I got popped out of my base deconstructing a window, and I decided to take a little walk.

I had a very fun time hopping through the giant mushroom trees, but now I am very far from my home and I am lost. The way behind me is unscalable. The only way now is forward. And down.

I am now very far from my home, and I'm afraid I'm lost...

>>
>>147778387
>Will we all have to start completely new games to fully experience it?

Almost certainly. I imagine full release will break whatever saves people have.
>>
>>147778387
They're adding bits and pieces right now, the major implementation won't be until near release time. and yes, because all of the major updates breaks saves, especially when they remove terraforming in the future.
>>
>>147778651
Shieeet, well I guess it won't be so bad since I'll be able to see what the models for all those fragments look like and such when it gets to 1.0.
>>
>>147778651
>>147778683
Honestly, I kind of hope the story is all implemented at once on release so it can all stay a surprise. Tweaking the story's balance and gameplay can come post-release, but you can only experience a narrative for the first time once.

>>147779506
The closer you are to your lifepod you are the easier you are to find if the ayys are hunting you. Starting on day 15, active ayy scouts start actively looking for you. If you're still set up in the shallows you're fucked. If you're deeper or in reaper territory they'll be less likely to find you and attack your base
>>
>>147779880

>can't build a base in the shallows
>going to need to rush the fuck out of a cyclops to be permanently on the move

I can see now why it's balanced to be a mobile base rather than just a big transport vehicle. I'm guessing once the precursors get aggressive, not even being deep as fuck will protect you forever.

It sounds terrifying but also rad as hell. Though a 15 day limit seems a bit tight for new players.
>>
I find it very, very wrong that I have more gold in my lockers than I have silver, a whole lot more gold than I know what to do with. I find it absolutely abhorrent that fucking quartz is consumed so quickly and always feels like its less common than it needs to be; its used in so many electronic items but is available in only the same amounts as rare shit in the deeps.

Someone mod in some gold plated base parts so I have something to spend all this gold on.

It might be a bit of a turn off for new players who don't want to just stick to freedom.
Maybe once you build a seamoth you get 10 days to move somewhere deep and dark.

I'll be honest. The whole "captured prisoners underwater" and "freeing the sea emperor" part of this story is very bad.
It's child-like in the ways that it's creative without direction and not very fitting of the rest of the game. I'm really hoping they reconsider it, just do what all the great scifi writers do when they don't have a very good story: copy Dune.
>>

So Subnautica should be about three houses from different planets trying to gain control of the spice? We're Paul Atreides swimming around screaming "THE SLEEPER HAS AWAKENED!" and riding Reaper Leviathans against House Harkonnen's base?

>>147798026
>So Subnautica should be about three houses from different planets trying to gain control of the spice?

Be smart instead of stupid, friend. Dune is the LoTR of scifi in that it's the most "inspiring" work that "inspires" artists to slather their story with hijacked bits of it.
>>
>>147798225
And none of it applies to the story that the devs have made. Now explain how and why what they made is childish and "doesn't fit the rest of the game".

This would be like Space Engineers having some shitty plot about how other engineers are trapped in Meteor Prison and you have to get John Madden to blast them out. Also you sound like a twat so you're probably the guy behind the writing with how much you're defending it.

Potted plants should go in the bridge where there is sunlight.

Also, are there any plans to edit the layout of the Cyclops? The vehicle bay is kind of awkwardly designed because it doesn't let you reach the upgrade panel and storage compartments of the Seamoth. If there was a button to raise and lower the Seamoth and the Cyclops was edited to be slightly wider to accommodate this, that'd be great.

Having to do temperature control would be great, so you need to make heaters or air conditioners that constantly drain power to keep your base livable.

I have a reasonable computer and run it at high, only getting issues with pop-in and framerate drop when moving at full seamoth speed.

Depending on how exactly you're bottle-necked, the removal of terraforming update should boost performance.

There's several more biomes incoming, with an arctic biome in the works. Temperature will become more of a problem along with pressure, that's something they're not putting in until later. Handling the Uranium Rods for the Nuclear Reactor should require the Rad Suit, especially the spent ones. There is a defense-increasing wetsuit, it halves the damage you take from attacks, an insulating suit wouldn't be a big step away from it and would be nice to see especially if you need to work around hot vents or deep below where the temperature is very cold.
>>
>>147832757

You can get hurt by the fwooshing if you're right in it, and I think the rocks can hurt you if they hit you, similar to the falling pieces of hot metal on the Aurora. There's another vehicle upgrade in one of the consoles. One is in the reactor room, the other is in the hallway just before you go out onto the broken decks.
Otherwise the only unique thing is some coordinates that can be found in the crates in/around the ship. They just point to various formations and such on the map, places you'll come across sooner or later anyway.

guns are funs
and an essential part of a free existence

and a remarkably useful tool in a survival situation. the first two points are somewhat subjective, but this one is non-debatable fact. you CAN survive without guns, but they make survival MUCH easier.

