Is it any good? How are the songs? Only miku game I've played so far was Project Diva F, and that was fun as balls. Do they play the same? Does Future Tone have the diva customization?

Yes, Songs are good and there's lots 220+, plays sightly different, better customisation because you can switch hair between modules.

Check the PSN store for prelude that way you can try 2 songs at least.

Future Tone is basically the arcade version of the game. It has 224 songs, 340 modules and an extra extreme difficulty setting. The arcade has a different button layout than the DS controllers though, which means double notes actually are 2 different buttons. There's also tripple and quadruple notes. It's basically the same game with a lot more content and harder because of the new double notes.

So my order of battleborn finally came in, I got it used because giving gearbox money directly is still too much for me. Anyway, when it showed up the disc got broken during transport so I called up Amazon and asked for a replacement copy. The guy laughed and said "Yea I think we can find one", turns out they have about 500 used copies for sale and over 4k unsold copies sitting in a warehouse. He just guessed that if it holds at that number they'll probably slash the price more near the holidays.

So I'm playing Nier for the first time in anticipation of Automata and it's obviously really fuckin good. Super glad I picked this up. Had two questions about Nier and the Drakengard franchise in general and since there's no /ps2g/ or /ps3g/ I figured this was the place to ask.

As I understand, to get one of the endings you need to collect 100% of the weapons in the game. When I started playing I was dumb and just wanted to play for the story so I breezed through without doing any sidequests, and apparently the game restarts you at the second half when you beat the game and go back to get another? Am I boned because I hardly finished any quests in the first half?

Second - I've heard Drakengard is similar to Nier but a lot more fucked up and insane. Is it worth playing if I already know how mostly Ending E goes thanks to playing Nier? And what about Drakengard 3? I heard that got mixed reactions even from fans of the franchise.

#1 - It's been a long time since I played Nier but I don't think that any of the quests in part 1 have weapon rewards so you should be fine there (if I were you I would check a guide to be sure). It's recommended that you complete the sidequests in part 1 on your first playthrough because new game+ always starts you at the beginning of part 2 so if you want to complete them then you would have to start a completely new game but if you've already missed them then oh well.

#2 - Drakengard is interesting but it's definitely not for everyone. The story is truly unique but the gameplay is absolutely terrible. If I had to describe the gameplay I would say that it's like a really really bad musou game. With that said, even if you know about ending E I would say that it's at least worth a shot because the story is pretty insane.

It's impossible to lock yourself out of getting all weapons, I believe. There should always be something you can do to get them. If you're really struggling, just consult a guide, but for now I'd wing it.

Yes and no.

Drakengard plays more like a musou game, Drakengard 3 plays more like a linear action game like Bayonetta. They're also both pretty different in story tone from each other and Nier.

Both are worth playing if you're interested but both are very flawed games and it's worth knowing what you're getting into. D1 is mechanically really really clunky and D3 has very notable frame rate issues.

What Drakengard, Drakengard 3 and Nier share is Taro's fucked upness. They all dabble in crazy shit and the games often fuck around in a meta way, be it mechanics or design, like Drakengard 1s super grating music in places (your mileage with these may vary). In Niers case it was the genre shifts.

Personally I loved Drakengard 3. I still need to get round to finishing 1 though.

However if you want more Nier specifically these two probably aren't what you want. Automata will be that though.

This reboot is such a shame. It has charming characters and a story with creative player choice, but the gameplay itself keeps deviating from what made the series great: exploration and experimentation. Chapter 1 so far is the extent of truly traditional, classic adventure gaming. They keep recycling gimmicks and relying on trial-and-error puzzles.

Because the first two are amazing. The narrative and gameplay are insanely clever and have some really unexpected twists.

There are moments that will make you cringe or groan but there are also plenty of moments that will just genuinely blow you away with how clever the game and its twisted world are. Especially with VLR. Most of the game isn't quite as unnerving and frightening as 999 (except when people start to die and shit goes south) but the whole AB Game and the system of doors and the way the facility operates absolutely blew me away.

Zero Time Dilemma is super popular because not only was the director allowed to pretty much have free rein to make it as dark and violent as he wanted for the first time in the franchise but the first two leave a lot of unanswered questions that frankly make the endings kind of unsatisfying compared to the rest of the game and apparently this not only wraps them up but it actually does a good job of it.

Can't fucking wait. I've been waiting for this to come out for like three years. For a while it didn't even look like it was going to get made and now here we are.

I'm desperate for new adventure games that are good, consistent. I just finished the Day of the Tentacle remaster yesterday and it still holds up, even though the remaster makes it look like playable clipart. Dropsy was amazing, but I don't know what else to look forward to now. Especially on PS4. Syberia 3 has my interest, but I haven't played the first two.

I have no problem with the idea behind simplified/modernized adventure games such as Heavy Rain and The Walking Dead or even walking sims like Gone Home and Everybody's Gone to the Rapture--I just can't stand the fact that so many of these story-driven games fail to deliver what's supposed to be the main attractive thing about them: the story. This shit triggers me more than any other disappointing AAA game.
