So, what are some headcanons you all have come up with to make some things in 4 make sense?

One of mine is that the power armor worn in all the other fallout games are smaller more advanced versions that don't require the rig you use in 4.

The benefit of the power armor rigs is that any type of power armor pieces can be snapped on or off and more heavily customized than the power armor that we use in the other fallout games. The big downsides of using the rigs are that they are slower to move around in, and they are essentially gas guzzlers, sucking up energy from fission cores at ludicrous speed.

I'm planning a crossover fancomic/fanfic where the New Vegas characters go to the Commonwealth. However to prevent things from getting too crowded, I've decided to cut the number of NV companions that appear in the story.

Right now I'm having trouble deciding between Cass and Raul. I think Raul would be interesting to have around since he has a pre-war perspective not unlike SS and Nick, and he also has a penchant for costumed heroics, which would jive with with Hancock and SS (Silver Shroud).

Although Cass likes booze and parties which could fit in with Hancock, Cait, and maybe Deacon. And being a legacy character, she also may end up lending a unique perspective on the earlier Fallouts (which won't otherwise be really featured in the fic.) I've also been looking around various polls, and it seems like Cass is a much more popular character than Raul. Considering the fancomic/fanfic is meant to be really just one big self-indulgent fanon-laden wankfest, I figure it makes more sense to include the character more people want to see.

Brahmin cage requires razorgrain to bait

You can capture Mirelurks, Deathclaws, Radstags, and other creatures.
>>
>>147226505
It does.

Was wandering out near the edge of the glowing sea, when a radstorm blew in. Toss on some anti-rad gear, and pop some Rad-X, and then keep going.

Then I heard gurgles from behind.

A decent sized pack ambushed me from behind, and ended up turning the whole thing into a fairly interesting diversion from what would otherwise have been a pretty boring walk from points A to B.

Oh I didn't even notice the cages. I never thought of using captured brahmin to generate fertilizer - does that work (up to two I guess)?

I'm not sure actually. If you have Contraptions and Manufacturing extended you can butcher them into components.

Speaking of which, has anyone here made a guide of what creature gives what? I know feral ghouls give 1 nuclear material. Might be useful to make a ghoul butchering plant just for the nuclear material.

>>147231746

I dunno. Probably a lot faster than the hats. Perhaps within 4-5 days, depending on how much I feel like working on it and all. The bgsms and textures are *pretty much* mostly done.

Are you sure the cap is two brahmin? These lines from WorkshopScript suggest it might be three:

It doesn't help that Raul is voiced by Danny Fucking Trejo, and that Cass's voice actress is boring and monotone as fuck.

God help me, every time I have to hear her say this line,
>Drinking to forget, and it's only getting me mad instead. Whiskey always gets my temper up - now more than ever.
Instead of sounding angry or desperate or even just plain *drunk*, she just sounds sleepy.

It's also a shame that Cass doesn't get much characterization outside of being an alcoholic, being angry, and being patriotic. There was plenty of room for more, but the way her quest works out, it feels like you don't talk to her much. At the very least, I've seen her handled really well in some fanfiction.

I want to use the caravan card game thing
>>
>>147232637
Okay. I'm gonna rant. Bear with me. New Vegas's Big Theme was about the struggle between staying in the past and moving on to the future. Most of the time, these decisions are Important, having big impact on the fates of all the characters that face them. Most of the companion characters, especially the ones in Dead Money face this. The battle over the Mojave is one big kerfuffle of "which echo of the old world will win--the corrupt democracy, rampant capitalism, or Romans in football pads?"

Then you have Cass. Cass doesn't struggle with "letting go" the same way most of the other companions do. Her companion quest is about *how* to do something she's already dead set on doing: getting revenge on Crimson Caravans and the Van Graffs. Either way, she gets her revenge. "Letting go" is never an option.

So *does* Cassidy face this dilemma? Well, it's when she sells her caravan company, right? She has to either let go of her company or stay in the Outpost indefinately. But as far as the game is concerned, this doesn't even count as a dilemma , because we can't explore both options. Because it's either "she's now your companion" or "nothing happens." There's no ending slide for Cass if she never leaves the Mojave Outpost. To the game, before she leaves the Outpost, she might as well not exist.

Once she is your companion, once she's *in* the game, she doesn't do anything, struggle with anything. There's no internal conflict, nothing for her character to adapt to other than decide on *how* she gets her revenge. While the method you choose affects an ending slide, this slides has nothing to do with Cass herself. Cass's fate is merely dependent upon whether she survives and remains a companion with the Courier, and which faction wins. All her character arc amounts to is one of two perks, its effect lasting until the end of the game and not a second after. Her character arc may as well have been helping her decide what new hat she wanted.

>>
>>147233913
There are two endings to her revenge story, though. One is letting the authorities handle it, thus letting go of her bloodlust, and the other has her raising hell all over the Mojave with blood in her wake and not letting go of anything except her caravan. All you really posted was trite bullshit that fits your worldview instead of the reality of Cass' story, no matter your choices for her. Hell, by your standards, the only character who can actually let go is Lily because if she takes her meds at full doses or stops taking them all together she'll forget her past and let go of it entirely.

On the other hand, while Raul may be by far the most entertaining/charismatic companion just to talk to, his characterization got a little screwed because (I assume) the writers realized at the last minute that Ulysses wasn't going to make it into the main game, and that they needed one companion to at least be sympathetic towards the Legion. So they picked Raul, even though the Legion's MO is kidnapping and raping women, and the two most tragic events in Raul's past revolve around women he cared for getting kidnapped and raped. Raul of course neglects to mention this for no reason at all, in favor of focusing on "well their caravans sure are safe!" Like I give a shit about caravans.

