The only things AC5 does better is the amount of planes and the tunnel run. Between Fortress Intolerance, Megalith, Avalon Dam, the Fenrir Chase, and Chandelier, Dead Ahead is the most exciting, atmospheric, intense, and well-executed of the tunnel runs. With Hamilton on your tail, it forces you to go fast. With construction equipment and opening/closing walls, it forces you to constantly move around. With the small width across the tunnel, it forces you to be precise in your movements. The extremely long length of the tunnel forces you to endure. And the long length of the mission leading up to that point forces you to give it your all lest you wish to start from the very beginning. All this plus the music and best radio chatter in the game makes for the perfect tunnel run.

Let's not forget number of missions. Even with mission 27+, essentially 28, I think it had more than that. Like, the story did feel like a drag at some points due to all that cheese, but I seriously could've taken 10 more missions of ACZ. Maybe when the remakes NEVER EVER come out.
>>
>>147857151
Eh, it would be difficult to make more missions happen at this point. Where would they fit in the story?

Let's see:
>27 main missions
>2+ missions (8942 and The Unsung War)
>3 alt (coin flip) missions
>2 first arcade missions
>4 middle arcade missions
>8 final arcade missions
46 motherfucking missions, goddamn
>>
>>147858515
And now we know why some of them are so short
>>
>>147858390
Technically, ACZ has 55 missions if you include The Guantlet and every style as a separate set of missions, but only 3 missions (B7R, Mayhem, and The Demon of the Round Table) are actually different from each other in different styles while 3 others (Juggernaut, Merlon, and The Final Overture) are different depending on which operation you choose. All the other ones only have the slightest of variations, whether it's the radio chatter or aces that appear. The Guantlet at least changes depending on how fast you defeat the squadrons.
>>
>10
>>
>>147859287
Might as well call it 275 missions and count the different difficulties.
>>
>>147859287
Gauntlet seems to be a bit too generous to include, since it's a special bonus mission.

Counting the variants of Juggernaut etc. individually is fine, since they are different missions with different locations, enemies, and objectives.

Rise Rusegriz comes from a screencap of a post from long ago. I can't ever remember what it said, but it was something making fun of the meta and a couple posts followed twisting quotes from AC4.
Anyway, some time after the screencap became popular, and it should be noted that this was months after the posts in question were made, <<Rise Rusegriz>> became a thing to get the thread off page 10.

They still have their uses to clear yellows while keeping air superiority in ixed maps.

Disk 2 was translated half a fucking decade ago and I'd be embarrassed for them if they patched it as it currently is. No really, read the scripts, or play the game while reading the scripts on the side. It's full of typos and awkward sentences, it's as if it was translated by someone that knows Japanese better than English (possibly translated by DSXIII and he didn't like those scripts himself either, in fact IIRC he actually paid the translator that made disk 1). If you want more precise info on what they're up to you could start lurking the forum DSXIII posts in, gamehackingworld or some shit.

Also bookmark UseaToday. Seriously.
>>
>>147855992
I gotta give it in AC5's favor that it has a lot more environment variety, while in ACZ you fly over deserts and woodlands all the fucking time. I don't think you ever even see the ocean if not once.

And I'm saying this as someone that really really dislikes AC5.

Oh I guess there's also the fact that ACZ really reeks of "unofficial/third party super polished expansion pack" I guess.

As long as he knows Japanese and doublecheckes with the original scripts, but then again they also want to also translate the archive (think about it: the patched disks really don't bring much new to the table if you already played the game while reading the current scripts, other than more convenience (_big_fucking_deal_), better wording, roughly the same amount of typos if not more), and they know that people will get disappointed if they don't.

Also they are patching disk 2. At their own leisure, but according to them they did finish the UPEO path which is arguably the most satisfying one because you manage to actually save some of your wingmen! As opposed to saving one and turning him/her in a human wreck, or having to kill one of them yourself..

We'll probably have pilots for the foreseeable future, maybe not because the tech isn't available, but because it isn't reliable enough.

Humans make mistakes, sure, but they're also able to correct those mistakes, or at least minimize the damage from them and adapt to unforeseen circumstances. Like putting it down in a stadium.

