Endgame on Lunatic is a puzzle, pretty much. You have to use LTC strategies and rescue shenanigans to clear it with no deaths. You can use a variety of tools and strategies, like having captured units before Endgame and just throwing them to die while you end it.
Even in HM it's punishing if you don't try to go relatively fast. In 5-6 turns you're overwhelmed, in Lunatic in 2-3 and your stats will be so debuffed that your capped units will be level 1 Mozumes.

It's more like that they couldn't really solve it in any other way after he killed her. It doesn't make much sense, but in a way it's better and less grim to kill him off than let him live, not fight you and become a soul-less husk. In the end he'd rather die, especially since after you defeat him he remarks that he didn't want to win the fight against you, but it was the only way he could force you to kill him and "free" him from the burdens.
By that point Xander is pretty much broken, just like Ryoma when he kills himself.

Mounted units get Canto, they can use their unused movement after acting. It's super good.

Units start at (random?) levels of biorythm and it oscillates between Best and Worst. Certain units oscillate faster than others but everyone averages equal time. better biorythem boosts your accuracy, crit chance, and proc-rate for skills, bad biorythmn reduces it.
