I just now beat BAW so I was on a witcher media blackout over spoilers, missed out on all the discussion. what's the general consensus on BAW vs HOS?

In short, BaW had a better world and side quests, HoS had a better story.

They were both still loved though and BaW in general was really massively hyped and got good ratings everywhere. Imo after HoS it was a bit of a let-down in the story department, but clearly I'm in the minority so meh.

I have to do a school project that consists solely of making a trailer for a book. I'm doing it about the Witcher books but i have no idea about what to make it. What kind of short story would you do /vg/?
>>
>>147942468
The ones involving Ciri, it really gives a super emotional response. And it has a happy ending in the short stories too!
>>
>>147943421
Hmn.. I planned on doing some sort of contract or something like in the cinematic trailers but that could work too
>>
>>147942468
Just do a fight between Geralt and three-person gang which hunts Yen and Ciri in Blood of The Elves, if I remember correctly. The head of the gang was "Professor", and Geralt cut them all to pieces and then said to the bartender "If ever you will see any comrades of these bandits asking about their fate... Then tell them they got bitten by a White Wolf"
>>
>>147939289
What's the general consensus on Enemy Scaling though? Is it recommended for a new player for a completionist playthrough?

>>147942468
I'd draw a few scenes in minimalistic style, then use a similar zooming effect and subtitles like the game does to create motion.
>>
>>147944204
fuck no. Leave that shit. The game is good without lvl scalling and I have no idea why actually they implemented it. It fucks the game in a few places - a LOT of people talk about stupid RATS being unbeatable on higher difficulty lvls. Also one guy had problems with Djinni when he was 7 lvls higher than the quest... And for me Djinni was fuckin' easy when I played without any lvl scalling.
>>
>>147944412
>The game is good without lvl scalling

Okay then. Any solution for the "underlevelled quest rewards" issue? I tend to play slowly and explore every single corner before advancing the main plot even further. It just feels natural to take a breath every once in a while instead of chasing some pre-defined goal like a maniac 24/7.
>>
>>147944412
they added it because people had been complaining about how easy it was to get overleveled and lose the challenge since release. honestly they should have just scrapped the whole concept in development and replaced it with proper scaling from the start that's tweaked not to screw the player over in stupid ways
>>
>>147944761
If you walk around and grind the game then why are you surprised that you get overleveled?

That happens, of course, but when I played it I did ALL the sidequests I could before main quests (mostly in order in which game tells you to - as you have quest lvl in your journal, I did lowest lvl sidequests first) and you know what? My challenge didnt dissapear. Bosses and unique monsters often were a challenge even if I was few lvls above them.
They were easier, of course, than if I would go to them being equal in lvl, but they still can kill you in few seconds if you arent careful.

And about weak rewards - well, just play further and be happy you have good equipment, you will find better one eventually, not every quest has to give you new best sword or armor, right?

This game is made in a way that your character is mostly a glass cannon. If you're good with dancing around, you can kill everything, it's just a matter of patience. But if you do it and break your own experience then you have only yourself to blame.
>>
>>147945703
same person, continuing:
Equipment system in this game is specific and I agree that it could be made other way. But as it is you will mostly have best equipment you can for your lvl and that's that. If you dont, something will drop quick. If you have - then you will find shit, as already you've got the best you can. It's just like that.

And about quests - it's made to give you a choice. You don't have to do everything to be able to finish the game. Sounds like common sense, right?

So that's the ,malus. If you DO everything, then you WILL get overleveled. It's that or that.

But seriously, I didnt notice being overleveled to be a serious problem which devoids the game of challenge.

Damn, I don't know how high lvl you have to be for the Arachasae to be easy enemies. They attack in horde, can immobilize you, poison you, and their attacks do a lot of damage.

Damn, in this game dogs can be serious threat.
>>

>>
>>147945703
>>147946430
>all these uncalled implications and unnecessary tone

Either way, thanks for the detailed posts. Maybe I should have worded better but grinding is not my thing, I merely do what feels natural and try to grab every opportunity to earn a little extra. I'm currently replaying W2 and comfortably finished both Floatsam and the area around the Camp in literally 3 in-game days each.

Sounds like I have nothing to be worried about in W3 though, despite the whining about certain issues here and there. And since I wanted to play it without absolutely any guide or tips or anything whatsoever, it was important to know that my time not going to be wasted by unfortunate game design. Again, thanks for the input!

Cliche: The Videogame

>>147948136
They would be more interesting if CDPR wouldnt change them. Their elite troops were called Red Riders - so no sauronese black typical villain armor. Also, Wild Hunt was an illusion which they used when they wanted to steal people for their experiments - humans were afraid of the army of undead galloping through the heavens, so there was no reaction.

In books they were only interested in more lebensraum for their kind and slaves. And they treated Ciri as their property, as she was effect of their own genetical experiments (which got fucked up when their special genetic lamb, Lara Dorren, gave her ass to filthy human)
>>
something about the crones questline just blows me away, their design alone is fucking stellar

now if only the antagonist was of this quality instead of wild hunt being scary space elfs

Just finished Witcher 3, what a fucking ride. Honestly the best game I have ever played, but now I feel empty inside.
Going to grab one of the expansions soon, should I go for HoS or just straight for B&W?
Also, any games to temporary fill the hole untill I get the DLC?
>>
>>147950202
Do HoS first, then B&W.