Not to mention that *his* companion quest is largely rendered moot by his concerns ultimately being entirely unjustified. Raul's main problem is he worries he's too old for his guns, but if you encourage him to pick up his guns, he's totally fine. Turns out he wasn't too old after all.

I liked that the writer used Raul's age to his advantage. He's old enough to have flipped and and forth between the "holding on/letting go" schtick. But this didn't end up being the focus of his concerns. It was just an age thing, which went nowhere. Not to mention being a full-time Vaquero didn't magically make Raul forget how to repair shit if he ever felt like picking it up again. Eh, maybe that's the point. "Old School Ghoul" might just be about Raul flip-flopping again.

I mean how can you stand it? a mirelurk oneshotted me and I replay an hour of game only to find out something glitched, and I don't even know how far back I need to go to get unscrewed. Even if I did I get to redo the whole molerat den.

You literally just made that up. The two ending slides affected by Heartache by the Number only discuss the ramifications it had on the NCR, the Crimson Caravans, the Van Graffs, and potentially the Gun Runners. Not Cass.

And yes, Cass does initially want to just go guns blazing, and you can dissuade her from it. Which is *technically* Cass "letting go" of that plan, but IMO that's pretty weak. It isn't choosing one of two distinct paths, it's just the method for traveling on a single one. Neither choice leads to any real consequence, and to act without consequence is boring and unrewarding.

I'm not trying to argue Cass has 0 story. I'm arguing that hers is weaker compared to other characters'. And that makes her less interesting than them, to me, personally. I'm definitely not saying why OTHER people should dislike Cass. People can like characters for whatever the fuck reason they want. Boone's so popular because he's damn useful in fights, and that's fine and dandy with me. If people like Cass because they like her personality, or because they like redheads, or because they like how she's John Cassidy's daughter, well that's fine and dandy with me too.

I'm not trying to make definitive statements on the state of Fallout: New Vegas. I realize now that my rant came off as assertive, too final, and I apologize for any misunderstanding.

I'm just trying to say why I'm inclined to cut her from my crossover fanfiction gosh darn it.
>>
>>147235382
I just took issue when you said she doesn't "let go" like everyone else because it's patently false. The simple fact of her dialog change and the perk after the quest denotes her letting go of her anger and bloodlust that she had prior. It's no different than Boone letting go of his deathwish.

They do get harvested and stored. You can also harvest them to get a little extra. That farm generates like 90 tatos every hour. If you want to make vegetable starch (adhesive) in bulk quantities you will need to make a lot of corn, tato, and mutfruit farms.

If you're new to the game, I advise you to also build a giant water farm. Its a great way to earn caps and have for bartering with in general.

Hm, well, by far my favorites would be the New Vegas series by a person called zel. Their writing is fantastic, and I love the extra effort put into the world they created. I can honestly say that this is the only OC Courier in a fanfiction that I've really liked. I can't say enough how much I like these fanfictions. They're some of my favorite of all time.

Do take it all with a grain of salt, however. There's a few places the series will bend canon, but I don't think it's anything too severe. It's also important to keep in mind that much of the worldbuilding and headcanon of this series was devised *before* Honest Hearts was released. Why that's significant, I won't say, but you'll probably catch on.

Also, I should mention: The series pairs a gay Courier with Arcade. There's some sex, though the series is far from an excuse for porn. If it's really not your thing, then only read the first story in this list.

Lastly, important to note: the series never completed.

Face the Music and Dance
http://archiveofourown.org/works/771023
Chronologically the first story. A made-up scenario taking place two years after the First Battle of Hoover Damn. NCR Officers stay at the Ultra Luxe for a conference, but shit goes down. Written from multiple perspectives, but focuses heavily on Picus (Captain Curtis from Camp MacCarran).
>I was going to get angry, but this turned out better than I thought. You weird, creepy little bastard.

Vincit qui se vincit
http://archiveofourown.org/works/199690
A Courier story, featuring Arcade, Boone, Veronica, and ED-E. Touches on events like Repconn, Nelson, Fiend bounty hunting, and part of Boone's quest. This was the first story written, so it's a little rough in terms of editing, but it's no less pleasant to read.
>Some day they will say that a legendary alliance was formed in the blood of a little old lady.

The Lion Sleeps Tonight
http://archiveofourown.org/works/869660
A bit of a fluff piece taking place sometime after the previous story. Starring Cass, Boone, and Arcade as they wait around Goodsprings as the Courier's off tracking down a NCR deserter. Not quite worth reading this one on its own since not much happens, but if you liked the other stories then by all means.
>Oh come off it. Boone's high, happy, and talkative. He comes in here, I bet you he makes you an omelet, sits down way too close to you, and tries to get you to look at his johnson.

Cry Havoc
http://archiveofourown.org/works/169756
A continuation of the series, this time mostly told from the perspective of Legion characters. Vulpes, Caesar, and others. There's a lot of backstory in this one, most of which is made up by the author. Please don't let that put you off. Shit gets REAL.
>Caesar idly wonders how and when so many stammering virgins came to join the ranks of the frumentarii.

I doubt its going to happen now after all this time, but we've still got two more DLCs.

I kinda doubt it at this point, though. If anything I bet Nuka World will involve Piper and the guy who sided with the Raiders that murdered her dad. She doesn't really seem to talk about her dad much or have a sad / vengeful outlook about the incident but I wouldn't be surprised if that DLC had way more Piper related stuff in it.

Pretty sure it came down to envy. NV was a better game than 3 despite Obsidian continually getting the short end of the stick. >>
Why are companions in FO4 so shit? In New Vegas, give Boone an AMR or Veronica a Ballistic Fist and you can basically sit back and watch them mow down everything, even with 1 in Charisma.

But in 4, I can give companions the best weapons I can find and they are still completely useless. None of them can aim for shit. Only the Automatron robots come close to being good but they can't aim either. I have literally never seen any of my companions being useful in combat.

