It's because SP is mismanaged. They haven't had a single year that they've been in the black despite having ridiculous advantages in this market since the start. Dovac is a retard and overspends to get licenses, draining all the Kikestarter and OELVN money away. He's basically in a race to get all 'dem BIG NAME VNs, when the reality is that they that profitable and marginally risky unless you manage to have a good deal or a Kickstarter. To make things worse, since Dovac sucks at business, he overpays for everything.

Contrast to MG who is used to working with low inventory movement, so they tend to make percentage based deals combined with lower prices, and aren't afraid to not pursue more popular titles. They tend to go after middle-of-the-market moege and niche titles, usually older ones that are affordable. Generally speaking, MG is presently very well-managed and will survive for the decades to come, and has been for years, thus creating a very good reputation and general goodwill that none of the other competitors have. Sekai Project is built on a rickety foundation. Worse, the situation might be so bad that the reason he desperately keeps localizing everything under the sun that has a nearly complete fanlation is because of the almost immediate profit, which helps to get around his cashflow issues. It's only a matter of time until Dovac's house of cards collapses under it's own weight.

I'm not worried about MangaGamer, they're playing the long game for the companies they work with. I'm disappointed that they're going for Maggot Baits (it's really one of ClockUp's mediocre titles out of all the ones I've played but that's me), but I expect something out of the Alicesoft partnership and stuff and other future partnerships. Weaker titles or titles that aren't as popular to get your foot in the door and convince japanese companies to work with you (and prove you do decent quality work without having to shill for Kickstarters) and get you later titles (As in Rance or Evenicle for Alicesoft, other titles for other companies. Trying to do anything to please Lilith as a company is near impossible so I've given up hope on that ages ago.)

For me it's more about the grounded approach and the atmosphere. I like both as well but have always preferred Tsuki for those reasons.

Evenicle was only released last year and has a good chance of becoming a flagship.

If MG have the clout to get that they have the clout to get Rance which they'll go for because it's the bigger name and because of all the shit they copped from doing Haruka over Rance.

For the older games everything before 5D is freeware anyway.
Rance 5D is too old and too mediocre to get localised. But it's not a particularly important game.

5D is also 100 translated and edited just not to be released.

They have remade 01 and 03.

But not IV. 01 and 03 also reference a lot of the later games a fair bit.

You can definitely play VI without them and let's face it most Japanese players did.

Optimal release order would probably be something like

VI (+5D maybe), 01 + (2 maybe), Quest + Magnum, 03, 04, IX, X

Even then this tl can be a bit iffy. You can tell it didn't go through a heavy editing process at all. And there's weird stuff like translating "Jiiii" to "Yo" but then other times they translate it as "[Stare]" like it should be.
