So only suitable ringbearers for ring are h and p ? I noticed orcs just attack me like hounds or other non-sentients. Also what are good ringbearers for levels 25+? I got myself a dark elf lord that has basically everything i need right now, but i will need to hop soon. Also, is there any hope for me to be able to farm dragons in the mountains?

A, L and V are also ridable, though the latter two tend to just die to fire. The angel line is very strong, probably the best non-uniques (and uniques are hard to control) because they eventually have rBase and good spells. Monks and mystics are good during the part of the game where melee pets are useful (like now).

How does that ringbearer mode work? How do you lose?

you're a cavalry wizard

the ringbearer is a mount and it has an hp bar but you, the ring, have a separate hp bar. just like a cavalry riding a horse except cooler

if your mount dies you fall to the ground and can't move, although you can still cast spells or read ?tele, etc and can use your powers to summon/attract/charm a new ringbearer

How do you play a Deep Dwarf caster? I tried a DDNe but got my shit stomped when Menkaure, Grinder and Blork all appeared on the same level. Are you supposed to grab Regeneration and Vampiric healing to meme it up and never use the wand of HW again?

An ogre (or any enemy) is not worth the same amount of XP at different points in the run though.
As you level, Crawl divides the experience you receive from kills by an ever-increasing amount until level 25, where it stops at something like 1/255 XP.

Its 26 for mindelay, which means its 20 for 1 delay. You do NOT want to invest 20 into anything for such a marginal return. If you invested that into magic, you would be very close to having cblink/tornado/shatter online. Or you could just dump all that experience into fighting/dodging and so on.

You could very easily miss, or hit but the AM didn't proc. 3 full turns is a good amount of time when fighting such dangerous opponents. That is 3-4 potential firestorms from Cerebov, 6 potential weapon swings if you're meleeing him and an even longer amount of time if there are dangerous enemies with torment/hellfire around.

Do abyss -> Pan -> Hell. Hell requires more moxie than pan because very often you can't rest to restore your HP/MP. Killing TRJ with high HP remaining often doesn't mean much because he is an exercise in synergy or raw power. Pan and Hell are more about endurance mixed in with being able to output enough damage to push over a panlord, or just steal the rune.

That one guy from last night was right about training shields on an unarmed ghoul. The very shield I referred to then helped me from the ending of the Snake Pit to this very finale.

I got the Abyssal rune for the first time in this run. It wasn't too bad but the cancer stars were very annoying. Disregarding Oka for Lucy probably wasn't the brightest idea, though.

Hoard scrolls for plate/scale or a glaive/hammer, don't waste them on lower stuff unless it's a tempered longsword/axe
Modifying items in any way resets their degradation. If you can, save upgrade scrolls, branding sticks and balancing stones for as long as possible
Stay away from water when near gnoll shamans
If you find a D4 fly swarm, lure it to a corridor, unequip your weapon and farm it for health potions

I've never played an angband variant before, and I'm trying to get started on poschengband. The game seems so much more opaque than I'm used to, though. I've read the help files, I've read the pasta, but I still feel like I'm completely in the dark on most things.

Are angband variants typically far longer to play than that other big names? Most of my deaths are coming around level 4-5 of the stronghold, generally from stumbling into huge groups of enemies and underestimating their strength. Is there any kind of penalty for being in combat with more than one monster at once?

Stairdancing is not an option. My first tp sent me south with those two ettins and a vault warden on a corridor. Killing the first ettin was fine since he was the only one hitting me but when that vault warden joined they kinda destroyed me. I can't risk not berserking because I have no HW nor Ely's Greater Healing left to risk getting outdps'd

When does door jamming stop being useful? Is a STR check used to determine if a monster or humanoid can bash it? I've never seen any txt elucidating the mechanics of jamming exactly. I've used it to bar whole vaults of monsters but generally i don't live long enough to see how long the jam will stick for.

Has constriction been buffed? Sneks seem to be hitting through 20/30 defenses for 20~ very consistently. Very spooky and a little reminiscent of old constriction. Or maybe I've just been playing too many high HP tablords lately?