True, they just forgot to steal the talent from Obsidian along with it. Obsidian's story was engaging, and all of the factions were fun to roleplay in.

>>
>>147243579
I think what he meant to say was copy Fallout New Vegas well.

For all of the flaws of the NCR and corruption seeding into its leadership, you can see that the people on the frontline just want to keep those around them safe. That sensible altruism makes them a likeable faction.

Bethesda can't do morally grey. Look at MacCready in Fallout 4 who I'd argue is supposed to be the most middle ground companion of them all. If it wasn't for the outfit I'd consider him a fucking Raider based on his responses in most conversations. He's supposed to be cleaning up his act as a promise to his son, but nothing ever suggests he's even attempting it besides sometimes remembering not to swear. All of his likes come from you being an asshole and stealing shit.
>>
>>147243957
>None of them can aim for shit
Yea, just give them tanky armor and melee weapons and shoot enemies while they're distracted. Companion aim is so shitty, even worse considering Fo4 enemies can somehow hit you consistently from really far away with their pipe pistols.
>>
>>147243957
Dogmeat is useless after lvl 20, but I let him stick around because doggo is cute. Danse can wreck some serious shit with just about anything. The other companions might need a legendary or two to synergize with their traits or to shore up their shortcomings. Try giving Strong a Bloodied supersledge and you won't be disappointed.
>>
>>147244469

So if you take every dog-related perk and deck him out in armor, he still isn't useful after 20?
>>
>>147244203
yeah that's the problem with Bethesda's grey morality.

They seem to take the approach that grey morality means "A choice of two turds" rather than what's right based on perspective. For examples of this, look to the "moral" decision in the Pitt, the choice in Skyrim's Civil War and to a degree Fallout 4's main factions, although Fallout 4's factions are so underdeveloped and dull that it's difficult to even notice.
>>
Nuka World is going to flesh out the Gunners more, right? We get little to no backstory about them other than 'they like money' and that they have a ranking system similar to the military. It would be cool if the leader of the gunners was in Nuka World.
>>
>>147244000
>So far I feel nothing but contempt for anything main quest related in 4.
Odd, because thats exactly how I feel about NV's plot and factions.
By biggest problem with New Vegas's plot is that, as Sawyer himself has admitted, the game gives you no reason to go after Benny.

You are a courier who has worked the wasteland for years, and has likely gotten shot, or shot at, by any number of raiders or other hostile groups over the years, and yet its unlikely that they spend months tracking them, through hundreds of miles of hostile desert, not to mention a desert in the middle of a massive war, to track them down and take revenge.

Then, when you get to Vegas, every major faction jumps your dick for basically no reason other then "you walked to Vegas" and tell you that you are their only hope of winning the war, only to then send you on a bunch of rather pointless diplomacy mission that have nothing to do with actually winning the war.

None of it adds up at all, its a series of totally random non sequitur moments.

To make matters worse, none of the factions ever actually DO anything themselves, making all of their claims of being so great hollow.

And the companions are nothing but mindless robots who constantly complain about having life problems, yet refuse to take any action on them unless you drag them kicking and screaming, and then after its all over, they lack the personality to develop any sort of opinion on their own, and just default to whatever you tell them to feel, even if its obviously not in their best interest, like mindless robots.

Its pathetic that Mccready in Fallout 4, having made a 400 mile trip, gotten passwords, and done recon of the building he needs to raid to get the cure to his son's disease has done more about his life problems then most of the companions in NV combined.
>>

It's raiders, not gunners. Gunners should have been diametrically opposed to the Minutemen, with you joining Garvey or going to Quincy to join the Gunners, in my opinion.
>>
>>147244598
You bring up the civil war, but I think that's actually a point bethesda got right.

You can take the slowly decaying empire, and choose a slow death for man, or you can choose ulfric, that might actually save man, but also could destroy it much sooner.

If you only go on the surface, sure, it's a choice between strong empire that embraces diversity and racist twat who might be a manchurian candidate.

But the deeper into the lore you go, the more compelling ulfric gets
>>
>>147244792
Way to write a better story than Bethesda. It would have been a good choice between people's freedom and people's safety. But even if Nuka World is about Raiders, it doesn't mean they can't flesh out the Gunners any. For such a large faction, they're really lacking in interaction.

>But the deeper into the lore you go, the more compelling ulfric gets
Ulfic actually gets LESS compelling the more you go into lore, because a massive point about the lore is that the gods, especially Lorkhan, have always divinely favored the Empire, and has always sent mortal avatars to destroy the elves.

The Dark Elves, the most Lrokhanic of the elves, got Nerevar to help force the hand of the Dwemer into destroying themselves

The Imperials got their Shezarrine Pelinal, who helped slay the Ayiled taskmasters.

The Redguard have their Hoonding, to help them drive the left-handed elves into the ocean.

The Empire is divinely pre-destined to win. Making Ulfric's case of them not doing anything hallow.

Except kirkbride has confirmed that the thalmor win in the end. The god's are powerful, but not omnipotent.

Regardless, your theory doesn't account for the fact that supporting ulfric is best for Man (not the current empire) in the long run: The nords have strong connections with the empire, and after the civil war, there are talks IIRC about forming a coalition with hammerfell, the other province that has successfully beaten the elves.

The problem with the Empire is that playing the waiting game against elves with a thousand year lifespan is fundamentally retarded.

So in the framework of your theory, and all that we know about the past war with the thalmor, Ulfric may be the catalyst that forces the Empire to actually fight, when it otherwise would not have, because it is ruled by a sackless regency.

Anyways, this discussion we're having is the point I was making: Bethesda did alright with the civil war for lorefags. There are credible arguments for both sides. They just didn't do a good job bringing these arguments to the surface, so consolefags and ayyylium tier nexus users perceive the conflict as tolerance versus racism.

