How much can you spend on the laptop ?
I had a gaming laptop a few years ago because I needed the mobility but it's always going to have worse hardware compared to a desktop for the same money, the battery wouldn't last long and since mine had a 17'' screen it wasn't the most mobile thing either.
It's gonna be one big compromise, you won't get the performance of a desktop nor the portability of a "normal" laptop.

If you just need to move it between two houses or something I'd recommend you build a mini itx on a case like the ncase M1 and if you need a laptop for college or something a 17'' laptop is too big and heavy (the power brick was ridiculous) you can get smaller ones but even a 15'' might be too big but then when you want to play you're gonna want an external monitor.

Do the weapon packs fuck with the faction balance? If I install STCoP or AO will the factions with shit gear still have shit gear?

I remember years ago uninstalling L.U.R.K because holodomor'd poverty bandits were suddenly walking around with mercenary-tier weapons in Cordon.

I installed STCoP yesterday for CoC 1.4
Haven't played much yet, just fucking around Cordon but bandits had mostly AK variants (both 7.62 and 5.45) and shotguns.
Loners had a mix of slavshit and nato (mostly slavshit but some had SG550).

Sorry about that. I'm a bit drunk and I assumed you could figure that one out.

Renaming the sections would break your game since smart terrains would still try to spawn simulation_fracture and crash the game. There are around four gorillion smart terrain configs so it's easier to just make simulation_fracture spawn some other mutants.

Did it even work? I haven't touched those files since messing with MSO for fun ages ago.

Cumulative Pack has the most content of the four mods you've listed (including SGM), but SGM is the most polished out of all those. Polish is a rare thing to have in soups, but I can't blame you.
What about Lost Soul is broken, though? I've been playing for a fair amount of time and I haven't encountered many troubles.
If you're the guy who went to Agroprom and found the place dead as hell, I think (emphasis on 'think') you may have went there earlier than you should have. I think you're supposed to go to Dark Valley first, which you should be able to do by visiting the teleporter at Jupiter, under the crane. I suppose it might be worth trying to reload an earlier save and do what I did.

I think it boils down to that, realistically there WOULD be rape, especially against women. The most likely thing would be for prostitutes to operate at the Bar and a some few women would be part of groups. If you set up a brothel with good security at the bar you'd be set for life in a month, especially if you get the prostitutes to listen in on the customers and then sell the info or steal the stashes.

You'd probably also have a lot of heavy drugs that stalkers would use to escape reality. So there's another opportunity to make a killing.

Dark Valley's easier than Cordon because of the fucking chopper and the train-line. Just stick to the east of the map and you're fine. I tried rescuing a guy once via the west part of the map and between the bandit front porch, the anomaly field and spawning militaries it was time consuming and not really worth it. I left they guy alone by the truck on the hill while I cleared out the base but when I was almost through the anomaly field bandits started respawning and the retarded hostage had to go back and kill them.

That's strange. Maybe it was an issue with a Controller. If you want to try out the mod I'm playing, I could upload a save if you want a head start. I just finished up the Cordon, and have some decent gear already.

I've never been able to finish AA2 either. My saves always got corrupted. I think the only issues I've ever had with AMK were with controllers, and there are ways around that.

Hi, /sg/,

I wanted to ask a question about CoP. I've heard a lot about Misery, very mixed messages are what I'm seeing so far, a lot of people seem to either really like it or hate it. I imagine you gents get plenty of cunts like me coming along and asking if it's any good, so apologies if I'm asking a worn-out question. Is it worth a try? I've yet to play much of CoP, I played fairly far into SoC, but the gameplay was missing something for me, and CoP seems sorta-kinda similar in feeling, at least from the first little bit I've played. I want a brutal experience that's still overall fun.

Should I just try playing CoP vanilla? I heard there were some small mods that help that along, something about the stashes and the firearm sights being fucked, couldn't really find it in the OP, maybe my eyes are just shit.

I'd recommend always playing vanilla first, or at least a mod that doesn't change the gameplay much.

As for Misery, it's a very divisive mod, more of a hit or miss. Personally i enjoy it, but it has plenty of ups and downs.
I wouldn't jump into it until playing CoP for a bit, it changes a lot of shit (whether its for better or worse is your call)

Something disappointing about CoC are it's lack of actual content. After a very short story run, you go back to the usual grind and a bit buggy side-quests.
You will end wandering through the Zone, trying to find creative ways to die.

I hope they put some extra effort in this aspect.

I was also considering actually going back and completing SoC, and was wondering if there's and good mods, it seems like a lot of the ones in the OP are for CoP. Again, probably because I'm shit and not looking at it right.

I imagine it would help to play SoC to understand the goings-on of CoP, even though I'm probably going to use AMK 1.4 or Misery.

Actually, CoP and SoC play quite a bit differently, mostly due to the way maps work.

SoC has more maps, but they're smaller compared to CoP's 3 big ones. Since you're travelling through a lot of areas back and forth, it gives a more... "nomadic" feel (if that makes any sense.) Different NPCs with different services scattered around, though there is a hub area you find early on.

In CoP, each map has a hub location that you always come back to after exploring awhile, and manage inventory/deal with quests and whatnot.

One of the most hyped moment was in either X-16 or X-19 whichever you got all the way down and like 20 soldiers spawns when you complete the mission. At least with CoP it was kind of justified because the maps were so barren and it's not nearly as bad as Dark Valley in AMK 1.4 or the 30 dog woof train in Zone of Alienation.