Which ending did you get?
>>
>>147950202
HoS first. I wozld say that it is arguably better written than the main quest of the base game. It's a quick 10 hour DLC with very memorable moments quests and characters. The main characters Olgierd von Everec and Gaunter O'Dimm are fantastically written. Also, B&W is supposed to be Geralt's last quest, so playing HoS first is mire logical

>>
If the Northern Kingdoms are supposed to be fictional poland, why are so many character and location names German?
>>
>>147949080
Sorry for the tone, I just have the feeling that people are trying to find a problem which I didnt feel at all when I played. And I really tried to do everything that's possible in this game, I am big fan of Witcher universe. And I'm rather a strict person, so if the game was bad or had problems I would be first shouting with anger about that. Like I shout a lot about Fallout 4. I loved old fallouts and DAMN I AM ANGRY about what bethesda made with this universe.

And when I'm thinking about overleveling this game... Well... I find it hardly possible. W3 does not give you experience for enemies (i think?), only for quests. And a lot of sidequests give a very symbolic exp rewards (like 8 points, while amount for next lvl is always 1000)... The biggest exp rewards are for main quests, they can give even a two or three lvls for one quest. depending on how powerful you already are.

>>
>>147951973
Actually nothing is based at all. The crest was made by CDPR and all Poland references are ours alone.
Sapkowski never said he based it on anything and never made any graphic material. I think he did describe Redania's coat of arms as eagle, but well, there's a lot of countries which have this animal in their crests and it does not mean it's exactly like Poland.

>>147951979
Yeah, Olgierd's old residence was pretty sad place. I felt for that ghost, damn.

>>147949080
You don't need any guide for playing it. Just get along for the ride. And don't get angry when you don't get the best possible outcome for everything - that's the game is about. It's not a modern rpg in which you cannot make any mistake - here you really CAN fuck things up if you dont think and listen - and that's were the fun is. Your first walkthrough does not have to be perfect.

There's no way you can make a game impossible to finish anyway, if you fuck something up someone will die, someone will suffer, but it does not block you in any way ever.
Choices will be hard and you will be in doubt, And that's exactly how it should be, DONT check the consequences on the internet before making decisions. You will be surprised and you will have fun.

>>147952106
great pic : D

>>147952535
That depends on you. Olgierd is not a moral person. He left his wife and made her suffer, and her only fault was that she loved him strongly. He killed and maimed and found fun in it. He was more interested in playing around than anything else.

>>147952886
Dont, you will freeze to death

And yes, Witcher's are widely hated. Theyre a dying relict of ancient times, in which humans had to fight for every inch with monsters. Most people fear and despise them because theyre different and from ordinary folk' point of view insanely powerful.

not to mention rewardwise saving monsters was always the better option even if they slaughtered an entire village

somehow the concept of being a witcher (no emotions and shit) has gotten forgotten midgame
>>
>>147955701
Yeah, I didnt like Scoia'tael, but I still found it strange that Iorveth does not show his face.
>Fuck Iorveth, I want Isengrim Faolitiarna, who was called Iron Wolf. Shame he was killed for warcrimes in the books

Shani was just a one-time fuck in the books, just a student of medicine who was fascinated with our witcher. Also fucking her made Dandelion (who was her friend) confused and that's the only time i think in which Geralt outfucked his musical friend

And Dijkstra for my personal taste was made just fantastic. In the books he is shown as VERY inconspicuous person, and I think it's greatly visible in the game, as he surprises you a lot with his knowledge and keen thinking.
Still, the part in which he wants to kill Roche and Thaler was kinda stupid, I suppose CDPR needed to tie loose ends and were out of ideas how to make it climatic.

>>147956810
No. Other schools are only in the games, in the books they're mentioned only few times and without any specifications. I remember only one reference, and that was when Bonhart wanted to scare Ciri and has shown her his medallions (she said to him that Geralt will find and kill him) - three witcher's medallions, for each one he killed. There was a Wolf, Cat and a Griphon.

Books tell that the secret of making witchers is long lost with the mages who made them (and they were killed by religious fanatics. Kaer Morhen was besieged and taken, and all people inside slaughtered - most witchers were in the wild at the time though)
>>
>>147957759

Well shit, a few years more and there could be no witchers anymore. Who will kill all of those big ass monsters that regular humans fear to even see?
Maybe they'll start to make witchers again then.

>>147957803
The thing with Dijkstra at the end was pretty retarded yea, probably wanted to make the build up to the end more epic
I mean who would leave his good friends to die just so that a crippled retired spy can rule a kingdom.
>>147958293
How do you explain what Geralt said after Vesemir died then? Something like: can't cry, dunno how.
>>
>>147958554
>can't cry, dunno how.
he meant that literally, the mutations changed his physiology so he's unable to cry
>>
>>147958554
>Books tell that the secret of making witchers is long lost with the mages who made them

I think that at one point in the books its mentioned that kaer morhen is still stocked with grasses and mutagens so technically they'd be able to make a new witcher but I figure it would be far more dangerous than it even normally it is

They'd have to get a wizard involved to start making new witchers again and wizards are fucking cunts

Besides the whole theme is that theres less and less monsters and witchers are becoming obsolete
>>
>>147958820
While being translated to english the sentence lost it's meaning
In polish he says that because he's a witcher he doesnt have emotions and does not know how to cry
>>
>>147959145
I think it makes a lot more sense in English honestly. Why would Geralt bother with that bullshit "no emotion" stuff to Ciri just after Vesemir died?
>>
>>147959145
then he's bullshitting because most of the books and games are about him getting into trouble because of his emotions
>>
>>147958874
>Besides the whole theme is that theres less and less monsters and witchers are becoming obsolete
where do you get that from?

the game itself was creating a rather worrying future
way too few witchers left, vesemir ded (still dont understand why they killed him off, i mean i understand that the old wise guy always dies in american movies but come the fuck on) and honestly there is very little the world knows about monsters compared to witchers

so nobody to rebuild the school, other schools ded too
>>
>>147959381
>>147959145
This no emotion stuff is VERY inconsistent in the games anyway. Lambert is bitter yet cares deeply for his witcher bros, Geralt has about as many emotions as any normal human has and Vesemir is also seen showing grandfatherly love for Ciri. Yet Letho is a prime example for emotionless witchers. The two cat school witchers you can kill during W3 are also emotionless. It seems the good guy witchers have emotions for the sake of the story
>>
>>147957759
Yeah, the "it's not always the monsters who are really bad" theme is a important in the books.

