His helmets are pretty good and you can use the laser pointer, light and in some cases the visor or UV eye-piece type things on any number of helmets. The Laser and light will fit almost every helmet, the visor/UV/Heads up displays work on some, not on others.

I'd just get the reinforcement pack for all three. If you change your mind mid campaign, and buy one of the DLCs which have a story mission, you won't get the chance to run through them(but still get the content)

Reverse-engineering Ayy tech with magic really can go anywhere: You start out slow with your reaction times to respond to the alien threat and limited to one or two castles in your kingdom but, as you recover more Elerium/Alloys/MELD you get to the point were time and space are on your side as you can get (and aid) to the other kingdoms with more and more quicker means. And you will need to help them and eventually arm them as well because the aliens will eventually escalate the invasion and you will be hard pressed to contain it all from your kingdom alone.

Yea, I do. I have 600 hours or so sunk into XCOM EW thanks to Long Dong, who's magnificence is still unrivaled. ABA tries, and does step up the vanilla game, but it just simply will not and cannot match the magnificence of long war. This is mostly due to the creator actually being a seemingly great guy with some semblance of balance!

Just to elaborate on what I mean, thanks to the expanded long dong camera, you could scan the map preemptively for objectives, and more importantly, meld! It was a huge tactic and was very relied on to have a steady supply of the stuff. JL eventually pushed out a patch for it, but said that in return he increased the meld timers. Want to know by how much?

He changed one of the numbers in the meld timer calculation formula from 1.5 to 1.55. The math was done, and this averaged out to add one turn to the meld timer per five missions.

Well it depends on a lot of things, like if you want to remove the overwatch from some Advent, or you want to enrage a berserker, or you need to remove supression, or there's something like an archon or a muton centurion or something that you want to kill asap, in those cases usually i take the best shot i can take first.

But when it's just a random firefight against typical advent, i usually just take the low percentage shots first, then the good ones, and i leave soldiers with guaranteed to hit abilities last, so things like psi and grenadiers.

I wondered the same thing so I did some investigation last week. With the release of xcom2, ufopaedia got way more visits then there servers could handle (apparently in combination with spam attacks) so for a bit, even the xcom pages were down. They eventually managed to acquire new servers and are now stable, but there is confusion currently in leadership and management. While the site was being spammed to death they turned off the sign up function that allowed people to create an account and modify the pages (like a normal wiki). The are currently trying to sort things out, get orgnaized, and get the user sign up function back up and running.

I'm currently monitoring the relevant forum thread and will let people know when user signups are once again allowed. Hopefully the X2 page can get up to speed with where the other wiki pages are shortly after.

My best advise is that you go to steamapps\common\XCOM 2\XComGame\DLC\DLC_2\Script and open the file there with notepad++, at first it'll look like junk that you can't open with notepad, but fret not, scroll down and you'll start seeing the usual .uc code, or you can just search for the ability i mentioned above to find it.

Or search for something like "ViperKing" to get to his character template.

In theory it might be possible to just slap that ability on lancers and have them go rules of nature on your ass.

Legendary with ABA++ and not created equal rookies and I have fielded two, both dying in their very first mission. Can't hit for shit, can't take cover, two measily armor.

And the best thing: I'll have to double check but I swear they have as much (as little) HP as one of my regular soldiers without the ability to take cover (and blast padding in LW2 means you can have a soldier with 2 armor to boot!)

I'm digging the Sharpshooter in the LW Perk pack.
Snapshot is on the first rank upgrade and rather than negating your aim on the second shot, it negates your aim on your squad sight range.

Once you go beyond 5 tiles squadsight you get severe aim penalties.
Turns the Sharpshooter into a DM or some such, they can trundle along with your squad while dishing out accurate, high powered fire.

I think specialist is the real issue here. They have to rank up 3-4 times before they go from marginally useful to actually useful. Instead of mech upgrades and then overwatch upgrades they should be alternating. I like the specialists tech gimmick too, wish it had a bit more use though.

Mag weapons would help early mid game, and counter dark events like extra armor, or when the enemy starts having armor. Lasers ease the transistion into late game.

Vanilla mag weapons have +2 damage. You're tier only is +1. It depends on what kind of percentages these "chances" to ignore/shred have, but if its not very high, then you're just dealing less damage. Also, plenty of enemies don't have armor, or only have one point of armor.

The difference 1 damage is surprisingly huge in xcom, just like giving an enemy even 1 more hp.

All memes aside, let's say you're the commander of XCOM and you've just overthrown ADVENT. You've taken back control of at least a good section of the planet. Which part is your choice.

The problem is, you have a large number of varying types of aliens and ADVENT troops that have either laid down arms and surrendered or have more or less stopped functioning, depending on type.

What do you do with all of them, now that the Ethereals have been killed off?

ADVENT can almost certainly be rehabilitated as workers or something. As they're likely incomplete minds, this may be all they are good for, so we'll give them a good existence helping humanity rebuild itself.

