I miss the early days when the ooc was bustling full of people reacting to the case, and how new docs would fill up in a moment, and most would eagerly contribute to casebuilding. People didn't spend time fucking with the doc layout to make their name look cool, or had bloody premade pictures to put there.

The mentality of December/January is that nobody quite knew how to play, so there was more experimentation and less tryharding. For example, now nobody is gonna attempt to have a case with three witnesses (and not just for lack of people) or to call up a coroner for testifying, or anything else that is out of current "meta", so to speak. Witnesses have gotten so fucking use to our meta we have going on that cases are not "Wild" in a good way anymore. We hate having more than 2 witnesses and most of the time the fomula goes like this:

Detective: Gives facts.
Wit 1: Saw body
--Detective comes back in and presents findings--
Wit 2: Saw murderer, is real murderer.

We've gotten tired of 3rd witnesses so much that we don't even like calling the 1st witness back up most of the time.

I remember when 1st witness wasn't always the same. Remember when a witness neither saw the murder or stumbled on the body? No? Cus it never happens.

There was once a time when 1st witness testified to events surrounding the murder. Or gave testimony to explain defendant's motive in detail.

That shit won't fly anymore because everyone whines about it being a "Waste of time to bother with a witness who didn't see anything."

Cases are currently like this for a reason, it's what has achieved the most success after people have played so many alternatives.

Wit 3 trials don't happen as often because it is more complicated to include them, and cases are long enough as it is.

I don't think that it is even possible to build a case like they were used to be built, because nobody remembers how to. So I attempted to lift evidence from an old case doc to retry today. Would anyone be fine with that?
It wasn't that notable a case, but even if you remember it, we still don't have to follow the original one.

I am just stating the reasons why we're like this currently. Don't like people being formulaic? Don't be formulaic, it seems other people don't want to either, so go case with them.

To add to the current discussion, I once tried like a month ago to be a first witness who neither found the body nor saw the murder.

My testimony was all about the opportunity and means. I had two contradictions that cast doubt on the defendant having the murder weapon and being on the scene at the time of the murder.

Both were too hard for the defense to grasp, apparently.


The reason cases are formulaic is simple: Because all the players on the server are retarded (yes, this includes me.) and the witnesses want to testify.

We have retard defenses, retard prosecutions, retarded judges, and retarded witness. All of which want the trial to go well, so we stick to a formula that's proven to work most of the time and keep the flow of the case going..

The detective gives the facts because their role is giving the facts. We have detective requests because AO lacks an investigation phase. It is not the detective's fault most players are not creative in their requests (or request asspulls to prove their half baked theories correct.)

Guess what, the majority of first witnesses find the body because that's the easiest way to cast doubt or implicate a third party.

The majority of second witnesses see the murder themselves because it is the easiest way to not be a repeat of the first witness and gives the defense a chance to indict them.

All prosecutors that complain about how people give too many chances to the defense because "hurr defense must win" are proof of this, they for some reason think this is a PvP competition between defense and prosecution. Bite me in the ass if you want but if the defense winning will be more fun and make people more likely to feel like the 5 hours they invested in the case were worth it then so be it. The reason witness 1 never gets indicted is always because Witness 2 tries as hard as possible to be indict-able as fuck.

Look, if someone sees the murder directly happen and I, as a Defense Attorney, can't disprove their ENTIRE TESTIMONY via contradictions of some kind, I am basically forced to indict them as the killer. Because that's the only way to disprove their entire testimony, by framing it all as lies fabricated by the TRUE KILLER (tm).

The simple solution to this would be for second witness to see a struggle and the killing but not identify the murderer, but it's _always_ shit like

Every single really fun case has had a twist factored in, and most of them have been ridiculous. By allowing everyone a little more leeway to bantz, asspull, and make twists you can make the entire case much more fun.

I think that honestly the last real fun, oldstyle case I saw was Magic Rape 1. It wasn't a generic formulaic case, and every witness had some fun memorable part. Witness 1's CE became a debate on the fluid physics of semen on bear fur, leading to the loss of Gumshoe's innocence (the witness didn't leave the stand while gumshoe was pouring jizz around either) Witness 2 literally testified about how she masturbated to the scene, yet still got cross examined and the defense bluffed successfully into the third witness, where the real drama went down.

i've seen the way you play, you meme the majority of the time with 10 year old tier bants in an effort to get screenshot, and then get hung up on irrelevant BS, only to get mad when the witnesses don't play along.

So I thought of a great idea to spice this game up a bit. What if every weekend we do something different with the game play of a case by adding a random scenario to it.

Examples:
RPG court: instead of using useless things like logic and contradictions, progression is done through dice rolls. Your actions have different chances depending on what class you are. Players level up as each witness is beaten.

Time trail court: Defence has 4 hours to beat a case.

Time Traval Court: All players, except the judge must play a different version of Phoenix Wright, or Miles Edgeworth. Case should fit with this.

Hard Mode: Defence and Prosecution have only two penalties each, and there is only 3 pieces of evidence.

And that's all I can think of at the top of my head.

It is like saying "watch chess before trying", you need to try it yourself. Watching is also kinda boring.

Avoid threads. This is a general thread, and, just like any other general, it's awful. In-game is pretty comfy and fine though.

If you want to try a big role in your first time (like a witness, lead defense/lead prosecutor, co-defense/co-prosecutor or even JUDGE) don't mention you are new or else some elitists will tell you to give up your spot and take support. Game is unfortunately plagued with some of those people. If someone tries to do that, however, just press call mod and explain the situation, mods will probably (hopefully) be on your side.

Also make sure you have at least 6 hours before engaging on a case, those can be lengthy depending on how they develop. Have fun anon

-The player who just want to have fun whenever they are Det,Da,Wit,Pro etc
-Tryhard player who just want to win DA,Wit,Pro

Had a fun gimmick but contradictions that could easily be shut down or not noticed. Had good potential to be the true killer.

Wit 2 = 8 out of 10 (but dropped to 0 when his bitch ass left)
Started with a funny joke, repeating Yogi's 1-4 testimony. Gave an actual in character testimony that was good, but the judge threw it out. Wanted to do a parrot testimony but a few people didn't want to, because the case was already over 7 hours at that point and another witness was lined up.

Wit 3 = 4 out of 10.
All contradictions were hidden behind presses. Omitted too much information even when directly asked by the prosecution and judge. Took too long to reply to questions because typing long ass answers and answering questions with rhetorical questions.