And the concept of no emotions for witchers is kinda mixed. Geralt can surely get angry or sad, he does that in the books (Shard of Ice). He can definitely love. But he does react a lot more calm than normal people would. Books kinda make it like you're not sure if the "no-emotion" part is true or just a myth (one of the other myths popular among the folk is that the witcher will fuck everything that moves)
I dont ask how saving monsters is better reward-wise.

Also, Witchers are almost immortal. They can die from their wounds, but they age A LOT slower than normal people.

Actually Vesemir is really old - he is (was) the last of the people who remembered making witchers. He couldnt restart the process though, as he was only a swordfighting teacher.

>>147958554
Books suggest that normal humans were able to fight most of the monsters if they attacked them en masse. Witchers were just an ultimate weapon, a wunderwaffe, if you like, a way to make human domination assured.

>>147958874
yeah, they do, and they mention also that there is no person alive which would have any idea how to use that equipment.

And proccess of making a witcher killed eight boys out of ten, so think what could happen if someone would try to go "try-and-miss" on that.
>>
>>147959508
Well he does have emotions, maybe not as many or as strong as humans do, but he does feel love, I mean if he didnt felt anything he would not bound himself with yennefer right?
>>
>>147959892
>(one of the other myths popular among the folk is that the witcher will fuck everything that moves)

but it's true in the first game, when he was full amnesia mode so it might be true, at least in games

>>
I just think that emotions are suppressed, but not killed off completely.

>>147960174
Yeah, that's true in the books too. Still, there's an instance in which folk get an old book written in elfish language (they cant read, but they have an old hag which has memorized everything that is in the book and gives that knowledge to the next girl when she is close to the grave) which describes monsters and there is a page about witchers, which tells exactly "hide all your women and dont get tricked as witchers will try to trick you all the way, though there is no problem the witcher cant solve"

>about monster more or less plentiful
Its more like that: witcher made the world more or less safe for people. Yeah, still somebody more or less often will get horribly mutilated, but you don't have to defend your village day and night from the monsters anymore.

So as it is like that, people dont need witchers anymore. There were religious attacks on them (I wrote earlier about siege of Kaer Morhen), the secret of making them was lost and what witchers are left are dying out.

And as witchers are dying out, monsters are getting more and more space to multiply. Less witchers > more monsters. You know, ecology.

The Wild Hunt and Ciri were explained during cutsxenes in Witcher 2. Basically Geralt regains his memory during W2 and also learns about both Ciri and the Wild Hunt.

Just imagine, a higher vampire starts to do some fucked up things, something like in tw3 in Novigrad, the withers have all died out and only thing the villagers are able to do is to call the militia that can't do shit.
They will have to start making more witchers, or think about some other solution.
>>
>>147961213
there's at least 2. One by the cemetery, protected by a wraith and one by the south road near a bridge(IIRC), protected by a Bear.

You can die at the start of TW2 if you're not careful talking to Roche, should the games just have ended there?
>>
>>147961325
I just said fuck it and wound up doing all of them. There's actually 4. One in the cemetery protected by a wraith. One on the battlefield where the monster nest is. One northeast of Sawmill and directly west of Mill, protected by another wraith. Then one directly south of Broken Bridge, protected by a big ass, tough bear.

Still got 2 more points to do but I highly doubt they're places of power.
>>
>>147962423
you can also die if you're an asshole to Iorveth
>>
>>147962479
I did every single one in the entire game and only regret the ones in Skellige. The '?' In White orchard are actually some of the better ones
>>
>>147961213
No, you do not need a guide. You dont need to max out this game, this is not dark souls. Just play it and have fun. Nothing bad will happen if you wont explore all of white orchard or wont find all the places of power. There's nothing you can miss which could make game harder or unbeatable.

Still, all interesting places in the game are marked on the map with "?". You get the "?" on the map after looking at the rooster boards.
>>147961307

If they dont murder all the mages then a mage can defend them pretty well. It's told in Lesser Evil that defence of the town from the monsters was one of the duties of resident wizard.
Still, he didnt fight the monsters, he would just use magic to make them go away.

But yeah, that's what its about. People were slaughtered, so they made witchers. Witchers won the war, people got to live peacefully and forgot about the dangers, so they disposed off the witchers. As there is no witchers, monsters are gaining ground and soon people will regret it VERY MUCH.

