So I've just started playing FTD and got to the tutorial where you replace the engine and gave up because the missiles on it suck fucking shit and if I'm going to have to overhaul the whole thing I may as well just start fresh. What would be the best starting point? The story campaign they suggested? I was thinking about setting it on the lowest difficulty for now while I get used to the physics and what not.

On a side note I love how the building system works but the UI could use a lot of work. Like the easiest example would be to lay out the engine component menu based on what they attach to and then have a 2d picture from beside and on top in that empty space in the right hand corner showing a simple drawing of what attaches where. Would make it a hell of a lot easier for retards like me to remember what I can stick on where.

I have spent an embarassing amount of time building Allahu Akbar droids and so far the only thing I managed to blow up is my own dumb ass when I tried to see if elite automatic rifle penetrates light armor blocks.

A bit disappointed with bomb physics in this game, cause I was trying to concentrate and funnel the force of the explosion in one specific direction, while explosive yield seems to be the only thing that makes any difference.

SVGG, like any other general that's been absorbed into EGG, has died. These are engineering games, or at least games where you build something for a purpose.

Come to think of it, REM isn't even voxel based so it isn't SVGG anyway.
>>
>>148418798
The "formerly /svgg/" part is the only thing keeping this thread relatively orderly. Delete it and you receive modded minecraft, /kspg/, city builders, "IS [non-egg game] EGG?" posters, and people in general wondering why starmade, robocraft and avorion are in the OP

So fuck off and put it in the next OP.

The funny thing is that they say this update will push them pretty close to "Beta", since they still like to say they are in alpha.

And once they hit beta that means the game is basically completed, and nothing new will be added, and they will push the game out into completion and move onto something else.

Garry's Mod E2 experts here?
I feel like a retard, I've tried three methods of char/byte removal from virtual keyboard input. 127(char) produces a space, rather than a backspace. Enter also produces a space rather than a cartridge return - but I don't want to deal with those at the moment.
Debugging is seriously painful. Converting memory to char to number back to string just to view if I'm doing things right, and writing the debugging code isn't even working, though it's pretty simple.

The missiles are currently broken due to changes made to how IR seekers work. Right now, just skip the tutorial and fuck around in the designer while asking questions in the thread.
Minimum-settings campaign should likely wait until you have something that costs less than 75k RP and can win a 1v3 against a Drake Light, a Riverhome, and a Sea Adder. I mention these exact ships since they're the "first wave" in the campaign.

It can also help to load enemy designs and dissect them to see how they work.

That means having equal final production of iron and steel with 1 lab per 1 set produced in 20 ticks would be optimal, right?
I also have access to plastic labs but their upkeep seems way too excessive at this point.
>>
>>148445874
you need to provide one metal lab with one iron and one steel each 20 ticks to make it work 100%
which means you can feed multiple labs with one set of steel supply and still be able to divert some iron to them.

I've played quite a bit of both.
First played Space Engineers when it first came out, it was pretty fun, you know about it, so I'm not going to bother going into detail.

Started playing Empyrion because one of my friends really wanted to give it a try.
It was really fun for the first few hours. Dropped on a planet, little to no beginning resources, have to build up a base, and make various ships.
It stops getting fun as soon as you realize how little depth there is to this game.
Base building is retarded, you don't need to worry about structure, so you canjust have a massive blob with all your crafting stations placed anywhere.
Building ships is also retarded, there is no physics. Thrusters don't need to be placed strategically. If a thrust points up, it'll make your ship go up, no matter where its placed. It could be placed on a 200 meter long stick, right at the end, the entire ship will shoot straight up as if thrusters were under every square.
The reason this is terrible, is everyone just puts all of their ship parts in a little ball, and then build out from that.
Things don't need to be connected, so theres no planning into ship building.
Physics doesn't exist. If I had a really wide wing span, and you were able to shoot one of my wings in half, the other side of the wing thats not connected, would still go with my ship. Even though there is a huge gap, it'll still follow along as if it was connected.
Because of the way thrustes work, all ships are the exact same, no ship is better than another.

The game was promising at first, but with every update, its becoming more and more like space engineers, and it can't do it as well. Its a dead shitty game.

We don't use Microsoft visual studio. Its pretty awful, even in comparison to the free monodevelop.

>>148477823
Worth noting that Galactic Junk league doesn't have even the slightest notion of break off physics. Even robocuck has always had that.

>>148422903
We tried neutral textures, but neither of us are artists so it looked pretty bland and awful. Difficult to see what the fuck anything even was. Once we get enough traction to get some volunteers or pay somebody, we'll gladly replace all the textures with something more detailed. That 'tron' style is litterally the UV maps placed on the emission texture and the HDR turned up a bit with a little bit of color. Easy, simple, good enough, we're working on shit that matters. The panels, unfortunately, are a little bit more difficult to texture nicely. Because the mesh is stretching, the texture stretches with it. We'd need to autogenerate caps on the sides, like struts, in order to even begin texturing them.

