for real invasions either SL10 with +0 weapons at high wall, 15-20 with +2 at the settlement, 25 with +3-4 at the farron swamp, 25-35 for Catacombs and Cathedral, 35-50 with +6 for irithyll, 50-60 for aldritch, 60-70 with +8-10 for the Castle and Dragoncock.

Higher levels are better for dried finger runs. 100-130 works godly for this, i've just finished an hour long hosting session at the farron swamp and got a fuckton of activity.

80 is an abomination that is too high to generally catch people in ng and too weak compared to SL100+ builds they will regularly invade, it's a garbage meta that Kobra was trying to force in /bbg/ and that for some unknown reason was forced really hard here despite it being bumblefuck retarded.

It has relatively high damage raw, so it's good for a SL80-120 buff build that wants to drop 60 in a magic stat. SS moveset is reliable for PvE and even PvP if you're playing smart.

Well those are all valid points, anon, but I still had fun and a moderate amount of success with it looking back. In a game where you have Sunlight Blade Lightning Infused Estocs 3 shotting you despite having 40 vig, pretty much any weapon that doesn't have 600AR (which makes up the vast majority of DS2 weapons) is unusable trash by /dsg/ standards. Its fun making things like the ISS work

What's holding me back at this point is all the rumours I've been hearing about hackers at 120 with 99 in all stats and "low" speedhacks

I've already encountered a few of these at 80 but it's pretty rare, usually only 1 person in a sitting. If leveling up is going to increase the frequency that I have to deal with blatant cheaters, I want no part of it.

66 str while 2H gives you 99 effective strength.
Unlike DaS1, where weapons had a scaling hardcap based on their letter rank, and only A/S scaling weapons went effectively beyond 40, everything continues to gain gradually diminishing returns all the way up to 99. Yhorm's, with B strength scaling, gains more than 100 AR when you compare 40str 1H to 66 2H.

Since 66 str is less of a stat investment than 40/40, there's basically no reason not to go there. Any level that could viably field a 40/40 quality build can field a 66 str build to get comparable scaling damage and a few spare points for some more END or whatever. Any strength weapon with B or higher is definitely worth the 26 extra points over 40 str.

Incidentally, this is also why hackers that set all their stats to 99 have such a huge advantage. Unlike DaS1, where softcaps were harsh enough to where a max level build didn't have a crushing advantage over a 120 build, everything in 3 except for endurance and vigor continues to scale well up to 99. It results in builds that have 50 flat damage reduction and 100 AR over you on virtually everything.

What's the highest SL I can be and not be matched with 120's?
