Ok, it looks pretty. Can you keep it looking pretty when you build a giant expansive world? Or is the whole world going to be grassland?

There's a reason indie games don't even try to approach this level of graphics. It's not that hard to get it working for one scene, but making a whole game like this is impossible solo (or else AAA studios would be shitting out tons of games instead of hiring 100 man teams).

Alternatively you need a game where you can get away with limited assets (like the DD Ace Combat game, where all you really need is a detailed sky/ground/planes).

>>
>>147908596
you're going to get bullied a bit, so I hope you have a thick skin

the gameplay mechanic (walking on walls / gravity / perspective changing) isn't super unique - a lot of people think of the idea when they start deving... but I don't think anyone has ever actually implemented it well, so if you nailed it you might have something special

you're also making what looks like an arena shooter - be warned that multiplayer indie games are 99% doomed to failure no matter how good they are just because the playerbase isn't big enough

the game also looks like a tech demo right now - do you have a plan for making the assets? can you model/texture/etc?

basically we've seen a lot of games like yours before, so we're a bit cynical

i hope you've got a trick up your sleeve

Not really related to gamedev, but I feel like a missed opportunity was Twitch Plays Pokemon Go with a GPS spoofer. It seems harder than it looks, though, because you'll have to convert Google Maps to walkable/unwalkable tiles otherwise people can just walk over the ocean.

I think it's too late now though because the popularity will be gone within a month seeing as the game is so shallow.

Don't give up!

really, demo day is a bit misleading for new devs... it's always dominated by a couple of celebrity games... not much you can do about it other than making a game that panders to /agdg/ or having a super complete/polished game

>Would you play it
No, but someone else might. However as already pointed out the models don't feel like they belong there. Make your own in a style that meshes with the level, doesn't need to be photorealistic humans, it could be some blocky figures or whatever instead.

Also, third person mode isn't needed. Switch to first person, this also reduces the demand for pretty and sparkly player models.

And finally the juice is lacking, it looks like you're throwing pool table balls at eachother, add some neon plasma balls, bright orange rockets and other impactful weapons.

I made a couple of videos where i play some of the demo day demos, so the devs can get some feedback.
Originally I wanted to play all of the demos but there are just so many of them this time around, plus i realized that some of the devs won't be even interested in me giving comments on their games in my broken whispery english while i play their demo.
So if you want me to play your demo just reply to this post with the name of your demo and i will try to do it.
This way if no one is interested i will at least save myself all of that work.

Here is the link to the first 5 games i did:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbGvGWhtVNA&index=1&list=PLDsHIzUf2EiTflkz6yKFVykvRx-K2KK0y

you take the normal n by v⃗ ⨯ x⃗, then take the sign of n from the sum of its components, multiply the sign into the magnitude of n, and do

atan2(||n|| * sign, v · x)

then map the negative parts into positive by 2pi

I got all of the "content" for alchemy/potions in the game, but it's still non-functional. That means all the 3d models and UI textures are there, and I also created a data table for recipes and colors. So tomorrow I will add the code to mix potions based on the recipes, then I have to give them each some kind of function when you drink it. I ended up making the reagents actually count as potions, and I'm not sure if that was a mistake yet because I had to special-case them a bit in the code since they can't be mixed (they can be consumed for minuscule benefits though). Oh well.

If anyone is interested in trying it, you can play here (though without the alchemy):

So to sum it up, you don't know to art and you also don't know how to programming. And you refuse to learn either and instead post memepictures all day.

Platforming and exploration.

You're an astronaut trapped in the "hyperspace".
First part of the game is focused on navigating from planet to planet. Using the movement system (with sprint & jump) as well as all the material stuff you can find to gain height and/or speed.
After a while you'll find a Jetpack, allowing you to easily travel from planet to planet and explore all the stuff that was out of reach before.
In that second part of the game, everything will become a little more fucked up and puzzles will be really different from each others but all of them will revolve on player's perception and paradigm shifts.

Sometimes (always) I question goverment action. Especially who's responsible.

Because consider how much Russia loses by banning github. It's an insane software development resource.

So if I was some lunatic politician who decided 'oh, someone hosted a text file, we have to ban this'. Where's the agency that tells me to shut the fuck up or kidnaps me and throws me into some uranium mine or whatever.

That clearly doesn't exist in this case. I think it'd be good all over the place. Punish retards harshly. It's not even about if someone is retarded or not. It's more about what the consequences were, even if it'd be regarded as wise by people to take that course of action if it has objectively negative consequences (which isn't that hard to tell in many cases) just shoot the person who made the decision.

