. SS13 is a unique but very niche experience, biggest drawback is the BYOND engine which is unsuited to anything more complex than tamagotchi emulation.
>>148873418
I've heard people saying that Byond is actually a good engine it's just the SS13 code itself is terrible.
>>148873642
byond is shit
>>148873642
SS13's code is terrible because it's trying to make byond do things it was never supposed to do. And byond in itself is worse than fucking game maker and about as limited as adventure game studio. So SS13 hits the double whammy of spaghettiness.
>>148873418
It's as popular as it is only and solely because of the niche it fills. There's no action/sandbox-y thing like it out there, the closest equivalent being Trouble in Terrorist Town or various Warcraft 3 equivalents, and neither of them have a fully destructible environment.
>>148874653
