Help. I recently started playing Awakening after not having played a FE game in a good decade or so. I picked hard classic mode and I'm getting my ass kicked way too much. I've lost a unit 5 times in a row in the 4th map (the one with the fort where you need to get a key) which has caused me to replay the same map 5 times now, and I'm less than an hour into the game!

Should I continue, does it get easier as you gain some levels or start over without classic mode?

Hard Awakening is still a pretty easy game. If you're losing people there, you're probably not taking the time to figure out how much punishment your units can take. Give Frederick a weaker weapon and let him tank enemies while letting everyone else pick off wounded enemies

For example Frederick so far has taken 0-3 damage from every hit, no more and suddenly gets one shot from full health vs a mace user. a 1000% increase in damage taken just because of a weakness, seems pretty extreme.

Eh, I disagree. I found that reversing their roles with Hector being the more levelheaded one and Lyn being the one itching to fight was pretty interesting.

Even then, they have more than enough in-story interactions to make up for it and their special scene in the last level was pretty good.

Just did Chapter 5 for the first time first attempt which will impress absolutely no one here. Now I made the choice for Hoshido but Felicia turned up. Wasn't she a Nohr person? Also, motherfucker, Sakura died again for the 2nd battle running. Azura also died because I ran in to the boss with MU, missed a ~75% OHKO chance, so used her to Dance, then he missed the same thing again, leaving him with 2HP. Fortunately Mystery Cloak Man killed Azura instead of MU.

Because I needed to do that to Dance for Corrin. I didn't think he'd miss ANOTHER 75% chance right after the last time. Sakura died because there was no way for her to heal Kaze (who would have died if she didn't) without her dying in the process.

On this map, Kaze paired with Rinkah took about 3 hits to kill anything (assuming the enemy didn't randomly dodge or block for each other). Dragon MU would OHKO most things but the Wyrmblade people would OHKO him. If I split Kaze and Rinkah, she was fucking useless and did about 3 damage to enemies while also getting killed in just over one hit. He wasn't much better though at least he has range.

I barely used Kaze in chapter 4 because the whole mission was running slowly after the enemies as Ryoga and Hinoka killed them all in one hit. Besides, Kaze also got wrecked by the enemies in that mission (yes, paired with Rinkah). He wouldn't even kill them in one attack, he'd weaken them and then Ryoga would kill them.

As for the "triggered" meme, I'm simply explaining that you guys live and breathe this and seem to totally lose perspective on how it is for people that don't.

Even on Lunatic I had an easy time with the Dark Mages with Kaze, though if he gets strength screwed I can see how that part can be an issue. In any case, at least you don't have to worry about anyone but your Dragon going down on that map, since they either come back the way you left them or don't come back at all.

Speaking of dragons going down, apparently Kana still gets recruited even if defeated in dragon from on their map, which is one less thing to worry about when trying to do it on Lunatic.

man, these were just trial maps. You need to step up your game.

Press the X button to see the whole enemy range and then mark the enemies relevant to you, the key is to never, ABSOLUTELY never let either Azura nor Sakura (don't use her, though, she sucks, stick to Felicia) on the enemy range by the end of your turn.

Even then, you can beat the map quite easily without using Kaze either by just using Azura, Sakura and Corrin.

Healers are one of the last units you'd want to sacrifice. Kaze was doing nothing for you, as you said, so sacrificing him was a more sound option than sacrificing Sakura, who could help plenty by patching up Corrin. Corrin doesn't die in one hit from Wrymslayers either, he just gets fucked up a bit.

The purple one reflects things as immediately, if you moved someone who was blocking the enemy range after healing with Sakura then she's gonna get hit. That's why you should mark a few closer enemies with Red.

Corrin WOULD get OHKO by the wyrmslayers. It sounds like you just got luckier with his level ups earlier. I got 2 level ups where only 1 stat went up. I think one time it was Res, can't remember another. So he was seriously undermined there; the dark mages would kill him in about 3 hits (though that wasn't a huge problem) wheras the wyrmslayers would one-shot him and the boss just about halved his HP.

Azura and Sakura would get OHKO by just about anyone, pretty sure - maybe not the dark mages (who, again, weren't really a problem as I could OHKO them with Corrin). So I was in this weird position of Corrin being vulnerable as fuck, Kaze being vulnerable as fuck, and the two support characters not really being able to contribute without putting themselves in the way of a OHKO. I still did it, as you know, but it was pretty gruelling for the aforementioned reasons.