But the maps in CoP are so fuck-huge and open you can't utilize the NPCs effectively because you never know where the player goes. The only option is to add so many everywhere that the player is guaranteed to bump into one. Since the NPCs are moving all the time you have situations where you can check all of the anomalies in Zaton and only bump into 2 boars and a dog. You're essentially just going for a pleasant jog and you can leave the rifle at home because you just need a decent pistol and 2 spare mags.

No, they were inefficient. They're pretty large but a lot of it is just empty space. The rims of the map were no-one except a few fleshes occasionally goes for example. I'm pretty sure all of them are bigger than the Swamps for example but the swamps had paths you had to take and reeds to keep you from seeing were the mutants were.

How are they large? They're freaking small. They're what, 1x1km. That's nothing. The fact that Rostok is a separate map just shows how small the STALKER maps are. That's the issue I had with CoP. You could do a lot of missions without ever firing a shot. Or jog around Zaton emptying all the anomalies in about 10 minutes and nothing ever stopped me. Same thing in Jupiter, maybe not in Pripyat but I never tried it there.

If anything the down time adds a different, and enjoyable flow to the game and an interesting mechanic people usually don't dare touch. Instead of just sprinting around everywhere spending 15 seconds in a hub to offload your shit you have to sit around for a little and you can enjoy the little things that are in this game. As far as I know the A-life AI just attempts to simulate the NPC's living. It's not really that hard to code.

First, you need to get them something to do. Like a quest, so you would need code to tell them to go to the quest giver and ask for a quest.

Once he's gotten a quest you need code that tells the AI what to do, so if he got a quest to retrieve an artifact you need code that gets the closest location of an anomaly that spawns said artifact.

Now our AI has a goal and a location to move to. So we just need code that tells him to now move towards that location.

Once the AI has arrived at said location, we need code that causes him to check if there are any artifacts there, if there are artifacts he checks for them (never ever check if the artifact he is looking for is there).

Once he's gotten the artifact you just need some simple code to tell him to move back to the quest giver and complete the quest.


Now that you've got the core loop of the AI complete we can begin adding more complex parts to the list. Let's make the part where he requests the location of the anomaly. Instead of just requesting one, we request an array of anomalies that can spawn it.

Now that we've got that done when the AI gets to an anomaly and the artifact isn't there we just have him move to another anomaly to search for the artifact.

Now we can continue adding small bits of code like the last one we added and the AI will feel even more life like.

If one can just rightclick-fill them in the middle of a battle, it just becomes a tedious mechanic, a mechanic people would then make patches to remove. There is offline combat though and it accounts for stalkers equipment and experience level.

When I played TFW for CS I saw the factions changing all the time. Taking new camps or losing them and usually the mercs either won hard or lost hard depending on what the duty faction brain focused on. Now maybe not all of them spawned at their base and walked to the front lines while interacting with all NPCs came their way but there must've been some system in place for calculating where and when they would spawn.

Enemies being bullet sponges doesn't make magazines inherently bad. One can fix the bullet sponges by actually putting some thought in the process of editing weapon/bullet damage. Something that misery lacks, for example, yet people hold it in high regard and seem to believe that this is the best stalker can get.
As for the animation, it gets super predictable, and after a while one can easily score headshots during the animation. It is a bad mechanic, don't get me wrong, but they are only immune to shots that hit the same bone that started the animation.

I can't find a better example of this right now but as you can see with this Amerifat here it's a much faster process for most people familiar with firearms. Even with AK mags you can load them a lot faster than they do in the mod.

How would you even achieve anything with that mechanic? Let's say you're a Bandit or a Merc who's sick of living in buttfuck nowhere HQ and want to go to the bar to get some vodka and buy some good weaponry/equipment, but to do that, you gotta plow through the entirety of Duty because there's no way in fuck they're gonna let you step into Rostok.

You bring a few buddies, a shitload of mags and medkits, etc. sure, but when you actually get there, you realize you're gonna be up against ~20 faggots with Grozas, AKs and mounted PKMs waiting for you. Considering you probably already wasted some ammo on your way to Rostok killing some stalkers/mutants who got in your way, you're already outnumber and possibly outgunned.

Needless to say it doesn't take long for you to run out of ammo for your mags because they got people with Exoskeletons and SEVAs converging on your ass. Given that buddy AI is complete dogshit, they're probably already dead too, leaving you alone and barely armed against a bunch of dutyers + whoever's visiting Rostok who hates your faction's guts.

They can still pump out bullets as much as they want because they don't need to stop to refill mags at any time. They're AI. But YOU do, and it's a slow process. You can't just stop fighting and refill mags because you can bet your ass they're gonna swarm your position the moment you hide away for a breather. So you can either

>Run away all the way back home unarmed and be denied access to Rostok altogether
>Drop your precious weapon + mags you spent so much time taking care of, risking having them disappear/get stolen by NPCs
>Die because you're up against armed NPCs with your Kentucky Fried Chicken butter knife

Immersion, really. It's a funny term, and I hate the word because it's overused, but I found ZoA mag system to be comfy and enjoyed the fact that it slowed the game down. As far as your other points are concerned: If you run out of mags, the mag system won - you weren't prepared. Check your console, some rogue script is gibbing your game's performance, probably an exception on some A-Life dynamic AI script.

If that's the case, there's nothing you can do, reload an old save.

Don't know what the issue is. I've tried it several times but it's never worked. From what I remember it's not a complicated install either. Just copy over the gamedata folder then patches and fixes on top.

The crashes were things i luckily found a workaround to, at least the recurring ones.
Only one or two of my saves every got corrupted.
It's a shame it had so many stability issues though, since it has some pretty cool features.

Wish there was a way to toggle this with different suits/helmets. It's not going to be much fun when I do get nightvision and all the NPCs can't do anything back to me.
