Currently level 64 and just beat Scorpioness Najka. That whole area fucking sucked. Decided to summon an NPC for it because the Quelaag-but-not-fun shit was silly and I have no way to fight toxic if I get hit.

I'm unsure how I feel about Dark Souls 2 introducing all the shit it does. It introduces a lot of generic fantasy tripe. Dwarves, goblins, trolls. Expecting elves to pop up any second now.

Just go offline, drop a fading soul, turn it into your weapon and done. I decided to use it after farming for a rotten ghru sword for an hour. I GOT 3 SWORD GRASS BEFORE A SINGLE ROTTEN GRU SWORD. Fist weapons have been buffed several times over

They still have no good poke
But, their damage is pretty solid now.

Basically, your only attack that has any reach, any speed and any ability to catch rolls or punish mistakes is your running L1. You basically just spam that while trying to avoid getting your ass parried and fish for oppourtunities to abuse your WA.

Cestus have Perseverance, which is basically a retard check and lets you get 700 damage L1 combos on idiots all day. It hardcounters thrusting swords and claws but is pretty unspectacular otherwise

Demon's Fist has an unparryable hyperarmor spin that hits quickly (and now works properly!) and typically deals about 600 damage into hard knockdown

Claws have their jumping slash, which also now works properly, and is also an unparryable HA attack. It staggers immediately upon leaving the ground, making you unchallengable up close, and leads into a high damage headshot that also combos into a pair of L1s for big damage and instant bleed if rouge is on.

Manikin Claws have quickstep, but they don't have any attack fast enough to use out of a quickstep so it's kinda useless. Incidentally, these are the worst fist weapon now.

Well, not in fighting games for instance. Fighting games are generally designed such that aggression is required to win, and complete passivity quickly leads to losing all advantage and then most likely losing. They're also balanced so that options are roughly equal. Souls design is bad in that sense, because it's always better to incentivize aggression (the fight progressing toward a conclusion) and not incentivize passivity (nothing happening and everyone getting bored).

But I think it's important to understand in Souls games that when you go dueling, you are using a system to do something it was not intended to do. They certainly make an effort to balance out player abilities in PvP, but even that is with normal invasions in mind, not 1v1 situations with no healing and free time to buff in. So necessarily, if you want the dueling situation to be interesting at all, it is extremely helpful to decide things like "drinking estus makes dueling shitty, so nobody should do it" or even do things like "this weapon is too powerful, nobody should use it." It's a pretty close analogue to competitive Super Smash Brothers, for example; that's not designed to be a competitive, balanced fighting game, but you can force that on it if you can agree to ban things that make it imbalanced. Similarly, Souls dueling is definitely improved by the no-healing rule and the idea of SL limits, and would probably be improved further by other kind of equipment limits.

Well, if people could agree on those things, which seems impossible for this community to do. About the only rule anyone can reliably stand by is not chugging during duels, and even that one gets broken from time to time.

Pyromancy now has int/fth requirements, and is much more scaling-dependent than ever before. They also cut a tonne of its spells and made existing ones worse.

Hexes had 90% of their spells cut. They are no longer their own spell class, and are now just attached to the others. In other words, a "dark"caster needs all 3 casting tools at once. Dark spells still scale with int and faith, but only 1 of each casting tool actually has both scaling types for them to take advantage of. Dark has the worst weapon buff in the game, and it only has 1 spell that's actually useful for pve. None of its spells are useful for pvp.

Faith was similarly slaughtered.