Ohh god, you are one of these idiots aren't you?

The Redguards didn't beat the Elves, the Thalmor are like Nazi Germany, you can't beat them unless you dive directly into their home territory and fucking purge them from existence.

The redguard only beat a small force left behind to occupy Hammerfell while the overwhelming majority of the thalmor army had been sent to Cryodiil to take the seat of the Empire and then got smashed and forced back by Titus Mede and his armies

>The problem with the Empire is that playing the waiting game against elves with a thousand year lifespan is fundamentally retarded.
Attacking Elves with 1,000 year life spans before you have the men and resources to be able to push into their home terrorty and burn them out of Alinor is even more retarded.

You've got your timeline all mixed up friendo.

The redguards did beat back the elves. It wasn't a small force. It was a good portion of their remaining army. Here is the correct timeline:

>elves get their shit pushed in by the empire, at great cost. Both armies lose about half their forces in the battle around the imperial city, but the empire gets to call it a win, because they took the city back.

>thalmor and empire negotiate a treaty. The terms are the treaty are the exact same terms the thalmor demanded at the start of the war. Empire gives up all its momentum, all its moral authority, and bans talos worship while ceding hammerfell to the elves.

>hammerfell is pretty pissed about this, they leave the empire rather than be bound by the treaty. The empire division located in hammerfell helps the redguards fight the elves while maintaining plausible deniability

>redguards with imperial aid beat back the lion's share of the elves' army. Hammerfell is free. Thalmor never try to take it back because those niggas cray.

Hammerfell and the battle around the capitol both proved that with tactics and dedication, the elves could be beaten. There certainly wasn't a need to invade, but they didn't need to give the thalmor everything they went to war for. The White Gold Concordant was basically the sign of failing imperial leadership.

>playing the waiting game with 1000 year old elves
The problem with this is that the elves were in just as bad a position as the Empire was. They had about equal army strength, and the thalmor couldn't risk any more ground engagements in imperial territory,
They were rebuilding their armed forces just as much as the Empire, but they lacked the momentum and conviction imperial soldiers had at the time. After the battle for the imperial capitol, it was certainly the time to tell the elves to fuck off, rather than cede national and religious sovereignty to them.

>>
>>147246783
Logs don't tell you that, in fact, its been proven so countless times.

Even Arthmoor has gone a fairly long fucking rant explaining, in detail, why logs do NOT record anything that happens when a game crashes.

The logs in Bethesda games cannot record what happens during a crash, if a script crashed you game, it wouldn't be recorded, only the scripts BEFORE that one will, and using them you may find out what crashed your game since you may be able to tell "well all these scripts from this one mod were running right before the script that crashed my game did, so it might be that mod"

>The problem with this is that the elves were in just as bad a position as the Empire was. They had about equal army strength, and the thalmor couldn't risk any more ground engagements in imperial territory,
And the Elves had an advantge the empire didn't, supplies.

The Dominion's lands were untouched by the war, whereas the entire breadbasket and manufacturing portion of the Empire was entirely destroyed and nearly leveled.

The Elves had everything in place to easily defend their territory, whereas the empire lacked even the basic infrastructure to make more weapons/arms to push into enemy lands.

Not to mention The Empire needed to divert a large number of its few remaining troops to help with the reconstruction effort, meaning it would have had far fewer then The Dominion.

The Dominion was in the perfect position to resupply and then launch another attack on the defenseless and resource-less Empire, and The Empire would have had no way to defeat them.

suing for piece was literally the only option available unless titus wanted to continue a war he had no chance of winning only for the Elves to still take over and likely employ even more draconian laws against them.
>>
>>147247102
No, what you said implied the majority of the thalmor force was still in the imperial province, instead of consolodated into hammerfell.

>The Elves had everything in place to easily defend their territory, whereas the empire lacked even the basic infrastructure to make more weapons/arms to push into enemy lands

This is why they needed to invade an occupied territory. The bosmer and khajjit were suffering under thalmor rule, and could have disrupted their supply lines while aiding their liberators.

Anyways, even if invasion was not the correct choice, telling the elves to fuck off entirely instead of literally giving them every thing they asked for was a better choice.

No, what I said was that Titus Mede had crashed most of the army and drove them back into The Dominion after the battles in Cyrodiil.

>This is why they needed to invade an occupied territory.
Which, again, they had no ability to do.

>The bosmer and khajjit were suffering under thalmor rule, and could have disrupted their supply lines while aiding their liberators.
Except, as we see in skyrim, to Bosmer and Khajiit suffering under Thalmor rule are the extreme minority. Most are fine with the Thalmor, going into those lands wouldn't have given The Empire any sort of advantage.

>Anyways, even if invasion was not the correct choice, telling the elves to fuck off entirely instead of literally giving them every thing they asked for was a better choice.
Except Titus Mede had no way to enforce his telling of the Elves to fuck off as the Elves had just as many men, and far more resources, to immediately come back, rape the Empire, take it over, and then enforce even more harsher rules.

This is a retarded argument, espeically when no other Fallout game worked that way.

Fallout 1 began as a quest to save your friends and "family" in the Vault.

Fallout 2 began as a quest to save your friends and family in Arroyo.

Fallout 3 and 4 OFC began as quests to find a missing family member

Baldur's Gate began as a story of getting revenge for your slain adoptive father.

Hell, even Skyrim gave you the motivation of warning Whiterun about the dragon so they can be prepared to defend themselves and Riverwood in case of attack.

Every fucking even half-decent RPG gives you character some logical motivation as to why they should do the MQ, without it, the player has no reason to care.