If you take this perspective on politics, everyone who said or did something stupid died, you'd quickly see how much better that system is.
>but death penalty is a bit harsh
Consider the consequences of reduced economic growth in a country like Russia. Decisions like these have probably killed hundreds already. So what's 1 person if you can start discouraging stuff like this?

Well. You'd have to start with a clean slate right?
Either they can't be politicians anymore or you just slay all of them.

Excellent, thank you very much. To answer a few things you pointed out:
-There are no other weapons yet, I had to rush to get any attack at all in the game. More are planned though.
-A lives system is planned, not sure yet if respawning in place or checkpoints.
-The keys are remappable by editing the config file, though I know that's tedious. Next version will hopefully have a menu for that.
-I'll probably do something about the falling sneks, though watching people die to them while climbing those ladders has been hilarious.
-There actually was a tiny secret in that wall
-You got almost halfway through the game

Also fuck, I just realized I shipped a config file with the window coordinates set to 0,0 and apparently on Windows this places the window too high to grab the titlebar and move the window. I've reuploaded the game with more sane settings, though you can just edit (or remove) the config file to fix it.

Even I've been taken by surprise by those sneks. See the part in >>147915937 where he gets killed by the snake ( https://youtu.be/brU3NMWxO3U?t=524 ). The snake turns mid-air and falls to the middle platform. I never planned for this to happen but since their behavior is randomized at fixed intervals, there's a good 1/3 chance for that every time that particular snake decides to walk off the cliff.

Hey Grid Dev:
Couldn't you just steal the movement system Pokemon Mystery Dungeon has? Movement is WASD, both for a diagonal, and if you're holding spacebar or something you can only move diagonal. You could also put in like a 5 frame (83ms) buffer before movement to allow the player enough time to do a diagonal. I couldn't really see anyone who plays video games fucking that up.

Comfyville Feedback

Has potential to be something cool, but feels really slapped-together at the moment.

There's no real feedback when the player does anything. I can't tell if I can harvest fruit from a tree when I left click or not because there's no indication of it, and there's no sound when I do harvest, so it almost seemed like the fruit just fell of its own accord the first few times.

I was having trouble picking up fruit also, I just kept kicking it around trying to grab it, then I realized my inventory was full. These are all little things the player needs to know. Am I standing close enough to harvest this? Is my inventory full? etc.

The inventory screen was really buggy for me also. Pressing TAB brings the inventory up, but if I click on the inventory at all, then pressing TAB after that caused the little tabs at the top of the menu to get a dashed line around them, and didn't exit the inventory, so then I'd have to click off of the inventory to deselect that tab, which would result often times in me accidentally planting something. This was a double nightmare in the shop, when somehow I had the shop AND my inventory up and overlapping, and I couldn't get either to close.

I don't know how much is placeholder and how much isn't, but you may consider a change of art direction with your UI. The whole game really has that "mobile port with microtransactions" feel with the huge colorful buttons, comic-y fonts, big coin icons for money, etc. This is a turn-off for some people, believe it or not.

The music is nice, and if its placeholder also, then that's at least the type of music you should shoot for when you get your real music put together. The overall Animal-Crossing graphical vibe is nice, although given you've got some assets taken straight from AC, its hard to tell what's you, and what's placeholder.

It's got potential to be a nice time-wasting chill farming game. Good controls, nice music. Keep working on it, man!

Listened to a few of your tracks, and overall the sound is really nice, but for BGMs you really want to be careful with peaking or near-peaking audio.

For example, in Fight With Mishima, that bass/kick is way, WAY too much, and in Six Six Five, there's a high pitched tone/instrument that is a bit too shrill at it's highest. Maybe not a big deal for PC speakers but for headphone users its RIP.

Otherwise the composition and instruments are great. I'm not sure what sample library you use, if its EWQL or others, but it sounds pretty sharp.

Thanks for playing! I discovered the bug in your play session. It actually comes from being on a level that has spike projectiles for more than 5-10 minutes (depending on the hardware power of your PC) will crash the games FPS.

I never caught this bug because I have a pretty beefy PC and since I know what to do on every level, it doesn't take me 5-10 minutes to complete a level.

Thanks to your footage I caught the bug and will be updating the demo soon so thank you.

Along with some bugs I caught from anons, I will be changing the main menu to be smoother just a little space where you can mess with the movement if you want, and a lot more polished than using this as the title screen like before.

If anybody else plays Bokube and finds a bug let me know.

>>
>>147919083
here, you want me to walk you through it? it's fucking easy.
choose two or three points, interpolate them with some sort of function to get the positions of your object, and scale the provided time elapse so that your object moves over the entire segment of that polynomial within the correct amount of time, at whatever changing rate you'd like.
is your function piecewise? that's a non-issue; when your object is acceptably close to the point where it should switch pieces, just switch the fucking pieces you little bitch.