>>147962479
Have fun, do not try to min max. All "?" are worth looking at, as there is often nice equipment there.
>>
>>147962247
Or just make a simulation of choices like tw 3 did with tw 2, but do not make a dead Ciri a choice

also what's a good deck early on? that skellige bitch in Crow's nest is tearing my ass apart with that monster deck of hers
>>
>>147963081
Just grab as many special cards as possible and bring lots of spies
I always played with northern realms, just throw some shitty cards and spies at the first round to make the enemy lose cards and then hit him hard in the second round.
They usually dont have any cards left in the third round. Never lost after I started using this strategy
>>
>>147963081
Whatever you do, don't play Scoiatael or Monsters. Northern realms is the best one. Also do yozrself a favor and don't use wheather cards. You only need biting frost for monster decks other than that they are useless. Also use the 2nd foltest card as your leader card, it means you don't need any clear wheather cards either
>>
>>147963006
Yeah, that's true.

>>147963081
Buy yourself some cards from the bartenders and try to win some from common people. After some time you will build a deck (Northern Kingdoms is the easiest to build and play) and learn how to kick ass. Yes, that girl is a pretty hard opponent, but you can always come for her later (You will anyway, as she is the best blacksmith in the game without dlc's if I remember correctly. She makes armor, the best swordsmith is elf in Novigrad). Also, you will find much harder opponents later in the game.
>>
>Crafted items auto-regenerate after meditating if you have alcohol

Pretty lame but kinda nice at the same time.
>>
>>147963081
Try to do all gwent quests so you get the hero cards. Also, spies and tight bond cards are your friends. Northern realms have the better spies and tight bond cards.
>>
>>147963769
avoids the grind a bit.
>>
Also, as most of you havent read the books, I have a revelation for you
>The Witcher's world isnt humanity homeworld.
>It's the planet of the gnomes. After them dwarves have shown themselves and no one exactly know from where, maybe they coexisted
> elves came on white ships from the West and it's not their world either
> humans came here one thousand years after the elves, during conjuction of the spheres (just like the monsters). Also, they have known no magic prior to entering this world. It's also implied that they destroyed their previous world
>>
>>147961325
Welp I was wrong. There was another one for a total of 5 places of power. Glad I went through it all, those 5 points are a pretty big deal.
>>
>>147963769
It saves you a lot of time spent looking for ingredients like in tw 2
I never used potions in tw 2 just because you have to meditate to use them and it was a pain in the ass to make them.
Here it's just make it once and you have it forever. It kind of makes sence honestly
>>
So, just finished Blood and Wine for the first time. Anna and Syanna both lived, was there any way to ensure Regis didn't need to kill Detlaff?
>>
>>147964184
>t was a pain in the ass to make them.

How so? Herbalist's gloves is part of starting equipment since patch, but even without it it's easy to pile up from the most important herbs. Throw the Harvester talent (+1 ingredient) into the mix and you'll never have to worry about vast majority of potions.
>>
>>147963974
they wont matter in the long run, soon you will be swimming in skills you cant use because you have limited space to equip them.
>I actually though that to be stupid design decision and modded it for all skills to be always active, though had to delete the mod as it clashed with Blood and Wine

Also, about Gwent:
>When you will have a lot of cards throw out the weaker ones from the deck as you will get random ten cards out of the deck in every game. Try to have as few cards as possible in the deck and make them to be the strongest you can (so randomizer will give you strong cards each time)
> use a lot of spies and dummies. You can use a dummy to steal a spy enemy throws at you. You can use a dummy to take back used medic card and throw it again on the battlefield and it's skill will work second time (however not all skills work that way). Well used dummies can be strongest cards in that game.
>>
>>147964810
Congratulations, you got the best ending.
>>
>>147965072
But the fact that you can only use them while meditating out of combat made them all useless for me, with the exception of cat potion
>>
>>147965170
Nilfgaard is the best because of that. Gwent is 100% card advantage, and Nilfgaard has the most card advantage because of the 5-6 medic cards and the OP leader ability that allows you to steal one card from their discard pile.

Play a spy, then in the next turn you have a guaranteed spy to play again.
>>
>>147965170
To add onto the dummies thing, dummy+scorch is just brutal, especially against monsters.
>>
>>147965448
you mean decoy + villenthretenment.
>>
>>147965693
Yea, that.
>>
>>147965170
>they wont matter in the long run, soon you will be swimming in skills you cant use because you have limited space to equip them.

not true. Due to the requirement to unlock higher tiers of skills, you need every point you can get even if you won't actually use the skills you unlock.
>>
>>147965352
I don't know, it has never been an issue for me. Durations could have been longer though - speaking about Cat, I had to consume 4 or 5 to clear out the Tunnel of the Founders and finally get the Blood Sword. But since there's a specialization for that (+10% / +40% duration) in the Alchemy tree for that ...
>>
>>147965693
not only the dragon has that power. However I thought I checked that and it didnt work for second time, but maybe I remember wrong.

>>147965835
Well, I suppose it's true, however it's not like you will have any problem to get the last tier skills from at least two trees.
>>
>>147965987

He's a mage, a really power full mage.
Witchers not made to fight mages.

in Thanedd he beat Geralt in melee combat though, no visible spells. That should be a witcher's field.

Mages in Witcher universe have near godlike power. Of course he could buff himself with spells. Even the rod he uses is not real, he made it from thin air just before fight.

>>
>>147969456
Well, You've got an invasion aby Nilfgaard. The first one, after that is the second. That one in the games is third.

Anyway, Northern Realms would lose it hard if not for the mages. They (exactly one of them, some guy called Vilgefortz from Roggeveen, who could he be?) forced the northern kings to make an alliance and to stand their ground at Sodden Hill. Also he took few mages there (few dozens, maybe? Thirteen of them fell there). Battle was bloody and terrible, but was won by northerners thanks to the mages. Both Yennefer and Triss took part in that battle. Yen lost her eyesight, Triss lost her hair, which made everyone to believe her to be fourteenth fallen mage (as everyone recognized her because of her beautiful hair and people who knew her died in the battle and Yen was blind). She even got the nickname Fourteenth from the Hill. Also she got something fucked with her tits so hard that even the magic couldnt cure it, but game developers pissed on it with warm stream and gave her a cleavage anyway, ignoring herself specifing in the books that she will never wear it anymore.