Which is probably why fewer people completed New Vegas compared to Fallout 3, Skyrim, and Fallout 4

the logical motivation is the fucker shot you in the head. it leaves you totally open to have an epiphany about life and say, just try to get along in the world.

but in any case I don't think any of 1,2 or 3 did the hooks as ham handedly and poorly as fallout 4. they really cram the shit down your throat in 4, like the damn minute men: thinking "players won't build settlements if we don't have preston garvey spoonfeed them every interaction". that's where worrying about how many players complete the main quest in game design gets you. maybe I didn't complete the main quest because there was so fucking much to do and explore and it was fun and I had no need to. maybe I don't want to build settlements. maybe I'm not a retarded autistic child and don't need to be bottle fed my motivation at every turn.

The overwhelming majority of people who get shot IRL do not go on quests of revenge through over a hudnred miles of desert landscape filled with giant mutant monsters, and in the middle of a war, just to get petty revenge on the person who shot them.

In fact, the few people who do are usually considered psychopaths.
>>
>>147250098
>And you don't see that as a problem?

No. Each game has a half decent main quest, but also allows me (if I've played it 40 times, or simply don't care,) to instead focus on other elements of the setting - exploring, and playing side quests.

It's been well known for decades that railroading players in RPGs is a bad thing. Allowing players to forge their own path is always a good thing to allow when possible.

>which you can avoid.

Sure. But it takes quite a bit of effort to avoid the majority of characters with unique speaking roles, as well as all of the major settlements.

You can literally beat the whole game without ever coming into contact with the Minutemen.

Ayo even has an alternate line to not mention them during the directorate meeting should you choose not to, and Desdemona has alternate lines for if you blow your cover by getting banned form the Institute that she heard the Minutemen are up in Concord and you should use them to get into the Institute instead of her normal line of her just telling you to go talk to Garvey since you already helped build up The Minutemen

I live in Georgia. Seeing a game set in the country or in Florida with all its swamplands would be cool. Would be a lot bloodier and dirtier than most Fallout games, given location and culture (assuming some twisted mutant variant arose from the ashes of the South)

I know for certain that suiciders can level scale with you on radiant quests. Though the game seems kinda random when it comes to spawning them. Sometimes they are all low level trash at the location and sometimes everything is warlords and suiciders with more health than you will ever have.

Survival mode:

The lone wanderer perk seems powerful, and it gives you +150 carry weight as well as some extra health/damage.

but...companions are amazing and you basically need a 480 hauling robot ally because the enemies are bullshit.

Which should I go with?
>>
>>147254848
Can you deal with all the mechanist robots everywhere?
>>
>>147254753

Because AWOP is poorly designed garbage that amounts to nothing more then new monsters that make no sense, are more poorly textured then the base game's already low res creatures, and illogical, even for Fallout, underground map spanning areas that are nothing more then "LETS THROW 100+ FERAL GHOULS IN ONE ROOM!" hard.

It is, by all manner, poorly made, to the point it makes even the already broken Fallout 3 and NV look great by comparison.

Quick question guys,

Does the game run better since launch or it's pretty much still the same?

I want to buy it but I don't know if I should wait to upgrade my PC later.

Some tips on how to make Fallout 4 run fine

1. Never turn anything above medium except distance object detail and object detail fade.

comparisons between ulta and medium and have shown the only noticeable difference is some very minor rust effects on some textures, but turning everything down to medium still saves you a bunch of FPS.

2. Godrays can be turned down to low as there is no noticeable difference between low, medium, and high, only ultra produces an actual difference.

3. turn off motion blur because it sucks balls, just like it does in every game
>>
>>147255325

Yeah, but Japan is out of the "Feminist" empowering eye. I meant in a medium they can actually influence. No amount of "muh womyn" is going to change Japan. But it can and has affected the film and video game industries in America.
>>

Personally I don't think so.

Even going 70 MPH in a car produces small amounts of motion blur, but in every game I know of with motion blur, a slight jog basically turns the game into blur city.

Motion blur i ngames really only exists to try to hide shit textures, but it drags down the frame rate in doing so, and I would personally have a high FPS game that looks mediocre, then a mediocre game with low FPs because the dves threw motion blur fucking EVERYWHERE in some piss poor attempt to hide their mediocre graphics

>>
>>147257190
Really, a good idea for a simple mod would be to setup a proper FOB at the Airport once the Brotherhood set up shop. A large number of Vertibirds on the runway, barracks, ranges, ect.

Would definitely make the kind of force they project a bit easier to believe.
>>
>>147257415
I'd imagine getting many new vertibirds would require more than just some small outposts. Prydwin has like 12 vertibirds at best with it.
>>
>>147257567
Maxson's BoS only has about 500 people in it, including the scribes and people who stay on the Prydwen all the time.

They probably only have about 10-15 Vertibirds total.
>>
As a Brotherhood soldier, wouldn't it be ideal to have The Prydwen above and a Vault below the Boston Airport? The Vault would be a place to store valuable pre-war artifacts, weapons, and technology. It would also be the Sentinel's personal residence.

fallout 5 wont even have terminals, it will just have hackable keypads

other important information like "Join the brotherhood" and "isnt liberty prime so cool!!" will be shoved down your throat through radio, dialogue and clips at the start of the game
>>
>>147249551

To be fair, you're free to shoot Father in the head the first time you meet him. At a certain point you can even cut ties by telling him that you'd never thought you could be so disappointed in him.
>>
>>147258135
To be fair, it was stated as far back as Fallout 1/2 that Vaults were built to be modular, and to be able to be taken apart by the Vault dwellers for use in building new towns outside the Vault.

Given how cheap Vault-Tec was on everything, it honestly shouldn't be THAT hard to make a Vault-like structure.
>>
>>147258230
You can tell Father you want nothing to do with him in the very first conversation you have with him.

You can do it again after the Battle of Bunker Hill.