Once you get into drone territory pure AI becomes unreliable, just look at the shit Tesla is being dragged through at the moment. Sure it's in-development tech, and you can argue that eventually it'll have a fraction of a percentage risk of just misinterpreting everything and nosediving into the ground, but you've got to convince the people in charge that it's worth the millions of dollars in equipment (a price that will only go up) to risk that.

And sure, people can fuck up, but better the devil you know and have spent like 2/3rds of a century planning around.

>>

they spend a ridiculous amount of money and time implementing something that you've been developing 'hypothetically' for years.

It's not like for example in the US development will cease on AI or remotely controlled drone-fighters, it just won't be used for actual combat.

Just look at the number of projects cancelled in favour of updating or refitting old hardware, replacing old shit with brand new shit is expensive and basically causes a huge amount of unrest amongst your staff etc. Again, not that it doesn't happen, but it won't be like "We made an AI that can dogfight somewhat reliably, suddenly we don't need pilots."

We may not have pilots in the planes, as drones will likely have a good grasp on basic maneuvering. However we will have commanders in an RTS sort of sense, and we might even have people babysitting the drones to make sure they don't do anything stupid. Programming does fuck up, and it does it a lot.

I have a feeling that direct control over drones will be the norm for quite some time.

>>
>>147963207
What do you mean? Fighter drones would be no different from current fighter aircraft except the pilot would be safer.
>>
>>147964082
>What do you mean
Absolute shit situational awareness unless you want to waste money and weight equipping the drones with double UHD cameras (and even then not even a VR set that has a resolution of 8k per eye comes close to the human eye), the pilot's brain getting conflicting information from his eyes that see one thing and his body that is moving in a completely different way than what his eyes see (and that's a HUGE deal, and one of the reasons why the MBT70 was shitcanned, the drivers got disoriented from that, some even got motion sickness IIRC some even puked because of it).

It just seems to be a recipe for disaster.
>>
>>147964726
>his body that is moving in a completely different way than what his eyes see
Is that really a problem with a drone?

You don't get motion sickness playing Ace Combat.
>>
>>147965341
It could very well be given that it proved to be a problem with tanks.

>You don't get motion sickness playing Ace Combat.
Because 1 you're not moving at all and 2 you aren't using headtracking or a VR headset.
>>
>>147965669
>it proved to be a problem with tanks.
They were physically in the tank though. It was also a problem with British Rail's tilting train prototypes (I believe the solution was to let passengers feel *some* tilt, but nowhere near what it actually was.)

>Because 1 you're not moving at all and 2 you aren't using headtracking or a VR headset.
Never got Motion sickness with X on a bus, and I can't see head-tracking doing it. A VR headset would be unnecessary. (Even head tracking may be unnecessary.)

If you sat them down in a proper simulator-like environment (360 camera, recreation of a cockpit and such) and then moved that in ways that didn't match what was displayed, then it's easy to see why motion sickness would occur. But when they were sitting elsewhere, in a clearly different environment I can't see it being a serious issue.
>>
>>147965912
So no depth perception?
>>
>>147966093
You can't really get that with a VR headset yet, can you?

I've heard at least with a head-tracker, formation flying is a nightmare compared to real life due to the lack of it.
>>
>>147965912
>A VR headset would be unnecessary
Yeah sure let's throw sense of depth (what allows you to visually spot planes in flight at 20km+ given the conditions are good enough) out of the window.

>(Even head tracking may be unnecessary.)
If you want to have even worse situational awareness, sure. There is a reason why headtracking is so big in flight sims and why it's also slowly expanding to racing sims and also shit like Arma.

>But when they were sitting elsewhere, in a clearly different environment I can't see it being a serious issue
Unless you can make so that they feel like they aren't flying inside a 737 or whatever it's going to be a huge liability.

>>147966225
>You can't really get that with a VR headset yet, can you?
According to people that have VR headsets you can.

And I never had problems with flying in formation while using headtracking.
>>
>>147966501
Thought that just occurred:
Do we really need one pilot to have all that situational awareness anyway?

In terms of general flight, one could always have a team of people assigned to one aircraft (or at least one other person) lowering the workload signifigantly.

Who needs to see another aircraft 20km away when you've got someone panning a highly zoomed camera around the sky who'll tell you if anything comes up?