>>147970186
The Niilfgaard didnt use sorcerers in battle. They used them sometimes in sieges, but not in battle. That was the reason they corrupted Vilgefortz before second invasion, to make sure second sodden will not happen
>>
>>147969481
They swear a lot and that actually fits their race, I mean seeing a dwarf you expect a miner or a bulider thats well educated and can behave

But then you actually talk to them and they start swearing are bro tier to everyone friendly. This is probably the most realistic representation of dwarfs i've seen

Yeah, it solved the problem. The script kicked in but the fire balls didn't destroy that wooden structure. Maybe I decided to bait the second group of enemies one by one (so they can't surround me) and killed the last one far from that.

And yeah, W2 is still nice in-game visually but looking at the screenshots themselves makes you notice the dirty details. Funny how it was the best looking DX9 game back in 2k11, a lot of people refused to believe first that it's not DX11.

He hated them, but recognized their usefulness, that's why they werent all just thrown into dungeons in Nilfgaard. Reasons are explained in the books very well and there are lot of them. And I cant say I blame him for that.

I read the books, and I did not remember it. By the wiki page it looks like you're right. That's in the Baptism of Fire. I don't have that one - couldnt buy it - and I got it from a library, so I read it a few times less than the rest.

It does not have to be. In witcherverse some monster learn to live in "symbiosis" with humans, Zeugl for example. Also it's not like there arent three or four lesser vampires in Novigrad and Oxenfurt. And a higher one.

Anyway, its 3 a.m in Poland now, so I'm going to sleep. Have a lullaby.

I have a concern, I've played the first Witcher over 10 times. That's how much I loved it. I played Witcher 2 which was raved to shit on the "unplayable part 1".

I found the Witcher 2 disappointing, shitty interface, short game, fake difficulty(using high damage to appear difficult). The people who praised this, said Witcher 1 is bad.

Is part 3 actually good or just hype from the console kids again?

Also suggest some fucking mods for Witcher 2.

it has close to no bookstores let alone foreign bookstores

everything in english is really expensive here (assuming you can even buy it)

so i bought the warcraft series in hungarian and i promised myself never again

read it from the beginning. Last Wish -> Sword of Destiny -> Blood of Elves -> Time of Contempt -> Baptism of Fire (actually I think they should translate it as Baptism by Fire, in polish "Chrzest ognia" has both meanings) -> Tower of the Swallow -> Lady of the lake

I'm playing through Witcher 1, and I had a couple questions to ask, since I tried finding answers elsewhere and failed, so I'm hoping someone in the general could enlighten me.

If I copy my save over to Witcher 2, it says I get some stuff from the first game carried over, among them being some steel and silver swords. Did you need to have the swords in your possession on that save file? Because I suddenly came to the realization I locked myself out of arguably the best silver sword in Witcher 1 by forgetting to kill the special drowner monster in the Outskirts during Chapter 1.

Also, between Yaevinn and Siegfried, who's generally your favorite, /wtc/? I'm partial to Seigfriend. I haven't gotten to any point where he makes a heel-turn, which could come later down the story's path, but so far, he's pretty bro-tier. Knightly as fuck, payed me extra for saving people over killing squirrels. Yaevinn is alright, I guess.

Yeah, you will get the gear you had at the end of Witcher 1, you have to possess them I think, because one of the swords did not carry over because I did not have it in the inventory I think.

Stay neutral, Brofriend is a bro and deserves respect, Yaevinn is a cunt that deserves to be hanged, but being neutral is the best option in the coming events.

Yeah, you get what you have in your possesion. Still, that equipment will at most take you through first chapter. If you don't have it, you will just make or find another sword, it's not like you need it or anything.

Also the best weapons from the first game will not be as good in the second one. Just a better starting weapon, nothing more, you will soon find better items.

>Yaevinn or Siegfried
That's just your prefference. Nothing stops you from helping humans in one game and scoia'tael in second or vice versa.
>That's the fun about - both have controversial morality and are racist. You have to think for yourself which one appeals to you more. You can be neutral too.

You do realise most names have some meaning, although it's often been forgotten about.
It would be the equivalent of every Max being called "Great one", it's simply not what people do.

Fair enough. Although they don't necessarily have to translate her name, I guess it's a matter of preference.
I think all the Aen Elle do call her Zireael, there are so few Aen Seidhe in the game, I don't think Ciri is ever even brought up in conversation there.
As for the dwarfs - they do seem to have adjusted, mostly. They usually don't call Geralt Gwynbleidd either, just Geralt.

She liked Mistle alright, as a friend - but the sex did nothing for her, ever, it's pretty obvious.
For example before parting, Mistle comments on it "So that's why you were so nice to me? One last time..." (or sth like that). Ciri never liked it much, she just went along with it. She literally says so at one point ("Why are you with me, if you dislike me so much?" - "I don't want to be alone.")
The making out in front of Hotsporn should be obvious as well - it's not for Mistle's benefit. The whole time, it's mostly Mistle pushing it, and Ciri sort of enduring the advances, sometimes actively rejecting it.