The computer terminals on the Prydwen and in the Cambridge police department use a consistent naming code for all BoS members consisting of initials, number, and rank

http://fallout.gamepedia.com/Brotherhood_registration

The highest known BoS registry number is for Senior scribe Neriah at 490.

Kells mentions the Prydwen iss like 4000 tons of something, which I've seen compared to the size of a naval vessels which can hold 500ish men on them.

Danse also mentions that it looks like Maxson brought the whole division with him, which he may have given the size of the ship and the numbers we know they have.
>>

All the best Power Armor and modifications should be lootable from only Brotherhood members or earned through Brotherhood quests.
>>
>>147261010
>http://fallout.gamepedia.com/Brotherhood_registration
The serial number is not necessarily indicative of the order of induction. Maxson has a serial number of 001, but he was clearly not the first member of the BoS.
>4000 tons of something, which I've seen compared to the size of a naval vessels which can hold 500ish men on them
>the whole division with him, which he may have given the size of the ship and the numbers we know they have
All the rest of this is just speculation. We have no idea what a East Coast BoS "division" is, or how many people it would have.

It's interesting, because those numbers don't seem to follow a consistent structure if taken as a direct indication of unit sizes. Junior ranks are mixed in with senior ranks, which would mean that only Maxson has been given a unique numerical identifier, and the rest would follow some sort of other system, but it also can't be chronological, because you often see senior ranks with a number very close to that of Initiates.

The two letter suffix would resolve this, however - they indicate a branch of service. This would mean, for example, that Senior Scribe Neriah (NR-490SS,) is the 490th Senior Scribe within that system. This also works with Maxon (MX-001E,) being the sole Elder of that Brotherhood faction.

This also would be more in line with the number of troops you expect to find in a division - 10,000 to 20,000 generally.

That would run contrary to their (seemingly,) strong desire to honor the memory of the dead, and to retrieve dogtags whenever possible as an extension of this.

>the Capital wasteland doesn't have anywhere near 10,000 people in it, and nowhere near all of them are part of the BoS

It's indicated that the NCR has a population of 700,000 as of Fallout 2, and some conjecture that it's in the millions as of New Vegas. It isn't much of a stretch to imagine that a more mobile Brotherhood operating throughout the East Coast might have a membership approaching division-size.

that was something Lyons did.

Maxson is not Lyons, and after Owyn and Sarah died, the BoS went through a series of terrible leaders, eventually leading to Maxson getting the position of Elder after he defeated the last great super mutant leader, and negotiated the return of the outcasts.

Maxson is not Lyons, nor does the Fo4 BoS collect the holotags of the fallen.

>It's indicated that the NCR has a population of 700,000 as of Fallout 2,
The NCR is a large establish nation holding what was THE single most populated state before the war, and had several functional Vaults to drastically boost its initial population, as well as a strong military to keep local threats down.

the East coast had none of this.

Maxson controls D.C., and the areas immediately around it, which is not enough to give him an army of 10,000

>The NCR is a large establish nation holding what was THE single most populated state before the war,

Not as of Fallout 2. It's still trying to pull itself together, and still manages a population of nearly three-quarters of a million.

>had several functional Vaults to drastically boost its initial population,

One Vault as of Fallout 2, and only a third of it's citizenry went on to actually form the NCR - the rest became raiders.

>as well as a strong military to keep local threats down.

You're really going to tell me that post-Enclave ECBoS doesn't have a strong military?

>Maxson controls D.C., and the areas immediately around it, which is not enough to give him an army of 10,000

10,000 is the population of a large town. It's not much of a stretch that a military force that provides a healthy alternative to scavenging or farming, controls a major source of water in a region with little to no potable water, and is capable of projecting force over a wide area would have trouble raising a force that large. Keep in mind that Fallout 3 and 4 are taking place in condensed versions of the real world - around 10% actual size.

Again, thats because it had Vault 8, Vault 13, Vault 15, to boost the initial population of the region to high no other area has.

>You're really going to tell me that post-Enclave ECBoS doesn't have a strong military?
By compare to the NCR., Legion, or MWBoS?

Not at all, the ONLY thing of Value they have is Liberty Prime, besides that they have about 500 men, and a dozen or so vertibirds.

Really, they aren't large, they can't expand fast, and they still haven't made it to Philly or The Pitt that we know of.

>10,000 is the population of a large town.
Not in the post-war world, aseptically not in the D.C region.

An aircraft carrier, like the kind Rivet city was built into, can hold, at max, around 3,000 people.

But Rivet City was broken in two, and the lower decks were all infested by Mirelurks, so we would be lucky to see even 1,000 people in it.

And Rivet city was by FAR the largest settlement in the wasteland in lore.

Outside of Megaton, most smaller settlements like arefu were known to have a MAX of around 40ish people in lore

No it didn't. It had about 1/3 of Vault 15's population. Vault 13 had remained closed for the most part, with some of it's population moving to Arroyo. Vault 8 became Vault City, which wasn't part of the NCR at that point.

I honestly can't tell if you are retarded or just haven't played the games

A. They don't have an orbital laser platform. Not even the Enclave had one of those. the closest thing the enclave had was a fucking nuke satellite, which the BoS lost control of when they used its remaining payload to nuke the mobile crawler.

B. The Capital Wasteland's economy consists of hunting animals for food, and giving out pure water for free. There is no fucking ecnonomy there.

C. They didn't scrap Rivet City to build the Prdywen, and fucking NOWHERE i nthe game does it state this. all that is stated is that they took Rivet city's fusion core out to power the Prydwen.

Nesting attempts /= infestation

That does likely indicate that there are far fewer people living down there, however.

>I never made that claim you autist.

Well, it's either that, or you seriously believe that a heavily militarized United States would stop developing their Aircraft Carrier tech in the 1950s.

>Is backwards like everything else you said because it was written by the devs themselves.