It wouldn't even need much more hardware in the drone itself, it just means another laptop to send sensor data to.
>>
Why are we arguing about drone controlled fighters
You have one command pilot flying in his formation of drones. When they detect an enemy, he decides on a plan of attack and they execute. This gives the flexibility of not tying down fighter control to a ground location, allowing for deeper penetration into a hostile environment
>>
>>147966764
Oh sweet summer child. You spot flying objects not by clearly seeing them, but rather by sensing the movement with your eyes' peripheral area. A computer could theoretically do that, scan it with IRST and if it's emitting heat start tracking it. There'd still be problems about reliability though (such as the system locking random shit). Spotting things in the air with a high power (zoom) camera is dumb, you'd rather need multiple cameras with stupidly high definition, sensibility, refresh rate. Something that has characteristics similar to the human eye.

>Do we really need one pilot to have all that situational awareness anyway?

>>147967742
>Spotting things in the air with a high power (zoom) camera is dumb, you'd rather need multiple cameras with stupidly high definition, sensibility, refresh rate. Something that has characteristics similar to the human eye.
Not really. Scale is a bigger problem than quality beyond a certain point.

"A big black blurry fuck is moving around in an airplane like way" is enough to tell you there's something there to kill. You don't need to know it's an unarmed MiG-21.

>Yes.
Whoa what a great justification that sure convinced me that Pilots need to have the same workload they've always had despite no longer being physically present in the aircraft (and thus 10 crew being no more difficult than 1.)

Having 360 spatial awareness is VITAL for a plane, as any shot fired in a blind side could destroy the plane before he could react
>inb4 what are lock-on alarms
Time is of the essence, if you lose 0.5s to react to the already differed sound of the alarm, that's a lot of time wasted on something you could have seen and prevented altogether if seen it
>>
>>147968782
>Having 360 spatial awareness is VITAL for a plane, as any shot fired in a blind side could destroy the plane before he could react
That's why you render the concept of a blind-side obsolete with multiple cameras providing a 360 degree view, instead of one guy who will never be able to look everywhere at once.

Which is what the point of "Does one pilot need all that spatial awareness anyway?" comes from: It's not a rejection of spatial awareness, it's splitting tasks between multiple people. (All of whom could theoretically have a control column, or an "oh fuck it's an enemy missile, initiate automated evasion program" button.
>>
>>147966764
you're wasting time on relaying information amongst team members, I mean, it's doable, but it'd probably not stand up to a single human in 'complete' control of a single craft.

>>147967136
IIRC, you can't have fully automated killer robots at the moment, and honestly it'd be really really hard to get someone to sign off on them, people already make blue on blue mistakes. Robots would probably be even worse at that since you need to either teach them everything they're ever going to see, and hope you have enough references to prevent them misidentifying them.

Basically drones etc need a human operator. You can have them fly pre-programmed routes, and automatically look for movement, heat signatures etc but they need a human being on the other end controlling the weapons, or at least holding the little button that fires them.

Accountability is just that important, and without the human operator you're relying on a robot to decide whether an individual lives or dies, that's a lot of responsibility, especially given the destructive power of modern weaponry, what if it misidentifies a school as a target?
If a human makes a mistake then people look at the scenario and determine whether that could have been reasonably avoided. When a robot makes a mistake it's an error with the software or hardware, that software was developed by somebody, and the scenario the mistake occurred in should have been accounted for or the drone/AI isn't fit for duty. That hardware was designed/maintained by somebody, if the hardware fails then that's a problem with the equipment and that model of drone might not be fit for duty.

Basically we're not good enough at AI, and we might not ever be to justify giving an artificial 'intelligence' control of a very important situation that lots of humans aren't even fit/trained for. Not to mention the moral issues that arise from a computer killing people based on pre-determined data.
>>
>>147969073
It would be losing time in communication between crew members, and actually triggering the automated reaction from the plane, which would make the pilot lose control of his plane during a vital moment.

>what if you're not in a clusterfuck, and you know full well that if there's anything in that airspace that doesn't belong to the good ol' US-of-A then it has absolutely no business being there?
Then you don't wast time visually IDing in first place, and do with IFF or if IFF isn't working for some reason with one of the methods I previously listed?