The chains hide shit that's out of vision. If you close a door, the room behind it will get hidden.

I do something like a flood-fill within a short range (~20 tiles or something) to see which tiles are visible.

Most tile based games do a line-of-sight check with lines, but I was never happy with that... There's always weird artifacting.

Anyhow: to hide the invisible tiles, I use a mask buffer. It's a screen-sized image. Every frame I:
* Draw the game world as normal.
--------
* Draw a flat color over all the hidden tiles to said buffer-image.
* Draw flat colored sprites for the wavy-things-at-the-edge-of-the-shadows to the buffer-image too.
* Turn on a blend mode that only draws to non-transparent parts of the buffer-image.
* Draw the chains over the whole screen.
* Turn off blend mode.
* Draw the resulting image over the game-world.

Perhaps this shit will set you on the right path:
http://www.yoyogames.com/blog/56
http://www.yoyogames.com/blog/57

If Game Maker uses OpenGL or uses the same blend stuff, this might help: http://www.andersriggelsen.dk/glblendfunc.php

I can't give you the exact blend shit I used since it's a biiiit more complicated because of special considerations my game had.

A lot of them are decent, but a huge chunk of them are basically like pre-alpha and have no place here.

The whole game really has that "mobile port with microtransactions" feel with the huge colorful buttons, comic-y fonts, big coin icons for money, etc. This is a turn-off for some people, believe it or not.

this one i didn't expect. i expected criticism regarding the execution, but not the idea. i admit that i didn't put much effort into *making* the UI art, but i did give it some thought. i thought i was heading in the right direction with it. i guess not!

I use random number generation with a seed.

The seed is (X coordinate + Y coordinate * map width). Then I just pluck the first random value between 0 and however-many-types-of-wavy-shadows-I-have.

(I do it once on loading the map, not every frame)

Enemies are now smarter while attacking.
They don't shoot unless they are aimed properly and reload when they run out of ammo. They also shoot in random batches (instead of just holding the trigger down) to make it seem more natural.
Also the player now dies properly (getting ragdolled and all).
Too bad i won't make the demo day, but i just don't have enough (any) gameplay for a demo, so there would be no point. Definitely going to have a demo for the next one though.

And I'm not saying your UI look bad at all. It doesn't look bad, it just has that mobile-port feel to it. But that's just one man's opinion, so if nobody else has that complaint, then don't worry about it.

The UI is clean and works, so if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Uh by the way, I rotate (90 degree steps) the wavys things. It's just a simple check if the neighboring tile is in-sight or not... and then choosing how to rotate based on that.

Special attention had to be given because of the way I did walls though. Doors/tall walls/short walls required separate offsets.

Are you here? I know you've been getting some complaints about controls.
I suggest having three options:
1. Current WASD controls
2. AD rotates, W accelerates, S decelerates
3. Jelly follows the mouse, W/S or something else control speed
Then have the most casual-friendly method be the default.

Sync the symbol track over the idol herself. Was going to make a video, now I just can't be bothered.

Idol Commander

Good Things
I’m not huge on rhythm games since I stopped playing Guitar Hero like 9 years ago but It functions exactly how you want it to and it looks nice. It follows the beat pretty well which is pretty good. The button presses feel correct for hits and misses.

It’s got a nice art style.

Problems
It’s way way too hard to figure out what keys to press. Games like Guitar Hero and even DDR have very clear cut positions for your fingers to be in. Then when the notes come down it’s not only colour coded but also positional corresponding to your fingers/feet.

I guess I don’t really get the point of the track moving around. It feels really out of place. I can guess it’s to try and set yourself apart from other rhythm games but it makes it virtually unplayable to me. You have no indication of whats coming besides the qwer but it's hard to mentally process it when it lacks any form of consistency. R's can be coming from wherever.

I think swapping to a more traditional 4 column layout would do wonders, or I dunno, having some other gimmick with the rhythm to differentiate. The current track is just not working out.

I think you should probably only have the girl stop dancing if you do a large miss streak 2-3ish probably because it looks really unappealing to see her stop dancing and cry. I think it’s just that the animation for the screw up is a bit too long.

You also currently lack a lose condition, you should probably include one. I don't really know if you just want it to be a chill game where you play without any loss of the song, but usually games need a lose condition

To bunnydev:
If you kept the track layout, you could use the arrow keys or wasd as directions, so the rhythm was tracking the path correcctly.
Up for straight, left for left turn, etc. I don't know what to do with down. That would address the physical confusion.