The morning after ("I'm not alone anymore") to me is clearly her just being glad to have someone, anyone, she's just that lost and pretty much coming apart at the seams.
It was a very weird relationship. It's clear she cared for Mistle, but it's just all sorts of wrong. The question remains, of course, if she was more apalled by Mistle being a girl or if it was just the involuntary nature of their whole relationship? She seemed kind of alright with Auberon having his way with her...
At any rate, pretty much jumping the first guy she comes across after parting ways with Mistle doesn't exactly scream "love" nor "lesbian" to me.

He will now assert his influence over Ciri and force her into something she never wanted to be part of, that being the "empress" of Nilfgaard. Keep in mind that Emhyr's plans regarding Ciri is to use her to give birth to a child that is said to become the ruler of half of the world and the child's child will be the ruler of the entire world

Dijkstra, while a bit of a cunt, knows what's up and only wants what is best for Redania and the North
>>

It's arguably the best ending. Nilfgaard winning is the weak link here, but, considering they may never stop trying to conquer the North, it might be the best for the peasantry on the long run.

Of course, whether Ciri will be happy as a "witcher" for long is also a bit of an uncertainty.
Bad Dad might actually be best for her (since she's only presumed dead - in my headcanon she simply fucks off). It's sort of closest to the book ending as well.

Taking a time-out to think when you could be acting swiftly and preventing further problems simply by flexing your an Craite muscles a bit can have horrible consequences, though

Their culture is fucking shit.
And I say so as a historian.
They are already weakened for not having a strong leader and being unified. I mean, fuck, nilfgaard is at the gates and Lugos starts a civil war.
Cerys brings development, Svaringe brings stability and, possibly, makes an hereditary monarchy.
Hjalmar is just another Bran. People would probably love him, but he is shit, neglecting the internal affairs and provoking more hostility between clans.

The sex cards are quite nice (unless for some weird reason you ended up with the censored version), but no, usually no tits in the game/cutscenes, which may be for the better, considering the graphics of the game. Not that anon, but the only expansion that really matters to finish before NG+ is Blood and Wine, because the mutations system carries over and it is fun to play around with it in NG+, sadly the gift you get at the end of it does not carry over because it is a "quest item".

Otherwise, even the badass gear you get from NG+ becomes obsolete after a couple of hours of playing in NG+

No, not really - they are late game content anyway, both in the first playthrough and NG+.

Oh? I didn't know there was such a thing. Is that something that got added with some later patch?
I do reload saves after finding the result unsatisfactory (don't judge me), but I did get everything right except for the Lodge meeting. This one and the lab are easy misses imho (if you don't go for reloading). So, mess up one more time and you're screwed. I heard for example people skipping the burial thinking there was simply no time... Well it's actually better if he plays the best game, gets charmed with it and goes back to finish the other two than start from the beginning and get thrown away altogether because first game is not perfect and got old somewhat.

Dont get me wrong, first two games are great (I am kinda angry on second one for rushed final chapter), but you dont need to play them before third one because story is rather independent.
>>
>>148052116
Well, I do own the others and I did play them to an extent, but I never finished them mostly because I had other things to play at the time and I didn't particularly like Geralt as a main character. The only reason I'm coming back to the series at all is because I felt like I was missing out since everyone says how great Wild Hunt is.

Nope, just let her fend for herself. In-game reason: the lodge will never take her seriously if she needs someone else to speak for her and assert her.
It does not matter what you say, going with her already counts as a minus.
>>
>>148052529
Also, the first one felt bad. Just felt not fun to struggle with the mechanics. So I kind of carried all those negative feelings into the second game, which I kind of felt like I was forcing myself to play rather than other things I wanted to at the time.

2-3 hrs is not "playing to an extent", that's just having a quick look (not that there's anything wrong with that per se).
The mechanics in TW1 aren't nearly as bad as some people make them out to be, if anything, the game is too easy (certainly easier than TW2). TW2 is a lot closer to the Wild Hunt gameplay wise, although less streamlined.
At any rate, if you didn't like Geralt, this franchise may simply not be for you, but, who knows. A small heads-up, since you seem the impatient sort: there's a lot of cutscenes in the beginning, try to persevere, the story takes a little while to get moving.

You have finished the game once already, I'm sure you did a lot of greyed out quests, were they ridiculously easy? Nothing will change in that matter.

It's not hard either way, because your character is a witcher with uberhuman reflexes and it's easy to avoid being hit.

Relax, anon, no need to get worked up.
I'm approaching lvl 50 on my vanilla playthrough, in case that wasn't obvious. Otherwise, my question would make no sense, would it now?
If I start NG+ with lvl 50, when the game expects me to be around 30, how difficult can that be? It's gonna be a cakewalk, hence my question. To be clearer, maybe - how does the enemy scaling work?
>>
Who is the Ciri of the Witcher universe?
>>
>>148056906
I did not try the scalling, however I read a few annons complaining about it making rats invincible and quests for which you are overleveled very hard.

And I think game expects you to be 35-38, not 30 lvl.

But seriously, have you ever found an enemy in this game which you could one hit because you are a lot higher in lvls? I didnt notice leveling in this game to give flat linear increase in stats. Also as you have limited slots for skills, you dont get much more powerful when you gain lvls, just a bit.

Sorry for the tone, but when it's like tenth person which asks this question and I never noticed problems with game being too easy (and yes, I started a NG+ game being lvl 42, it didnt feel "ridicously easy". And it was not hard because how I wrote earlier - it's easy to not to get hit. And even if you do, intelligent use of Quen can make you almost invincible regardless of your lvl relative to your enemies.

