Ayaka is literally your generic otome protagonist with zero twists played into it. The altruism thing is not really there in prototype concept, that was added for SF, a different Ayaka with different personality.
Shirou at least gave a nice twist to the concept, actually had something he wanted and a whole character arc that you don't see that commonly in anime media.

The only thing Ayaka has going for her is that she's a "cute girl", and that's debatable. She has no outstanding features, like Rin and her twintails + thighhighs, Saber and her everything (in terms of standing out), Sakura and her body, and Illya and her albinism +loli body. She's boring looking (and her concept form was even *more* boring looking , christ). Like, Saber falling for Shirou is kind of a stretch considering how old she is, but their and Shirou's circumstances make it work. But Arthur and Ayaka? No reason whatsoever.
