I find that playing on Ironman Mode I don't want to leave my base or the general area, or go too far into hostile territory. Fuck turning off the Radar or going anywhere near lots of Monolith also. I installed the Steam versions of STALKER and not my GoG copies because in my shithouse country I get Steam downloads for free and for the life of me I can't get the Steam overlay to work and Google has been absolutely no help.

I know for a fact the GoG copies work with the overlay just fine but I lost my backups in one of my many spare hard drives. I'd rather not have to redownload all three games because I live in a third world country with shit internet.

Is there a known solution to getting the overlay to work? Alt tabbing to respond to people is getting real old, real fast.

I remember having overlay not work for me only once, but then it worked with some mod. You could try some mods or starter pack, or codebros binaries for soc vanilla and see if overlay works with them.

I'd recommend just using the Zone Reclamation Project and it's equivlent for Clear Sky the Clear Sky Reclamation Project. Honestly Clear Sky is nearly unplayable without it, at least for me.

I'm not aware of a mod like that for CoP because CoP on it's own is actually really good.

Tried all of this, and a bunch of other things I thought to do like adding the game as a non steam game through various means, running it through a shortcut, every graphics mode under the sun and all of it doesn't work. Running steam as administrator doesn't work and none of the things you suggested work. I can't just download the GoG versions at the moment because I have the shittest ISP in the shittiest country so I'll just settle for running them in a window with Borderless Gaming running with it.

What the fuck did Valve do to break the overlays in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R games, absolutely none of them work for me anymore and they did a year ago, I'm on the same computer and everything.

Is there an mod to add more or respawn npc patrols/mutants to clear sky that would work with Arsenal Overhaul?
I fucking love this mod, the new weapons look, sound and shoot ridiculously awesome, tho the firefights end way too fast with the realistic damage model making this too easy at times, and after clearing the map it feels kind off empty and boring, id like to have to watch out for mutants and bandits and not just for my stamina while i run around collecting stashes.

I just get bummed out by games I like having their legacy shat on. Just look at everyones response to NuDoom saying it was a great throwback to the old games when it was anything but that.

Skyrim babies saying shit like Morrowind being a 'terrible' game because they can't comprehend how to create a good character in an RPG game, or find a location on a map without hand holding.

This sort of stuff gives a lasting impression on how people think about classic games in general, and it makes younger gamers even more reluctant to try them and see just why challenging games are much better experiences.

NuDoom wasn't /horrible/ but it missed a lot of the dotpoints that made the original games so great.

Every fight in the game is essentially just a staged arena you get locked into and swarms of enemies spawn in in waves.

It's more comparible to Painkiller than it is to Doom or Doom2. The Level design is also really lackluster.

Yep, just go into NuDoom with the mentality of playing a slower paced Painkiller and you know what to expect. Less enemies on screen at any one point to, I think the maximum even in Singleplayer is 12 enemies at any one time.

No mod support, the multiplayer was tacked on Halo: Doom Edition and Snap Map is already dead. Apparantly this is the rebirth of 'old school shooters' according to plebs nowadays though.

Worth $20 on a sale at most, I'm glad I got it from a shady key reseller for $30 rather than pay full price.

Stop it. New Doom is shit, but so are original games when looking at them today. The only time I replay original Doom is when feeling nostalgic, and I can fucking guarantee it's the same for everyone who truly loved those games and played the shit out of them for the next few years after release.
There were lots of shooters that came afterwards, and which did everything Doom does a lot better: from basic shit like visuals to gameplay and level design (Heretic/Hexen, Blood, Quake, UT, fucking unpatched Crysis MP had more action going for it than everything mentioned combined).

Of course those games you listed had better MULTIPLAYER, but the enemies, the map design and how they enemies were placed within those maps in Doom were, and still are great even to this day. Games after improved upon them but Doom still stands as one of the best FPS games ever made to date and is still very enjoyable even to this day. If the enemies were to blunder about the level, it would be asking too many resources OR they would have to cut down on the amounts of enemies. Serious Sam 3: BFE is a fantastic looking game even by todays standards and can still manage to have 30 or more enemies all on the screen at once and keep a stable framerate and that was fucking five years ago now.

Snap Map is a fucking insult and so limited it's impossible to do anything interesting with it at all without finding ways to fuck with it. Engines are a crap ton more complicated than they use to be Anon.

All of Doom 2016s assets are in data files that people would have to figure out how to code a way to unpack. Not even the RAGE editor can see what's in them.

Then you'd have to reverse engineer the code enough to get an editor to be able to work with the actual game.

Then you'd have to figure out some kind of system to trick the game into loading custom maps/assets.

