What reason do I have to be optimist? Games are more and more designed with multiplayer in mind, taking out the interest of video games.
Video games are made so that you can play alone. Them being focused on multi (sometimes not even having a solo mode or restricting it) completely defeats the purpose. Add to that the fact that most of the franchise I grew up with turned into shit (like Sonic), that most games are casualized baby shit for kids who just want to play with other kids (and trashtalk the fuck out of everyone or constantly stream their stupidity for the whole world to see), and you'll see why games are turning bad.

Add to that the fact that out of four goddesses, only two are truly likeable and that one of the two died because Sega completely failed the transition from 2D to 3D and stopped making consoles.

And there's also the fact I can't enjoy video games, but that's personal.

Conquest has great characters to begin with. Except for Noire and the Makers.

I mean, seriously, the CPUs are great (Ram finally breaking down and showing that despite her brattiness, she's still a crybaby who needs her sister, Vert thinking of Chika in her last moments despite ignoring her most of the time), except Noire of course, but the Makers, who by now make up 90% of the playable party.
They never react to anything happening. I remember Compa or IF saying a few things, but Cave, Falcom, MAGES raise any objection.

They lost, so they talked nepgear into killing them, but they couldn't so they had a little struggle for the sword again and Noire just fucking took the shot. You really had to play it, You didn't just potions/Nep bull or anything
You had find all the bottles required to make it (I believe it was 3 different bottles) then hope a character randomly makes it mid-battle to use it.
I don't think you could even leave a dungeon without an item which lead to really annoying situations
There was also like, 3 dungeons in the entire game and were just reused all the time.

It's worth playing if you like the series just to see where it all started but I couldn't call it a good game
I don't visit /nepgen/ often but last I was here some did claim to like it while most said it was bad but you could enjoy it.

I can't fully remember since it's been years but IIRC it was something like X% if HP<Y%
So if you had less than 500~hp you have a 20% chance of making a potion which would auto activate.
You couldn't save them or anything and different enemies would drop different bottles.

If you died at any time as well you would lose shares, They didn't go to anyone though so they were just gone.
If you want to 100% it you cannot die even once.

The healing skills went something like "if your health drops below 50%, heal for 50%". There was a %chance thing too, but t's 100% after like lvl 15 so that doesn't matter. The problem is if say the boss hits for 49-55% of your health you can end up at 51, not heal, and then die next turn. Also priorities were wrong, so if two heals are supposed to trigger at the same time, only the weaker does.

The healing materials were a great idea imo, instead of consumables you had 4 components that dropped in large amounts and combined into items on use. Sort of like consumables in Bayonetta.

Then there was the low fps and floaty feel, everything took just a little longer than it should, made battles super annoying. Add to that the fact that you can't avoid random battles and that they are all just "use neptune break enough times", as there was no limit on EXE use...

To be honest I really liked the concept of HDN's battle system, with some minor improvements (the bloody healing and transformations) I think it's the best in the series. Take how MK2 utilized items/transformations and HDN's everything else and it may have been wonderful.

I remember picking HDN up from the value bin at EB and not expecting anything; it was a pain in the ass but setting up combos+naming and whatnot was such a good feeling. I thought MK2 was going to be a fixed version of that system but sadly it wasn't. However, MK2 is still my second favourite.

(I also think IF/Compa/Neptune had the best dynamic in HDN aswell)
