That one actually has a great story, but it only makes sense if you played the first two, and those are much more serious. Gameplay is not great though. Interesting, but the random battles get boring halfway through and can't be avoided.

If you like it you can try RB3/V, RB2 is not bad but is quite heavy to play out.
U is not bad but not that great though, you may enjoy it.
GN is.. well... i don't want to say that's bad, you may enjoy it but in my opinion is probably the weakest one.
Or you can just skip until V-II, still you should play RB2 and V/RB3 just for the story at some point.
About the other spinoffs, ignore them, you are not losing anything at all.
