First for Steak best weapon.

Is that with 45/25 str/skl?
>>

40/40, actually. I get good damage out of just about everything on that build, and I carry like seven different weapons to make use of that.

Once while ringing a resonant bell for Maria co-op I got summoned to a Living Failures fight. Problem was I spawned on the staircase to Maria's room, the door to the lumenflower garden locked from the outside. So I just sat around dodging meteors clipping through the wall waiting for the host to win so I could hopefully wave at him as he opened the door.

He died though. What a failure.

Mother Kos.jpg

So what's the deal with Mother Kos, or Kosm, or whatever you call that fishy Great one?
Why exactly is it a sea-related great one and what does it have to do with the cosmos? Was it already dead when it washed up on the shore or was it just sick and the hunters are the ones who killed/defiled it out of mercy/greed?
Also, why dosen't the Orphan have an umbilical cord? Did the hunters kill Kos and take it? Is that how Rom was "enlightened", by using the cord of the Orphan?
Sorry for all the questions, I've only recently played the DLC and am just now getting around to understanding the secrects behind it.
>>

>>145674005
Like I said, it's for the wheel. That thing hits so hard. Two-shots phantoms, can do the same to a lot of hosts too. And that's with sub-optimal gems!
>>
Rom killed me. Is that bad?
>>
>>145673943
So the dream really is all layered and Kos wasn't so much sea related as she was just on a higher plane of existence?
>>145674008
Ok, so it was the Orphan that the hunters killed that got them cursed? Makes sense.
>>
>>145674354
It means she didn't like you. What did you say to her?
>>
>>145674438
>so it was the Orphan that the hunters killed that got them cursed?
No, the hunters and Byrgenwerth students committed a massacre in the fishing hamlet for experimental reasons, they wanted to see if the exposure to Kos' paraytes granted them eyes.
One of the survivors cursed them and Orphan listened to him.
>>
>>145673835
What's with any of the Great Ones, my dude? Bloodborne does its Lovecraft very well, and in the end, the exact motives or reasons for the actions, appearances or mere presences for any of these creatures is pretty much up for pointless speculation as the idea is you can never really know. They're just there, and we had the sheer manly balls but not the common sense to go in and start messing with them.

The ocean and the cosmos are just like each other, vast expanses of inhospitable cold and darkness, filled with bizarre entities and we live on the protruding masses of clay between these two horrible spaces. There's a reason we used to believe outer space was filled with the substance known as Ether and that traversing it would be like using ships. The sea and sky meet on the horizon and sometimes you can't tell them apart.

Orphan ripped himself free of his dead mother's womb, she washed up already dead in a bizarre mirror to how Great Ones usually work - they usually lose their children, but this one lost its parent. I think it's perfectly possible that Orphan's cord was used by Byrgenwerth since Micolash prays to her long before we even knew about the Hunter's Nightmare, and everything goes back to Byrgenwerth. As for it being used for Rom, maybe, maybe not it's perfectly possible.
>>
>>145674640
>in a bizarre mirror to how Great Ones usually work - they usually lose their children, but this one lost its parent
Kos lost her child by dying before his birth. Nothing bizarre about it.
>>
>>145674907
It's still an inversion to how it has worked with every single other Great One. They lose their children, this one lost its parent. That's not supposed to be how it works.
>>
>>145674554
you're cute
>>
>>145675095
Kos lost her child, that's exactly how it's supposed to work.

Hmm, yea that adds more to the explanation. I was just lost trying to wrap my head around the idea of what and who the hunters exactly wronged.
>>145674640
Yea I see what you mean. It's just always comes back to trying to figure out what happend exactly and why for sensible sake. At least it's open for anyone to be able to make sense of it in their own way.

You don't need more than base end to wheel on an arc build

What are some builds that dominate PvE/Co-op? I'm not into PvP, but I do want to help fight bosses. What levels are best for as much co-op as possible, and what kind of stat spread and weapon set-up would work well?

If I want to attack more than once I definitely do. Have you ever used the wheel? That thing is a stamina hog, made all the more with the trio of stam down gems in it.