Far more ways to resolve an issue than by pointing guns at it. Which hasn't been done and rights have been slipping for a long time. Freedom is always bound tight by restraints or you couldn't define it.
And the military isn't so shit that it can't handle some unmilitarized yokels toting small arms.
The only reason the people would triumph against the government is that most of the military would identify as part of the people being supressed. This and only this empathy and social understanding is what holds the government at bay. And it it achieved all the same with or without weapons on either side.

You have some sort of strange sexual fixation with weapons and I can't understand why.

It may be hard for you to comprehend but military actions involve more than a statistically stacked series of Call of Duty matches happening simultaneously.

Social problems are incredibly complex. Gun control or gun rights are separate approaches that may affect different circumstances in different ways. Believing that you can take one and have it apply to any number of situations better than the alternative is a fairy tale.

You also assumed that I'm anti-guns. I'm not at all. You were just blind towards the stupidity of your statement and assumed that I stood against everything you propose you stand for.
Whenever I see a gnat like you buzzing around, it makes me feel ashamed that we share a stance on anything.
It's just as bad as the sensationalist retards on the other side of the argument citing tiny occurrences as though they are evidence which trumps established statistics.

If gun rights are important enough to you that even the idea of contrary thought causes you to scream incoherently in text format, then I'll advise you go and grab one of your daddy's guns; maybe the same one he shoved up your ass as a kid to teach you an 'appreciation' for them and find out how many rounds to the roof of your mouth it takes for them to stop hurting.
You'll be doing right by that which you revere above all else if you silence your imbecilic screech from the planet once and for all.

>Just explain to me how owning a gun allow americans to act on their government.
it was actively involved in the founding of this country, and it will actively be involved when the country needs to be restarted due to the government infringing on our rights.

right now, our rights are constantly improving. civil liberties are constantly improving, despite the threat of gun bans every month, more and more people are becoming gun owners, and firearm legislation is becoming more lenient, as a result, violent crime is sharply decreasing. although we are not currently experiencing large scale tyranny, firearm rights participate in a number of lifestyle choices aside, hunting, target shooting, personal protection among these.

Yeah, nothing to discuss here. Nothing to talk about concerning how that may or may not affect the game and how/why. Nothing to talk about in just "look at the silly man and laugh" factor. No. The fact that people are talking poorly about something related a game YOU like means it is unacceptable.

Your boogeyman isn't as real as you think it is. You are just being baited. You silly sausage. If you genuinely believe they're /pol/tards then the solution is just to not respond to them. Which is also the best course of action if they are trolls, fancy that.

Just let people talk about what they want to talk about, autismo prime.

For the record: I'm also done discussing it. I honestly don't think it will have much impact on the game. I believe the person was just trying to look progressive and is just a pretentious moron. Thankfully it's a dev team and he isn't the only one with say.

Yeah it's all about that first experience really. Reapers don't scare me at all now but spawning the sea dragon made me shit my pants, and hearing DOOK DOOK before being grabbed a crab was unsettling the first go around.

I'm pretty excited for this cat and mouse stuff to be honest. Base defenses should be rad.

Do fish in your tank breed and drop additional eggs, or do you need to release them outside for that?

How the fuck do you know where to go for biomes when first starting out? Is it literally craft a compass and then go in a single direction, dumping beacons?

Fucking copper is a pain to find as well.
>>
>>147916059
you need to follow the gear progression in the crafting menu basically.

get what you need from the shallows to craft its' items, then move on to the fern area for copper and silver.

after that you can just head from your pod in the direction of the tail end of the aurora and reach the mountain island for any material you need
>>
>>147916059
Maybe there are some people who aren't, but it's quite easy to remember maps regarding stuff that you're really invested in.

You can work off really basic landmarks as well. I typically go off the aurora and the starting pod.
Before I put a beacon down I could always find my base because I knew if I was at the pod, I would look directly at a specific part of the aurora wreck, head straight towards it until I hit a biome change and then I was home.
From there I came to understand the basic area.
I haven't needed a compass yet.

