Interesting how it fell from use over time. It was meta back in the early days because its lack of accuracy meant people that couldn't work out motion controls could actually hit something. Now it's pretty crap, to the point where giving it the best Sub and best Special is balanced.

The Aerospray RG was meta because of how easy it was to get top turf covered thanks to it's fast turf coverage, high ink efficiency and Inkstrike Special. The only other contender was the Inkbrush. But then the N-Zap '89 came out and pretty much destroyed its niche.

In ranked it was pretty mediocre at the beginning because it sort of had something for everything. It had Inkstrike for neutralising or taking the Splat Zone and Ink mine for causing trouble on the tower coupled with its good time to kill when kissing the enemy inkling, The Luna Blaster pretty much put an end to that since hiding behind the pole to force the enemy to come to you couldn't protect you from blind Luna Blaster shots to clean the tower.

I plan to use it for the final Splatfest though. Gotta see Splatfest off with my favourite weapon.

Your writing is great! Your use of tone is definitely something I'd like to be able to do, really getting into the observations of the characters than those of an omniscient narrator
I think that your "character reading" is absolutely fine; while you should obviously strive to use scenery to represent characters as well, it's hardly a vital aspect in a fic like this
One thing that you should definitely strive to work on is sentence variation; many, many of your sentences will simply progress as subject-object-verb, which can really kill the flow of the story
Case in point: The short section you posted uses the word, or at least contains the sequence, "she" 196 times
To compare, my entire Callie and Marie cafe fic only clocks in at having the sequence "she" 119 times
It's not like you have some sort of word quota you need to fulfill or go under, but it still goes to show

I don't hate Splatfest at all niggergee.
That's what it essentially is.
But good god would being able to play a different song once in a while be welcome. It's good, but gets so repetitive so quickly.

Maybe for the final splatfest team marie will get "tides go out" as their battle theme while callie gets "tokimeki bomb rush" for their theme.
I'd like that a lot, tides go out is great.
