It's a difficult situation. After reading the comments I feel like most of the people aren't upset that they ended up giving the TL out, but they're upset that they have to pay Dovac and his cronies to support the original publisher.

The VN community is autistic as fuck and they don't forget slights against them. Sekai fucked up numerous times with PR, delays, and censorship and people remember that; grudges go a very long way. And, putting aside whether IroSeka/Astral will be licensed by SP or not, IroSeka has a very good psv version which I personally even deem to be better because the h-stuff can be disruptive at times, so I can pretty much guarantee you even the all-ages steam version would turn out to be awesome and the same will probably go for AstralAir (the psv version isn’t out yet). The difference and main issue is whether or not an 18+ patch will be available from the get-go. MG is pretty good about this, while Sekai has been variable about their Denpa versions. An uncensored product should always be available from the start and there's an obvious market for it since things like G-Senjou and the recent Grisaia both sold like shit and neither had 18+ patches (Grisaia will eventually get one, but who knows how long that will take, many more months? And then you have to pay 10 bucks for it most likely). Amongst complainers, a great deal of them cite the lack of an unrated version causing their non-purchase.

And I believe that a (smaller) market could exist off of steam. Probably not for Sekai in it's current state since they need those mad steam bucks to off-set the fact that they're bleeding so much money, but stuff like Euphoria sold very well for Mangagamer last year.

Yes. Look at Nekopara. Even my normalfag friends know about it, a few even have a copy. None of them like anime at all. It's sad, but that's how it is.

Then again Nekopara is cheap as dirt and when you factor in the cuts that Steam (30%) and Nekoworks takes (probably 30-50%), Sekai are probaby not left with much. Especially since a lot of the Nekopara sales come from Steam Sales.

Sometimes it may indeed be a publisher issue. Not from Sekai but from whomever they're working with. I'm not defending Sekai, but people seem to be suggesting that GIGA might've been the one to have suggested the All-Ages version of Baldr. Not sure how true that is, of course, but it's possible considering their history.

on the other hand, it's kind of a nice perk to 'technically' work for Sekai, it means you get a complimentary copy of almost all their releases on Steam.

Yet nobody blames MG for that because they know it's Frontwing's work on it that's causing the delaying. G-Senjou was a result of Akabei being against 18+ release, and the voice thing was also their idea (obvious by the Sharin prefundia thing with the in-game music player). In these cases, they can't exactly just say no or they risk the original creator just bailing out of the deal.
