You essentially are going to need both sooner or later depending on gems. Both chalices can be a nightmare if you're underprepped or not very gud. Defiled will get you closer to radials which you need to complete Ihyll for, but Lower Loran has wanings.

Waning and triangular are your best bet for arcane. It depends on the type of arcane you want. For example, for bolt or fire gems waning is easier to get, but for arcane type triangular is better. And for some weapons like the Moonlight Sword or the Wheel, nourishing gems are the best, which can come from any chalice with Amygdala as a boss.

My understanding is:
The world was fine. The pthumerians went into the labyrinth and the world was still fine. Then byrgenwerth found yharnam and the blood which started to make things less fine. Laurence was a dickhead and spread the blood ministrations causing the beast disease. The world become very not fine. master willem got a third of the way to greatness but never went the full mile. the healing church run by laurence and the choir were assholes. Ludwig became the first hunter and started hunting the beasts. A lot of shit happened with hunting beasts and gerhman was a big influence it, by creating hunter armor and trick weapons. Shit happens, everyone seeks enlightenment, gerhman becomes the moon prescences puppet and he trains hunters to hunt great ones in order to complete the hunt for MP. You have too much insight from lining your brain with eyes so you fight the MP and become a baby great one. I left out some stuff but thats what i learned.

Not finished, but it's still better than mugenmonkey. Comapred to MM, it won't tell you if you don't meet the minimum requirements for a weapon and it only has one weapon slot per hand. I'll add those in eventually, but it's not a high priority. Other than that, it's got a few nice extra features, like a damage simulator and (limited) bloodgem selection. Also it has an Arcane Tool calculator. It's in another tab, down at the bottom. And it calculates AR on a per-attack basis.

File > Make a Copy in order to edit it.

Other than dropdown menus, there are only a few fields you should be entering stuff into. The "Desired Values" for stats (C8:C13, leave blank or enter 0 if you want the minimum value possible), your Insight (E5), and values for bloodgems in the weapon editing fields (N21:N29 and D21:D23 for right and left hand weapons, respectively). Also you can enter w/e the fuck you want into Defense and Damage Reduction fields in the Damage Simulator, it just defaults to your character's defensive stats.

Let me know what you think. Or ask any questions you may have. Try not to type stuff into cells that have formulas. Report bugs. Request features, then get told by me that they're already in development.

Would gem farming with the Eye runs be counterproductive if I'm trying to get regular Tempering gems from the Watchers?

I've heard that apparently increasing your discovery increases the chances of getting rare drops but Tempering gems are the most common so it might actually work against me. I wanna farm chunks at the same time though so I need more discovery for that. Can anyone confirm?

Increasing discovery increases drop rates, not drop quality. So if something is already guaranteed to drop something- in this case, a gem- it won't change anything.

Higher discovery DOES mean you'll get more chunks from your grinding though, so at least there's that.

Maybe.

There's some evidence to suggest that eye runes increase the chance of you getting less common types of gems, or of getting off shapes, but it's inconclusive. Basically, there hasn't been enough testing done on it. A couple people have done 100 runs here or there and demonstrated a couple % points difference in drop rates, but you'd probably need to do thousands of runs to be certain.

OTOH, eye runes definitely do NOT increase the chance of higher ranks of gems dropping. You'll still get the same ratio of 17s, 18s, and 19s from Watchers. So they don't help with that. There's really no point to using them, unless you're trying to get chunks.

He's the famous one that everyone remembers for being great, which is why he's mentioned in so many item descriptions, whereas Gehrman is "obscure in the waking world" and you don't know shit about him until after you've killed him. You can even sense a little bit of resentment in Gehrman's voice when he talks about Ludwig.

Do what I am doing in the WebM. Wait for a gap in him combos then attack. If you are using a fast weapon it will interrupt him. Eventually, back him against a wall.

Also, don't try to attack when he sprints at you. Wait for that cocky slow walk then attack until you corner him.

You should be way more damage than I am doing in the WebM because the damage in that is purposely low due to the challenge.