As for the ayylmaos, I probably imprison them, interrogate them for all they know about the greater Ethereal empire, and use whatever technological/scientific secrets they can share with me to prepare for the inevitable Ethereal retaliation from the stars (since it is made very very clear that they have an interstellar empire, so we're not off the hook just yet). If possible, I will recover any Ethereal bodies/capsules from the ocean floor and use them as bargaining chips/weapons during the next invasion.

Finally, though you didn't ask, I'd be putting mankind back on a wartime footing. The fight's not over, not until mankind is secure amongst the stars. XCOM will take the skies in defense of Earth. Vigilo Confido.

If I had to decide though myself? I know for sure that the ADVENT troops know that they're genetic monstrosities, and probably aren't too keen about that. Those who aren't willing to kill themselves, probably push them to be at the front of the rebuilding. As for the ayy's, maybe pull a Bureau and let them free after they provide assistance. All depends on if they're actually on Bureau tier(aka we're enslaved), or they're full on fuck you mode.

I start rounding up large groups of all alien species immediately to be put under 24/7 surveillance and to be researched.

More dangerous aliens are studied through dissection and more extreme methods to quickly determine if they are still a threat.

Any aliens where no definitive change in their behavior can be identified are immediately placed on a bounty boards and marked for extinction. Any aliens on this board can be killed by anyone, anywhere, in pretty much any way. Submitted evidence of the death of such specimens can be turned in for a flat reward.

Things like Berzerkers, lids, floaters, and gatekeepers would probably immediately go on the list. Rewards for killed lids would be higher then anything else.

The other aliens future would be more dependent on the outcome of the next couple weeks of research.

If ADVENT human hybrids could be rehabilitated, you would need to take a very strong stance in one direction. If they appeared to be intelligent and rational, keeping them alive but labeling them as 2nd class citizens would just lead to a future conflict. Hopefully I could shuffle the majority off to unoccupied space for eduaction and training, putting off attempts of immediate re-integration into society.

On the other hand they could be rounded up and killed, but that could also immediately lead to conflict if work gets out.
If they are not capable of independent thought, they would be exterminated.

Kill them all? Conflict in doing that, from both them and possibly humans. Less workforce too for the rebuild.

Force them to work? Conflict from humans, there'll be severe abuse shoved towards them, and generally it'll tend to be a shitshow on both sides. I wouldn't be surprised to hear events like an ADVENT trooper camp getting razed by their human colleagues, and the next ADVENT camp over smuggling in some kind of weapons to defend themselves.

Rehabilitate? Would humans be willing to accept them back in the first place? Where would they find themselves in society if they can be rehabilitated?

I'm running ABA with pods+, and suppression does see its uses when there's horseshit everywhere and an ADVENT Gunslinger is going to be using Faceoff. I took that perk that gives +50 aim and +50 damage for those who run the suppression and the overwatch perk for +10 aim and allowing crit, and it's basically an instakill for those who forget I'm suppressing them. On the chance they don't, that means everyone else around remains pinned down too(or until one decides to try their luck).

I'm also doing ABA++ play through with LW perks, and a balance squad, same exact as you, 2 grenadiers, 1 support one offensive, the offensive nades really aren't as great as they used to be due to the various nerfs they have received, and the fact that the AI doesn't bunch up as much even with larger pods.

My offensive grenadier has been nothing but disappointing, while my support one atleast pulls through with some frost nades/smokes/flashes. And my gunner has become a disgusting killing machine making me question why I bother to take other classes (other than assaults because BeO, 100% crit rapid fire, untouchable , CQC is fucking broken).

finally bought xcom2, started game and im on second mission and I can't deal with sectoid. I refuse to play on lower difficulty than 3/4 because I don't want AI gimped hardcore on normal mode but at the same time I don't want to deal with bullshit. I played longwar on xcom1 and it was very nice experience albeit just too long.

What mods to "fix" game and make it less bullshit? More strategy, less rush, less rng screwing you, more options, just more "fun".

On a serious note, I played on Ironman my first campaign until I ran into various bugs that killed more than half my squad, or wouldn't let me recover an unconscious soldier because the pickup location was glitched. Basically, if you're playing on Ironman now, stop. This game is still too damn buggy to trust with one save file.

Is it even possible to not trigger the ENTIRE FUCKING MAP AT ONCE when you use the ABA + ABA plus mods?

there's so many fucking ayys and they're so close to each other it's impossible to only get LOS on one pod at a time before all the rest of the ayys wandered into your squad's vision the next turn

Mission timer requires that maps be smaller and more compact, but that totally fucks up any mods that add more enemies and eliminate the max # of ayys that can be engaged limit because it's impossible to move in any direction without seeing a pod

Rangers should be renamed kamikaze when I use them. 2 ded out of 2 I had. Some rookie was mad enough to promote into ranger, he doesnt know whats ahead of him now. I got to admit sniper with squadsight is pretty amazing - he killed 2/3 of aliens on first terror mission I had.

So far my "play of the game" was when I had sniper on the roof, zombie moved next to him, I backed up into corner and threw grenade collapsing rooft under zombie and he got killed by burn damage over next turn, while sniper finished off sectoid winning me mission.

I've gotta say after adjusting tactics to how game works now - it's more fun than xcom1 was. Aliens play kinda aggressively and it feels okay as I don't think they value their own lives very much.