For your starting minerals, check out the kelp forests, when you do find rock deposits they're typically in significant clumps.
Scan the rock deposits before mining them. Their names do differ. You will not find silver in limestone, it needs to be sandstone. If you find a bunch of limestone and need silver, don't keep on looking because they're typically grouped together with their own kind.

Kelp forest, starting shallows and maybe the grassy plains(for scanning components) is all you need to get to seamoth level of tech.
>>
>>147916728
I've managed to obtained the Seamoth, which is why I'm at a bit of a loss as to where to progress from now. I thought it would be just dive deep but the pressure upgrade seems to indicate I need to stay on the surface longer still

Might go explore the mountains as >>147916624 suggested
>>
>>147917037
I found all the moonpool and seamoth upgrade terminal parts in the mushroom forest and the koosh zone, all at around the 200 limit, you have to go below it, but it's just abandoning the seamoth and diving down another 20 or so.
>>
>>147915412
They do l lay eggs though
>>
>>147917037
Well, it's time to get the Cyclops and updater. The parts are in the next deepest biomes, mushroom first, mountains, floating islands, etc. Just try to get to ~200m while exploring and you'll run into the appropriate biomes

>>147922838
Never build your main base in the Shallows. If you need to make a temporary base with a few parts, but you're going to be moving out into deeper waters as time goes on until you find a comfy place with access to materials.
>>
>>147922838
Just hypothetical discussion about future updates. Nothing hunts you.

Shallows is pretty boring and a fair distance from the more important zones though.
>>
>>147922838

They started putting in some of the alien shit for the next update right now. One of which is the planetary gun that shot down all the ships. It will most likely rest on one of the islands, the mountains or other frequent reaper spots.

>>
>>147923873
I know the Warpers are two of the three previous maroonees. Reapers can be Precursor creations/mutations as well. Notice how they're around/close to areas with radiation and wrecks/old bases?
>>
>>147924051

Pretty sure that has to do with geography and the fact that the aurora had more people falling out of it than the twin towers.
>>
>>147922838
That is one fancy fucking base anon. Is the lower section connected to the upper one? I think I see the vertical tube there.

>>147923081
What exactly is there to get in deeper waters? More gold than we know what to do with? A Cyclops can carry back all the materials that you would ever need for the rest of the game in a single mining run.
>>
So I've been playing a few hours and seem to have crafted almost everything I can craft. I've got the builder and it seems like I can build a nice home/base. Is there really not much to do or am I retarded and have barely scratched the surface?
>>
>>147925243
I'm not sure if you're including it, but you take your scanner and go around scanning the small rectangular boxes, they kinda look like PC towers. You scan a number of them to unlock new shit to craft. There is a man size mini-sub to drive around as well as a mobile base sized sub.
There is also going to the aurora with the radiation suit and fixing the leaks.
>>
>>147925243
At the moment, once you get the Cyclops there's not much else to do progression-wise. The story's not in yet, and the Exosuit won't be in until the next big update. You can putz around in the Lost River and Lava Zones in Creative Mode, and spawn in some of the in-progress creatures to watch and examine them.

so just a question about this current build.
Dunno what im missing..
ive seen all the top layer biomes.. never a lava one tho but iunno where else to look.. The placeholder for the river biome cuz it was a large cave with large skelly n skull but nothing else in there..
ive seen crabsquid and seatreaders and there arent even eggs for those which sucks cuz i want a ground/wall-walker in my aquarium, and it just feels like ive experience everything in this build so far..
Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. Looted every wreck and theres nothing left scannable which sucks cuz i know there are other items in the game currently so i feel i might just be missing shit..

what could i be possibly missing? is there a cave of wonders thats easily missed? a creature that is only in one spot hard to find?

yeah I have a tunnel running through the outcropping connecting the lower powerplants (those four rooms at the bottom) to the upper area (those three red lines show where the tunnels are). Upper area contains living quarters, food farms and research and fabrication rooms. There's also another WIP tunnel in the back of the picture (red curved line) that leads through another cave and out into the back. As to where it would lead I'm not sure. Probably going to connect it to a store room which connects back to the food farms

Is the idea of one of the local life-forms attacking your seabase because of what type of power you use really such a thing to become angry and trollish about? Don't you want that kind of interactivity and cause/effect in the game? Or do you want everything to be static and sterile?