It's a fucking huge undertaking that is nowhere near as easy as it was in say... was it Jedi Academy that people reversed engineered to make a shit ton of mods for? I can never remember.

Doom 2016 has no good way to make GOOD user made content and it's engine is proprietary from start to finish. You don't realise much harder it is to do this with games nowadays especially with the ways that data is packed into encrypted files you have to design a way to read and unpack. It's a huge undertaking that would require an entire team of people with in depth knowledge of C++ which I honestly know fuck all about. Not to mention it's very illegal nowadays and if you DID make something you're likely to get a Cease and Desist letter within a week.

Give it a shot, it's probably not worth it though because noVideo don't let Open Broadcaster use their encoder.

OBS is still a ton better than FRAPS though just a bit harder to set up and use. Using the AMD VCE plugin I can record 1080p at 60fps with no noticeable drop in frames, the replay buffer is a really neat feature as well.

I'd be totally fine with the concept of upgrades if:
1. you could uninstall them.
2. either they are consistent and similar guns are also consistent (lol guns that are similar IRL having really different stats in game and having the same exact upgrades because "2mucheffort4us).
3. upgrades should also have downsides. Such as using compensators attracting enemies like flies flocking to honey, the weight reduction ones affecting durability, the ROF increase upgrades lowering both weight and durability, the durability upgrades increasing weight, etc.

Yellow pills stop bleeding and they're way better at that than bandages AND they weigh much less and IIRC they also cost less on the long run.
Red pills block out psy damage. They're not a substitute for a good helmet but they'll make the difference when dealing with a controller or when you want to go from the Dead City to Yantar without going through the Siege of Leningrad.
Red and blue pills are antidotes and reduce the chem damage you get from anomalies. Same as above, more or less.
Hercules increases your carry weight by 20kg or something, lasts 5 minutes.

Is Particle Paradise in STCOP known to cause SERIOUS frame rate issues?

Like i run this game on enhanced dynamic everyhere (xcept truck cemetary)

But i noticed after installing stcop. and particle paradise. Army ware house has some SERIOUS frame rate issues. when you look to the northern part of army base. and i see lots of

I don't think it has as much consistency as STCoP. Some AO guns look pretty good, others don't look nearly as nice.

I've heard people say some of the guns are used from other weapon packs, so maybe that's why. Not a fan of what AO does to the economy as well, at least in vanilla, i haven't tried it in CoC.

I like the game well enough, but the level design is atrocious. I keep getting quests separated some three to four areas from where they are to be delivered, often times the delivery would mean backtracking after progressing the story through enemy infested territory, only to get like a few thousand bucks not even worth the supplies spent on the round trip + mission. Do any of the later games tone down this shit? Because I would rather skip ahead to the game that doesn't make travel such a huge chore.

Otherwise, is there anything important to get from the side-quests? I'm tempted to ignore them all and just progress through the story.

Some of the fetch quests are legit tedious, I recommend not backtracking for the reward until you finish the game or until you absolutely need the money. Just keep on stalking.

Also, yes. There are some important side-quests which rewards will help you a fuckton later on. Pay attention to any quest that isn't a simple fetch X thing or kill Y dude.

Basically don't just do the whole "accept all the quests you can" thing.
Most the dynamic tasks you get at the traders are repeatable and offer some supplies and money, but nothing too special. Do them as you need them, if you're low on money/items. If it's on of those "find an artifact/monster part" don't bother with them until you actually have the item, then just hand it in. And try to save the "kill person/destroy base" missions until you're already headed there. if you can.

There is a catch about those missions, if the target dies before you accept the mission your risk breaking the "questline". But as I already said those missions really aren't worth it as you already have enough people shooting at you as is.

If you play VoW you really should take notes of everything that NPCs say, there is a lot of hidden shit, some of which is impossible to find unless you talk with some NPCs (no markers or resumes of what they say in your PDA or anything, that's why you take notes the old fashioned way), hard to get to the first thermal anomaly you see has a rad reduction artifact hidden in it for example, really useful. I wouldn't recommend the Shoker merge as the gunplay is shit. Also the solution for some quests isn't always obvious.

Did you install ZRP, the bug fix mod? It comes with many optional tweaks, among which are the frequency of random quests and their duration. I increase the duration to 7 days from the vanilla 1, which is enough time to finish the whole game so you can just hand in quests as you naturally revisit locations.

ZRP is highly recommended in general.

You can ignore the whole lot if you want to, any quest under do you have any jobs for me is a repeating, optional quest.

A non-optional quest you should do right away when it does show up is the one where your asked to go talk to Guide. Do that quest and its follow ups earliest chance you get. Prioritize them.