>>148421972
That green is a bit of a eye fuck, and thankfully, will not be in the next update. That map is just a unity store asset copy/pasted a few dozen times to create an extremely dense environment that is still navigable in order to test the AI. Good news is that the AI is now a whole lot better at moving around. Bad news is that it still runs into poles. Working on that.

The current 4 iron / 3 steel ratio fucked my shit up.
Will get plastics soonish, ready to tear everything down again. Or maybe I'll just get Chronometer 2/10 and get some sleep lol.

Do I need to keep the game running or do the fast ticks make up for that completely?
>>
For building large FTD ships, do people tend to design the citadel and systems and construct the hull around it or go from the hull to the systems?

I'm starting to think I end up having no space for what I need when I build the hull first.

For Empyrion?
Not too sure how recent we're talking here.
I don't play it often, because everything it attempts to do, Space Engineers does it better.
The game IS slowly getting better, I'd like to point out. But its still no where near as complete, or good, as space engineers, and it never will be.

The best thing Empyrion has going for itself, is the ability to take off from the planet, fly in the athmosphere, go into space, pick one of the planets, and fly to it without any loading screens. Its really fun to venture between them with friends.
If they focused on that more, added more planets, made base building more important, made capital ships more important, it would be a unique game.

Until then, its Space engineers 0.2

Recent FTD patch things for anyone that does not know.

Laser Defense System now officially rekt do to Cannon shells being official targets. Defense sensors will have to be placed outside of the hull/armor. Laser Warner smoke defense only activates when there is actual laser damage now. Small secondary guns can now contribute volume of fire to defeat laser defense system.
Laser system re-worked, so existing laser builds ether do not work or will not work properly.
Crystal Powered Generators X Electric Battery Engine is now endgame power, to make use of all the unused (self regenerating) Crystal without the pain of Oil Refineries that take away the Oil needed to make Big cannons.
Now a 3m and 6m autoloader and clips added to Advanced Cannons.
Jet/Ion Thrusters now have a maximum speed limit.
"Motherships" with Subvehicle Spawner can now rebuild assigned "Drones" during battle, as if now part of the original construction cost.
Nuke blocks (pretty much Spengi Warheads) for mostly Allah Snackbar then actual weapon.
There is now a dedicated Land Ai card.
Spare Processor in Processed Resources make it so Spares Crates can automatically refill with now Natural, Metal, and Scrap resources.
Heavy Armor, a New endgame structure block that compresses more armor density per layer, at the cost of it being weighed as much as Lead Blocks and being damaged by EMP (Which nobody really uses). It costs Scrap, so that that metal resources are not always depleted making heavy armored units of large scales.

So, Factorio.

How do you deal with oil fields? Should I leave my pumpjacks despite a 0.1s ratio, or is just better to dismantle them and move the field elsewhere?

Also, oil barrels or pipes? I use pipes for nearby fields alongside pumps, but I feel lik there's a ton of work to do for what I feel is a very little gain. It feels like I'm constantly having to worry about oil.

Depleted oil fields can be made useful by surrounding the pumpjack with beacons w/ speed 3. Unless you're in the lategame it's easier to just find more of them though. If it's far away use barrels, but using underground pipes is OK even for moderate distances (way further out than you'd use belts for ores).
>>
>>148559447
Keen fucked up at the fundamental gameplay. Then again, these problems apply to a lot of persistent-world survival games.
Multiplayer is effectively singleplayer with an IRC feed and (higher than usual) risk of CLANG.
The biggest challenge about warfare in SE is quite simply finding the opponent.
Once that's done, there's a vast array of weapons at your disposal.
I did consider reconnaissance drones

>>148559674
>or is just better to dismantle them and move the field elsewhere?
Consider the pros and cons of dismantling.
>pumpjack is returned
>power drain (70kW) is removed
>no longer produces 0.1 oil/s
I'd say it's worth keeping the pumpjack.
It can pay off its own power and still produce surplus oil, which is an invaluable resource.
The pumpjack itself is then an investment, which buys oil for iron and copper.

>barrels or pipes
Pipes are fine even at ridiculous distances - even more so if you use underground pipes.

>Pipes are fine even at ridiculous distances - even more so if you use underground pipes.

I've been using pipes more recently with a pump or two since I read that fluid speed is decreased the more pipes you use.
At the same time I want to use trains. Right now there's no inherent need for me to deploy more mining outposts, as the only thing that's bogging me down is oil. So I'm stuck choosing between a simple but painfully boring way (pipes) or a fun but ultimately inefficient way (trains) to transport oil.