Also it's not like visually IDing something takes a lot of time. Moving around the high power camera can be a completely automated process, just like scanning bogeys with IRST.
>>
>>148011886
Actually now that I'm thinking of it if the camera's automated (IIRC IRL F-16s already do that) you visually ID it first anyway, as long as it's feasible to do so (eg, the weather conditions allow you to do so from reasonable range, the bandit isn't already beaming you, etc).

>>148023367
Kurt Tank's napkinwaffe designs are closer to the F-86 and MiG-15 than the 262 is. Honestly the 262 was not that good of a plane. No airbrake, engines that died after all of 10 flight hours, shit acceleration. The guns were useless for anything other than bomber hunting.

But hell, it was the first jet fighter.
>>
>>148025663
>No airbrake
True, that was really dumb. Perforated airbrakes could've also made it viable as a dive bomber.

Blame the krauts that decided to use all of their good metal on useless subs (useless for a plethora of reasons, but the sub designs themselves weren't one of those) AND made the brilliant idea of using slave labor for making said engines.

>shit acceleration.
As expected of utter shit early jet engines. Every early jet suffered from that.

>The guns were useless for anything other than bomber hunting.
Bomber hunting was its primary intended role. 109s and 190s took care of the fighters. Also as I said in >>148023279 shit muzzle velocity becomes irrelevant if you fire from reasonable range.

Yeah they went off the deep end pretty early on thanks to a lot of infighting. Other decisions include, making the Heinkel Greif, a four engine heavy bomber, a dive bomber, completely ignoring any and all long-range bombers until the Amerika-Bombers way too late into the war and ignoring the He-100.

Also firing Junkers from his company, but that was the party more than anyone else.

IIRC they started firing before getting in effective range. Not like the loss of shell speed would've mattered because lolHE-Ifilling.

>>148026748
The He177 was completely irrelevant and shouldn't even crossed the silly krauts' thoughts. Even if they solved the engine problems they'd still have to solve the issue of fuel. And it's not like they even _needed_ a sodding strategic bomber. They needed more fighters, and from 1940. Galland got particularly assblasted about how the Luftwaffe's pilots plea of putting more fighters in production instead of making shittons of bombers was listened to way too late.

>That thing is even more napkin than the Ta-183 though.
That thing actually had a fairly completed prototype that got dissected in the US and "became" the Bell X-5, which in turn provided shittons of useful data for swept wings and the F-86.
>>
>>148027143
They needed strategic bombers earlier in the war. They had this hard on for dive bombers and almost totally ignored strategic bombers which was frankly stupid.
>>
>>148028216
Did they really? I'm pretty sure the Ju88 and He111 could've struck every part of the mainland UK. IMO they fucked up badly by concentrating most of their efforts on the cities rather than on docks and runways.

>Bombers
They only ended up not having any because one of the few people to defend long-range four engined bombers in the RLM died in a He-111 crash just before the war IIRC.

I'm sure they could've used those against Russia or the UK early on.

>>148028424
111s and 88s, the Junkers being a magnificent plane all on it's own, were rather limited on payload though. And frankly the 111 was outdated rather quickly given it's weak defenses.

>Bell X-5
Alright you win.
>>
>>148028424
Both those planes had frankly mediocre bombloads. They needed bombers with bombloads on the order of the B-17 and B-24.
>>
>>148028580
>They only ended up not having any because one of the few people to defend long-range four engined bombers in the RLM died in a He-111 crash just before the war IIRC.
It was ONE person that defended long range bombers and had enough political power to do so. I don't remember his name but I do remember that he died in a plane crash (an Heinkel, but a mailplane, not the He111).

Those plane's payload and range of action were absolutely adequate. They were misused, that's it (though the bombsights could've been definitely improved). If the krauts did have strategic bombers and they employed them against the russians they would've probably gotten eaten alive by MiG-3s, as the RLM had no proper long range fighters and some kind of retarded aversion against drop tanks until the later phases of the war.
>>
Also: you have to consider that Germany was remilitarinzing more or less in secret. The He111 and Ju88 were initially produced as "mailplanes". And you really can justify a fuckhuge slow 4 engines wide body plane as a mailplane, can you?

Well the 110s were supposed to take that role, but that didn't go so well.

To be fair noone other than the Japs and Americans had proper long-range fighters. Brits were pretty well off with their Mossy and Beaus though.