I am here. The complaints about the controls have been the feedback, i.e. the floaty-ness nature of them. I released another demo to tighten this to try and mitigate it. I have no intention of changing the main controls to something besides WASD like movement just because it would be weird to do so and wouldn't allow for fast inputs for the faster parts of the game. Perhaps for some other aspect of the game I could try these methods.

First "a bit advanced" thing I made using sockets.
Still I'm unsure if I'm handling packets the right way?

Packet example:
public byte[] InitGameData(Game game)
{
string[] data = new string[3];
data[0] = "";
data[1] = "";
data[2] = "";
data[0] = game.CanStartGame().ToString();

for (int i = 0; i < game.users.Count; i++)
{
data[i + 1] = game.users[i].uniqueId;
}
byte[] packet = ObjectToBytes(4, data);
return packet;
}

Fuck the gameplay and put a pair of tits as the Itch thumbnail, works every time.

if it makes sprites it can make isometric sprites. a sprite would be a flat rectangle but you'd just put it onto the map.

Again, learn to market your stuff.
If you want to get reviews use something that will catch people's attention, and on 4chan tits are a great way to do it.
People slapped tits on their games, and got people's attention, got people playing their games and got feedback on them. Also most feedback is gameplay related anyway.

But when it comes to actually paying for the games a lot of people will skip the inflated tittygames because it''s so obviously a tacky clickbait method.

>Something seems different about the beams today.

My first instinct was to run the damage cookie system in reverse and see what happened. The result is pretty much exactly as you'd expect and I'm not entirely sure what I was trying to prove.

I may still use this particular effect as a special item of some sort. I'm thinking a canister of 'emergency foam' that can be used to pad your ship when there's absolutely nothing good floating around.

Or have the welding operate on a meter in combat-- I might do this and combine it with temporary invincibility in order to hide the sprite baking lag, which there will no doubt be. You can pop the emergency foam while stalling for your next weld.

>>
>>147937103
It feels unfinished. The UI has inconsistent sizes for buttons throughout and does not fully take advantage of the space given by the window. Also, one of the most popular things in modern UI is having multiple background sections with different colors in order to make it more clear what section does what whereas you just have a plain background with buttons on it.

Well, until Epic fixes the Ori Cohen bug, I won't be able to package my game, which means (unforunately) I'm missing Demo Day. Again.

As soon as the bug is fixed, I'll be uploading a new demo regardless, though, so stay tuned, I guess?

In the meantime, in service of making progress, I've started working on the second level (currently just called "Downtown").

The game is a series of 3D arenas inside buildings, coupled together by 2D segments between them (sidescrolling along the east-west axis and top-down along the north-south, currently). The boss will be a dash-based race-fight against a sentient APC, which races along the roads around and through the city

Currently the level is framed as a "stadium" like the first one, with a spectator crowd and the neon fencing protecting them. At this point I haven't made my mind up if all of the arenas are going to be designed this way, though my guess is no, and I'll probably come up with some other way of walling the player in.

What are you talking about? Miku is an intellectual property and just because you see lots of fan-made videos around doesn't mean that you legally have any rights to use her commercially.

And to give you a quick summary of Unity-chan license :
- Do not use her for anything sexually explicit
- Do not use her for violence or gore
- Do not make her curse
- Do not modify her outside of Unity
- You must show her logo somewhere in the credits

>>
>>147945809
ive beend messing around 3d for 4+ years modelling is easy. Uvlayout medium. Texture is an artist skill it as hard as you know how to draw/paint. Rigging is hard, then you have painting weights that is mechanic but easy. then animation. If you know animation basics your animations are good enough.
>>
>>147938756
The overworld gameplay is like Golden Sun, where you walk around and use skills to solve puzzles or overworld obstacles, the battle system and level up system is based on Paper Mario 64.
>>
>>147945646
what's that picture supposed to convey
>>
>>147946009
oh and also : if you know programming rigging can become easy as you can automate the rigging for bypeds. or mabe come out with a modular rigging tool where you can outomate the boring stuff.

>https://soundcloud.com/iwilldevouryourkittens/tentative-song-1

some nitpicks:
>right ear crash near the beginning is too loud and sounds weird and out of place
>main riff that builds up from 0:15 would perhaps be better represented by a sound with a higher frequency range (sounds kind of stuffy and cavernous right now)
>some harder more driven drums (a hard kick and snare pattern) would work well from 1:02 onward so that the fast pace is really felt and not just implied as it is now by the really fast but light percussion

very cool song
>>
>>147946060
It's supposed to mean that all UE4 games automatically looks like the above one and you cannot make anything better than the below one in Unity.

Now let me compare a Picture of Detroit ghetto versus a Pyongyang toruist photo to show that Capitalism have failed and Juche ideals are the way to go.