FARL lays track automatically, you just drive a special train and it puts down all the lanes, signals, power poles, removes trees, etc.
>>
>>148560662
In reality, fluids and gasses are transported by a pressure gradient. (Remember gradients from previous thread?)
Factorio emulates pressure with how full a pipe is (10.0 means maximum pressure, whereas 0.0 is nearly nonexistant).
This means that liquids flow from full pipes to less full pipes, which effectively puts a limit to the throughput of a given length of pipe.
However, underground pipes can cover a far larger distance with only 2 pipe pieces when compared to regular pipes - allowing longer pipes with same throughput.

>>148561106
>I've been using pipes more recently with a pump or two since I read that fluid speed is decreased the more pipes you use.
Mind you, it's the maximum fluid speed (or throughput, rather) that decreases - as explained above.
Make an estimate of how much fluid is transported, then consider the maximum pipe length that can support this.

>Make an estimate of how much fluid is transported, then consider the maximum pipe length that can support this.

Has someone done the maths to work out the break point where it becomes better to use a train than pipes?
>>
So, the way I see it:
advanced processing is more efficient overall
heavy oil is turned into lubricant, and, when tanks are full, cracked to petroleum
light oil is simply turned into solid fuel to burn in the steam power plants that power everything
petroleum is heavily used in many recipes
0.1 oil fields are still useful and can provide enough oil to compensate for power draw
trains require too much infrastructure for oil transportation unless you have rail tanker mod
Is this correct?
>>
>>148561395

Are you playing on 0.12 or what? Surely FARL is superceded by the new rail laying interface.
>>
>>148562045
The new rail laying interface doesn't have any of FARLs functionality. You still only lay 1 lane, have to place signals manually, etc. FARL puts down all lanes simultaneously (I use 8 lanes), and far faster than my bots can (and I have 7 personal roboports).
>>
>>148503108
what if I create an account without owning the game?
>>
>>148561898
>break point where it becomes better to use a train than pipes
Better in terms of what?
Throughput? Cost? Ease of use? Time spent installing or maintaining?

>>148561913
>advanced processing is more efficient overall
It has the potential to produce more petroleum gas, which is usually the most needed oil product.
Unless you're desperately in need of heavy oil, then advanced processing is preferred.

>heavy oil is turned into lubricant, and, when tanks are full, cracked to petroleum
Can't crack directly to petroleum gas, and it doesn't make sense to have separate cracking facilities for heavy->petgas and light->petgas
Cracking is the perfect introduction into Factorio's circuit network and combinators in general, as it benefits heavily from logic-controlled pumps.

>trains require too much infrastructure for oil transportation unless you have rail tanker mod
Oil transportation requires barely any infrastructure with vanilla trains and barrels.
Chances are that a single train with a single cargo wagon can cover your needs throughout the game.
If you're too much of a retard to set up sensible barreling/unbarreling stations, then you'll probably struggle with Factorio in general.

Oil stations are easy. Reserve half of each wagon for empty barrels and half for full. Use a filtered inserter to pull full barrels into a chest. That chest inserts into the assembler, which outputs into a chest that inserts empty barrels into the train.

You should do the math yourself, as it's likely the most effective method of illustrating how stupid your request is.
There's already documentation on pipe throughput as a function of distance, and you're free to simplify the fuck out of train throughput.

And they end up with dying petrochemical industry and few viable ways to save the day,
>>
>>148570996

To be fair oil is the most "difficult" resource you can extract. They require the most work, make the most advanced materials, and you get three resources that you need to balance. It's also the resource that benefits the most from combinators, which adds another layer of complexity to it.
>>
With modules a depleted well can produce 0.8/s. Unless you're building a fuckhuge megabase, oil isn't really an issue.

I just want someone to make a CPU in a game again, it's been years since the dwarfputer booted. If I find a game that actually runs well enough to do it I will, only fallout 4 would ever be able to use it for a reason and it still wouldn't be able to run properly. Should logic gates be significantly miniaturized, say to the tune of being able to fit 16 gates for every quarter wall panel (snapping, manual placement could allow for creative fitment), and significantly optimized to run ingame, you could build a 4bit CPU system the size of a small warehouse that you could hook up to your settlement's contraptions, factory, and power grid to control them. Your primary limitations are memory, transferable storage and your ability to use a tiny instruction set to interact with things.

>Building Bioships/stations/anything NEVER.
It's probably because you can't really make organics into modular chunks ala almost every /egg/ game ever without loosing some of that flowing one-thing-merging-into-the-next aesthetic. There would be seams and places where some parts don't come together smoothly that would hurt the aesthetics.