It wasn't, though. They edited it, and still managed to let dozens mistakes and flatout falsehoods through. It isn't a reliable source.

>-The BoS terminals only show numbers going up to 490

It uses a numeric identifier, but also specifies branch of service. That alone probably indicates that the numbers can't be interpreted sequentially.

>-Kells description of the Prydwen makes it in the same class/size of a small naval vessel

Which is great, but it's unlikely the entire Brotherhood would be travelling on it in the first place.

It also isn't a naval vessel.

>-Danse's comment that Maxson "brought the whole Division" fits in like with both the size of the BoS on the terminal registry, and the ship's size based on its weight.

No it doesn't. A Division has *at least* 10,000 men in it. That's a pretty fucking big difference from 500.

>-We know Rivet city couldn't have had more then 1,500 - 2,000 people on it at max.

No, we don't. Your headcanon says that Rivet City couldn't have had more then 1,500 - 2,000 people on it max. Considering it's size, it's likely closer in scale to a Nimitz-class than an Essex or the Independence.

>I dunno, those train people in F3 were pretty damning.
Actually, you would be suprised how common this is.

Games like Gear of War for example just had a moving background while you stayed on a shaking static platform to give the illusion that the thing you were riding was walking a great distance when in fact you were standing still the whole time.

All games do shit like that..

I figured part of it out at least. If you set the ammo type to null, the gun fires without ammo.

Now I just need to figure out how to keep reloading a thing.

I guess ideally there would be a way to make it so you fire a round, and then gain exactly the amount of ammo consumed right back in your inventory. This would emulate the ME2&3 systems of having an infinite number of magazines/clips, but still having guns being limited by magazines/clips. Which was honestly kind of fun, and a good game design decision, even if it shat on established lore of the setting.
>>
>>147267910

Also - the BoS terminals only indicate crew from the Prydwen - any BoS troops that traveled via other means (APC, for example,) may not be tracked on there.

>That alone probably indicates that the numbers can't be interpreted sequentially.
No, that indicates that they put the rank on there to help easily identity people as many people have the same or similar initials.

> but it's unlikely the entire Brotherhood would be travelling on it
Why exactly? Especially when Danse says its very possible they brought the whole chapter with him.

>No it doesn't. A Division has *at least* 10,000 men in it.
a REAL WORLD division does. Real-world numbers =/ = the same for post-war numbers which would be far smaller and adjusted for it.

>No, we don't. Your headcanon says that Rivet City couldn't have had more then 1,500 - 2,000 people on it max. Considering it's size, it's likely closer in scale to a Nimitz-class than an Essex or the Independence.
And given how much of it is broken off, and how Mirelurk infest the lower levels, and how Doctor Li's lab takes up a large portion of it, and hoe much of it would be too ruined to use, even a newer aircraft carrier which can carry 5,000 people on it, there wld still likely only be 2-3 thousand people on it total even in that case

Except that they obviously haven't, making this a moot point.

>No, that indicates that they put the rank on there to help easily identity people as many people have the same or similar initials.

Unlikely.

That would suggest a sequential numbering system, which is contrary to the service length of those assigned the numbers. If that's the case, that would mean the number assignments are random, which in turn means they still can't be used to judge the size of the Brotherhood units on site.

>Why exactly? Especially when Danse says its very possible they brought the whole chapter with him.

Danse says he brought an entire division with him, not a Chapter.

And even if it is a crew of 500, keep in mind that the majority of the space within an airship is used for lifting gasses. Hydrogen needs to be contained, meaning that there is limited space for crew, along with Hydrogen cells, a reactor, and maintenance facilities.

Additionally, it makes far more sense to send units ahead of your capital ship to make sure some asshole with an RPG doesn't cook your Hydrogen bag.

>a REAL WORLD division does. Real-world numbers =/ = the same for post-war numbers which would be far smaller and adjusted for it.

In which case, why not use a different term? The Brotherhood is a military descendant organization. They'd fully know that the term Regiment or Company would be far more suitable.

>The BoS doesn't have APCs

They do. You can find outposts built up by the BoS around pristine APCs that spawn in with them. They just don't move because >gamebryo

>And even if it is a crew of 500, keep in mind that the majority of the space within an airship is used for lifting gasses.
The Prydwen does not use gas to lift itself you moron. A hydrogen gas zeppelin wouldn't be able to lift itself if it was 40,000 tons like Kells said.

The Prydwen is lifted by the 4 massive nuclear powered jet engines it has, the hydrogen as is used for coolant.

They said the hydrogen kept it aloft, which it does, because its the key component in keeping their reactors from overheating.

>You have a source for that? I'd check right now myself in the CK, but I'm not at my main PC.
Yes, the CK, as well as having previously investigated this bullshit rumor myself by using CoC codes to teleport myself to all the places the BoS appear after the Prydwen shows up, counting the number of APCs at those places, then going back after the BoS showed up, and comparing how many are there.

There was never any difference before or after in how many APCs there were.

And the TOTAL lack of ANY NPC, BoS or not, mentioning their use, it also a big fucking indicator.

If they still acted like the military and had a military structure or culture they wouldn't be using rankings and terminology like Scribes, Knights, and Paladins, and wouldn't be spouting phrases like "steel be with you" and "ad victorium" like religious chants.

The BoS is not a military order, they are an order more based on religious crusaders like the Knights Templar.

Not surprising given that Lyons, sarah, Arthur, and many other of the east coast BoS are named directly after people from Arthurian mythology.

>Finally they started showing up after a third day.
>Shit just takes a while sometimes.

That's because they're being farmed. The building materials are instant.

Here, I have a supply line that seems to have stopped working. The line shows on the PipBoy, and I used to have access to all the materials in the whole network. Now, the line still shows, but none of the materials are available.

Did my provisioner get stuck or something? Is that a game mechanic?

