I just played a game of trist. I've seen a lot of comment here deeming her as pretty weak, bit I really didn't see it. How To Varus Mid

I start Dorans. Corrupting Pot, longsword, maybe boots could work too, but I always go dorans, and I've had good results.

Get tear on first back. Tier 1 boots or a longsword if you have the spare gold too. Then get manamune asap, and start stacking.
After that, get Ionian boots. Then Ghostblade. I usually build the dirk first.
Then I go for Deaths Dance, trying to get the warhammer first, unless I want the lifesteal sooner.
Those're the core items, Manamune, Ionian boots, Ghostblade, Deaths Dance.
After that, if they have even one tank, Lord D's Regards.
Last items are situational. Defensive options include Banshees Veil, Randuins (if they have an all AD team) frozen mallet if you are a troll, GA. My secret tech is Malmortius, I've had good results with it.
If you are ballsy and don't want defense, you can get BT or Zedblade.
As always, Mercurial Scimitar if they have too much cc.

Tips

Make note of when you are in fog of war/brush. Basically you can throw out max charged Q's from places they can't see, and it makes it that much harder to dodge.

Roam if you can. Use your range when roaming. If you know an enemy is low health and trying to recall behind tower, try to land a Q.

If you poke your lane opponent below half, you can ult them, auto, E, (they will have max Blighted Quiver charges on when you E) auto some more and finish with a Q. Just be wary of people with burst who can kill you before you kill them, even with half of their health gone.

Use your range to your advantage, especially in lane. Harass with autos, poke with Q. If you dodge skillshots better than them, you should win most trades you go for.

Skill order R->Q->W->E
masteries 18/12/0, get Deathfire Touch, and the mastery that gives you 5% cdr.
I like to go Flash/Heal for summoners. You can try ignite if you want, or barrier, or cleanse, or whatever you want.

Take this with a grain of salt. I do have mastery 5 on Varus, but I am only Gold.

I was gold 1 95 LP and after an absolutely horrendous losing streak where I blame myself and not some awful teammate/afk/troll for one of them I'm now gold 4 50 LP. I'm a jungle main who's having a real crisis on who to play.
