Alright anon, it's time for the next poll. This poll will decide rough starting location, and since there are so many possible choices I've decided to have this poll function just like the starting date poll, with a large, multi-choice-enabled poll to begin with, with a run-off of the top five tomorrow.

I've created an imgur album which gives the relevant mapmodes of all of the various areas included in the poll, with descriptions of their exact geographic breadth (based on de jure kingdoms) and a short-list of some characters there I thought might be interesting. Note that the lists of characters aren't exhaustive nor exclusive; I could still play a count, these are just men and women of particular interest for the region.

Also note, as before, that these characters may be totally irrelevant if the next poll decides that I'll play as a custom character, but the region I begin in will still be highly important, as that will still decide the region within which I'm creating that custom character.

how do I manage my armies so that they don't overlap in the front line and then their divisions mix and the frontline becomes unmanageable?

I tries to assign each army to only one segment of the front line. But assigning only one army of 24 divisions was not always possible, since that could mean that the enemy would have the advantage(as they would send more divisions). So if I wanted more than 24 divisions in that segment I'd need to send to armies there, and then everything would become a clusterfuck.

I tried and can't think of a good reason. The economy system is in-depth but breaks if you play the game for a really long time, the aforementioned war system is trash, they didn't try at all with the in-game provinces, and there's barely any flavor events. However, from what I read on the Steam forums for this game, the multiplayer is still alive for this game, but it looks like all the people playing are turbospergs from AlternateHistory.com

I might just be salty because I can never get into modern day scenarios in these types of games, I'd say try giving it another chance since you already have it because there are some people that have had a good time with this game.

Alright, can we put the memes aside for a moment and all agree that, for what it set out to do, HoI4 is a success? It gave us a WWII grandstrat free from all the archaic bullshit of Darkest Hour, and also much easier to get into then HoI3. Can anyone here honestly say they enjoy wasting an hour to fix their OoB every time they start a game of HoI3? Not to mention that, rather than needing to tediously micromanage industry like in other HoI games, HoI4's industry is both streamlined as well as more intuitive than the previous games. Yeah, it's true that HoI4 leads to more "ahistorical" scenarios, but isn't that the point? Why even bother playing the game if the outcome is predetermined form the start? Moreover, from a pure gameplay perspective, giving the player more options, whether they be historical or ahistorical, is a total success. Sure, Mosley ruling Britain never could have happened in reality, but it's fun to have the ability to easily do so in video game form.

Overall, I feel that HoI3 is getting a lot of undeserved hate simply because it isn't a total copy of HoI3 with slightly better graphics. Of COURSE the game is different - HoI3 already exists, there would be no point to making the same game again! HoI4 may be different, but that's by design, not by some unforeseen flaw, and it should be celebrated for the changes it made, not hated on.

That's probably the biggest problem with their entire design philosophy for HoI4 - HoI3 wasn't perfect, OoB wasn't perfect, tonne of things were bad or broken or just badly designed, okay, great, but the solution to that is not to throw out everything that doesn't work but to improve on it.

OoB in HoI3 wasn't great but doesn't mean it didn't have the potential to be amazing system.

Off the top of my head, the very large provinces would do a few things. The focus would be drastically shifted away from some areas. For instance, in the base game, Hispania is a De Jure Empire consisting of 7 kingdoms, 18 duchies, and 59 counties. But in the Tetrarchy system, it it just a single Diocese (duke level) with seven counties.

This would also make moving armies around more difficult. To use Spain as an example again, any invasion from the north would have to pass through a single specific province. If the terrain here was mountainous, then it could potentially be colossally defensible.
