in street fighter (and a lot of other games), when you block an attack high and then switch to blocking low, you maintain a standing hurtbox for a frame or two even though you're crouching

it means that you can land instant overheads on people downbacking when normally your hitbox wouldnt hit them

for example with ibuki i can do jump mk and then fuzzy guard with jump lk, but if i just did an instant jump lk on someone crouching it would whiff completely

I will never stop fighting for Melee to be considered a fighting game.

I don't think the naysayers understand how much more skill and technical prowess is required for Melee. Just look at this video:

Instead of needing 4-6 buttons for different punch and kick inputs plus the stick for most fighting games, Melee has a button for a smash attack, a button for a special attack, a C-stick for tilts (4 buttons), a jump button, a grab button, and a shield button. Not to mention the precise timing needed to wavedash and L-Cancel and all the other tech. Let's not forget the mindgames involved. Since most fighting games rely on an HP-based system and force you to fight in a small box, Melee has more freedom. The tables can turn at any point of you edgeguard strong enough and if you make the right predicts, not to mention how fast Melee is meaning you have to think really fast.

People often harp on us for clinging on to a 15-year-old game, but that just means Melee has more longevity instead of you fightingfags having to cash out every time a new shiny game is released. Melee has perfected it's craft while you guys have to relearn and relearn whenever a new game is released.

Face it, even if we don't get approval as a fighting game, we will still be more technical and overall BETTER than any fighting game that exists.

We aren't just Melee players, we are technical Gods and we're here to stay.

I will never stop fighting for Melee to be considered a fighting game.

I don't think the naysayers understand how much more skill and technical prowess is required for Melee. Just look at this video:

Instead of needing 4-6 buttons for different punch and kick inputs plus the stick for most fighting games, Melee has a button for a smash attack, a button for a special attack, a C-stick for tilts (4 buttons), a jump button, a grab button, and a shield button. Not to mention the precise timing needed to wavedash and L-Cancel and all the other tech. Let's not forget the mindgames involved. Since most fighting games rely on an HP-based system and force you to fight in a small box, Melee has more freedom. The tables can turn at any point of you edgeguard strong enough and if you make the right predicts, not to mention how fast Melee is meaning you have to think really fast.

People often harp on us for clinging on to a 15-year-old game, but that just means Melee has more longevity instead of you fightingfags having to cash out every time a new shiny game is released. Melee has perfected it's craft while you guys have to relearn and relearn whenever a new game is released.

Face it, even if we don't get approval as a fighting game, we will still be more technical and overall BETTER than any fighting game that exists.

How does your environment effect the way you play?

When I'm at a friends house playing fighting games is just all fun and learning. In my room at my house the AC is fucked though, and even with a fan it is always like 90 degrees in the room so every loss pisses me off more than anything in my life and really fucks up my play.


I went from winning one game to get into super silver today, to now if I lose one game I'm back in ultra bronze.

I'm done, this community has been great and it's been fun reading your posts and tutorials that helped a scrub like me crawl up to silver. But I'm done. I honestly cannot stand the way this game has been handled by capcom and it's issues far outweigh its strengths in my opinion.
I have been so severely hampered by online issues that I have spent hours trying to fix ( I have lost 20 rounds to roll back ). And while I'm happy many of you enjoyed the story mode, I thought it was poorly executed (load times, unnecessary transitions) and written (I think BvS had a more coherent story) which barred me from enjoying another part of this game I paid for. Survival is ... well survival, not much needs to be said. This game was not worth 60 dollars and between this and seeing how capcom released umbrella corps I believe it shows just how much capcom actually cares about the products they release now. That said.
