I wasn't even sure I was going to stick with it, so used free gems to buy a god and her vp (kali) which I regret deeply now.

Anyway, the game is surprisingly fun. As some anon said, it's an especially good time for newbies to join because hirez seems to be going for that angle. New gods and new "feature" make it easier and more fun to play as a nab.
It seems that the established playerbase is annoyed by the changes, though.

Lane clear isn't something you should be able to build into too heavily with items, because it's such a huge part of what differentiates god's kits, especially with ability based adcs. Adc's in general will always be the problem child of builds, there is the least differentiation of all classes due to the reliance of auto attacks, so items ADC's build will always be the focus of nerfs and buffs.

I'm glad you're enjoying the game, it really is appealing to new players in the hopes that they become lifelong players.
Kali isn't really a fun pick, you have to like her a lot to enjoy playing her and she fell off again this patch.
I'd recommend the god pack but barring that, get the A tier gods from each role with favor. (I grind like 10k favor a week so it won't take long)

Smite is dying but the playerbase is steady, some would say it's rising especially with console players and referrals. Honestly the future of the game depends on the next few patches heavily but it's leaning towards surviving.
It'll feel alive to a new player, 1 minute or less queues and rarely do you have games with the same people so there must be a decent sized player base.
Stay away from ranked for a while, until you're certain in your ability to carry yourself

Stun can be hard to hit, other tanks have easier to land CC. 2 isn't that good. Disarm is only good against auto attackers, other tanks have better CCs which can hinder all roles. Ult is okay but not great. Passive is weird since he's a support and meant to be behind anyway.

There's no shitpost (other than yours). Loki abuses an insanely broken and objectively imbalanced game mechanic (Stealth) and should be reworked entirely along with the Stealth mechanic. He's an anti-fun cancer that ruins Smite matches for new players and both Stealth and Stun are grossly imbalanced and outdated, and have no place in modern 3D gaming space. They both undermine the risk-vs-reward equation (a cornerstone to literally all game design since games existed) and reward the press of a button rather than player skill. As an avid Jing player, I can say I've found a good place to use her ults, which is always for free getaways and to execute low health targets or catch up to them. Sure it's not that great in general but I've found it's not as useless as I thought it was. It actually can do adequate damage if you use it at the right time when they can't avoid it. This makes her absolutely dangerous in a duel since she can just shit on you and go untargetable as well as reposition herself if she's in a bad spot. I've found that Jing has insane duel potential against ADCs even outside of her ult. Her steroid gives you basically 100% chacne of hitting your target even if they strafe and having deathbringer will make you shit out damage. Your 1 basically gives you two to three free autos on them and can let you harass for legitimately half their health or more. The 3 is always going to be used for escapes or chases. The free hfat makes escaping from her neigh impossible as well as making her difficult to hit during a fight.
As Jing you're going to want to single out squishies like you're a ranged assassin. That's what I do and it seems to work despite what people say about Jing. My builds on her probably look dumb but they feel good considering all the other options i've tried on her.

Alright Smgen, I could really use your advice. I've played just about all the mages in this game, from Ah Puch to Zhong Kui. Incidentally those are the two mages I tend to play, even with their rather differing playstyles.

Anyway, I have and enjoy playing Poseidon, but I seem to die anytime anyone on the enemy team gets near me. The first game I thought it was just because I had aroused the ire of an enemy Odin and he was bird bombing me with ease. But on my second game, I was dropped by Ymir, who has pretty good damage and CC for a Guardian, but still is a Guardian and not a Warrior or Assassin. I'm dumbstruck, /smgen/, I've read the Smitefire and SmiteGuru guides, practiced my attack timings and builds against AI, and spent a decent amount of time trying to git gud. But here I am, asking from help from the Anons of this thread. Am I missing something, or am I doomed to be shit at the King of the Seas?

My build consists of Magi/Shard/Gem of Iso/Chronos/Talon/Tahuti. I'll happily take any tips, pointers, advice, build suggestions, videos I should watch - anything that might make me a better player at Poseidon. Thank you very much in advance.

The most important think with Poseidon, or any mage without a dash really, is to wait wayyy in the back until the enemy team has fully committed to fighting. It's too easy to get blinked on or jumped on and if they have aegis you can't burst them down. Drop a whirlpool and run back, wait for a good Kraken. Don't ever dump your kit instantly unless theres like 2+ people caught because all it takes is 2 seconds for someone else to jump on you and then you're fucked.

Also is that your build order because thats really bad. You should get chronos way earlier, like second item unless you're stacking.

Tahuti and red buff give you +45% power back again, and if you're at cap of 900 power that gives you 1305 power, and then Nox passive gives 156 more.
This is why I hate when people take the red buff from mages late game. Its not a damage buff, it's a power buff. It's also a % return, its useless if you don't have power already and its way more useful in mages. Going 461 power over the cap is a big deal.
