Dev here. I didn't properly explain that you need to use the hill to gain more momentum for that jump. Going back, I changed it so there's nothing to land on there, so instead, you just die and go right back to where you should start running from. Go to the edge of the ladder and run from there.

Cool, I'll redownload the game off the Demo Day page and give it another go. I like the game so far it feels good to play, the climbing is a little sticky and the wall jump is hard to pull off. The gun doesn't shoot but I think you know this. I like the character design, especially the head.

hey, yeah I played it too, recorded it but then lost the video. I didn't have any trouble getting to the end of the game but I generally enjoy obstacle courses

I commend you on having physics-y movement without it being cripplingly bad or frustrating (see cortex command)

level design was good, and mechanics were introduced at a comfortable pace. I also liked that there were multiple routes to choose from

there's not enough art for me to comment on but if you keep to the "sunset/sunrise in a scrapyard" setting then it should look pretty good. be very picky with colors. I cant' really tell what the character is or is wearing, though

I think it looks really good and it definitely has that old school vibe which a lot of games really fail to capture. Thinking that “Retro” graphics is synonymous with crappy. I think this is probably the best looking sprite game in terms of a really cohesive style and quality I played.

I like the sound and the song fits with the theme.

Problems
I died a couple times because I got stuck biting people where they exit the house and it locked me down for the Vampire Hunter to hit me. It’s kind of annoying because you get into scenario’s where there is literally nothing you can do to get out of it. I kind of get that you want the delay when biting someone, but I think you may want to put a temporary stop on the vampire hunt that’s equivalent to your delay, just so you can’t get locked down into patterns like that.

Honestly, I think the biggest hurdle is where you go from here gameplay wise. At 30 people you need to get 2 people/second which is just simply unreasonable, especially if you continue to go higher.

It may just be a bit too basic. You probably need some power ups, different villager types, maybe multiple hunters, and obviously more levels.

I think the problem with these sort of games is there isn’t really much lasting appeal anymore. You kind of play it once for awhile, then you get bored and forget about it, which I think is a really real concern.

I did have the audio track cut out on me. I guess it’s because it doesn’t loop for the full 60 seconds or something.

Other than that I liked it, but I think you need to get a more robust game going. Expand upon the basics you’ve got.

Thanks. The physics are built for platforming, as opposed to being crazy detailed physics. And yeah, was going for a well paced tutorial that didn't overload the player. A lot of mechanics are still untouched in the demo, but functional, like wall jumping, sliding, and then the gun and bombs for bomb jumping.

As for the art, it's definitely still a work in progress. I'm hoping to get it smoothed out. Not minimalist, but less noisy.

I'll try.

I completely understand that your entry is a demo, and as such in many ways unfinished. This can be forgiven if your project shows off some kind of gimmick or gameplay mechanic that is unique or catches my interest. Unfortunately, it doesn't. You can still potentially make a fun game out of it, but it won't really stand out.
I don't know your "creative vision" for this game, but take a moment to think what will make your project unique. I would be interested to hear.

What I think you should tackle next is player movement.

Since the player has stamina, I think a heavy attack would be good to have.
A jumping attack should also be included (pressing attack mid-air basically).
And while we're at it, add a special attack just after rolling and while sprinting.
Maybe add a mechanic where you can hold the jump button to charge your jumps for higher jumping at the cost of stamina. (Maybe the same for attacks?)
Make the player do a dive roll if he jumps while rolling.

I'm sure you can come up with more things. Give the player a variety of moves he can learn.
I think player movement goes a long way in creating good gameplay.

I really think you have the ability to make a fun game out of this, it all depends where you go from here.

Added another boss. Many of its stats are the same as the player's, and it also has the ability to use items.
The health bar disappears when he's not on the screen because it's part of his render function, when he's off the screen he gets culled so it doesn't display. Still trying to think of a workaround for this, my code structure is pretty horrible.

Flash is just a runtime. There are many toolkits that export a SWF, and using Flash proper means you can only ever export a Flash game. Which may be fine if you have a contract with Kongregate, but seems like a terrible idea in almost any other scenario.

If you're only familiar with ActionScript, Haxe has identical syntax and exports to native desktop applications, flash, HTML5, Android/iOS, etc.

I agree that the combat has nothing going for it right now, and that transitional attacks for things like jumping and running are a must to keep it smooth.

I've been wondering between a small set of weapons with all the different moves like you suggested and a large variety of weapons with limited move sets and allowing the player to equip 2 or 3 at the same time to combo between.

Another thing I'm considering is some kind of power up system when you successfully dodge attacks/don't get hit for a long time, that and heavy attacks that leave you vulnerable for long time would possibly be pretty fun to play with.

I'm going to be experimenting with those ideas for the next 2 months and I hope the next demo will have something if not unique, at the very least fun.

Your Demo has a glitch that allows the user to input a key while the game is paused. This way it is easily possible to 100% the song by pausing at the exact moment the button is under the marker and pressing the corresponding key (if you're autistic enough to do this).

Cool, thanks for the comments (New New Sorpigal). I think almost everything you said is stuff I want to address at one point. I've thought a bunch about properly displaying health/damage, interacting, hotkeys, and stuff, but mostly just focused on getting raw features in now.

I definitely released too early because a couple people had said they were interested in trying it. So I tried doing an extremely quick/rough balance pass and just throwing out what I had without much more. In the end though I think it's good because I get to hear stuff like this and see what's totally confusing/annoying to people early on so I don't waste time polishing things that are bad later.

It's got a kind of free-form Legend of Grimrock vibe and I don't know if that works.

It just seems like it cycles through your party which seems to encourage mashing E since there isn't any cooldowns or anything on attacks, just cycling through.

You probably need a bigger font size, it's not very easily readable.

I can see it working, but it's going to feel kind of odd, since yuo're in FPS view with a 4 person party but no way of knowing the orientation of your party (you know, grimrock style).

It's just kind of bland right now. Everything feels really sterile. I don't know how you'd make improvements to things like mashing through text but it needs to be more refined.

I didn't find it particularly interesting, but I'm not huge on these kind of RPG's and it's clearly early in development.

New ranged unit. Direct range, only fires straight ahead. Manuevering it into postion can take the whole turn.

When you walk off a platform you can jump then jump again.

So that may be something to look at. I imagine you're holding number of jumps as a variable that gets decreased when you jump, but you probably need to decrement it when its full and a character falls.

Simple UI based post-apocalyptic town management game.

Basically a FTL clone but focused more on building/maintaining a massive colony ship over generations than combat.

A debater game: A turn based RPG except instead of an element system, it's a tone system. For example Impassioned arguments beat Logical ones. Logical arguments beat Misleading arguments, and Misleading type arguments beat Impassioned ones, etc.

MMO guild management game. I was thinking just a modified rip-off of Gamedev 3 since those mechanics were perfect and very graphically light.

If anyone wants to give it a try I'd really appreciate people attempting to run it on android. It works great on all my devices but one whodev can only have so many devices, so I am on the hunt to find if any android versions/models give it the NOPE.

Windows version is included for people who don't give a fuck and just want to play game.
