Then why do so many people say Saizou is the best Ninja because of le Mag and Def growths? The thing is, those extra penalties are generally not very meaningful. Pursuer has the same power all the time, unlike Aurgelmir. Pursuer does a better job because it doesn't lose any power and the penalty shouldn't really come into play. Chakram is kinda similar, except it has debuffs and a greater range of effectiveness. Excalibur is a bit like Chakram but worse because no debuffs.

Niles/Setsuna is a parallel class pairing like a lot of cross pairs that don't have their parallel as a friendship seal option. See: Oboro/Benoit, Hana/Laslow, Odin/Orochi, Selena/Hinata, etc. It's just there so they can have class synergy.
