The far side routes (Akiha, Hisui, Kohaku) are the best ones. As an Arcfag I felt like her route was probably one of my least favorites when all was said and done.
The manga is basically just a better version of Arc's route and it takes a quarter of the time to read it all. It adds in elements from other routes, and you see some more exposition that you wouldn't otherwise in the original Arc route. Illustration was nice. Arc was pretty thicc in the manga iirc.

If you skip Ciel's route you'll miss out on a lot of fairly important character development and exposition, not only for Ciel, but also for Roa and Shiki,not only Tohno but Nanaya too. I'd even argue that Arc gets more interesting character development on Ciel's route than her own. That being said none of those characters (besides Shiki) really matter on the Far Side, so it's not like you won't understand what's going on if you skip it, but I've always considered Ciel's route to just straight up be a better version of Arc's route once you get to the point they stop overlapping, even if you like Arc more than Ciel.

At worst they just do "almost-porn" these days. It's not likely that any of the adult themes (like Kohaku's back story, or some of the sexual imagery) will be changed since something like CCC still had that in spades (and a lot of lewd "almost-porn" CG), but it's pretty doubtful we'll get any actual H scenes. Or voice acting, for that matter (Takeuchi has gone about this at length as to why they don't like voiced VNs. Which is why Mahoyo didn't have any, in spite of the huge backlash towards it not being voiced).
Honestly, I don't know if I'd want to see Takeuchi H scenes again, anyway. They've always been shit aside from a few. You're likely to find hotter doujins/fan art out there.

Mahoyo had a pretty mixed reception due to that as well. H scenes are not hot by themselves though. A significant part of what makes things such as moege successful in regards to the H scenes--even in spite of the boring as hell vanilla positions--is the building of context. The context behind the character that you're fucking, the build up over hours and progression into the relationship that culminates in that scene. Nukige do this too, but in my opinion the effect is usually less than ideal, but it depends on the title. This is why even though I usually don't care much for the CGs in pure love titles, I still return to them occasionally because the context that builds up around the character over hours of development makes the H scenes better for me in the end.

Holy shit Ikikoi shocked me. I'm 15 minutes in and was not prepared at ALL. I figured with the "ikikoi is kamige" and "ikikoi is kusoge" memes that it would obviously be somewhere in between but I did not expect to get so immediately drawn in.
Majikoi was comfy. It set an atmosphere and had attention to detail that made me attached to the characters and setting.
Princess Evangile was engaging. Despite the numerous shenanigans it had a way of telling the story that made it a good, not great, read.
My first impression of Ikikoi is that it's just fucking FUN. Makes no sense and will probably jump around too much to make sense plotwise, but I can't get rid of this wide grin on my face, nor do I want to.
Please tell me that that is the kind of ride I'm in for, because I don't want it to stop. The setting is not as good as Majikoi and the storytelling is not as good as PE, but regardless of that I am thoroughly enjoying myself because of how well it pulls off making utter nonsense seem like a good time.

The design choice of the combat is escpially bad
*damage output is better the closer you are. The same resource that you use to move also is the attack resource, meaning if you advance forward you will do weak damage and the enemy will get to counter attack with full strength. This means the best tactic is to actually never move and work with low damage attacks. This is compounded by the fact that enemies themself move at a very slow rate meaning both sides stick to weak attacks the entire battle
*Enemies really, really like attacking the Sunrider, which is an instant game over if it dies. Basically since the enemy focuses 90% of their fire power on it the key to winning every fight is to turtle the Sunrider. There isn't much insensitive to take risks with the Sunrider. Which again encourages passive play.
*The fact that the enemy always outnumbers you and there is no real terrain to block off enemy attacks or create bottle necks also encourages which leads to really shitty mission variety and reinforces the need to play passively.
*As if you needed just one more reason to play passively the enemy will spend it's first round or two unloading every missile it has at you, which deal high damage and practically always hit, meaning before you even begin to start positioning units you're already in the red and need to stay out of enemy range healing up.