That's what I meant. You can't expect a bimotor heavy fighter originally made as a CAS plane to keep up with fighters specifically made for operating at long ranges and high altitude.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't say the Do was a bomber or that the 200 was a good one at that. I'm just saying that long-range multi-engine aircraft weren't exactly out of reach for the german designers at the time. It's just that they had this idea of a Schnellbomber which would outrun fighters IIRC, which worked well enough for the 111s during the Spanish Wars, but not during WWII, which is why they were horribly underarmed.

That said, Do-17 for best wing-root.

It's not that the 4 engine widebody design would've been out of reach, it's that it wouldn't have been justifiable as a mailplane.

And yeah, the Ju88 being supposedly a schnellbomber that can outrun fighters is a pretty spicy meme. Considering that the dive brakes and all add mass and drag that considerably reduced its projected speed.
>>
>US made 325,000 aircraft during ww2.

It must have been really frustrating as an aircraft designer in Germany to struggle for the limited funding and resources late war, when the Amis were throwing prototype money at anyone with blueprints and their own factory.

For now im stuck only understanding 2/5 of what the text says.

It aged like Morrowind graphics wise.

My point is not that they aren't realistic, is that don't have neither good good gameplay (because the AI is either awful or terminator mode, and flying the F-117 in the "realism" mode is rather boring) nor realism (F-117 flying at 900knots IAS lol), nor good graphics, not even for DOS standards. I can't wrap my head on how people managed to enjoy them. And I'm far from being the kind of person that shits on a game just because it's old.

For the record: autism sims with physics are about a decade older than DCS.

I still play every once in a while its fun.
A remake would be praised from the community thats for sure.

Well, if Assault Horizon Legacy (aka AC3D Cross Rumble aka the 3DS remake of AC2) and Infinity are any indication, they really do want to go back to their roots. AC3D's version of DFM, Maneuvers, can be turned off completely (although some enemies will still use them from time to time) and the game plays like classic Ace Combat, and Infinity has the best gameplay in the series if you overlook its jewy F2P system. AC7 is basically confirmed to take place in Strangereal and have crazy technology and superweapons like the space elevator and the drone carrier.

Not that I have an issue with how the game aged, but many complain about the graphics and the feel of the gameplay. I dont believe these people take into consideration the time period at which these games were made.

Great example I tried to get my roommate into the series cause he always wanted to jump into it when he saw me play. So I figure id have him play the games with the best story and gameplay in my opinion. He doesn't give the older games a chance cause he bitches about the story and the graphics "the characters dialog are like robots" etc.

I just gave up on him you cant persuade these people to get the appreciation for the series that some of us have that have been there since air combat.

Its just a problem with some people not being open minded.

TLDR my roommate is an elitest cunt that buys every new game from gaystop, reads the meta and then after a week he beats it and never plays it again. No I'm not joking he's the season pass type of fag.

My question is should I wait till 7 comes out or go buy a PS3 and get on infinity?

I really would like to jump into infinity but I dont know if its too late. (everyone is high by now rank wise and im just starting out)
Or if there are even still a lot of people online playing it.

Any input from people that play it would be good thanks.

I tried the one he posted on Usea Today, and it says the video doesn't exist, so maybe. Anyway, why is the true ending such a big deal? I hate in general when people hate something solely due to it's ending, like with Evangelion or The Sopranos or MGS2, but at least with those examples I can kinda understand why. I don't get why AC3's ending is a reason for getting buttblasted about the game.
>>
>>148061631

What?
>>
>>148061212
I've never heard of that happening to the 15/17 or 19, only in the context of the 21. It wasn't solved until they increased the fuel load and changed the layout some time in the...70s?