Organic stuff is anything but modular.
The difference between organic and inorganic building is modularity and universality.
Bioships and stations tend to be purpose-oriented. They are grown for specific task and excel at it. Essentially a product of artificial evolution with highest fitness for the job.
This is the reason why building bioships shouldn't be block-based. Laying down the organs you designed, marking interior rooms and corridors, then letting computer plan and place vascular and lymphatic systems, then cover it with endoskeleton that you can modify, and finally cover it with more flesh upon which you add decorations and organic armor.

I've got 3 oil patches that started at ~40%.
>>
>>148627774
Sometimes meatbag with grinder needs extra armor and/or decoys to approach target, but after approach grinder really is best weapon.

Btw how do I into grindership? Is it only viable inside huge closed hangar and/or very very carefully removing parts that won't make target fall apart and drift away at top speed? I've been dismantling some transports at my "lone survivor" platform and the only problem with hand grinder is limited inventory.

You've got plenty of everything aside from oil, so it'll likely end up as a massive bottleneck.
Only spend oil in something that'll in one way or another help you secure more oil - laser turrets and logibots are likely the more attractive options.

I'm in alpha too. Yeah, the grind is real + the fact that you can't just buy those "construction" parts and are limited to only handful of them with that level progression are the major problems.
The matchmaking is not so bad though, in my opinion. I like that when you finish the match, you don't have to repeat the queue and just stay to play another match.

King Tigers have that big cheese wedge front end which I tried to do. But theres a bunch of different tiger variants with and without the little bolt on armor plates over the top of the tracks.

Those little armor plates are hard to make look nice without more shapes.

I second what this guy said, a 1v1 dueling system is a nice fun idea, I've always wanted Robocraft to have something like that for testing purposes, but it's the shittiest premise for a main multiplayer gamemode. Why play tic-tac-toe when you could be playing global thermonuclear warfare.

for the keybinds, it's really hard to know if it successfully binded on a thruster or not. Maybe i'm just retarded and didn't read the instructions carefully, but a UI that shows all the binded thrusters would be cool

Also you would get more people on the podcasts if they weren't so long. Maybe they need to be long. Maybe a list with the times where you touch other subjects can be useful.

By any chance, are you familiar with Toribash?
>>
>>148642851
CLANG is simultaneously the god of both order and chaos.
>>
>>148705172
and neither at the same time.
>>
>>148703854
I'm familiar with it, multiplayer for Toribash is best kept at 1v1, and some games are like that. It works great on slower paced 'strategic' games, in a slow 1v1 strategy game you can take pleasure in logically and cleverly outsmarting your opponent at every possibility.
But REM is like the rest of the /egg/ games, you do your slow and strategic stuff in the design stage beforehand, after that the game is all about reaction time, quick thinking, and hopefully teamwork.

I guess I'll take back my statement, I can appreciate 1v1 fighting games and stuff but they're not my cup of tea.
REM however, is the exact type of game format that begs for well thought out large multiplayer games.

>>
>>148713502

;_;
>>
>>148713156

For the love of god dont.

If Robocraft was rated on a scale of shits, with 10/10 shits being the worst thing imaginable, then Crossout is an easy 100/10.

All the parts in crossout have durability, and they wear out, which means you have to constantly craft more of them as they wear out. Which then means you need to spend money to craft more parts. But oh fuuuuuck those parts you crafted wore out again. Better crack open your wallet to craft more goy! Hehehe!

And crafting parts of the next tier uses up parts from the previous tier. So to replace that fancy high tier gun you have, you have to craft a heap of other parts to sacrifice to that single gun. And that goes for all manner of other parts like wheels, weapons, and modules.

Crossouts grind is eternal.
>>
>>148714086
Actually, I'm not sure when you have played it last time, but you can use spare parts to fix your shit now.
Don't take me wrong, the game is still a grind, but atleast you don't have to grind forever to fix anything better than white items.

>Actually, I'm not sure when you have played it last time, but you can use spare parts to fix your shit now.

And thats still fucking bullshit.

>4 tiers of parts
>white = shit parts
>blue = okay parts
>purple = good parts
>orange = legendary parts

When you break down a part, it only gives you "spare parts" for that tier of parts. So if I scrap down my blue machine gun, I only get blue spare parts, which can only be used to repair other blue stuff.

And that means that you literally CANNOT repair parts unless you scrap parts of the same tier. And that sucks fucking dick if you have purple or orange parts, because that shits endgame and theres no way to repair them without just trashing more of the same parts, which is insane.
>>
>>148714567
That's why you don't scrap anything and just buy stack of spares from some dumb goy from the market.
>>
>>148714692

>That's why you don't scrap anything and just buy stack of spares from some dumb goy from the market.

And thats when the game turns to shit. You grind endlessly for copper in the boring as fuck PVE modes, so that you can sell it for shekels and buy those "spare parts".

Please stop trying to defend crossout. Its a horrible horrible game.