Knowing how to use the black market is essenital for commander+. If you use the leader pack, I suggest you train someone at least until he has the perk that makes dead enemies drop intel, since this gives you a nice +120 something bucks every month (it costs like 40 intel, you should be making anything between 10 and 20 a mission with that perk)

Yes, it really is that bad. I kicked SPARK-y into overdrive and took my first shot at it only for him and another trooper to be immediately frozen in response. It gets a free action every single time one of your soldiers uses an action point, whether that's shooting at something or reloading or taking a blue/yellow move.

I'll admit, I'm savescumming like a bitch right now to try and slay this thing on the spot rather than let it get away in its little portal thingie but jesus christ, a 60HP opponent with 2 armor and a rather high dodge chance isn't exactly the easiest target in the world to put down and now one of my soldiers has just demonstrated with his face that its Crossbow-gun isn't actually as weak as the ones being toted by its smaller comrades.

You get a free 'Frost Grenade' in a predetermined package that will completely freeze a unit for 3 turns, but of course as far as Rulers are concerned this just means they have to follow the rules like everyone else for three 'Ruler Reactions' until they can go back to doing their complete bullshit. Same goes for flashbangs, after three reaction-turns they'll no longer be disoriented, and apparently every reaction turn counts toward their cooldowns resetting too.

You tell me, all I can hope for is that you'll only get them on missions without one where you can at the very least afford to devote every effort to bringing them down.

On my first try with it on I walked into a Chrysalid Hunter-Killer Pod with a Chrysalid Queen, and my Tank SPARK got swarmed. They were fucking SHIELDED by an Elite Shieldshitter.

It was on a roof and managed to Plasma Shredder the ones below it, but then the Queen started spawning. I Blaster Bombed the ones below, and Aid Protocoled my SPARK. Alien turn, the SPARK was swarmed from all six directions by Chrysalids, and only enough defense and armor points managed to make them miss.

Next turn, I walked the SPARK away, and acid bombed the Chrysalid cluster. The Queen starts spawning, but after offing the highest HP Hunter-Killer with the SPARK, I get my Sharpshooter up there and Faceoffed them all to hell. It was INTENSE.

A turn later a Sectopod with infantry support showed up.

Does anyone else think that it's fucked up that the Tank tree on SPARKs is actually BETTER at damage dealing than the offense tree? You aren't ever going to have opportunities to use all three attacks and hope to hit, and the get-shot-get-points perk makes its gun actually not useless.

I almost got cucked, or maybe i did and i'm just not aware of it yet. But during one of my test runs my game started crashing with an error that cryptically said:

>Pure virtual function being called while application was running (GIsRunning ==1).

So my immediate reaction was "i broke something and i don't know what it was, panic!" but apparently it's some weird bug that was introduced with the shen dlc, and apparently after launching a different mission it stopped crashing. I just don't know, but i guess i'll figure it tomorrow.

I've gotten a very similar error too, I'd be looking at a weapon and attempting to choose a pattern fror it only for it to pop up weapon upgrade options when I'd try to pick something. If I then backed out and attempted to pick a weapon upgrade through the actual button for it, it'd crash with that message. Ended up just changing the look of my weapons through the soldier's customization menu, haven't gotten the error for anything else yet.

A turret surprised us, an ADVENT Medic refused to die to 3 90%+ shots, an ADVENT Titan just grenaded us (I didn't know they had grenades), two soldiers panicked, one died. It's a bad day for XCOM.

It gets worse, actually. Due to reinforcements, plus a pod walking into us from the rear, we lost Gordon too. We have three soldiers, all at 1-2 health, and a rookie. I'm honestly considering evac and leaving the panicking rookie here to die.

Final damage. We lost Gordon (I nicknamed him Lucksack since in the very first Guerrilla Op he hit like three shots at 35% or less) and Payne (who had a cool helmet). Kaczmarek gained the Assault class (not sure why he has a Gremlin over him).

Not a great mission.

Ok, that's the end of the night for me. I'm tired and have shit to do tomorrow. I'll be back though, if anyone is interested in watching a scrub lose at X2.

I did a few more things off-camera: opened three ADVENT Lockboxes, got a few meh weapons and a suit of meh armor; made contact with two more regions, completing Africa, our home region; did a little more customizing around the base; finished mag weapons and have started planning the purchase of Mag Rifles and Shard Guns, we're heavy on those weapons right now.

Current plan is to do a mission or two (hopefully a fucking supply raid), then hit Shen's mission and grab a SPARK. From there, grab Predator Armor, suit the team up, and then hit the Ayylmao Kangs mission and get the Rulers in play.

If anyone's got any suggestions, tag them to this post (even across threads, since we're about to autosage) and I'll see them in the morning when I check the thread(s). Also, still open to new soldiers (I'll try to not get them killed, like Kelly; Webb's still alive though).

Finally, I've been vaguely considering setting up some kind of stream, now that my PC can handle it. Does /xcg/ have any interest in such a thing or is Bagel enough for you guys?

I do enjoy the recaps, but the thing is keeping a stream going is more than recaps. Keeping people engaged when things aren't as intense is pretty vital too.