>>148061463
Have you played Ace Combat 6?
>>
>>148061795
Yeah I played 6 on the 360.
>>
>>148061463
It's fun and it's still possible to rank up if you know what you're doing. That takes a while, but even then, you can create 1500 Cst rooms to limit how decked out a person's plane can be. I suggest you go ahead and play Infinity before 7 comes out. Give me a while, and I'll give you some more specific tips.
>>
>>148061909
That and Crimson Skies are the reasons to own a 360.
>>
>>148061987
That would be great thanks!
But are there still quite a bit of people online?
Not sure if people with a lot of parts and higher rank planes wanna play a match with low rank limits.
>>
>>148061795
>I've never heard of that happening to the 15/17
Really? They had a little issue that was caused by full tanks 1/4ths full that would lead the fuselage to implode.
>>
>>148062128
Is crimson skies more of an arcade feel?
I remember looking into the game but never tired it.
>>
>>148061765
In AC2, there are two sets of planes. In the normal one you start with the Phantom and the Skyhawk, in the extra one you start with the MiG-21 and the Skyhawk. It's annoying as fuck as you are unable to buy all of the planes in the same playthrough.

>>148062268
Oh, the problem with the MiG-21 was different. It had the imploding problem as well.

With the 21, the layout meant that once half the fuel was used up, you couldn't do any negative G or violent maneuvers, otherwise the fuel wouldn't flow into the engine and it'd stall itself out.

Once you used up 3/4 of the fuel, the center of gravity shifted so much that it was almost uncontrollable even during the simplest of maneuvers. Think of trying to fly a plane that's dynamically unstable without any computers.

All of these problems meant that the MiG-21 couldn't be flown for more than an hour at a time, in a clean configuration. (The MiG-21 was actually trash at dogfighting.)
>>
>>148063104
Oh I wasn't aware of that, I suppose it was only an early MiG21 thing? F model?

Also, how did they fix the fuselage implosions anyway? Nitrogen?
>>
>>148062239
>Not sure if people with a lot of parts and higher rank planes wanna play a match with low rank limits
2 words: seal clubbing. And again, 1500 Cst rooms limits that. If you don't spread your resources thin, you'll reach the 1500 Cst mark soon enough.
>>
>>148063558
I think they just didn't let the fuel get so low, kek. I don't believe the Bis had that problem because it used saddle tanks, and the later J models had more fuel and a different layout. Worse performance though. I think the MiG-21Bis entered production in 71. I'm not good with soviet planes, so I can't be sure.

I'm sure they must have fixed it at some point, but I never followed up on that problem.
>>
>>148058718
AC2 is "Flying Bathtubs: The experience" but the planes have their charm and the OST rad as hell.
It's short even if you NG+ for the extra mode, you might give it a shot.

How come AC3 managed such pretty water, while the PS2 games had relatively ugly textures?

Look at the water in the mission where you have to follow the F/A-117 spyplane for example. The water there is pretty and reflective, and actually looks like nice drinkable fresh water.

You do know what the factories on those rivers make, right? Right?
>>
>>148120403
It's not called the garbage truck for no reason.

The gun has soviet tier accuracy, so you will literally never do 2200dpm. The tank is made of paper, so you need to hang back, which leads to tons of misses and bounces even with 100% crew. You need to play it like a TD, but it has a massive profile, and poor view range. Everyone who sees it prioritizes it because they know it has fuck all for armor and is an easy kill.

Being able to do good in the m3lee is IN SPITE of its flaws. It's not actually good.
>>
>>148120720

Nah, you just let the meatshields take the first shock, then roll in and pump full of lead the enemy team. Which applies to every paper tank really.

It's a branching path If you don't fuck up at the canyon the briefing says that it's a "illegal research facility", I don't remember if the nip version explicitly cites bio/chemical weapons. And you get the target acquisition mission from the UPEO side. If you fuck up at the canyon, either by bugging out of zapping the 117, you get the blimp.
In the next mission, you get to choose to follow Rena or go back to base. If you stick with Rena you skip the blimp mission for good, but I don't remember if the shitfest still happens or not, I guess I'll have to replay that segment.

The project nemo translation doesn't (that's where I got "research facility") but the causation would be reasonably clear if it followed on.

>>
>>148143491
Suck their dicks.
>>
>>148143491
Play the devils' advocate even if you absolutely loathe the F-35.
>>
>>148143491
Ask them for sources, and then defeat their arguments using logic when they inevitably use warisboring or pierre 'notanengineer' sprey.
>>
>>148143491
they're right.

the f-35 isn't aesthetically pleasing and given i'm never going to have my life depend on it and my country is buying it despite being a NATO sponge that would need foreign help in any attack anyway, that's literally all that matters.

it may have good performance, but that means nothing to me.
>>
>>148146269
>It doesn't look good so it's bad.