Unless the headcrabs are dragging the bodies out of the many rooms, corridors, and other parts of the ships the Reapers can't get to and throwing them into the water, I doubt the Reapers are getting much to eat from the ship.
>>
>>147939402
the hole in the front of the ship is angled downwards, wouldn't put it past the bodies to roll down into the ocean
>>
>>147939571
A spaceship isn't a big hollow bag, it's filled with hundreds of corridors and rooms and sections, a good amount of which were sent rocketing away during the initial crash and in the engine explosion afterward. The entire crew compliment can't just roll out of the ship.

here's the cyclops too. everything is named as a reference to another space exploration game, Metroid.

Sylux, named after the rival bounty hunter in the primes.

Magmoor, named after the creature of the same name that lives in a lava cavern in Prime 1.

AU313 (AU343 in the picture was a typo), the final boss of metroid prime 3 which controls a living planet.

Phazon, the substance which corrupts everything in the prime trilogy including AU313 hence why they are paired.

the basics are that lockers will transfer their momentum to you, so picking them up while standing on them will make you jump a bit
the advanced part is that when you deploy them just outside depth 0 at a certain angle they will fly high into the sky and transfer a lot of momentum to you, possibly sending you flying hundreds of meters in a direction

Just play it and find out, bit if you need some general direction you want to build equipment that increases your survivability at deeper levels. Oxygen tanks will slow you down so you want those plus fins, and I recommend the flotation device thing to get to the surface quicker in a pinch. Eventually you need the scanner to get the seaglide parts which will help you get deeper faster so less oxygen and more time to grab shit.

So let's do some estimates and designs.

We'll take a Bowhead whale with its huge weird mouth. Let's make it 50% longer than the Sea Emperor. Should it be slim like the space whale above or stocky like it normally is? Maybe with rough rhino-like skin that makes it immune to attack. Four lures growing ut of the back of its head like the space whale above it uses for communicating and enticing larger prey, though it normally eats like a baleen whale. And it's not aggressive or defensive, it's just so big and its mouth generates such a powerful current when it opens that you, your Seamoth, and your Cyclops would be pulled into it if you're too close for a OHKO.

I can imagine it now, actually. The turtle is always at the surface, and the top of its shell is translucent to allow light to reach the plants growing out of the skin of its back, whose roots tranfer the food made from photosynthesis to the turtle. Some insect-like creatures that pollinate the plants and whose droppings and dead bodies break down and are absorbed by the turtle as well and also feed the plants. Special structures in the shell constantly drip filtered water onto the biome, like a constant gentle drizzle falling, watering the plants and keeping the skin pliable.

Using the flashlight on your seaglide drains the battery about 50% faster. On the Seamoth the flashlight battery drain is next to unnoticeable. Just don't leave the Seamoth's lights on when you're just chilling in your own base.
>>
Anyone know why my max power changes from 500 to 475 every few seconds?
>>
The capacity of power cells seriously needs to be nerfed. They're essentially two batteries strapped together yet they can carry like 100x the charge of a single battery. With this kind of magic nonsensical technology all it does is make me wish there was a Seaglide that accepted a power cell instead of a battery.

Less power can be balanced around there being 6 upgrade modules instead of 4 (with more choices like a speed upgrade for the Moth) so that power upgrades like the solar charger have a place to go. At this stage they're not very desirable at all because you can run dozens of laps around the entire map in a Seamoth and still have plenty left. Same thing for the Cyclops.
>>
>>148008120
For some reason the capacity from a solar panel seems to only count when it has at least 1 energy in it. If all of the energy is drained from heavy use it gets removed from the total. At least that's my theory. If you want a temporary fix you can go around your base and see which panels have a flickering power line and try rebuilding them.
>>
>>148008840
Maybe just make the cell require lithium or somesuch to produce, and have the rechargers require a little material in addition to base power.
>>
>>147997923
You have to use the terraformer first.

>>
>>148010828

Just wait until introduce a flying predator to make living on the island dangerous.
>>
>>148009040
Yes, I forgot about lithium. But really they should be used to make better versions of batteries and power cells and the blueprint has to be found in some of the deeper biomes, because needing lithium to create a Seamoth when you need to go into reaper / crabsnek territory to get lithium is maybe a bit too much. Then those lithium power cells can more closely emulate the density of our current ones.