What are some good insect themed mods? I remember in either new vegas or 3 there was some crazy git who dressed up as an insect themed superhero, and he had insect themed powers.

I'd like to do the insect themed powers.

I'm working right now on a bloatfly gun, but are there any other good ones?

>So says the man whose every point has been utterly debunked by in-game sources

Stooping to lying now, are we?

>Except there is no attached pic

Yep. Attached as a reply because I fucked up.

>Name one instance in Fallout 4 where we see BoS ground unit with radios connecting back to their main base?

Burden of proof isn't on me here, champ. A radio shortage isn't mentioned, and the Prydwen clearly has a usable communications suite. And the position at the Glowing Sea has a communications mast.

>If they still acted like the military and had a military structure

What? They do. Just because they don't use conventional rank names doesn't mean they still don't have a chain of command.

>they wouldn't be using rankings and terminology like Scribes, Knights, and Paladins

Which, of course, ignores their usage of more conventional terms like Captain, Sergeant, and Commander.

>wouldn't be spouting phrases like "steel be with you" and "ad victorium" like religious chants.

The usage of those terms is no different from the usage of phrases like "Godspeed" during WWII.

>The BoS is not a military order, they are an order more based on religious crusaders like the Knights Templar.

>"The Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon (Latin: Pauperes commilitones Christi Templique Salomonici), commonly known as the Knights Templar, the Order of Solomon's Temple (French: Ordre du Temple or Templiers) or simply as Templars, were among the wealthiest and most powerful of the Western Christian military orders"
>military order

>Stooping to lying now, are we?
Its not a lie when scrolling back through the thread proves it true.

>And the position at the Glowing Sea has a communications mast.
You mean the massive ass thing that isn't easily portable?

Neither Paladin Brandis or Paladin Danse's recon teams were given radios, and Danse even had to jurry rig the police station radio because they lacked one.

Also, the radio boon near the Glowing sea was used to track the homing beach you leave behind so they can find the nuke stash, Haylon goes over this as part of the mission brief.

>What? They do. Just because they don't use conventional rank names doesn't mean they still don't have a chain of command.
Having a chain of command does not make you military based, even raiders have chains of command.

>Which, of course, ignores their usage of more conventional terms like Captain, Sergeant, and Commander.
None of which are ranks that are new or exclusively used by the US military.

>The usage of those terms is no different from the usage of phrases like "Godspeed" during WWII.
Except the terms as the BoS use them are religiously based on their dogmatic worship of the codex.

>military order

>Its not a lie when scrolling back through the thread proves it true.

It is when scrolling back proves it false, however.

>You mean the massive ass thing that isn't easily portable?

Irrelevant.

>Neither Paladin Brandis or Paladin Danse's recon teams were given radios, and Danse even had to jurry rig the police station radio because they lacked one.

They were also operating hundreds of miles from Brotherhood positions on recon missions, and only ended up needing radios because they were unable to continue their operation.

>Having a chain of command does not make you military based, even raiders have chains of command.

Irrelevant. Still a military structure.

>None of which are ranks that are new or exclusively used by the US military.

Irrelevant, still rank names, still used.

>Nice Wikipedia copy-pasta

>I dunno, those train people in F3 were pretty damning.

You have no idea what you're talking about. They achieved what they wanted in a stable, effective way without having to pour thousands of man hours into it. This sort of sleight of hand is incredibly common and a textbook example of working smarter, not harder; it would be much more damning if a company *didn't* do it.

It really doesn't though, the whole question of "what makes a person a person" is briefly brushed as you sprint past on your way to rescue your baby from the bad men.
Then you make a decision based on who jerked you off the best when you met them before blowing something up.

All the discussions about whether a synth is human enough to deserve freedom or not are entirely separate from the game, it's never even touched upon, all the factions consider their position to be a foregone conclusion not worth debating.

Fighting Mirelurks is by far the most teeth-grinding aspect of a pure melee/unarmed character. I don't usually approve of exploiting broken mechanics, but it's worth keeping around a Wounding weapon just to use on Mirelurks.

Fallout 3's central theme is sacrifice. Fallout NV's central theme is letting go.

Fallout 4's theme is wasted potential.

when will I be able to turn my settlers into my concubines and slaves?
>>
>>147277538
Yeah, I hijacked the Automatron script for adding the Mechanist's Lair as a working settlement to start.
Then I touched up the navmesh around the island (it was auto-generated and needed some work), and made most of the misc stuff around the island scrappable (like trees and small shrubs). I made the building height really high, mostly because I wanted somewhere with plenty of room to make anything I wanted to from Contraptions.
I got the go-ahead to release the mod from the original author, so I might publish it if I feel like it isn't an embarassingly low-quality job.
I had trouble with (I think) pre-culling though, and had to disable pre-vis on the island to make it stay visible. It is only for a handful of cells though, so I don't really think there is a noticeable performance hit.

>Irrelevant.
Except it isnt as it proves the BoS lacks portable communications equipment needed for smaller patrols, like what was said in Fallout 3.

>They were also operating hundreds of miles from Brotherhood positions on recon missions, and only ended up needing radios because they were unable to continue their operation.
And if they had radio equipment in the numbers you suggest, why did they give those teams radios so they could radio each other and cover an area more effectively?

>Irrelevant. Still a military structure.
Only in that has a chain of command, which non military orders do as well, thus removing any link to a military order.

>Irrelevant, still rank names, still used.
context is never irrelevant. As without content, you can make up any bullshit you want, such as your claim the BoS is a military order and remove the context of the knightly order it actually is.

>all the factions consider their position to be a foregone conclusion not worth debating.
There are members of the institute who have problems with the Synth program and even try to help individual synths escape, the BoS has some dissent in the ranks about Danse being outed as a synth, and the RR probes into deeper questions about where to draw the line of what sorts of beings deserve freedom.