Amazing.
>>
>>148147086
it's not just appearance, and i should have made it clearer in my post that i was being relatively tongue-in-cheek.

for example the F-35 also centralizes the role of various previous fighters into various platforms, which is infinitely worse than the fact it's pretty boring looking (it's actually relatively okay looking on it's own, but when you're replacing even better looking planes that capture the imagination more...)

ultimately i have no power to stop the world changing, but i can snipe at it for doing so and drown myself in escapism.
>>
>>148147265
That complaint doesn't even make sense. Are you whining about the fact that it's a multirole?
>>
>>148148054
to a limited degree, but not really.

it's a multirole that will replace more than just another standard multirole (i.e. if it was F-16 > F-35 and everything else had a different replacement) there would be very little issue.

ultimately the problem is a reduction in the diversity of aircraft types still flying.
>>
>>148148347
Why is that a problem, from an operational standpoint?
>>
>>148148668
why must i constrain myself to an operational standpoint, especially when i've already conceded that in performance it's good?

it sucks to me personally, even if it's objectively good performing, for the effect it has on my hobbyist interests. that isn't going to change no matter what operational requirements it can meet (unless it can drop a syringe of dopamine through a basement window...)
>>
>>148148903
So your argument against the F-35 is basically 'muh feels.'

The F-35 isn't going to erase the F-16, F-15, F/A-18, and Harrier II from existence. They'll still exist, and be operated for decades to come. There are countries still flying the MiG-21 and F-4 Phantom.
>>
>>148148903
If they could rig up a Paveway III kit to the syringe, it literally could.
>>
>>148149396
>So your argument against the F-35 is basically 'muh feels.'
I never pretended anything else.

as was initially conceded, I'm not a fucking aircraft procurer for an air-force, so i have no influence whatsoever on the F-35's adoption: but i don't have to like it. it's inevitable: but i don't have to like it. i'm not going to tell lies about performance to justify that dislike, but i don't have to like it.

they'll be operated in numbers that will only reduce. tell me, how many countries operate the F-4 today? Greece and Turkey are the only two that come to mind.
>>
>>148149805
interesting, looked it up:
iran, japan, egypt and worst korea also still have F-4s and australia apparently operated them (when?)

could've sworn japan's were retired.
>>
>>148149805
Iran, Greece, and Turkey in a front line role.
Egypt, Japan and Germany in ready reserve roles.
>>

Turkish F-4Es trounce Soviet era Su-27s with 8 victories to 0 defeats.

>>148150657

The PAK FA probably will get BTFO by fucking F18's of all things if they pitted them against each other.

Are you really sure about that? I imagine they did it just like old times. Take a bunch of random peasants, teach them how to fly the thing and safely land it, don't explain them anything about the systems, let them figure the shit out at the first engagement. Survival of the fittest yadda yadda.

Ports that are THAT bad are the exception rather than the norm. >>148269878
F-16XL -EX- has a slightly better cst but less SPW ammo and a much worse selection in general, FAEB and RKTL are incredibly useful, while SOD and GPB are just bad in general.
The SU-25 -Raven- has only base cst going for it, since it has the same ammo load Oruma has, iirc, but it still remains slower.

Best ones for NTDM is the Nugget A-6 followed closely by the F2A -EX-.
Nugget's LASM load is out of this world.

So, what now. Coin planes are meh. Going to take ages to get competitive.

>>
>>148329020
The 31 is THICC and I like it, been leveling it at a good pace so it's fairly "competitive", but it's largely useless past 1500 cost and against anything else except long range targets.

Also, SAAM or LAAM? Never really bothered with TDM and PvP in general where I reckon SAAM is largely useless.
Found SAAM quite okay to snipe at unsuspecting long range foes.
>>
>>148329346
Laam all the way. Just remember to put some mobility parts for it.

I'd argue that is better than AC5's SP (solely because you can coop the entire game) and that is MP was really fun, but that's it.
>>
>>148335027
It objectively is.

More planes.
More missions.
Much more depth.

shitbisoft made a better AC than bamco

Strive for a Mobius Phantom.
>>
>>148336476
Except the plot is basically AC5 tier bad, but for entirely different reasons.

It seems like every military game that came around that time had the 'muh evil PMC' plotline.