>>148057285
Just slops of an experiment gone wrong.
>>
>>148057792
>And I think game expects you to be 35-38, not 30 lvl.
Yeah, you're right - I just remembered there was something about the game raising your stats to at least lvl 30 if you managed to finish with something below that.

> I didnt notice leveling in this game to give flat linear increase in stats. Also as you have limited slots for skills, you dont get much more powerful when you gain lvls, just a bit.
Well, during BaW you do get some additional slots, I already burned a lot of AP on mutagens and opted out of using the power-Aard (for now), since that is akin to playing in god-mode, imho.

> I started a NG+ game being lvl 42, it didnt feel "ridicously easy"
Ah, see, that is actually helpful

> it's like tenth person which asks this question
Well, sorry, I haven't been around for a while as to avoid spoilers, so that passed me by, I guess. I'm not trying to be complainy or anything. The thing is, I'm merely a decent player, not a great one. So, there's a sort of range where I feel the difficulty is "just right". I like using potions and oils and bombs and try to not just spam quen and brute force through everything.
I was really mostly interested in how the scaling would affect gameplay. Guess I'll just deal with it when I get there

I don't feel my witcher to be overpowered at all.

How would you increase the difficulty lvl? Let everything one-hit you?

Only one thing I can think of is giving some handicap to dodging, because Geralt is just very fast and that is his main strength. And taking that advantage away from him would be kind of stupid.

>Actually that was where I felt most of the difficulty of Dark Souls - that your hero isnt a very good dodger. But maybe I'm wrong, I didnt play that game for too long, as I'm not a fan of fighting games, they bore me very fast.

Well, I'm not complaining about the difficulty of the game in general at all, it suits me fine, overall.
That being said, I'm not maximising stats or trying to make the best Geralt there is with the best gear available at all times.

>How would you increase the difficulty lvl? Let everything one-hit you?
I'm not a game designer, but as a gamer, I like the fights best where you have to employ some sort of advanced tactic (rather then quen-dodge-fastattack rinse and repeat until enemy's dead).
For example, the Caretaker is still my favorite fight in all the game. That was so much fun, and felt so good when I finally beat him to a pulp. I just don't want to be able to one-shot my enemies and just blast through everyone and everything (mutagen-Aard for example does just that).
So, in many cases, weaknesses could be a bit more pronounced, as in, make more of a difference for whether you stand a chance in a fight. For example, I've never had to cut out a grave hag's tongue, like the loading screen recommends. I have made an Alghoul hide his spikes by using Axii, didn't seem to make any sort of difference though, really.

Oh, while we're at it, do we ever get to see the monster that hollowed out the caves where you can find the grandmaster Ursine armor?

There are two weird things that blood and wine never wrapped up.

Who was the thief that broke into Moreau's lab and what did they want?

Who the hell was the Cintrian? He's hyped up quite a bit but then dies unceremoniously off-screen. We don't even see a body, so his death is more of an assumption. And then he's never brought up again, even though Regis and Geralt are bloodthirsty to understand the whole picture.

There probably isn't a clear cut answer for either of these, so I guess I'm asking for speculation.

Yeah, I too found the power-up of Aard to be kinda too much. It makes Igni obsolete, as Aard is your thing for getting more space for yourself in battle, and Igni was typical damage spell... And now you have both in Aard, and I think it even does more damage than Igni with that instakill chance and all.

>Caretaker was fun even outside of combat mechanics as really enigmatic and kinda scary monster. I was constatly asking myself "wtf is that, from what part of hell it crawled from"

>Never having to cut hag's tongues
Yeah, me too. I always hoped that it makes a difference on death march difficulty or smth.

>burrow monster
It's just a shaelmaar, I was dissapointed too

Anyway, the way I see it, whole combat and leveling system is kind of... Rigid. It's hard to change something without need of rebalancing everything. At least it's fun enough to not kill your fun from the story and the world, as those two are flawless.

Also one thing that I hated in this game is that you can kill swarms guards, soldiers, gangsters or whatever in middle of Novigrad and no one remembers it or even bats an eye. You just go few meters away and you're perfect citizen in everyone's mind.

quen all the time, thunderbolt elixir, and never stop moving. Strafing around him allows to dodge most his attacks without actively trying, however dont forget to dodge when it's neccesary.

igniting the gas is risky.

he is vulnerable to igni and good sign build would be good, as he is very resistant to melee attacks.

Also be patient and dont try to rush it.

>I was constatly asking myself "wtf is that, from what part of hell it crawled from"
Yeah, Geralt's comment after the kill is pretty much what I thought the whole time. Truly a spooky fellow. The whole place is deliciously creepy.

> It's hard to change something without need of rebalancing everything.
Yeah, seems true enough. Again, I never had any major complaints though. I once played a main chunk of the game in Skellige party clothes since Geralt was getting so powerful. Made the fights pretty interesting again.

>kill swarms guards, soldiers, gangsters or whatever in middle of Novigrad and no one remembers
I guess this mechanic is just a sort of gameplay necessity, since getting all of Novigrad up in arms against you would pretty much mean instant game over. There are a couple of other problems though that you simply mustn't think about too much (like the instantly-anonymous sorceress hoods or the flaky teleporting which apparently can't in any way be used to get mages to safety, Aretuza staff being unbelievably incompetent etc).
Suspension of disbelief is a major asset in some places here.

Btw, is the Moondust bomb kind of useless, or do I just suck in using it? I tried to apply it during the Corvo Bianco fight, and it seemed to do more or less nothing in particular. Really, Yrden (and in that particular case, Black Blood) seemed to do a far better job in ensuring you make it through alive...

