I've got some true or false questions for SR:
1) The best unit to give the Emperor Ring to is Natori, because it puts her to 9 Spd allowing her to get off Miko Storm 2 even faster and therefore contribute even more to your Battle Rating, and maybe even let her dodge Ninjas.
2) Even if you give them textbooks, outside of Isoroku, the entire Archer class is beyond redemption, particularly in high difficulties.

Just checking over my posts from last thread. I guess that I've figured out the Emperor items, but what about the Brute Photo and Rance's Love? I've still got no clue who to give them to. I can't think of any unit in the game who benefits significantly more than other units from a constant supply of affection.

I think I've finally got a good argument for why Himiko remains good even in 5 Star.

1) She has awesome stats, you can't complain at 7/7/7/7 and at the point where you get her, those stats are still relevant, unlike units like Nori or Kazuhisa who aren't worth it by the time you get them.
2) Monks are actually pretty damn good. In terms of base stats, they're just behind warriors and being able to heal yourself in a fight, remove Guard and start every turn with all of your troops really works wonders for you combat effectiveness.
3) Look again at her stats, that 7 Int and Def makes her an awesome tank.
4) In 5SNB, money can still be a problem when you hit the Mikos. Himiko helps a lot here by costing nothing to use,

Sadly, what makes Himiko good cripples all the other Monks. I've been trying to make Asakura Yoshikaga a good unit and that's what make me realise why Himiko is so good - just giving a Monk high Atk and Def doesn't make them good, it just makes them a bad Warrior, if you want to me a good Monk, you need to have awesome stats all round.

Pic related, I still can't make Mages good, despite being assured that they're great Foot killers, I just can't get anything from them.

Theoretical SR question - what's better, a Ninja with Assassinate 2 and high Spd but nothing else of value, or a Musket unit with a massive troop count, the normal Musket attack and only one Action?

I've started to realise that both units are used in exactly the same way (fire once and use up all of their Actions, hoping for an insta-kill) but the Ninja seems to get much more praise than the Musket. Why is this?

Presumably because ninjas don't need to be front row to do their job, and don't need any troop size to use Assassinate. If I remember correctly it even can ignore shikigamis. Since on an efficient run you'll just savescum best results anyway Ninja is just the best except in the rare scenarios where Assassinate doesn't work. Ninjas also provide the best dungeon skill in the game, and Suzume gives huge amounts of sat on the way to it.

I don't really have anything positive to say about musket except they aren't mages.

Strictly gameplay, yes. Leila is one of the best units you can probably get. As a whole not really. Ranmaru comes free, arguably the best oda unit and immediately has use. Leila you gotta go all the way into Leazas, who you'll probably start on after getting Urza. She of course will provide valve once you finally get her, but Ranmaru is more valuable as a whole.

Unless, of course you're doing an extreme game then you'll probably just fire her for money.

Rizna's dogshit, magic is a huge pain to get and Shizuka costs 20 points. The class itself is unbelievably slow, fragile, EXPENSIVE to upgrade and the other int fighters, divine are whole lot better. Even just random generics.

They do, save shizuka, give great sat and have some combat viability. Shizuka herself has sticky ground. They are just really fucking lacking.

I think you may have already got a complete answer, but I still feel like giving this a shot.

1) Even if the class was good, their units would still suck. None of them start with any stats above 6, so if I'm being generous, they've only got the stats of a good generic.

They're exceptionally shit in every regard except for their base Int. >>147247154 made it pretty clear. Even if you somehow make the Mages good, you're gonna struggle to actually fucking use them.
3) Their moves suck, on an already very slow class, they've got Fire Blast, which is tied for being the slowest move in the game. As for A-Cutter, it's a move on a very early game unit which is only good in the late game, in short by the time the move doesn't suck, Rizna sucks. For White Destruction Beam, 1.5x damage on two units which ignored guards for all your actions isn't the best deal, but I'll give you that it's still pretty reasonable.
4) The circumstances in which they join sucks. As with any unit, you want them to have a high number of troops, but Rizna joins so early on in the game that she's unlikely to have many. Magic and Shizuka aren't in much better positions (I can get much better stuff with my points or SAT bonuses, particularly by the time that they would show up), and buying them new troops costs big money.
5) They've got no access to anything game-breaking, so even if they were a reasonably good class, you're still gonna have to convince me to use them over something broke like Tourin.

