That would be stupid. They made a really balanced pair up system in Fates, one which I'd love to see in the next game.
Unlike Awakening's, which gave you absolutely zero reason to not pair units up. In Fates units feel more individual and unique like in the older games instead of being blobs of paired up stats.

Well, I married her on my first playthrough of Birthright and have made her a Basara and a Dark Flier.

Dark Flier is much better since she gets Speed very early both, with the base and with the skill Spd+2. She definetly benefits more than Witch.
If you make her a Basara, spend time online to get her to C rank in Lances and give her the Bolt Naginata, as that is easily the strongest "tome" she can get in Birthright.

I really liked how they made you thought he was going to be your Jagen and then took him away and left you with Felicia/Jakob. I loved how Felicia/Jakob were implemented in Fates, as Jeigans. Their stats start falling off early on, but their skill versatility and staff/debuff utility more than makes up for it. I don't know if they'd exactly count as Jeigans, but they're my favorite Jeigan-like, gameplay wise.

Skill taker is good on the blinder units or units with many proc skills. Charlotte could make good use of it.
I don't know who would like Luck Taker other than Arthur or Anna.
Defense or Res taker goes well with any tank.