Besides, why do you care? It's not like you're piloting it, other peoples' build choices shouldn't mean jack.

FRC depth 5 will have some nasty surprises, and the low HP doesn't help at all. Play it calmly and methodically is my suggestion, taking advantage of either riposte-viscerals or at least stagger management.

Get one with at least +60 to scaling and pair it with two straightforward damage boosting gems. Works best for a weapon that doesn't have great scaling with your primary stat.

For example, a Saw Spear for a 50/25 Str/Skl build.

He's a lot easier to deal with if you stick close and dodge towards his scythe arm whenever he attacks and focus his left leg. Tricked form on beast cutter is too slow and can't really focus body part to get him staggered for visceral.

If you don't want to use a human summon, you can summon Valtr if you have Impurity equipped. He can heal 5 times during the fight and can tank a ton of damage, which makes it much easier.

Yeah second phase can destroy you if you're not careful.

It's cool. I was worried he was going to jump on you again, so I was hoping you'd hang back.

Bloodborne

Halo 3

New Vegas

I've played each to death in one way or another; Bloodborne none stop for over a year now, literally captivated by the moon. Halo 3 multiplayer throughout High school with mates, and vanilla and modded New Vegas when I moved out of home and bought my first laptop with my first paycheck from my first job.

Honorable mention to FF8 and Ninja Gaiden

In chalice dungeons every enemy with the red glow is being summoned by a bell maiden, except for the ones that appear after you step on a trap.
If you kill a bell maiden but not all the summons disappear, it means that they were summoned by a bell maiden in another room.

good grinding spots for endgame?
>>
>>145720268
In Ailing Loran layer 2 there's a room with around 10 guys that drop 4k blood echoes each. Pop on any rune you have that increases blood echoes and you should come out of every run through there with around 70k or more.
>>
>>145720268
Once you hit Depth 5 chalices you'll have more echoes than you'll ever need without having to grind at all.

Bloodtinge builds are really cheese and require very specific weapons + gems that you won't get access to for a while. If you're a newb then just go for skill + vit + endurance. Use the cane as it's the best skill weapon for a long time. You'll want 16 str eventually for Ludwig's Holy Blade, which is the next skill weapon that you'll reasonably get to besides the saw spear.
>>

I also never realized how fucking large the piercing rifle is. I love it.

Is there a point to the other left hand firearms tho? The piercing rifle has the piercing gimmick, the evelyn and repeating pistol are the go to weapon for actual bloodtinge build, and I guess blunderbuss is for staggering. Is there a niche function hunter pistol and ludwig's rifle serve or are there just weaker alternatives to parry with?
>>
>>145731197
It's awesome, I love the moveset so much that I made a build specifically for it.
>>
>>145731197
If you're going to have at least 50 ARC in your build, it's great. It requires very specific gems to be great though. It needs flat arcane primary and +9.8% arcane secondary. If you're willing to farm those, the Parasite is a top-tier ARC weapon.
>>
>>145731271
The piercing rifle is actually stronger than Evelyn, but it's less used because of its recoil.
Ludwig's rifle is a stronger blunderbuss with longer range, wider bullet spread and more recoil, hunter pistol is just the basic gun.
>>
>>145731271
Ludwig's is shit. The Hunter Pistol is better for parries than the Blunderbuss because it's faster.

Piercing Rifle will do SLIGHTLY more damage than Evelyn, but it's negligible.

The real consideration between the two is the following:

Piercing Rifle's recoil is slightly slower, HOWEVER, it is by far the sexiest left hand weapon in the game, which imo more than makes up for it.

>Is the Hunter the villain in this fight

You're literally killing an aborted baby orphan fetus that just crawled out of it's mother's carcass. You're literally killing a newborn baby that doesn't know any better than to attack the first thing he sees. He doesn't even get a chance at life because a curse some autistic fishermen prayed for made him age like milk the second he we "born" (you can hear his inital cry go from baby-sounding to old man whimpering in a second, also the fish guy said he was a "wizened child"), and the curse wasn't even his fault. Yet he has to die for it to end.