And remember, for all the reasons that Mages suck, what do you get? A unit that can use magic and hence do a fair bit of damage to Foots... well, slightly more magic damage than Diviners, who's generics are faster, easiest to get and more versatile than any Mage unit in the game.

Reset is good, but that is because she is Reset and has three skills unique to her: one passive that makes your party unaffected by stun, second passive that decreases entire damage received by party by 20% and her Kalar queen curse attack which poisons all enemies and decreases their attack and defense, also removing any buffs they possibly could have. Any class would be good with all of this.

Aegis is actually pretty okay early, later on though she doesn't seem to be able to hold her position with all new characters who join you and the stronger enemies you will meet, and becomes obsolete.

So... I've beat 5SNB of every route in SR now, here's what I've learned.

1) 9,999 troops stacks aren't as common in 5 Star as we make them out to be. The only time you really see them is on units which always have massive numbers of troops (e.g. Takuga and Moscow)... maybe there really is room to argue that Omachi is a better unit than Natori.
2) Speaking of Natori, >>147160208, she really is the best candidate for the Emperor Ring. When a 9 Spd Natori gets a Spd buff and you brought Dousan, be prepared to wipe out the entire enemy force. On several occasions, I've seen Dousan restore Natori's move only for her to prep Miko Storm 2 and then fire it off instantly. It's funny, every playthrough that I do, Natori seems to get even more broke.
3) Speaking of Monks, Himiko is still a damn solid unit in 5 Star, see >>147200913.
4) The general opinion sthat we have on most commanders and units types are correct.
5) Pursuit Attack is fucking awesome. I love the Cavalry.
6) The number of turns that have passed don't seem to have much of an effect on the strength of the enemy units, however your progress in the game does, it's kinda weird, stuff like Iga will always suck even if you fight them as your last house but houses which are intended for the late game like Mouri are the reason why Foots are vital in 5 Star - it really does seems to be the case that they cheat and use generic Warriors with 9 Atk.
7) It's a great tragedy that Initial Battle Rating and Initial Time Advance stack. The game would be a much bigger challenge if it weren't for them.
8) Unless I'm paying attention to the story, I can only play True or DK now. Isoroku and Kenshin are just easier True, while Ran is won as soon as you enter it and KTM drags on for too fucking long.
9) Most of the fights in the game are easy, even the castle battles. I still find it hilarious that the Miko's final battle isn't really too much trouble even with the 50% advantage.
10) Savescumming doesn't help you.

I don't really think that this is cheating, more likely that this is intended that have houses have better generics. I remember picking Takeda house bonus and fighting Takeda after taking Ashikaga province. The generics captured from them, from what I remember had better stats that those from Hara or Ashikaga.

While I do agree that better houses have better capturable generics than others, from what I've heard, some Chinese hackers checked it and they found that in the late game, the game really does cheat - you'll be hit with the force of 9 Atk by a unit that has 6 upon capturing. I suppose that if you wanted to, you could check it yourself by measuring what damage an enemy unit does to you and then hacking to capture it, but I've never bothered.

I know that an anon a while back figured out a way to use Cheat Engine to view the stats of your own units before a battle or something (it's how I found out that stats of the reinforcements units). I could probably experiment with that and find out the enemy's stats, but I've got no skills in that area, otherwise I could fuck around with the SSG or just force Twin Intelligence King into a normal game.

Where did you hear about TADA mode anyway? It's news to me.

Y'know, where did all of our SR experts go? I've still got thread 386 saved where we basically had 3 SR experts arguing with each other, we even had gems like this posted (pretty sure the poster of this was that guy who holds the English-speaking record for SR).