Maybe introduce difficulty levels to the game so that harder difficulties place important materials further and further into dangerous territory?
>>
>>148010253
Yes, and probably, if you're fast enough.
>>
>>148008840
Not sure if bait, but power cells last so long because of something called an alternator, which flashlights, scanners and the seaglide obviously don't have.

Something those huge fucks can eat. Seriously, to have huge predators, you need even larger, or only slightly smaller but numerous prey. So far only reefbacks qualify, and there's not that many of them.

New to the game, but I gave this thread a glance, so apparently I shouldn't put my base in the shallows? What's the most recommended place for a newbie? My first little place was right at the mouth of the cave that has that big hole, the cave right next to the red grassy area. I thought it'd be a good idea to have easy access to whatever is down there.
>>
>>148018768
You can put it wherever, really. Deeper bases can just be more exciting/challenging.
>>
After the update, my game keeps stuttering like crazy until it eventually crashed by the time I got to the creepervine forest

What the fuck did they do? It's taking about 3 times the memory now
>>
>>148018768
You should place your base somewhere where you have easy access to both common materials (titanium, quartz, copper and creepwine) and more rarer materials (lithium, silver, gold and diamonds)

personally I got a base on the red grassy platue between two creepwine forest, only a stone throw away from a mushroom forest and underwater islands

I am beginning to get SOMA vibes from all this.
Still hoping for less squeaky-clean bases and scarier depths.

Which area has high temperature spots suitable for thermal generators that are closest to the surface? The Koosh zone caves?

I want to start making a deep pitstop base where I can start to try and find and explore the lava zones, building small bases all the way to the bottom. This is survival so there will probably be about a dozen scuba tanks involved at any point, since the Seamoth can only go to 900m.
>>
How do I scan with my drones? The scanning location of the room doesn't seem to change with the drone loaction.
>>
>>148026038
They're slow enough, don't forget your ultraglide fins!
>>
It'd be nice if you could pacify some of the creatures in different ways. Like using the shock defense on the seamoth makes them in your friendly. Or using the eco device makes the dook dooks not try and dook you.

Maybe reapers will be your friend if you slam them with the Cyclops.

No, and it's fucking stupid that we can't. You can literally put a ladder in the middle when two multipurpose rooms are stacked, but that's it. You need to stack multipurpose rooms if you want a tower.

I've learned how to make water and food from caught fish, thats pretty much it. Coming on to night 2 now.

What do?
>>
>>148031094
I haven't tried, so you mean that they can't be attached on top of rooms? Then what he needs to do is build a second construction tower upwards first to hold the room in place, then build vertical connectors downwards to reach the floor where he wants the bottom room to be. Deconstruct the initial tower afterwards.

At least, that's if the game considers the bottom room to be validly attached to the ground and allows you to deconstruct the other tower after that. I really don't have the time to test this right now.
>>
>>148034213

When do I expand my storage capacity? I feel like all of this shit will be useful at some point.

Also.

>dat pile of loot being guarded by sandsharks
>>
>>148037061
Whenever you want. use 6 titanium to make a small base room and fill it with lockers
>>
>>148037206
Won't I need the habitat builder for that?

I can only make the deployable locker atm.
>>
>>148037992
Yeah, I usually work toward that as soon as i get a seaglide. You can get all the materials for it in the shallows and nearby kelp forest.
>>
>>148037992
When you first start, don't try to horde things. Just collect the bare essentials so you can work up to getting the habitat builder: two tanks, flippers, scanner, and welder. Then look for builder blueprints, build a builder, and make a temporary base where you can store stuff. Then you can go wild hording resources.
>>
>>148037992
Try not to make too many deployable lockers. You'll feel like you've wasted way too much titanium on them eventually when base lockers are superior and you start needing more rooms.

I can't bear to throw all of mine away on the off chance they'll be useful again. Right now I've got a locker that is dedicated to holding a floating locker that has all the rest of the floating lockers inside of it.
>>
>>148037061

You're going to need about 5-6 pieces of silver just for entry level.

Silver is collected at depth 50 to 80.
Copper is 0 to 70 or so.
Gold is 80 to 200.
Diamond is 200 or so, but the terrain depends.

Everything else is 200 beyond or dependent on terrain.

Salt and quarts just likes sand.
>>
>>148011791

The Cyclops is already fuckhuge for the size of the game world, any larger and you'll just get stuck everywhere.
>>
>>148038929

The lockers are great for amassing materials near potential outposts. This way when you are ready to establish a position you've got all the shit you've been collecting there ready for consumption.