You being the villain of the fight doesn't even begin to describe how much of a scum you are.
>>
>>145794680
The Frontier is just part of the Mensis zone. You can even see the building in the distance.
>>
>>145793160
Yes. Keep doing it and you'll figure out his attack patterns, and you'll be able to dodge him reliably eventually.
>>
>>145793160
The arena is bigger than you think. Fight him in the water, that gives you more space to dodge the lightning.
Don't chase him in his second phase. Let him attack into you, dodge, and he'll be right next to you so you can hit it.
>>
>>145794832

every time some bitch gets preggers by a Great One, you get a cord.

Not quite. They essentially ripped all the mutated fishfuckers apart to investigate and experiment on them. This, quite naturally, made them a little bit annoyed so they prayed for Kos for revenge. I just realized that. I love that shit in Souls games. The hardest bosses are always gimped lore-wise yet they can kick your ass.

Artorias was corrupted, shieldless, with a broken arm using his sword on a side he's not used to, yet he is still a badass.

Kalameet is a fucking psyhic dragon that can easily maul you even though he had a giant arrow through his wings.

And orphan is the hardest boss in the series and he's just a newborn baby. Makes me wonder how powerful he could have been if he the a chance of a porper birth.

well, it's highly likely that the Orphan is dead IRL, because of the whole "making the Nightmare" deal, and because the fishman at the beginning of the level specifically begs to grant the Orphan mercy. Couple that with how fucking OLD it is,and my headcanon was that the Orphan was killed IRL by Byrgenwerth in their search for eyes/cords, and it's been chilling in the Nightmare ever since, too afraid to leave it's mom's body (despite clearly outstaying it's welcome).

I like to think that Rom was the one who did this, because that would explain why Kos granted her eyes -- turning her into a literally retarded Great One was an ironic punishment

Is irrelevant. Rom can be found in the Chalice Dungeons. The only other main-game bosses found in the Chalice Dungeons are Amygdala and Ebrietas, both unique beings. Ebrietas was canonically found in Isz, and Amygdala was likely found by prospectors in there as well given the fact it has its own cult. Then there's the fact Yharnam is pregnant when we fight her. This all leads to the conclusion that the Chalice Dungeons depict the past, likely as some form of Nightmare Realm.

And since Rom is in there, it would mean she was simply found by Byrgenwerth, not created by them.

Willem seemed to know what was up. The description of the umbilical cords say they grant eyes on the inside. Willem's entire goal was to gain eyes on the inside. In the Lecture Building there are two notes, one saying, "Hunt the Great Ones, hunt the Great Ones," and the other saying, "Three Third Cords."

One of the major themes of the game is history repeating itself. It's entirely possible that Ebrietas, Amygdala, Kos, the Wet Nurse, and even Moon Presence, or all of the above, were once not Great Ones.

>did you REALLY think that you could kill creatures whose celestial existence transcends realities?
Yes. That's kind of the entire point. Or do you think that after you murder Moon Presence and become a Great One he just says, "Nah bro it's cool," and walks away? Kos' corpse washes up on the Fishing Hamlet. Even in the Nightmare created by her Orphan, she is still just a corpse. And then there's Mergo's Wet Nurse, bonafide Great One, only sticks around for as long as it takes us to kill her.

>implying that Nightmare Realms are time travel
I never implied that at all. I said they depict the past, as proven by Yharnam being clearly pregnant and it being the entire point of the Research Hall and Fishing Hamlet.

>Bloodborne's official guide states that Rom was a high-ranking scholar of Byrgenwerth
Where? I just had a quick look and found no mention of that at all. They even called Rom a he in it.

Orphan... The one who materialized in the air then you fought while bellringers shot things at you? I've never played the DLC so not sure if there's any real information on the lore there.

Do we only fight the wet nurse and never encounter Merho itself?

Kos is squid Great One, washed ashore dead. Super butthurt at Byrgenwerth, their descendants, and their followers.

Mergo is the child of Queen Yharnam and Oedon, I think?