Yrden, moving all the time, and not getting too close when it's not stunned. It's doable, just be patient.

Yeah, I loved it a lot, it really made me feel sad. However I cursed a lot on the Caretaker and his healing abilities.

>game mechanic
Yeah, you're right. Still it was kinda dissapointing.. It's not that I would want to be hunted by whole of Novigrad, I would just like less plot armor, more sensible workarounds and something that does not break immersion so hard.

About the barracks, just people talking about how mysteriously building was set on fire with everyone inside dying and totally no witnessess would be enough for me, as it is its just like it never happened. No one notices it in slightiest, I think only Dijkstra has anything to say about it.

Fuck those Crones.
First time playing I went with my gut feeling and got the arguably less happy ending, actually felt it was quite fitting. You really shouldn't feel too bad. Some decisions are tough to make, it's part of what the game is about. And with this particular quest, there's really no having it all.
>>
>>148073228
>beard
Don't know how it got translated, but it's that in original.

>>148073195
I actually like how people are suprised with this and find it hard to cope with any possible decision they make having bad consequences. I love this game for that.

Actually there is a possibility of saving both the orphans and Baron and his wife, however villagers will still die. It will happen if you find the ghost in the tree and free it BEFORE you get quest from the Crones to kill it. Still, I would call that an exploit, as it's surely unintended by the developers.

anyway, dont be a coward, anon, and do not reload. This game will suprise you many times yet.

I played the other games so I'm not unfamiliar with quests having bad repercussions, but usually I just assume a certain mindset for what choices Geralt would make and I hardly feel "wrong" about it. Don't know why this one bothered me so much.
>>
>>148073567
>I would just like less plot armor, more sensible workarounds and something that does not break immersion so hard.
Yeah, there's definitely room for improvement there. I think B&W does it a bit better, although it might be easier there since the environment is just smaller and more controlled.
It's also quite surprising that nobody seems to recognise Geralt or ever have heard about him, so he gets constantly attacked by peasants wielding pointy sticks. You'd think at least in Novigrad the thugs would refrain from trying to attack him, an armored grizzly looking fellow with two swords on his back? There must be easier targets around...

I didn't mention it for precisely that reason. I read somewhere there is a line of dialogue for that particular scenario, mind you, so the devs might have accounted for it after all (can't verify as I've never tried).
Sticking with tough decisions is part of the fun, really. Regardless of the orphans, the "bad" ending to said quest can still be seen as appropriate. Really, neither the baron nor his wife have many places to go anymore at this point. The only one who might be a bit better off with the Blue-Mountain ending is Tamara, who has no fault in the whole clusterfuck - then again, the farewell is a lot better in the bad ending.

There is something about the Crones that is... Disturbing. That moment when you see them in their real form for the first time.... I listened to them and killed the ghost, and then when I saw them I was like "Oh shit. What have I done?"

Their design is just a masterpiece.

>>148074970
That's sadly very true... Especially when you look at the books, where people were so afraid of witchers than bandits would run away from you if they would see your eyes or ever a sword swirl made with inhuman speed.

In Shard of Ice Geralt gets mugged and he actually gets hit to the head with a club and fails to the ground (he is so depressed that he does not fight back as Yen betrayed him and he actually thinks about killing himself)
the guys who tried to mug him just leave him alone when they see his eyes because they're just afraid as fuck.

Still, I don't think it would make a fun game if everybody would just let you go or run away because of your reputation. But a few instances there and there would be very nice.

>>148075145
O' Dimm is not a giant arsehole who tries to ruin everybody's day. He is like the devil - he tricks people and make them suffer horribly, but he does not come back for people who won in his own game or attack innocents. He torments people who deserve it (Olgierd definitely did deserve it)

>>148075541
It does sound reasonable, and actually it could work plot-wise, as Crones dont have to hold you guilty for doing something against them not knowingly.

Still, both Baron and Anna are guilty as fuck.

>>148076075
Axii can stun oponents for a moment (I always have it upgraded for dialogues though, but i think it does that without any upgrades. Also you can make it to turn enemies to your side)

>There is something about the Crones that is... Disturbing.
I had found the spooky cellar when I first went to the swamp-camp, it all seemed very fishy right from the start. But the reveal was really great,
I tried to be diplomatic, not wanting to antagonise them too much, which ended with them lusting over Geralt in a rather terrifying way. They are also interesting creatures since they aren't all bad, either.

>Axii can stun oponents for a moment (I always have it upgraded for dialogues though, but i think it does that without any upgrades. Also you can make it to turn enemies to your side)

Yeah, I use Axii puppet every now and then - mostly on humans opponents though, since they seem the only ones it works really well on. I'd just given up on casting it on Alghouls, since it is a bit tricky to use with enemies that swarm you, so it seemed a wasted effort.

Does anyone else can't stand Bethesda games? This silent protagonist thing just makes the whole world completely empty for me, no matter how detailed it is. That's why I love The Witcher, Geralt is already a well rounded character and feels like an actual person interacting with the world.

Whats the name of the quest where you beat up somebodys brother in law or something and then they make up? One of the brothers is from Skellige.
>>
>>148079745
The bears never attack during the funeral, you probably misremembered. The berserkers show up at the... crowning ceremony, for lack of a better term. It's a scripted event that can't be avoided, for better or worse.

Actually the protagonist not being silent is one of the main changes in Fallout 4. It gives him/her more personality, but on other hand it limits your choices for character background and roleplay in general. It's a tradeoff for sure when you can make a custom character instead of using a established one like Geralt, some people like it, some people don't.
